“Blaze a path northward with the Steel Warband.
— In-game description
Forging Steel is the sixth Icebrood Saga strike mission, taking place in the Shiverpeak Mountains. Your character will be transformed into a Blood Legion charr, fresh recruits to the Steel Warband. Players will need to escort the tank through the Shiverpeak Mountains. This strike mission requires the Forging Steel story step to be started or completed.
Getting there[edit]
Players must own the Path of Fire expansion to join.
Players can select to join either a Public or Squad (private) version of the instance. The Public version prevents new players from joining once the tank escort begins. The Squad version does not have the same restrictions but requires a raid-mode (10 player) squad to join.
- Public and squad versions
- For characters that completed the "Consult with Aurene" objective of the Forging Steel story step:
- Interact with the Scrying Pool at the Scrying Pool — in the Eye of the North (north-west of Eye of the North Waypoint — ).
- This only needs to be completed once to permanently unlock this access method for this character.
- Squad version only
- Enter or be within Eye of the North when the strike mission instance is opened.

Walkthrough[edit]
Similar to the Cold War strike mission, players must complete a series of events which then culminates in a final boss encounter. Both strike missions are longer compared to the other The Icebrood Saga (IBS) ones. If a Squad instance was created, a Challenge Mote will be available at the start of the mission (see Challenge Mode section).
This encounter dynamically scales to the number of players within the instance and can thus be completed solo. Clearing enemies ahead of the NPC escort and consistent application of Swiftness and Superspeed to them will cut down a significant amount of time. Additional waypoints on the map will be unlocked as the group progresses.
Mission Rank[edit]
The group receives a mission rank at the end of the mission that affects the Legion Commendation Chest drops. Rank depends on the number of activated challenges and how well the group performed, such as successfully completing activities for allies (Warband Support), ensuring the tank does not reach low health (Bonus: Protect the Tank), and completing the mission within 28 minutes ( Bonus: Fast Completion). However, at least two challenges must be active to be eligible for Imperator rank. The ranks are listed below from lowest to highest:
- Soldier
- Legionnaire [verification requested]
- Centurion
- Tribune
- Imperator (see challenge mode section)
Trip Preparations[edit]
Upon entering the instance, players will have 10 minutes to assist the Steel Warband with preparations before heading out. Each member showcases their area of expertise upon completing their tasks. Failing any of these events has no effect, however completing all of them will immediately start the next phase.
- Cinder Steeltemper (Combat)
Players must clear out the forest of Sons of Svanir within 4 minutes to impress Cinder. They will periodically respawn near the southeastern camp outskirts, with the Champion Icebrood Seers offering the most impact upon defeat. Players must then return to and assist Cinder against an upcoming camp assault.
- Ranoah Grindsteel (Tank)
Players are tasked to enter the TT6-B Devourer and test out its artillery against Practice Dummies. Tank munitions can be replenished by interacting with Blood Legion Ammo Crates. A maximum of 60 Munitions for the first skill and 5 Munitions for the second skill can be held at a time. The third skill can be used to near instantly break all defiance bars. Once the harpoon has grappled onto a target, the skill can be held down to inflict massive damage to the bar.
# | Skill | Description | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Rifle Shot | ¼ | Mounted rifle shot. | |
2 | Grenade Shot | ½ | Shoot a grenade that fragments upon impact. | |
3 | Harpoon | ¼ | 20 | Shot a harpoon that connects to the target. |
3 | Grapple Target | ¼ | Pull the harpooned target toward the tank. | |
4 | Smoke Grenade | 60 | Create a smoke that causes missiles to miss and blinds foes. |
- Nicabar Steelweaver (Tonics)
Players must scavenge the northern camp outskirts for ingredients, which can either be brought or thrown to Nicabar. Snowdrift can mainly be gathered from Snow Piles on the ground level, whereas Alpine Blossoms can only be found by scaling the rock formation. Cave Mushrooms and Grubs are found in the northern cavern. Disgruntled Mushrooms may appear but will be pacified upon defeat. Once all ingredients are collected, players must then test the brewed Health Tonics by throwing them at allies. Each ally hit by the tonic's AoE are not only healed, but also applied with Quickness, Regeneration, Vigor and the Revitalized effect, which stacks up to 10 minutes.
- Vishen Steelshot (Sniper)
Players must first scale the nearby ruins to reach Vishen's perch then borrow her sniper rifle to clear out the Icebrood below. Standing near her will provide infinite ammo for the first skill and unlock the second skill for a powerful combo attack.
# | Skill | Description | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Longshot | 1 | ¼Fire a powerful long-rage rifle shot at the target. Unlimited ammo when near Vishen Steelshot at her sniper perches. | |
2 | Team Fire | 2 | ¼7 | Take aim and fire a heavy armor-piercing round in tandem with Vishen, inflicting burning on the target. If the target is shielded, the round breaks defensive shields and deals severe damage. Only usable when near Vishen Steelshot. |
Escort the Tank[edit]
The tank will encounter hostile forces during its journey, with each area containing either Icebrood or the Stone Summit. Players should first prioritize destroying the Svanir Mists Portals and Flame Portals to prevent enemy reinforcements. As before, players can enter the tank and exhaust its artillery on enemies. Blood Legion Ammo Crates and Dwarven Ammo Crates found throughout the map as well as Dark Iron Munitions from defeated Stone Summit enemies replenish tank munitions, in order of highest to lowest munition refill. The harpoon skill should be used to quickly break any defiance bars.
The tank is Damaged upon reaching 50% health and must be repaired for it to be mobile again. Upon reaching 10% health, it becomes Incapacitated and ejects all players and remains inaccessible until repaired. Players can either use AoE healing skills or throw Scrap Metal onto the tank to repair it. At full health, thrown scrap metal will instead apply swiftness and superspeed instead of healing.
Additionally throughout the escort, players can join the Steel Warband members in three different activities:
- Snipe enemies with Vishen Steelshot
- Three times during the mission, Vishen will call out and teleport to one of her sniper positions (marked on the map). A Bouncing Mushroom shortcut is usually nearby to assist with the jumping puzzle up to the sniper perch. Some Stone Summit enemies will have the Dwarven Shield effect and become invulnerable to damage. This shield can either be broken with the second sniper skill or Stone Cannons from defeated Stone Summit Cannoneers.
- Gather ingredients for Nicabar Steelweaver
- Twice during the mission, Nicabar will request for tonic ingredients. He will then brew another set of tonics for allied use if everything has been collected.
- Compete with Cinder Steeltemper
- Twice during the mission, Cinder will compete with players on who can defeat most creatures within 2 minutes. The first and second contests will be for Tar Elementals and Darkrime Skelk, respectively. The event ends either due to time, when the tank moves too far away, or when either competitor reaches 15 kills.
The warband will eventually be blocked by a large door. Players must use the tank artillery to destroy the 2 Warding Seals on the gate then break through the gate's weak spot, which is afflicted with the Harpoon Vulnerability effect. The weak spot can be destroyed by breaking its defiance bar with the harpoon skill. Destroying the gate will unlock the second waypoint.
Another obstacle blocks the warband's path upon leaving the dwarven ruins. Players must find and activate 3 Blast Wall Runes by standing on them. Two can be found near the raised bridge and one near the hot pools. The bridge to the final encounter will be lowered once all runes are activated. The third and final waypoint will also be unlocked here.
The Ancient Forgeman[edit]
- Health: 3,346,560
The arena contains a total of 4 runes, with two on each side. Two random runes will light up throughout the encounter and can be triggered by standing on top of them. Activating all lit runes will raise up walls around the center. A large construct eventually emerges from the center and is highly resistant to normal damage due to the Hardened Shell effect. However, this effect is temporarily removed when its defiance bar is broken during specific parts of the fight. To maximize damage, players should continuously damage the boss with ranged attacks then rapidly break the construct's defiance bar once it appears.
Skill | Notes |
---|---|
Summon Flame Portal | Creates a portal summoning Stone Summit reinforcements. |
Molten Volley | Streaks the arena with fireballs susceptible to projectile destruction and reflects. If the two lit Blast Wall Runes are activated, several walls will rise from the ground and protect all allies standing behind them. |
Flame Bomb | All players are targeted with an orange circle that explodes after a delay, dealing damage and leaving behind a puddle that pulses Burning. Players should spread out and avoid overlapping explosions, which can also damage the tank. |
This phase follows a fixed, repeating pattern: [Summon Flame Portal with 2x Lit Blast Wall Runes → Molten Volley] x 3 → Flame Bomb → Defiance bar unlock
After every third Molten Volley attack, the Forgeman becomes afflicted with the Vents Pressure effect for 15 seconds. Afterwards, its defiance bar unlocks and players should enter the tank and hold down skill 3 to break this bar. Breaking the bar will inflict the Exposed Weakness effect to the construct, temporarily removing its damage reduction from the Hardened Shell effect. Players should take advantage of this window to inflict heavy damage before repeating the process once the boss recovers.
The Forgeman is defeated upon reaching 0% health. Players can then continue on across the bridge to reap their rewards and touch base with their allies.
Challenge Mode[edit]
Players can interact with the Challenge Mote in the camp until the warband moves out. Selected challenges will be marked by a check mark.
Strategies and Tips[edit]
- Imperator Rank (at least two challenges active)
Activating the Tank Escort, Final Boss, and Horde of Foes challenges is recommended. Additional tips are listed below:
- Bonus: Fast Completion - Maximize swiftness and superspeed uptime. Players should split up and ensure any straggler enemies are finished to avoid stalling the tank.
- Bonus: Protect the Tank - Ensure enemies are quickly defeated before they can damage the tank. One or two dedicated healers can not only heal, but also apply boons such as Protection to the tank.
- Sniper Events (Vishen) - Focus on non-shielded foes first because the events end when the shielded foes are defeated. This will then allow the group to fully complete the event for maximum rewards without it ending prematurely.
- Combat Events (Cinder) - Delay killing the last Icebrood/Stone Summit foes until this event succeeds from defeating 15 creatures.
- Gathering Events (Nicabar) - Delay opening the dwarven gate until the gathering event succeeds.
- Tank Escort challenge
- Letting the devourer tank become badly damaged fails the mission.
- The strike mission fails if the tank reaches 10% health, kicking all players out of the instance.
- The tank is an NPC, so dedicated healers are recommended to keep its health topped off.
- Protection and Barrier can be applied to minimize damage received.
- If targeted by attacks such as the Forgeman's Flame Bomb attack, players should position themselves away from the tank.
- Powerful Foes challenge
- Your enemies are greatly empowered.
- Grants the Challenging effect to most enemies.
- The Champion Icebrood Kodan gains the Flash Freeze effect.
- The Champion Stone Summit Drake Rider gains the Strafer effect.
- Final Boss challenge
- Your final adversary is greatly toughened.
- Grants the Challenging effect to the Ancient Forgeman.
- The boss now has more health and deals more damage.
- Activating the lit runes becomes more important. Otherwise, projectile destruction and reflect skills must be used to avoid taking heavy damage from the Forgeman's Molten Volley attack.
- Player should avoid dropping the burning pools from the Flame Bomb attack along the tank path.
- Horde of Foes challenge
- Your enemies are far more numerous.
- Enemies are more abundant and spawn in larger groups.
- Additional portals will spawn behind the tank at certain parts of the journey.

Dialogue[edit]
Upon entering the instance:
- Cinder Steeltemper: Aren't you the sorriest bunch of recruits I've ever laid eyes on!
- Cinder Steeltemper: Report to Centurion Steelcatcher for work details!
Talking with Ryland:
- Ryland Steelcatcher: You're in the Steel Warband now. I expect nothing short of absolute perfection.
- At ease. We have a lot to do before we move out, and not a lot of time. I don't like the look of this weather. The cold already took the choppers out of comission.
- Choppers?
- We were using them to transport supplies and do recon runs. Snowstorm already crashed a few. I ordered the rest grounded until further notice. I don't want any more casualties on my watch.
- What about the supplies?
- Pilots dropped their cargo in a panic. Keep your eyes open if you see any crates along our route. With any luck, the ammo is still viable. Same for the spare parts. We'll need both for the journey.
- Understood. Anything else?
- Report to my officers. They're finishing preparations and could use an extra set of paws.
- Who are your officers?
- Did your gun go off while you were cleaning it? (sigh) Who do you want to know about: Cinder, Nicabar, Vishen, or Ranoah?
- Never mind. I'm ready to assist an officer.
- Cinder.
- Cinder Steeltemper is my second-in-command. Deadly with her swords, and a little too trigger happy with her flamethrower. She loves a good barbecue if you know what I mean.
- I'd like to know about another officer.
- I'll help Cinder defend the perimeter.
- Good. When you're done, report back to me or go find another officer to assist. We don't have much time.
- (salute)
- Thanks for the intel.
- Nicabar.
- Nicabar Steelweaver is the best combat medic around. He makes some nervous with his magic—and his renegade past—but you can't deny the effectiveness of the tonics he brews.
- I'd like to know about another officer.
- I want to help Nicabar Steelweaver with his tonics. (same as "Good. When you're done,...")
- Thanks for the intel.
- Vishen.
- Vishen Steelshot is the sniper the Ash Legion wishes they had. Never misses a head shot. This warband is her family, and she would do anything to protect it.
- I'd like to know about another officer.
- I want to shoot icebrood. I'll find Vishen Steelshot (same as "Good. When you're done,...")
- Thanks for the intel.
- Ranoah.
- Ranoah Grindsteel is our engineer. Careful around the tank over there; it's her baby. And don't ask her about it unless you want to sit through an hour-long lecture on every last feature of the thing.
- I'd like to know about another officer.
- I like the look of that tank. I'll help Ranoah Grindsteel (same as "Good. When you're done,...")
- Thanks for the intel.
- I'll help Cinder Steeltemper defend the perimeter. (same as "Good. When you're done,...")
- I'll help Nicabar Steelweaver restock his health tonics. (same as "Good. When you're done,...")
- I like the look of that tank. I'll help Ranoah Grindsteel. (same as "Good. When you're done,...")
- I want to shoot icebrood. I'll find Vishen Steelshot. (same as "Good. When you're done,...")
- I'd like to ask another question.
- I need more time to choose.
- Yes, sir.
- We'll manage without them.
- Why are we here?
- Imperator Ruinbringer has trusted our warband with establishing a route through this mountain pass for additional forces. We've got a tank, so there will be no mistakes.
- Understood. What are my orders? (same as "Report to my officers....")
- I won't let you down.
- What are my orders, sir? (same as "Report to my officers....")
- Then I won't waste any more of your time.
At 05:00 remaining until the warband moves out:
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Storm's getting worse. Recruits, pick up the pace!
Approaching Cinder Steeltemper:
- One of:
- Cinder Steeltemper: Your training doesn't end at the fahrar, recruit.
- Cinder Steeltemper: We've got to keep the perimeter clear.
Talking with Cinder Steeltemper:
- Clear out the hostiles in the woods while I carve up the rest of 'em at camp. Hurry up!
- Step aside while I show you how it's done.
- Big words, runt. I'll believe it when I see it. Get moving! I'm timing you...
- Watch and learn.
- On second thought...
- What are we up against?
- Svanir meatheads trying to take potshots at us. We upset their leader's "feelings" by "encroaching on their domain." Let's see him use those fancy words with an axe in his skull...
- What do you want me to do? (same as "Clear out the hostiles...")
- I gotta go.
- You look like you've got it covered.
Fending off icebrood with Cinder Steeltemper:
- Cinder Steeltemper: Recruits, back to base! Enemies at the gate!
- Cinder Steeltemper: Not too shabby, but I prefer a more direct approach!
- Cinder Steeltemper: I prefer the direct approach.
Talking with Cinder Steeltemper after completion:
- Need something?
- Nope.
Approaching Ranoah Grindsteel:
- One of:
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Hop in the tank. Don't scratch the paint.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Hey, recruit. Get over here; don't ask questions.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Hey, have I seen you around in the fah-RAWR? Sorry.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: You look bored. Want to blow stuff up?
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Stock up on ammo and hop on the rifles! You'll be protecting my baby out there.
Talking with Ranoah Grindsteel:
- If you want to ride along, you need to know how to man the artillery. Let's see what you're capable of!
- What do I do?
- Grab some ammo from that box and jump in the tank. Fire on the target dummies over there, and learn how to use the harpoon. Get warmed up for different combat scenarios.
- Quite an impressive machine you have there.
- She's a babe. One of the perks of being in the Steel Warband: Bangar gets us the best toys. This beauty has more firepower than the heaps that Iron uses. No contest. This one'd blow theirs to scrap.
- Sounds like it packs a punch. Thanks for the informa—
- Dual exhausts, twin-turbo engine with high coal efficiency. Listen to her purr. Internally mounted rifles for maximum defense. High-velocity black powder harpoon cannons. I could go on...
- I'm sure you will.
- Front-mounted bayonets. All-terrain treads. Citadel-forged steel armor plating. Best of the best! Just look at those sleek curves and all the wonderful stabby bits...
- I think I hear Ryland calling me...
- See you around.
- It'll be a target practice massacre.
- Quite an impressive machine you have there. (same as "She's a babe....")
- Maybe some other time.
Tank target practice with Ranoah Grindsteel:
- Ranoah Grindsteel: She's got state-of-the-art antipersonnel grenade launchers! Ten asura, one 'nade, total mayhem.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Use the harpoon to break armor. Or pull things over. You know what a harpoon does.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Oh no! We're being ambushed! Fire at will!
Talking with Ranoah Grindsteel after completion:
- Nice shooting. We're definitely going to blow up some skritt.
- Thanks.
Approaching Nicabar Steelweaver:
- One of:
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Happiness is a smooth tonic.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Mix these grubs and mushrooms up with some herbs, you got a mean tonic.
Talking with Nicabar Steelweaver:
- Have you tried the cave mushrooms here? Earthy taste and chewy mouthfeel, but the effects are wondrous. I've eaten twelve and feel great! Mix 'em with some herbs, you got a mean tonic.
- You make tonics?
- Sure do. I could use some help stocking up on ingredients before heading out. The tonics will come in handy on our mission. Slug one down, and you'll feel like you can take on anything!
- What ingredients do you need?
- I need four things: alpine blossoms, mushrooms, a few handfuls of snow, and some grubs. When you find ingredients, toss 'em over to me.
- Where can I find these flowers?
- High up on the rocky cliffs over there. You'll need to do a little climbing to get to them.
- I have a question about another ingredient.
- This had better be worth it.
- Where should I look for mushrooms?
- Look inside the cave outside of camp. Red caps thrive in dank environments.
- I have another question.
- Mushrooms. Right.
- Just snow?
- Any old snow will do, though check the color first. Heh. Heh heh heh. *cough* I need it unmelted though, otherwise it's just water. So don't waste time getting it back here.
- I have other questions.
- Thanks for the info.
- Uh...grubs?
- You get used to the taste. Just don't think about it, and you'll be fine. Promise! Find the luminescent ones in caves. They have a magical tang. And I want them fresh, so capture them alive!
- I have other questions.
- Gross.
- I'll find you those ingredients.
- I have to go.
- I have some armor I need repaired. (if armor is broken)
- Good as new! Don't get killed, okay? Would hate for you to undo my work.
- I make no promises.
- I found a flower.
- I found a mushroom.
- I found some snow.
- I found a grub...unfortunately.
- I...haven't. And based on how dilated your eyes are, I think I'll refrain.
Gathering ingredients for Nicabar Steelweaver:
- Nicabar Steelweaver: That's enough! Bring me what you've got!
- Nicabar Steelweaver: This'll put some fur on your chest. And other places.
Approaching a bear:
- Veteran Bear threatens <Character name>.
Talking with Nicabar Steelweaver after completion:
- Why are there two of you?
- My "twin" and I think that maybe you should slow down on the tonics.
Approaching Vishen Steelshot:
- One of:
- Vishen Steelshot: Hey. Wanna see something cool?
- Vishen Steelshot: Come here. I don't bite...hard.
- Vishen Steelshot: Recruit. I've got something to show ya.
Talking with Vishen Steelshot:
- Grunts don't appreciate the beauty of a well-made rifle. But you look different. You should take her for a spin; we could always use more deadeyes.
- This your perch?
- You could call it that. "Perimeter defense" if we're being technical. Snowstorm brought out the icebrood. Look at them down there. Like shooting snowmen with a cannon. Wanna take a crack?
- Why not.
- I'll leave you and your rifle alone.
- Hand it over.
- Lemme think on it.
During Vishen's event:
- Vishen Steelshot: (sigh) This'll be fun.
- Vishen Steelshot: Target eliminated.
Talking with Vishen Steelshot after completion:
- Hmm...
- What?
- Just thinking rifle things.
- Riiiight.
- Meh.
Inside the tank:
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Careful with that!
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Having fun back there?
Camp ambient dialogue:
- Iron Legion Engineer (1): The Steel Warband's a well-oiled machine.
- Iron Legion Engineer (2): This tank's gonna be a well-oiled machine once I'm through with it.
- Iron Legion Engineer (1): Do you listen to the words that come out of your mouth?
- Iron Legion Engineer (1): Does a tank really need rifles, harpoons, AND grenade launchers?
- Iron Legion Engineer (2): The answer's definitely yes.
- Iron Legion Engineer (1): And you're definitely an idiot.
- Iron Legion Engineer (2): What I wouldn't give to take that tank for a test drive.
- Iron Legion Engineer (1): Aren't you on vehicular probation after you crashed that copter?
- Iron Legion Engineer (2): Let me dream.
- Ash Legion Scout: Wish we could see the Steel Warband in action. I've heard some stories.
- Flame Legion Stalker: Mmm. What I wouldn't give to have Ryland's cubs...
- Ash Legion Scout: What?
- Flame Legion Stalker: Hmm?
- Ash Legion Scout: What do you think of our imperator?
- Flame Legion Stalker: He's bold. Resolute. Way better than Efram. I can't stand weak charr.
- Flame Legion Stalker: Once Bangar sees his plan through, the charr will be on top where we belong.
- Ash Legion Scout: Can't happen soon enough. Seeing outsiders in Grothmar made my stomach churn.
Gathering before moving out of the camp:
- Cinder Steeltemper: Warband's ready to move out, Ryland.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Is that how you address your centurion, soldier?
- (Everyone laughs)
- Ranoah Grindsteel: That promotion already going to your head, chief?
- Cinder Steeltemper: He's a big shot now that he's Bangar's golden cub.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: All right, all right. Let's get a move on before we freeze our tails off.
Moving out:
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Wooooohooo! This is what I'm talkin' about!
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Don't get carried away, cub. Still got a mission to complete.
- Cinder Steeltemper: Nica, you're barely older than the rest of us.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Huh. I thought he was like a million years old.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Stow the chatter; we have incoming.
If the tank takes too much damage (more than 50%[verification requested]), it will be disabled, becoming immobile and unenterable. Ranoah will natter at you until you repair it:
- One of:
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Need a little help here. Bring some scrap over to fix her up.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Tank won't be going anywhere 'til she gets patched up.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Hey, team? Could use a little assistance!
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Tank's in trouble. Get my baby up and running!
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Taking heavy damage! Tank's gonna need some repairs.
If inside the tank when only 10% health left:
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Bail out! She's in critical condition!
Approaching the first area:
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Who wants to go to a Metal Legion concert when this is all over with?
- Cinder Steeltemper: Eh. I'm not really into heavy metal.
- Vishen Steelshot: Doesn't matter who's playing after you've slammed down twelve or so Nicabar specials.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Recruits, my tonics are for medicinal purposes and not to be abused for any psychoactive side effects!
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Sure thing, Nica.
Crossing the bridge:
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Nica, this brew is disgusting! What'd you put in it?
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Grubs are molting this time of year, so there might be some molting-gland secretions adding a little uh...extra viscosity.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: What— I'm gonna...
- Vishen Steelshot: Hm. Tell me more about these secretions.
- Cinder Steeltemper: This conversation's over.
During Vishen's event:
- Vishen Steelshot: I have a visual on the enemy. Snipers to my position.
- Vishen Steelshot: Here, take my spare rifle. Train your sights on your enemies. Control your breathing. And...squeeze. The rush is something else.
- You don't need to tell me twice.
- Maybe some other time.
- Vishen Steelshot: All targets eliminated.
- Vishen Steelshot: Sweet dreams.
Eliminating the icebrood:
- One of
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Put the flamethrower away, Cinder! You're scaring the recruits! Again.
- Cinder Steeltemper: They'll be fine. Gotta teach 'em the pecking order.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: I think you made your point, Cinder! Put the flamethrower away!
- Cinder Steeltemper: Aww, I was just gettin' started.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Put the flamethrower away, Cinder! You're scaring the recruits! Again.
After a right turn:
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Ranoah, you really believe all that stuff Bangar's selling?
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Well... What's wrong with wanting to be "one charr"? I mean, I think that sounds like a good thing.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: We're an independent warband fighting for a breakaway legion under a rogue imperator. That sound like "one charr" to you?
- Ranoah Grindsteel: We're a KICKASS independent warband fighting for a... whatever you just said.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Ryland, you agree with me, right?
- Ryland Steelcatcher: I get orders and I follow them. That's what a soldier does.
Arriving at tar elemental grounds:
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Tank vibrations are making the locals restless.
- Vishen Steelshot: They certainly keep me up at night.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: We've got some unexpected visitors!
- Cinder Steeltemper: Cover the tank, recruits!
- Cinder Steeltemper: Claws out, recruits! I'll buy an ale for anyone who racks up more kills than me!
On Cinder's event success:
- One of:
- Cinder Steeltemper: I'll get the barbeque going.
- Cinder Steeltemper: Watch your tails.
- Cinder Steeltemper: These look flammable. Let's find out.
On failure:
- Cinder Steeltemper: I was hoping to be impressed.
Eliminating the icebrood:
- Vishen Steelshot: All targets eliminated.
Approaching the area with the Gate:
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Don't think the tank'll make it through that storm, chief.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: If we cut through the ruins, we can avoid the blizzard altogether.
- Vishen Steelshot: Those ruins belonged to the Stone Summit dwarves. Slavers. Cannibals. Performers of profane rituals.
- Vishen Steelshot: Oh, who knows what monstrosities lurk in these ancient, almost-certainly-haunted ruins.
- Cinder Steeltemper: Vishen. We didn't prep for an evil dwarf excursion.
- Vishen Steelshot: I'll send up a flare for reinforcements.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: No flare. Bangar trusted us to handle this on our own; that's what we're gonna do.
Getting supplies for Nicabar:
- One of:
- Nicabar Steelweaver: We could use a supply run!
- Nicabar Steelweaver: These are good ingredients for my special brews.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Those flowers are perfect for my tonics.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Let's stock up.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Did you find any of the ingredients I need to make tonics? We'll need 'em.
- I found a flower. (with an Alpine Blossom)
- I found a grub...unfortunately. (with a Grub)
- I have some armor I need repaired.
- Good as new! Don't fight any bears, okay?
- That won't be a problem.
- I'll be right back.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: That's enough! Bring me what you've got!
- One of:
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Just what the doctor ordered! Disclaimer: I have no formal medical training.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: This'll put some fur on you chest. And other places.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: One batch of Nicabar Special tonic, coming right up!
Approaching the Gate:
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Ranoah, get us through that door.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Thought you'd never ask!
- Cinder Steeltemper: Time to bring down the gate. Use the harpoons!
- Cinder Steeltemper: Gate's open! Steel Warband, move in!
- Vishen Steelshot: We've done some stupid things before, but this is something else!
- One of:
- Ryland Steelcatcher: I think you made your point, Cinder! Put the flamethrower away!
- Cinder Steeltemper: Aww. I was just gettin' started.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Cinder, is the flamethrower really necessary?
- Cinder Steeltemper: It's not not necessary.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: I think you made your point, Cinder! Put the flamethrower away!
Entering the ruins:
- Veteran Stone Summit Cannoneer: (terrifying otherworldly howl)
- One of:
- Cinder Steeltemper: Something's not happy with us.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: What the hell was that?
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Aren't these dwarves supposed to be extinct?
- Vishen Steelshot: Don't ask me; this was your plan.
Picking up a Stone Cannon:
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Careful with that thing!
During Vishen's event:
- Vishen Steelshot: There's a vantage point this way.
- Vishen Steelshot: Take this rifle. Focus your fire on those shielded dwarves. We have to protect the warband!
- The last thing they'll see is the glint of my scope.
- Not now.
- Vishen Steelshot: We can get to high ground from here
- Vishen Steelshot: This is great.
Further in the ruins:
- One of:
- Ryland Steelcatcher Keep the tank moving.
- Cinder Steeltemper: Area's secure. Roll out.
- Cinder Steeltemper: There's too many of these damn dwarves!
- Nicabar Steelweaver: They don't seem to be...alive. What kind of magic is this?
- Ryland Steelcatcher: I don't know!
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Magic or not, a tank blast to the face works just the same!
Leaving the ruins:
- One of:
- Ryland Steelcatcher Keep the tank moving.
- Cinder Steeltemper: Area's secure. Roll out.
- Vishen Steelshot: Even the wildlife's unhappy with our little intrusion.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Why do you sound excited?
- Cinder Steeltemper: Who's gonna kill more skelk than me? Give it your best shot!
Approaching the area before the second Gate:
- Cinder Steeltemper: Give 'em steel and fire!
- Vishen Steelshot: Just putting it out there: still got that flare.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Negative. We do this on our own.
Starting Nicabar's event:
- One of:
- Nicabar Steelweaver: We could use a supply run!
- Nicabar Steelweaver: All these mushrooms...am I in paradise?
During Nicabar's event:
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Did you find any of the ingredients? I need to make tonics for the warband. Seriously.
- I found a mushroom. (with a Cave Mushroom)
- I found some snow. (with Snow)
- I have some armor I need repaired.
- Good as new! Don't fight any bears, okay?
- That won't be a problem.
- I'll be back.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Are those mushrooms? Looks like the good stuff.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: That's enough! Bring me what you've got!
- One of:
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Went a bit heavy on the mushrooms. Shouldn't kill ya.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Tonicology is an art! And Nicabar is an "artiste."
- Nicabar Steelweaver: This one's ready. Careful, it's an acquired taste.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Hope you're ready for new taste sensations!
During Vishen's event:
- Vishen Steelshot: I have a visual on the enemy. Snipers to my position.
- Vishen Steelshot: Help me keep all these dwarves at bay. Who knew such little runts could be so grouchy. You...you think they're cannibals?
- They're about to eat lead.
- I gotta go.
- Vishen Steelshot: All targets eliminated.
- Vishen Steelshot: (sigh) Go get 'em.
After defeating the champion:
- Cinder Steeltemper: That sure riled them up.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Ranoah, get your back against the wall.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: You know how hard it is to steer this thing?
After the Gate opened:
- One of:
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Um, just so we're clear, the tank can't swim.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Uh... There seems to be a hole where the bridge should be.
- One of:
- Cinder Steeltemper: There's gotta be a way to get that bridge working, recruits.
- Cinder Steeltemper: Recruits, get that bridge extended!
Arriving at the final fight:
- Vishen Steelshot: I think you know what I'm about to say.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Shoot the damn flare.
During the fight:
- On portal spawn; one of:
- Ryland Steelcatcher: It's calling reinforcements! Take out the portals!
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Recruits, handle those portals!
- Ranoah Grindsteel: We can't leave those portals up.
Upon the defiance bar unlocking:
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Recruits! Bring it down with the harpoons!
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Tank's in position. Now's our chance to harpoon that thing!
After breaking the defiance bar:
- One of:
- Ryland Steelcatcher: It's down! Hit it hard!
- Cinder Steeltemper: Now's our chance! Throw everything you've got at it!
- Vishen Steelshot: We've got him bound, vulnerable, and totally helpless! Fire at will!
Boss at half health:
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Where's the reinforcements? They should be here by now.
- Cinder Steeltemper: Looks like we're on our own. Recruits, hold the line!
After boss defeat:
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Down he goes! Steel and fire, baby!
- Vishen Steelshot: Guess we didn't need the flare after all.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Never a doubt in my mind.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Everybody okay?
- Cinder Steeltemper: We're all in one piece.
Meeting up with Bangar:
- Cinder Steeltemper: Imperator Ruinbringer! Eyes front!
- Bangar Ruinbringer: At ease, soldiers. Centurion Steelcatcher, we were expecting the tank at Bjora's Pass.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Complications with the storm, sir. Had to take a detour.
- Bangar Ruinbringer: If you had everything under control, why the distress signal?
- Ryland Steelcatcher: Miscalculation, sir.
- Bangar Ruinbringer: I see. The storm's hit us pretty hard, so Centurion Steelcatcher and I will find an alternate route through the pass.
- Cinder Steeltemper: I can provide a security detail, sir.
- Ryland Steelcatcher: The imperator's given his orders. Stand by and await further instruction, soldier.
Talking with Cinder Steeltemper:
- Cinder Steeltemper: What is it, recruit.
- What is it?
- Things got pretty rough back there.
- Cinder Steeltemper: Centurion Steelcatcher and I appreciate you stepping up to help with our "unforeseen obstacles."
- Cinder Steeltemper: That's how it goes sometimes. Field conditions change and we have to adapt. The fahrar doesn't teach you everything.
- Cinder Steeltemper: Ryland's usually more cautious though. He's been pushing us harder lately, and the warband's up to the challenge, but...
- Cinder Steeltemper: It just means we have to be better. The Steel Warband's earned its reputation, and we intend on keeping it.
- Cinder Steeltemper: You ever need any advice, I'll be here.
- What's the deal with you and the centurion?
- Cinder Steeltemper: Well, aren't you a nosy little recruit?
- Cinder Steeltemper: Ryland and I came up in the fahrar together. He bailed us out more times than I can count.
- Cinder Steeltemper: He's always trying to do what's right. That's why he's got our loyalty.
- That's all for now.
Talking with Nicabar Steelweaver:
- Nicabar Steelweaver: You did good out there.
- You did good out there.
- What's your story?
- Nicabar Steelweaver: I used to run with the Renegades. Hated humans with a burning passion; would've been proud to die for the cause.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Then I uh...realized how much of a dumbass I was and the meaninglessness of war with humans.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: I was lost for a while; felt like I had no purpose. Until I met Cinder, who brought me into Steel.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: It's a good crew. They're my family.
- You're really into tonics.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: Is it that obvious? After my time with the Renegades, I had the desire to create something for once.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: When I'm brewing tonics, all my troubles just melt away. I feel so connected to Tyria, like I'm becoming one with nature.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: That's probably the mushrooms.
- Nicabar Steelweaver: That could be true.
- See you later.
Talking with Vishen Steelshot:
- Vishen Steelshot: Great. I love waiting around for orders.
- Might as well clean my rifle while we've got some downtime.
- Somehow we made it in one piece...
- Vishen Steelshot: I know, so much fun! I'm starting to like "new Ryland."
- Vishen Steelshot: Cinder's been kinda worried since he became centurion, but I don't see what the big deal is.
- Vishen Steelshot: If I'm being honest, I think Ryland's got an alluring, masculine thing going on.
- Vishen Steelshot: Once you start climbing the ladder, you gotta see how high it goes. It's like catnip.
- Vishen Steelshot: Personally, ladders don't do it for me. I'm happy as long as I have a big gun and things to shoot at.
- What are you going to do after this mission?
- Vishen Steelshot: Eat. Dunno if you've heard, but I have a proclivity for steak, meat pie, sausage...all manner of dead animal, really.
- Vishen Steelshot: One year I scared Ranoah at Meatoberfest.
- Vishen Steelshot: If you've never had dolyak, I recommend it. When you get the sear just right, it's got phenomenal flavor and mouthfeel.
- Vishen Steelshot: Mm, damnit, recruit, you've made me hungry. Thanks a lot.
- Until next time.
Talking with Ranoah Grindsteel:
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Aww, tank time's over already?
- You did great out there, you know that?
- What do you think of the imperator?
- Ranoah Grindsteel: He's the "ruinbringer" of good vibes—that's for sure—but Bangar's the smartest of the imperators.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: We're charr. He's fighting for the charr. I don't see what's so controversial.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Oh, you know General Almorra of the Vigil? I heard she and Bangar had—well, I don't like to gossip.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Okay, I do like to gossip, but Cinder told me to stop spreading rumors among the new recruits.
- That tank is something else.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Sure is. My favorite perk of being in this warband is having access to the shiniest new toys in the charr arsenal.
- Vishen Steelshot: Gee, thanks.
- Ranoah Grindsteel: Oh, I also like my teammates! 'Specially you, Vishen.
- Vishen Steelshot: Mmhmm.
- Talk to you later.
Approaching the gate without Darkrime Delves story active:
- Awake from the Vision: Awaken and return to the Scrying Pool?
- Yes.
- Not right now.
Notes[edit]
- You will be under the Vision of the Eye effect during this strike mission.
- Many of the dialogues are situational and have several variants, thus it is not possible to hear all during one run.[1]
- Awake from the Vision portal map icon functions like a regular waypoint. Its mouse-over description reads "Vision Exit. Click to awaken". Clicking it will bring up a prompt "Exit the vision and return to the Scying Pool?" similar to the waypointing confirmation prompt.
- Straying too far from the boundary of the area will prompt a warning and the Vision Boundary effect, covering your screen in darkness. If you keep moving away, you will be teleported back to the closest waypoint.
- Standing in lava or hot water will give you the Extreme Heat effect.
