User:Lady Elyssa/PvE Character Gear for Condition damage
Gearing up at level 80[edit]
This short-ish guide is focused exclusively on gearing a character for PvE with Exotic or Ascended gear using Condition damage. Each piece of equipment comes with its own set of Attributes that add to your characters own base Attributes. The stat prefixes we are interested in are:
- Condition Damage (increases condition damage)
- Condition Duration / Expertise (increases condition duration)
The Viper's stat will give us around 1172 Condition Damage and 42% Condition Duration on its own, combined with an appropriate Rune, this can provide up to 50% to a specific Condition Duration. Traits and Consumables provide additional sources of Expertise to reach the cap.
Rarity[edit]
- The rarity of gear is indicated by the colour of the text, e.g. Exotic is orange, Ascended is pink, and Legendary is purple.
- Ascended and Legendary gear comes with Infusion slots which is important to survive the higher levels of Fractals of the Mists, those interested in having a Cosmetic aura as part of Fashion Wars as well as those looking to maximise their gears potential.

Once the maximum crafting level has been complete speak to the Master craftsman where you can buy the recipes.
To craft an Ascended weapon you will first need to buy an Ascended Inscription that will let you choose from the various stat combinations.
- For Viper's stats you will need to select Recipe: Yassith's Viper's Inscription.
- For Ritualist's stats you will need to select Recipe: Togo's Inscription.
You will then need to buy the appropriate weapon recipe(s) for 5 + 3 .
Players can also craft Grandmaster Marks to exchange for Ascended weapons at certain vendors. The recipes for these marks are sold by BLING-9009, Ascended Weapon League Vendor and Skirmish Supervisor.

Ascended Armor[edit]
- For Open World PvE this really isn't necessary but are useful for those wanting to use Infusions to benefit from the Attribute Bonuses or those Fashion Warriors looking to strut their Cosmetic Aura.
- For high tier Fractals Ascended armor is a must.
- For Raids, Exotic armor is certainly sufficient but for those keen to maximise their gains, Ascended armor is a worthwhile investment.
Crafting[edit]
To craft Ascended armor you will first need to buy an Ascended Insignia, for Viper Stats this will require the Recipe: Yassith's Viper's Insignia.
You will then need to buy the appropriate armor recipe(s) for 5 + 3 .

Infusions can be added to Weapons, Armor and Trinkets (Rings and Accessories only, not Amulets, see Enrichments) and aside from any Cosmetic Aura can be used to maximise a characters attributes. It is worth noting that Ascended Rings can be Attuned by upgrading them in the Mystic Forge to gain one extra infusion slot.
WARNING!: Upgrading rings in the Mystic Forge will destroy any existing infusions unless removed prior to attunement by using an Infusion Extraction Device.

Consumables[edit]
While Consumables aren't strictly needed for Open World they can offer some additional utility benefits likes additional experience to help with levelling Masteries or Karma for Wintersday. For Fractals and Raids consumables are basically a requirement.

Inventory & Bags[edit]
All characters start with a 20 slot Starter Backpack equipped in the first bag slot with additional bags found as loot, purchased from vendors, crafted or given as rewards for completing achievements, the personal story and Living World events.
Bags come in different sizes starting at 4 slots and go all the way up to 32 slots. Some bags come with special features that can help with inventory organization.
Note: The 20 Slot Starter Backpack can be replaced by larger bags.
Acquisition[edit]
To craft bags with more than 20 slots I would recommend referring to the Crafting section of the Bag page.
[edit]
Shared Inventory Slots can be accessed by all characters on the account. It is recommended to have at least four of these initially for:
- Can make use of a Mystic Salvage Kit until ready or able to pick up a Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic
- Unlimited Gathering Tools available from the Gem Store
While there are any number of useful items that can be placed within a Shared Inventory Slot some common examples include:
- Lounge Pass (can use Obsidian Sanctum for quick and easy access to your Bank or the Trading Post)
- Mystic Forge Conduit
- Prototype Position Rewinder
- Bank Access Express or Permanent Bank Access Express
- Permanent Portable Provisioner (can use WvW badges of Honor) for some budget foods.
