My people tell tales of the day when we will be free, when our lands will be revealed by a heavenly star and rise. When that day comes, human, only then will our races live in peace.

The Dominion of Winds, sometimes referred to as the aerie,[1][2] is the inaccessible city of the tengu. Built atop the island formerly known as Sanctum Cay, the tengu of the world migrated here after the rise of the Elder Dragon Zhaitan, an event which they call the Great Tsunami.

There are entrances at Quetzal Bay in the Caledon Forest and the Dominion Killing Zone in Kessex Hills; however, both are currently closed off. The Shuttered Gate in Lion's Arch is said by its tengu guards to lead to the Dominion of Winds, but is not likely to lead directly there as Lion's Arch is not directly next to the Dominion of Winds, and recently the guards have been refusing to let anyone pass.[3]

History[edit]

Early years[edit]

The Dominion of Winds was founded approximately a century ago, the Canthan tengu having been led by the descendant of the Angchu Talon Silverwing through the Risen forces and cut through the Dead Ship fleets to reach land. When they arrived, they built a great wall to repel enemies and separate the tengu from the rest of the world. To this day, the wall fulfills its purpose, making it the last completely tengu-controlled area in the world.[1]

Within the city, tengu society came to be ruled by an emperor,[4] who presided over the four great houses[2]—one for each of the winds.[4][5] Other notable authority figures among the tengu included the high masters.[6] The tengu rarely left, although recently two trading outposts were settled just outside the city, namely the Hanto Trading Post and Ireko Tradecamp.

In recent times, destroyer burrows began appearing on both sides of the wall.[5]

The Icebrood Saga[edit]

The Dominion of Winds' western entrance was besieged by a large force of icebrood in 1333 AE. The icebrood attacked the nearby Town of Cathal, Caledon Haven and Hanto Trading Post on their way to the city. The siege was stopped when Kalidris Sparrowhawk, a messenger from the city, was sent to request aid. She came back with the Pact Commander, Canach and their allies and assisted the Caromi posted at the gate with repelling the icebrood and their reinforcements, led by the Frost Colossus.
