Retrospective Runaround (a.k.a. Drydock Scratch) is a jumping puzzle covering the underground skritt caves and clifftops in the Silverwastes where a mysterious skritt burglar has hidden Kri'chta's Dowsing Rod.
Getting there[edit]
Starting from Camp Resolve, go north-west towards Northern Shelf and then east to Picaroon Scratch. Go down the stairs along the eastern wall and then west through the cave until you reach Drydock Grotto Waypoint. If the gate at the stairs is shut and you do not have the waypoint, you'll have to complete Drive the bandits out of skritt territory (80) first.

The main goal of Retrospective Runaround is to find and pass 9 milestones that are marked with red flags that appear when reached, located in the vast underground network under the Silverwastes as well as on the cliffs above it. It doesn't contain any truly difficult jumps; rather, it focuses on the exploration and puzzle aspect. Note that it's possible in some places to fall into the general Silverwaste areas--out of the puzzle--in which case you'll have to start over, or if you paid a kit, use a skritt tunnel back to one of the last three milestones you passed. Bear in mind that completing this puzzle can take from 15 minutes up to several hours. Milestone progress is tracked by a stacking buff. If you log out and back in during the puzzle, this tracking buff remains, but you may find a kit no longer pops up to revive you when you die from a fall.
Note: The list of badges here is not complete. Keep your eye out for others. Before opening the very last chest, scroll down to read up on the diving achievement. If you return with the dowsing rod you will lose all your progress stacks and will have to redo the entire puzzle to get to the goggles again, unless you have mounts unlocked.
Starting from Drydock Grotto Waypoint, walk across the rope bridge and wooden ramps to get on top of SS Topsy-Turvy. Follow the keel left (toward the ship's stern), then jump to the cliffside and follow it right and up. A skrit kit will point out the first milestone to you. Badge: There is a Golden Lost Badge on the left wall on a small ledge right before the first milestone. If you have gliding, you can climb up a large boulder between the 1st and 2nd milestone to glide back towards the start of the puzzle, sticking to the wall on your right and you can reach it quite easily.
Run up the stone on the right and left across the wooden beam, turning right to go between the rocks. Keep going forward and curve right through a brief tunnel, then go straight ahead to the Velocity Elixir. There, turn left, rounding the sloped rock that splits the path, and after emerging between two other rocks, get on the ledge that starts low on the left wall. Take the ledge nearly to its end, then face right and jump across to a large rock near the right-hand wall. You'll see the flag for the second milestone above you. Badge: There is a Golden Lost Badge on the ledge angled up the left side of the cavern before the jump.
From the second milestone, jump down and curve left, along the right-hand wall. Run across the rock bridge and jump to the ledge by the left wall once again. Hop down to the Velocity Elixir. (If you fall on the wrong side before getting to the Elixir, backtrack and climb the ledge mentioned under the second milestone.) From the Elixir, go forward up some rocky steps into a large cavern and head for the next Elixir before you along the left wall. Standing there, ahead and to your right you'll see a rocky ledge sloping up. Run and jump up the rocks, but before you quite get to the top (or from the top), take the switchback on your right. Then switch again left, up along another spike of rock. At the top of that, you'll need to jump to and over the rocks on your left and jump again to the ledge on the wall. Face left and follow the ledge until you get to the surface, which overlooks Red Rock Bastion to the west. (In following the ledge, you'll need to curve sharply left, jump up some piled rocks, and go up another slope on your right.) At the top, run east, then cross the wooden bridge that takes you roughly north. The third milestone flag will appear ahead and to the right after the end of the bridge. Badge: There is a Golden Lost Badge that you can get before heading up the ramp. It is on a short column left of the 'doorway' in the large cavern ruins on the opposite side of the cavern to the Elixir. There is another Golden Lost Badge on a ledge near the third milestone. Cut back right after the bridge and find the badge hidden below the path on your right hand side. You can get it and head back around to the start of the bridge before carrying on.
From the third milestone, go left, hopping down a short way to a level area. You can ignore the Elixir you see off to your right. Continue west along the level area, and turn right at the rock wall in front of you. Looking over the drop-off, you'll see a spike of rock a bit to your right, and by the left wall, a wide ledge with a Chest. Drop down and open the Chest. Then drop down to the bottom and get the Elixir (its swiftness helps here) before jumping across the stone archways--and the rock on the right wall along the way--passing the next Elixir on your left. If you fall, just head back to the Elixir at the start of the archways and try again. On the last archway, turn left and jump to the ledge, then jump to the Elixir on solid ground. The fourth milestone is above your head.
Run across the cavern, up the slope. At the wall, take a right, and still curving right, follow the ledge on your left to the surface. From the Elixir on top, head southwest, and jump down and across the chasm toward the next Elixir. Go left around that Elixir, and curving to the right, jump down to the lower area, and down again into the hole to the right (north). Follow the right wall. Ahead of you, above a lower ledge, you'll see the fifth milestone flag. Badge: There is a Golden Lost Badge going up--right around step 5e. There is another Golden Lost Badge before jumping into the hole, further in on the platform.
Drop down near the flag and follow the right-hand wall to get down to the Elixir. Turn 180 degrees, walk under the rock you jumped from, and continue along the ledge with the wall on your left. Where the ledge ends, stand in the divot on your right near the edge and look down at the niche in the wall; jump carefully down there to the Grand Chest. Drop down from the niche to the wooden platform. Facing out from the wall, jump to the ledge to the right, then jump the other direction down to the Elixir on the ledge directly below the wooden platform. Keep the wall on your right as you follow the ledge and more wooden platforms until you drop down to another Elixir (drop--don't jump lest you fall past it). Put your back to the drop-off, and you'll see the sixth milestone under the wall, which is now your ceiling; the flag pops up as you run under it. Badge: Just after the 5th milestone, on the rock before you drop to the first elixer. Follow the wall NE. Go as far as you can and then glide to the wooden platform NE. Badge: To get a Golden Lost Badge, fall from the initial wooden platform under the chest, past the Elixir to the ground. After a kit revives you, go right, and you'll find the badge near the right-hand wall on a little ledge just before a long drop-off. From there, you can either drop down to the Sand Dune Cavers for the PoI or go back along the ledge until you can jump up and get to the skritt's tunnel and back to the puzzle. Sand Dune Caverns: To get to this PoI, drop past the sixth milestone. A kit will pop up out of the ground to revive you if you die. When you're done, find and use the skritt tunnel to get back on track.
Past the sixth milestone, there's a rock in the way. Carefully walk to the right around it, continue forward keeping to the left, and as you pass the other big rock, curve right. Follow the rocky bridge, jump (with Swiftness, ideally) across the gap to the Elixir. The seventh milestone pops up above you.
Jump on the rocks at the left side of the Elixir and take that higher ledge to the right (hugging the wall on your left) to get to the Splendid Chest at the end of the ledge. Go down the "steps" to your right, and jump down near the wall. At the bottom, you'll see the eighth milestone pop up above you.
Put your back to the eighth milestone, and you'll see an Elixir below. Use swiftness to jump to it, or follow the wall and jump down. Continue forward (a higher ledge and the wall on your right). Where the flat ledge narrows and meets a sloped ledge, carefully jump to it, or use a leap skill to get across. Use the small rocks to get to the higher level, and follow the wall past the falling sand to the next Elixir. Walk forward and follow yet another narrow ledge (wall still on your right). Where the ledge ends, drop down, hugging the wall, to another ledge, making sure not to drop to the dunes next to you. Continue the same direction along the sandy ledges until you see more falling sand. Go through it and jump onto the pinnacle of rock with an unmarked skritt tunnel. (Be sure to not use the skritt tunnel by Kit.)
In Quarrel Gully, your task is to navigate a maze of skritt tunnels to get to the very top. When you enter a wrong tunnel, you'll appear on top of a cauldron and you'll have to start over. (The starting skritt tunnel is one drop away from the cauldron.). This entire section can be skipped with the Springer mount by jumping up the ledges to the highest point. The chest is on the south end of Quarrel Gulley, almost into the Tangled Labyrinth map area. Be warned if you use the Springer mount you may have to backtrack a little to activate the ninth milestone, to get the achievement, and the chest.
Badge: Just before you drop down to the ledge in the first step there is a Golden Lost Badge on the edge of a ledge. With swiftness you can make the jump across. If you miss this jump you can land on the ledge to proceed or drop all the way down and use a skritt tunnel to attempt it again. Badge: On step 5 after following the stairs and just before jumping to the platform there is a Golden Lost Badge in a little cutout in the wall at the end of the stairs. Badge: On the last leg after you drop down there is a set of windows with angled window sills. On the second sill is a Golden Lost Badge. To get this badge you must carry on past it and come back along the upper ledge. There is another Golden Lost Badge up the slope before the upper ledge.
Reaching this point will award you with the Retrospective Runaround achievement. Gather 3 key fragments from the nearby rubble piles to open the Magnificent chest, which will start the Defeat the legendary skritt burglar to claim your reward (80) event (the skritt is just a normal or veteran rank, not a legendary as the name would suggest). After completing the event, it turns out the burglar was Kri'chta all long, with a plan to keep working on SS Topsy-Turvy forever. At this point, you can open the final chest, from which you'll get the Dowsing Rod you can bring to Kri'chta back on the ship to watch her inevitably fail with her ritual. Entering the skritt tunnel in the room will get you back to the waypoint. |
Tips[edit]
- Skritt tunnels marked as are dead ends and they'll send you to the beginning of the jumping puzzle.
- If you pay the kits standing next to them 1 copper, silver or gold, you'll gain a buff for an hour which will cause these holes to send you 3 milestones before, 1 milestone before or to the last milestone that you have reached instead, respectively.
- The closest such kit to the entrance is just below the first milestone behind the ship.
- In many places where you die due to falling damage, skritt will jump from the ground to revive you, but this might not always be the case. There are several drops along the way high enough to kill you.
- Not only do the Velocity Elixirs give you swiftness when you stand under them, they also usually help guide you through the correct route. Similarly, chests scattered throughout the puzzle, except the one in Quarrel Gully, guide you correctly.
Diving achievement[edit]
At the end of the jumping puzzle, if you continue along the ledge to the right of the Magnificent Chest, you will find a skritt hole beside a plank. Entering this skritt hole transports you to a rocky prominence high above the SS Topsy-Turvy. At the end of this prominence are diving goggles for the Dive Master: Drydock Scratch achievement.
If you try the dive after you've started the Defeat the legendary skritt burglar to claim your reward (80) event, then, unless you have mounts unlocked, failing the dive means the only way you can try it again is to do the entire jumping puzzle over again. Therefore, if you're interested in getting the diving achievement, don't touch the chest. If you die during your dive, Kit will revive you, and you can pay him 1 gold then enter a skritt hole to return to the milestone immediately before the chest. If your dive is successful, you can still pay him 1 gold to return to the milestone and then you can trigger the event.
You can also reach the diving goggles if you have access to mounts. Using the Springer, jump on the platform northeast of the Veteran Northern Shelf Elemental. Hug the right wall, and jump down to the platform by the hole with the SS Topsy-Turvy in it, careful not to fall in. Jump on to the rock formation by the light, and use your Raptor to jump on the platform with the Diving Goggles on it. Alternatively, use the Skyscale from the top of the SS Topsy-Turvy.

Trivia[edit]
- This jumping puzzle was added in the Seeds of Truth release.
- The achievement for this jumping puzzle is listed under General > Silverwastes as "Retrospective Runaround" and rewards the player with the Endless Skritt Burglar Tonic upon completion.
- The name of the puzzle and the dialogue of Veteran Kri'chta, Legendary Skritt Burglar, and Kit use terms from Agile software development. Terms such as "agile," "velocity," "sprint," "iterate," "burndown," "hitting milestones," "project life cycle," "backlog", and "retrospective" will be well familiar to development teams who use Agile. Also, Kit says that he is "producering;" a producer is a role in some development teams. And there is even a daily scrum meeting.
