“Every time we cross paths, my reputation just gets better and better. You can call me anytime you want, Commander.
Sayida the Sly is the captain of the Sly Crew who helms The Dark Leviathan in the Domain of Istan. She is a descendant of the famous corsair Margrid the Sly.
Biography[edit]
Early years[edit]
Sayida the Sly is a descendant of the famous Elonian corsair Margrid the Sly. She eventually became the captain of the Sly Crew and helmed The Dark Leviathan in the Domain of Istan. When not doing anything else, she stopped by in the neutral zone of Freetrader Haven where all corsair crews were expected to mingle freely without killing one another. She was aware of an Awakened champion holding the coin of her ancestor in the Grotto of the Defeated. However, despite the best efforts of various corsairs to reclaim the coin over the years to earn the Slys' favor, none of them succeeded in defeating the champion.
Sayida struck a deal with Warden Amala of the Mordant Crescent, bringing back enemies of Palawa Joko's kingdom who had hefty bounties placed on their heads. Bounty hunting turned out to be quite profitable for the Slys, and Sayida did not care for the ethical implications of her work as long as the pay was good.
Living World Season 4[edit]
Daybreak[edit]
In 1330 AE, Amala received the latest quarry from Sayida: Spearmarshal Zaeim who had been leading the Sunspear revolt in Istan against Palawa Joko's regime. Sayida had successfully ambushed the Spearmarshal who had been en route to reclaim Champion's Dawn from the Awakened.
An hour after returning from the Mordant Crescent Great Hall, Sayida encountered another would-be quarry: the Pact Commander who had traveled to the Corsair Flotilla to trade Margrid's coin for Zaeim's freedom. Surprised that the Commander had bested the Awakened champion whom no one had been able to defeat before, Sayida revealed that she had already handed the Spearmarshal in and that breaking him out of the great hall would be no easy feat. She also noticed the Commander's shadowy companion, Shadows Agent Kito, whose sudden appearance on her ship annoyed her greatly.
The Commander and Kito swayed Sayida to their side by offering her not only the coin but also the bounty on the Commander's head in exchange for freeing Zaeim. The Sly captain agreed to the terms, letting the pair in on a plan to drug the Awakened guards with an especially strong corsair grog; however, the Commander would first have to find the ingredients to brew the grog from other corsair crews and from remote locations all around Istan, which would be no simple task either.
The Commander proved to be resourceful, however, by successfully gathering all the needed ingredients, and before long the grog was ready to be shipped. Sayida promised to meet with the Commander at the great hall but not before issuing a warning to Kito: if the Order of Shadows agent ever appeared on her ship unannounced again, she would personally kill him.
True to her word, Sayida and her crew mates met with the Commander at the gates of the great hall and shackled the Commander to make the prisoner act look more convincing. Warden Amala was surprised by Sayida's success but was unable to learn how the corsair had managed to best the infamous Commander who was one of the most notorious enemies of the state.
Before leaving with the gold, Sayida insisted on offering the warden and her minions a drink of the famous corsair grog in Joko's honor, arguing that refusing the offer would displease the lich king who wanted his name to be praised. Amala reluctantly agreed but quickly focused on the Commander when she heard a strange voice calling for the Commander. Angry and suspicious, the warden knocked the Commander unconscious and had them dragged to the dungeon. She recovered a remote communicator from the Commander's belongings for further study.
Later that day, the spiced grog began affecting the Awakened who became intoxicated and passed out, allowing the Commander and Zaeim to escape the dungeon as planned. Amala confronted Sayida and her crew about the ruse, having expected such a trick from the Commander but not from the corsairs. By the time the Commander and Zaeim arrived on the scene, Amala announced that Joko had ordered her to kill the Commander. The warden entered the fray, focusing on slaughtering everyone present and holding her ground while battling the Commander, Zaeim and the corsairs. However, she was ultimately defeated, and the Commander recovered the stolen communicator from her body, hearing Taimi being assaulted by what sounded like Joko himself.
Sayida was willing to offer to help the Commander rescue Taimi in exchange for a fee, but Zaeim, remembering the corsair ambushing and selling him out to the Mordant Crescent earlier, urged the Commander to refuse her offer. Annoyed by the pair's bickering and worried for Taimi, the Commander handed over Margrid's coin to Sayida as promised. The Sly Crew made their leave from the great hall just as it came under assault by the Sunspears and the Commander's companions whom Kito had promised to bring along to aid the group in the prison break. Having concluded her business with the Commander, Sayida returned to the Corsair Flotilla. She was content with having recovered her long lost family heirloom at long last.
A Bug in the System[edit]
Sayida used the money obtained from the bounties to buy an airship. Taimi then reached out to her for her assistance with breaking into the Inquest facility of Rata Primus, which Joko's forces had invaded. Sayida agreed to help with the assault as long as the Commander disabled the shield guarding the facility.
The Commander and their allies, including the Olmakhan charr who had resolved to fight the Inquest, boarded to ship to assault Rata Primus. Soon, the airship was assaulted by Inquest air defenses, which Boticca and her fellow Olmakhan incapacitated by channeling a storm. The airship was then boarded by Inquest forces whom the Commander fought off with help of their allies. The airship could not go much further into the facility, and the Commander and their allies continued the fight on foot.
The Commander and their norn ally Braham Eirsson were teleported back onto her airship after they had successfully defeated Commander Lonai who had been leading the Awakened invaders at Joko's behest. They observed the destruction of Rata Primus together after which Sayida complimented the style of their infiltration. This successful assault would significantly boost her and the Sly Crew's reputation. Sayida informed the Commander that they could contact her anytime.
Long Live the Lich[edit]
When Joko had successfully used Inquest samples he had stolen from Rata Primus to rejuvenate the Scarab Plague and intended to unleash it on Central Tyria and beyond, Taimi contacted Sayida at the Commander's behest to ask for her corsairs' aid in the assault on Joko's headquarters at Gandara, the Moon Fortress where Joko was breeding the scarabs. Sayida was tasked with destroying any launched ships containing the Scarab Plague from Gandara to prevent the pestilence from spreading.[1]
All or Nothing[edit]
Sayida would provide further aid a few months later, when she became involved in fighting the Elder Dragon Kralkatorrik. Her airship helped transport troops to Thunderhead Keep, where a plan was hatched to lure the Elder Dragon out of the Mists so he could be killed. Sayida helped plant the explosives in order to bring down the mountain to trap Kralkatorrik. But she also needed help in getting the supply chain up and running and preventing corsairs and Pact soldiers from killing each other. Sayida then planned to help the take down of Kralkatorrik by blasting him with a full barrage of Brand crystals during his way in. Sayida's airship fleet was hit by a storm, when Kralkatorrik left the Mists, but was still able to unleash a full barrage. She witnessed Kralkatorrik leaving as Aurene was defeated.
War Eternal[edit]
Sayida attended the subsequent memorial for Aurene and compliments Aurene's fighting spirit. She witnessed Aurene miraculous revival and followed the Pact fleet over the Unending Ocean. Her fleet was used to transport Zafirah and the members of the Order of the Crystal Bloom towards the newly created island of Dragonfall. Sayida informed her allies that Glint's armies are amassing in the south and that the spirit of Gwen Thackeray wanted to speak her descendant Logan Thackeray. She committed to reconnaissance and air support and circled the island in her airship together with Taimi. She continued this work throughout the final fight with Kralkatorrik.
Her airship was used after the fight to transport the Commander and their allies to Lion's Arch. She pressed the Commander not to reveal too much of her help to the rest of the world, because she had a reputation to protect as a corsair.

After the battle of Dragonfall, Sayida traveled in the company of the sylvari Canach, helping him collect his money from betting on the deeds of the Pact Commander.[2]

Dialogue[edit]
Domain of Istan[edit]
- What else could you possibly want from me?
- (If Good, Better, Nest is active)
- Taimi sent me. It's about Aurene.
- (Before completing Maintain peace and order in the corsair flotilla)
- Ah yes, I received Taimi's note. An upset dragon isn't much fun. However, I've got my hands full at present.
- With what?
- Scrapping crews, flying bombs, mixed-up inventory... I can't get a good think in.
- I'll see what I can do.
- (After completing Maintain peace and order in the corsair flotilla)
- I'm going to send her one of our finest blankets. The kind my mother wrapped me in. Maybe that one, there.
- You're pointing at a flag.
- Flag, blanket—depends what you use 'em for. Soft as clouds, I promise. Still sleep in one sometimes.
- I'm sure Aurene will appreciate it.
- I have some questions.
- What do you wanna know?
- Tell me more about this grog.
- Why does each crew hold a different ingredient for this grog?
- Sayida the Sly: It's for...let's call it insurance.
- Sayida the Sly: There was one time we made the mistake of having a single corsair guard ALL of the ingredients, while we went out carousing.
- Sayida the Sly: Woke up the next morning, to find our pockets empty and the Corsair gone. Headed north to Vabbi, apparently. With everything we had.
- Sayida the Sly: After that, we made an old-fashioned accord to store each ingredient separately. That way, we all know who's brewing up a batch.
- Can you tell me more about the different corsair crews?
- Sayida the Sly: It's a minor miracle we can trade without killing each other.
- Sayida the Sly: The Alehounds' top priority is removing anything that stands between them and their next drink.
- Sayida the Sly: The Stonefists never turn down a fight. Ever. I've seen 'em refuse to leave a sinking ship if it would interrupt a brawl.
- Sayida the Sly: The Powderkegs love to blow things up. Sometimes those things include their own ships.
- Sayida the Sly: And we Slys prefer to work behind the scenes. A word in the right ear, or a dagger in the right back, saves time and money.
- Never mind.
Thunderhead Peaks[edit]
- Prior to completing the heart
- My hands are a little full right now.
- I can see that. Anything I can do?
- We need to gather our scattered supplies and run them up to the Forge, but a lot of Branded are in our way—and the infighting between my corsairs and the Pact isn't helping much, either.
- Where are the supplies now?
- All around us, unfortunately. They fell from the hold when our airship crashed.
- I've got another question.
- I'll look for them.
- What's going on with your corsairs and the Pact?
- Things were tense on the ships to begin with. The Pact's all about order, and my corsairs...well. They're corsairs. Then we lost a ship in the Brandstorm. It was all downhill from there.
- Have you tried asking Logan for help?
- I send him the rowdiest corsairs for training, but that doesn't solve much.
- I've got another question.
- Ah, well.
- I have another question.
- I'll see what I can do.
- What's that strange sound I'm hearing?
- The Zephyrites we transported here won't be fighting, exactly, because they're a peaceful order. They're planning to use music to disrupt Kralkatorrik. Don't ask me how.
- I have another question.
- Interesting.
- I have another question.
- Thanks for the update.
- How's the supply line to the Forge?
- Talk to Supply Foreman Alan over by the supplies. He has information that can help.
- I have another question.
- Got it.
- Good luck.
- After completing the heart
- We can't thank you enough for your assistance, Commander. What can I do for you?
- Priory have anything to trade? Do the
- How's the supply line to the Forge? (see above)
- Happy to help. Carry on.

Notes[edit]
- Sayida's airship from A Bug in the System is a unique model. Like the Aetherblades' and Ellen Kiel's airships it has asuran magitech, but unlike those it has a black/transparent coloring. Furthermore, inside is a large asuran device that blocks off the lower level of the airship.
Trivia[edit]
- Sayida is voiced by Sumalee Montano.
- Sayida means "noble lady" in Arabic.
- Her blade can be found atop of The Dark Leviathan.
