Splitting this page into 2[edit]

Forging steel should be included with the other strike missions. As such, it should have its own page in case of any future changes/balancing/reward tables. In accordance with [Strike Mission: Shiverpeaks Pass], I'm suggesting the strike mission be moved to [Strike Mission: Forging Steel] OR that the story page be moved to [Forging Steel (Story)] and the strike mission take over the Forging Steel page. I feel that people are more likely to search wanting the strike mission than the story mission.--Rain Spell (talk) 00:09, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

I've split the article as suggested. I was also wondering about documenting the areas within the strike mission. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 09:30, 22 March 2020 (UTC)
I just want to say, that the strike is NOT called Strike Mision: Forging Steel, unlike Strike Mission: Shiverpeaks Pass <- that's how the instance is called on loading screen and in API, whereas Forging Steel is just...Forging Steel, so Forging Steel (Strike Mission) would be the correct name. ~SimeUser Sime Maraca Choya.pngTalk 14:39, 22 March 2020 (UTC)
Oh I had no idea. I was just looking through the Strike Missions list to see if there was precedence and figured Shiverpeaks was named that way for location conflict reasons. I did think it was weird that it deviated from the traditional naming scheme. Thanks for pointing that out!--Rain Spell (talk) 20:09, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

Missing rank[edit]

Missing at least one possible rank: "Legionnaire" (not sure where it lies in the hierarchy).

Also would be nice to understand exactly how you end up with what rank, but probably nobody cares enough to test it enough to figure that out. At least knowing how to get Imperator would be good info. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 99.137.159.43 (talk).

Thanks, I must have missed that one. I might do some testing once SAB is over, if you want to as well, feel free to do so. DJemba (talk) 08:54, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
"Guide" how to get imperator rank is listed under the related achievement, guess it could be copied over under the rank section as well. ~SimeUser Sime Maraca Choya.pngTalk 13:16, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Might be good to add that this strike (uniquely) scales to the number of players in it, i.e. it is soloable and that may be the best way to complete many of the achievements.

Rewards[edit]

Are you sure the stone summit box and exotic come from the instance reward itself? Afaik, those are both drops from the chests. DJemba (talk) 21:41, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Not sure about exotics but yes that box were droped from a bonus event chest after finishing Forging Steel strike mission. That is why I wrote it there and why I even asked others if you get an exotics. If you are interested in that box Im selling it =P --DiegoDeLaHouska (talk) 22:48, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Strike mission or not[edit]

Forging Steel is not a strike mission. Anet classifies it as Public Mission, it doesn't have a strike mission portal to enter it and it can't be accessed through the asura portal in Eye of the North which allows access to all strike missions, the wiki page calls it a strike and links it to strikes multiple times despite it having a completely different classification and functioning differently than Strike Missions. --79.116.82.236 10:14, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Granted, Forging Steel is not like most strike missions. However the clincher is that it rewards Prophet Shards, a currency only obtainable from strike missions. To answer some of your other points: It is not in the EotN portal, because it is already accessible at the other end of the hall (so it is unnecessary). It doesn't have the normal blue portal because it isn't a "current" mission, it exists only in the past as a product of the scrying pool. The "classification" as a "Public Mission" is likely to show distinction to the "Story Mission" also on the release page (strikes can be done as a public mission, or more often a squad mission, both of which are available to Forging Steel). Hopefully this clears things up? -DrDeath8520 (talk) 12:46, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
So your reasoning for classifying it as a strike despite Anet never calling it a strike and the fact that it doesn't even have a Daily Strike Mission achievement is the fact that it drops prophet shards which are technically a Strike currency but I think it's more of a currency related to repeatable content they add to Eye of the North in this case Strikes and Visions of the Past Group Missions. You say it is not available through the asura portal because it is available at other end of the room, I say it was made like that intentionally to differentiate it from Strikes. Also when they added the new strike in the latest episode for example it was immediately accessible through the portal without doing any part of the story but you can only open Forging Steel on a character that has done the story. I will concede that it does share some similarities with Strikes but it's also quite different and it shouldn't be classified as such especially since Anet themselves have not called it a strike. I expect Anet to release future missions similar to this one that will also be accessed through the scrying pool at which point the distinction between Visions of the Past missions and Strikes will become more evident or maybe Anet will decide to call the next mission a strike in which case all my points will be invalid.
It contributes to the strike reward chest you open with the three crystals, ofc its a strike. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:00, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
Instanced 10-man content, sounds like a raid strike to me! --BuffsEverywhere (talk) 08:47, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
If anet creates more content like Forging Steel and actually says, "oh btw it's not a strike it's a [blank]", then we can easily unmerge the page. It seems like a non-issue at the moment.--Rain Spell (talk) 19:14, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
Regarding ANet's classification, we've actually had this GW2Wiki Discord response from Stephane Lo Presti, our wiki liaison from ANet's side, who quoted dev Joe Kimmes on how the studio internally refers to Forging Steel: "Joe Kimmes replied to my email saying that we've internally referred to Forging Steel as a Mission with no additional descriptors." So yes, the classification has been left vague in the studio, and the Visions of the Past release page does refer to it as a public mission rather than a strike mission. Let's look at it from both points of view:
-
Points against being a strike (using Kvothe's list as a basis with some of my additions):
1) never called a strike mission directly
2) called a public mission in the blog post, and vision in the achievements
3) does not have a strike mission portal to enter - entered through the Scrying Pool, maybe it is not available at the portal because of that ;)
4) not accessible from the Eye of the North asura gate
5) does not have a Daily Strike Mission achievement associated with it
6) is easily soloable with scaling difficulty/toughness/etc. of mobs based on how many people are in the instance, and it has optional challenge motes which other strikes don't have
7) makes us actually play as different characters than our Pact Commander
-
Points for being a strike:
1) 10 people instanced
2) not a raid...well, technically (it's basically a raid easy mode with the way it's structured, IMHO, and even has minibosses to fight before the final boss!)
3) contributes to strike reward chest
4) rewards Prophet Shards like all strikes (except for the retroactively categorized strike Secret Lair of the Snowmen, funnily enough!)
5) Not all strikes are similar: Shiverpeaks Pass has a jumping puzzle section before the boss, which other strikes don't have (unless you count some side events in Forging Steel), and Cold War consists of many defense waves and minibosses before facing the final boss Varinia who actually rotates between different abilities weekly unlike other strike bosses whose abilities remain the same throughout
-
Given how ANet seems to be rather flexible about what a 'strike' or a 'mission' (see Joe's quote by Stephane above) contains content-wise at this time (see the examples from Shiverpeaks Pass and Cold War above), and how Forging Steel does award Prophet Shards and contributes to opening the weekly emissary chest in EotN (which currently has 5 spheres for the 5 related Icebrood Saga strikes), I'd say that Forging Steel should be categorized as an Icebrood Saga strike as long as it's tied to the reward chest. If we see potential future strikes being added in game and if they also appear as weekly spheres above the EotN chest, it further reinforces the argument for Forging Steel actually being a strike (even if it is a somewhat unconventional one due to its easy soloability and lack of Pact Commander shenanigans). I would actually call Forging Steel a kind of hybrid between a vision of the past (e.g. the recreated Season 1 instances and Darkrime Delves mission) and a strike but it'd fall on being categorized as a strike due to its connection to the overall Icebrood Saga strike reward structure. Just my two cents. :) --Kossage (talk) 19:52, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
It counts towards the cape (and weekly chest shards) which is basically the only thing someone without a reddit agenda really cares about with respect to whether it is a strike or not. --Life Infusion «T» 20:04, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Events[edit]

The events in the strike are technically listed in the api, see [1] for an example. Should pages be made for them? Sunlion (talk) 23:21, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

The same thing applies to raids too. Sunlion (talk) 04:33, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Boss hints[edit]

Improve the layout the boss sections into list of steps. -- Shena'Fu (talk) 15:49, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
