All professions

Travel to Concordia in Timberline Falls. Speak with the various NPCs as indicated until you are told to go rescue the research teams in Rankor Ruins.

Make sure that after the NPC gives you the warning from the Rankor Ruins dig site that you do NOT follow Trahaerne when he runs off to the ruins even though that seems like the obvious thing to do. Talk to Tactician Art before following Trahearne.

Meet up outside the dig site with Trahearne, Crusader Arafen, and Agent Zrii (who disappears shortly on a reconnaissance mission). Proceed into the ruins and eradicate the Risen. When you reach the circle move to the back of the camp so that Trahearne passes the dead Priory Scholar - at which point the objective will update and you should backtrack to the next circular objective marker.

Here you will find three researchers who have barricaded themselves off from the Risen. Fight off five waves, including one wave with two Veteran Risen Krait Damoss in it, until the objective marker moves into the Ural's Delve caves, where another research team awaits rescue.

The cave entrance is down the hill and to the right, obscured by some plants. Head into the caves, clearing out further undead until you get to the second research team, where you will find a Savage Risen Abomination (veteran) attacking them. Talking to Kekt after defeating the Abomination will start another cinematic.

Head south after the cinematic. When you get to the southern exit, a bone wall sprouts out of the ground and bars the way out. Trahearne suspects that this is a trap, and decides to summon several Necromancer minions to aid in the escape. After talking to Trahearne, several Risen will spawn behind you - kill these and fight your way back to the original cave entrance.

After finally reaching the exit, there is a final boss battle against Dzhudin Stormbreak, a Champion Wraith, and several Hulking Risen Abominations. Fortunately, you have lots of NPC allies to help deal and absorb damage. After the Abominations are down, try to revive any allies that were defeated. The Wraith has a large amount of health, but is more annoying than dangerous. He will frequently create AoE fields which turn into Static Fields and stun any allies standing within them after a second or so. It is helpful to use ranged attacks at this part, since the Wraith might sit inside a field or cast it around you. He also teleports around and shoots lightning for low damage. The mission ends once you have defeated the Wraith.

Regarding a Critical Mission

My friend,
It's time to begin the Pact's unified effort against Zhaitan. Our future headquarter is already under construction, but I need your input on another important matter: I have called representatives from all three orders in to present my initial proposals on the Pact's command structure, logistics, combat strategies, and other vital issues. I need you there. Please join me in Concordia as soon as you can.

At Concordia[edit]

If human:

Logan Thackeray

Defender of Lion's Arch

If you were not a hero before, you certainly are now! Lion's Arch is in an uproar, celebrating your victory and this new "pact" between the Orders. By the Six, you have truly shown your mettle! I knew you would be a star in the heavens, but even I did not think you would rise so soon. Well done, my friend, extremely well done.
Since I have left Kryta, I become more and more certain this was the right thing to do. So many other parts of the world are worse off than our kingdom. It is disheartening. I hear that Zojja and Eir are headed toward Dredgehaunt Cliffs (for what reason, I can't guess). In the spirit of your victory and unification of the three Orders, I've decided to set upon a journey that seems long overdue—to find Rytlock, and offer him the hand of friendship. The High Legions are once more under attack from an old enemy, the Flame Legion. Perhaps that will convince him that he still needs an old friend.

If norn:

Eir Stegalkin

Legendary Victory

Slayer of Issormir!
By the four great Spirits, but your legend grows like a young wolf! The rumors in Lion's Arch say that you and Trahearne fought against the dragon's minions, and that you single handedly wrestled the Plaguebringer to the ground. The city celebrates your victory, the like of which I have not seen since my days as a gladiator! And Orr, they say, is your next goal—Orr, and the dragon. I am truly proud, my friend. You have come so far from our days in the Shiverpeaks.

Caithe came to speak with me at my campfire last night. She says that Zojja is headed into danger. That little asura's stubborn mind will be her end, mark my words. Caithe is convinced that we must help her. I pondered this, but in the end agreed—I must show my respect for Snaff. I must do as he would wish, and that means keeping Zojja alive even if she is foolish. Saving Zojja from whatever trouble she's found will be a glorious adventure. Your victory inspires me!

I will write to you again, soon, and tell you how this story ends.

If asura:

Defeat is Inconceivable

I have to thank you. You just won me a hundred platinum from an old college friend. After I heard that Claw Island had been overrun, I bet them that you'd be the one to solve the problem and break all the dragon's toys. It's easy to be proud of you when I also get to rub it into the Arcane Council's faces. Ha!

Combining the Orders was a stroke of genius. I don't know how you did it, but your efficient use of available resources deserves another award. Speaking of awards—it's come to my attention that another of my Master's apprentices has been causing trouble up near Sorrow's Embrace. Kudu never had two sparks to rub between his ears, and now he's claiming to have invented the biggest golem in history? I'll believe it when I blow it up.

Keep up the good work,

If charr:

Rytlock Brimstone

A Resounding Victory

Even as far away as the Black Citadel, the drums of your victory are sounding. You reclaimed a fortress from the dragon—and more, used your might to force the Orders into a pact of alliance. Bravely done.

At home, we fare less well. Interrogated captives from the Flame Legion report that their Imperator, Gaheron Baelfire, is building a mighty weapon in the fire-mountains north of Ascalon. They do not know its nature, but say that when he is done, Gaheron will be powerful enough to rival even the human gods. Whatever this weapon may be, if it is so powerful, it could be used to destroy Zhaitan and Orr. Once I have more information, I will head into the Flame Legion lands and seize it for the High Legions. No matter the cost.

There are rumors of Zojja and Eir. Zojja hunts another of Snaff's apprentices, someone named 'Kudu,' at a southern Inquest base. More asura planning to blow up the world, I assume. If that snipped Zojja is involved...they just might manage it. Be strong, fight bravely, and I will contact you when I know more.

If sylvari:

Darkness Abounds

The world is cold, and quiet. The chill in my heart feels as though I stand at the heart of winter, even if I know it is not so. I feel truly for you. I hear that you have done well and struck a mighty blow against Zhaitan. I also hear that, along with the firstborn Trahearne, you have at last begun the true battle—the invasion of Orr.

Rumors of my companions abound. Rytlock and Logan travel north, toward the Citadel of Flame. Zojja chases after Snaff's legacy, never realizing that it is more than golems and crystals. She is in danger. I spoke to Eir at length and managed to convince her that we must go to aid our old friend—but my purpose no longer seems as clear. Not anymore. Why save the world, when everything in it is falling apart?

I hear of your victories, and I am reminded—perhaps there is still a reason for hope.
We will meet again, soon.

Talking to Historian Yowan[1]:

Historian Yowan: Welcome, <character name>. Things got ugly on Claw Island, didn'it? We lost a lot of good soldiers, a lot of good friends...but we sure gave Zhaitan a bloody nose, right?
Talk more option tango.png Right. What's going on here?
We're getting prepared to take the fight to Zhaitan. I'm looking forward to you taking charge: Trahearne has gathered a lot of important people to discuss our strategy.
Talk end option tango.png I'd better go find him, then. Thanks.
Talk end option tango.png That we did.

Talking to Tactician Art:

Tactician Art: Welcome to Concordia. You're free to move around, but stay alert: there's a lot more going on inside the walls, and a lot of danger outside.
Talk more option tango.png I have some questions for you.
I'm at your service.
Talk more option tango.png Any concerns about the Pact so far?
The Pact? None. Trahearne? Well, let's just say I've never followed a scholar into battle before. Some of us wonder if he's up to it.
Talk back option tango.png I understand. Can I ask you something else?
Talk end option tango.png Thanks for being honest, but you can trust Trahearne.
Talk more option tango.png You mentioned dangers outside the walls. Like what?
There's a tribe of grawl looking for something to worship. They don't usually start trouble, but it seems to follow them. And when trouble starts, they're quick to get involved.
Talk back option tango.png Can I ask you something else?
Talk end option tango.png Good to know. Thanks.
Talk more option tango.png Are the undead a problem here?
Yeah. They tend to come up from the south, and they come in serious numbers. So far their attacks are more like probes. Not very focused ones, either.
Talk back option tango.png Can I ask you something else?
Talk end option tango.png Thanks for the information.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks for your time.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks. I'll be careful.

Entering the camp:

(As a member of the Durmand Priory)
Wynnet Fairhaired: Glad to see you after that mess at Claw Island. Sieran was...unique. She will be missed.
(As a member of the Order of Whispers)
Doern Velazquez: Hello. Again, nice work at Claw Island. And as I said before, my condolences on Tybalt.
(As a member of the Vigil)
Warmaster Efut: Damn fine work at Claw Island, soldier. We'll drink to Forgal's memory someday soon.

Talking to the Order representatives:

(As a member of the Durmand Priory)
Wynnet Fairhaired: Losing Sieran is a terrible blow to the Priory, but we need to look forward. The dragons will not give us time to mourn. We must press on.
Talk end option tango.png I will, but the world is a lot more somber without her.
Wynnet Fairhaired: Always happy to see another survivor of Claw Island satill fighting the fight. With fortitude like that, we're sure to win out in the end.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks. I think so, too.
(As a member of the Order of Whispers)
Doern Velazquez: Tybalt will sorely be missed, but the Master of Whispers is impressed with your progress. We're all eager to see what you can accomplish here.
Talk end option tango.png That makes two of us. I intend to do Tybalt proud.
Doern Velazquez: I like seeing another survivor of Claw Island. The dragon already tried to kill us all. The more evidence that it failed, the better morale will be.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks.
(As a member of the Vigil)
Warmaster Efut: Again, sorry to hear about Fergal. For what it's worth, I think that's how he would wanted to die: fighting the dragon's minions with every ounce of strength he had.
Talk end option tango.png I agree. Thank you, sir.
Warmaster Efut: I salute you as a survivor of Claw Island. We took the best shots the dragon had and we're still standing. Now it's time to hit back.
Talk end option tango.png Agreed.

Talking to Crusader Afanen:

Crusader Afanen: I look forward to speaking with you later, but right now I'm on duty.
Talk end option tango.png Very well.

Talking to Trahearne:

Trahearne: I'm glad to see you. I need to convince the orders of Tyria that the path I've chosen is the right one. Your support could make the difference.
Talk quest option tango.png What do you need?
I've assembled all the key personnel and they're standing by. I'd like you to join us for the discussion: you have an important role to play in the Pact.
Talk quest option tango.png I'm ready. Let's go.
Talk end option tango.png I'm with you all the way.

Talking to Trahearne again on the way to back inside:

Trahearne: Taking charge of an army—or even a group of strong-minded individuals—is new to me. I hope I sound more confident than I feel.
Talk end option tango.png You'll do fine. Trust me.

The meeting with the order officials (cinematic):

Trahearne: Thank you all for coming. We're here because Claw Island proved the value of cooperation. Our Pact has already achieved remarkable results.
Trahearne: As the Pact's leader, I am adopting the rank of Marshal. I'd also like to present my second-in-command, one of the heroes of Claw Island, who will bear the rank of Commander.
Trahearne: To defeat Zhaitan and cleanse Orr, the Pact needs to go on the offensive. For that, we need a headquarters. I suggest the abandoned fortress on Terzetto Bay.
Warmaster Efut: I know the place: formidable, easily defensible, and right on Zhaitan's doorstep. A solid decision, Marshal Trahearne. The Vigil is with you.
Wynnet Fairhaired: It is a wise choice. The Priory will also follow you to the Pact's new headquarters, and on into Orr.
Doern Velazquez: No argument here, Marshal. It's a smart call. Count the Order of Whispers in as well.
Trahearne: Excellent. I'll begin preparing our new headquarters at the Terzetto site, which I have code-named Fort Trinity. I look forward to seeing you all there.

After the cinematic:

Trahearne: A moment please, Commander. I'd like to speak with you.

Talking to Trahearne:

Trahearne: I have the orders' pledge, but I don't believe I have their confidence. Please, talk to Doern, Efut, and Wynnet. Help me define their concerns about me and the Pact so I can assuage them.
Talk quest option tango.png I'll get started right away.
Talk end option tango.png I need a moment to collect my thoughts.

Speaking to the order officials:

(If a member of the Durmand Priory)
Wynnet Fairhaired: Hmm. I see the point and value of building a fort, but I worry about our long-term prospects.
Talk quest option tango.png Tell me what's on your mind. (continues like below)
Wynnet Fairhaired: A fortress, and right on Orr's doorstep as it were. A bold move. I just hope it's an effective one.
Talk quest option tango.png Do you have any serious concerns?
Trahearne has the knowledge we need, but will these soldiers and spies listen to him? It'll take charisma and a forceful personality to keep this Pact together.
Talk quest option tango.png I appreciate your candor.
Talk end option tango.png Excuse me for a moment.
(If a member of the Order of Whispers)
Doern Velazquez: I suppose a fort is the next logical step. I don't like giving the dragon such a visible target, but what choice do we really have?
Talk quest option tango.png None. Do you have any serious concerns about the plan? (Leads to same response as below)
Talk end option tango.png Trahearne can do it. I believe in him.
Doern Velazquez: A fort, eh? Makes some sense, I suppose. Though I'd rather we handled this campaign less...obviously.
Talk quest option tango.png Sounds like you have some concerns. I'd like to hear them.
Between you and me, alliances—especially this one—are fragile creatures. It was difficult to assemble, I fear it may be impossible to preserve.
Talk quest option tango.png I see. Thank you for your honesty.
Talk end option tango.png Excuse me for a moment.
(If a member of the Vigil)
Warmaster Efut: Establishing a fortress HQ is a smart move—smarter than I'd expect from a non-military man like Trahearne.
Warmaster Efut: Putting a fort this close to Orr is smart, and it creates opportunity. I just hope Trahearne can make the most of it.
Talk quest option tango.png If you have concerns, I'd like to hear them.
Simply put: one victory doesn't win a war. Before I commit soldiers to serve under Trahearne, I want to know he's capable of leading under fire.
Talk quest option tango.png A fair point. Thanks.
Talk end option tango.png Excuse me a moment, please.

Reporting back to Trahearne:

Trahearne: Have you spoken to the order officials? If they have doubts, those doubts could prove fatal to the Pact, and to Tyria.
Talk quest option tango.png They're all worried about your ability to lead this army into battle.
As I feared. I cannot blame them for being wary of an untested general. In time, Zhaitan will give me the chance to prove myself. I simply hope they don't lose faith in me before then.
Ferocity I could force them to stand by you until that happens.
Thank you, but this is a trial I must conquer myself. Somehow.
Talk quest option tango.png Very well. What's our next move?
Talk end option tango.png I understand. You can count on me.
Dignity Surely they see your knowledge of Orr makes you indispensable.
Yes, but indispensable does not necessarily mean inspiring. I need to show them that I will not wither under fire, that I have what it takes to win this war.
Talk quest option tango.png Agreed. What's our next move?
Talk end option tango.png I'll help however I can.
Charisma They'll see. You prove it each day, every day.
Kind of you to say so, but I fear more will be required to convince our allies. I just need the opportunity to show them I speak the language of war.
Talk quest option tango.png I'll be there to help. Now, what's our next move?
Now we speak to the smiths. I've gathered some of the finest armorers and weaponsmiths in Tyria. They can give Pact soldiers the edge they need in Orr.
Talk quest option tango.png Who have you invited?
Beigarth of the norn, Occam of the sylvari—both masters of their craft. I've also brought in the tengu Izu Steelshrike. I have something special in mind for them.
Talk quest option tango.png Sounds good. Let's go.
Talk end option tango.png Good to hear.
Talk end option tango.png Excuse me for a moment, Marshal.
Talk end option tango.png Excuse me for a moment, Marshal.
Talk end option tango.png Not yet, Marshal.

Talking to the smiths:

(For norn that chose A Weapon of Legend)
Beigarth: Good to see you again, Slayer. We've both come a long way from retrieving bits of Deldrimor steel from grawl caves, eh? Looking forward to working with you again.
Talk end option tango.png Same here, Beigarth.
(For norn that choose another storyline)
Beigarth: I hear this Pact of yours is looking for talented smiths. Well, I'm here now. Tell your bosses their search is over.
Talk end option tango.png We want all the best smiths, not just THE best.
(For other races)
Beigarth: Hey, you! Is this where the smiths are supposed to meet? I got an invite from some high muckety-muck sylvari, and I hate to be late to a party.
Talk end option tango.png Welcome. Trahearne will be with you shortly.
(Talking again)
Beigarth: Nothing like forging weapons you know will be used. I can't wait to show that jittery little sylvari and that snooty bird-man how it's done.
Talk end option tango.png It's not a contest, but knock 'em dead anyway.
(For sylvari that choose the The Green Huntsman storyline)
Occam: Hello again, Valiant. I don't like all this activity, but I'm proud to be invited. After that business with Bercilak, I could stand to see my creations used for good.
Talk more option tango.png Welcome, Occam. I trust you have been well? (If you have chosen Hammer and Steel)
I have. The Nightmare Court has left me alone since that dreadful Bercilak affair. I expect Caithe has had a hand in that.
Talk end option tango.png You deserve some peace and quiet. I'll talk to you later.
Talk more option tango.png How did you get away from the Nightmare Court? (If you have chosen Weakness of the Heart)
I have Caithe to thank for that. I realize she may have had an ulterior motive, but as the end result was my freedom, I don't mind.
Talk end option tango.png Glad to hear it. The pact has work for you.
Talk end option tango.png Glad to have you with us, Occam.
(For sylvari that choose another storyline)
Occam: Are you <character name>? I've heard of your exploits. It's a pleasure to meet you. With all these…strangers around, I'm happy to see a familiar face.
Talk end option tango.png Welcome. Trahearne will be with you shortly.
(For other races)
Occam: I've heard you occupy a position of some prominence here. Do you know what Trahearne wants with me?
Talk end option tango.png I'll let Trahearne tell you himself. It won't be long.
(Talking again)
Occam: I'm grateful for this opportunity to stand with the firstborn. I'll do my best. I hope it's good enough.
Talk end option tango.png Your best will be considerable. And it's all anyone can ask.
Izu Steelshrike: This is all very strange to me. I've heard of you and Trahearne, and I support your aims, but it's challenging. I'm not much of a joiner.
Talk more option tango.png Mind if I ask a few questions?
By all means. Ask, and I shall not mislead you.
Talk more option tango.png Who are you?
I am Izu Steelshrike of the tengu. I has taken my craft as far as I could at home, so I begin traveling to study other smiths' techniques in order to perfect my own.
Talk back option tango.png I have another question.
Talk end option tango.png Thank you. That's all I needed to know.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me more about the tengu.
We hail from Cantha originally. When we came here, we brought our customs and society with us. This is more diverse than I expected it to be.
Talk more option tango.png Are your people joining the Pact?
No. There may be individuals here and there who might join, but as a whole my people prefer to keep to themselves.
Talk back option tango.png I have another question.
Talk end option tango.png Fascinating. Thank you for sharing that.
Talk back option tango.png I have another question.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks for the information.
Talk more option tango.png Do you know Trahearne?
Years ago, we swore a friendship after battling undead monstrosities together. When he invited me here, I remembered that bond. I shall craft the finest weapons Trahearne has ever seen.
Talk back option tango.png I have another question.
Talk end option tango.png That's all I needed to know.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks, but it'll have to wait until later.
Talk end option tango.png I think you'll find this is a cause worth joining.

Before the speech to the smiths:

Trahearne: Let's hope the smiths rise to my challenge out of innate nobility...or at least pride.

Speaking to the smiths (cinematic):

Trahearne: Thank you for coming. I'm Marshal Trahearne, and I've invited each of you here because you are the finest smiths and crafters in all of Tyria.
Trahearne: I'm forging a Pact to deal with the Elder Dragons. The three major orders of Tyria have agreed to join, but we also need you and your skills.
Occam: It would be an honor to stand with you, Firstborn.
Izu Steelshrike: Your envoy already approached me with a similar offer, Marshal. I've decided to accept. Otherwise, I wouldn't be here.
Beigarth: Ha! There is only one "finest" smith in Tyria, and you're looking at him. I stand ready to prove it.
Trahearne: Excellent. I have a list of potential projects. My quartermasters will make sure you have the tools and raw materials you need. Please begin at once.

After the speech to the smiths (in-game cut scene):

Messenger Nelson: Help! Somebody, help me! The team studying Rankor Ruins was overwhelmed by the undead!

Speaking with Trahearne before talking to the messenger:

Trahearne: Quickly now. I'm eager to hear what this messenger has to tell us.
Talk end option tango.png Same here.

Speaking to the messenger:

Messenger Nelson: The Risen...undead...scores of them. The team...the research team is trapped. Help them!
Talk quest option tango.png What research team? Where?
South—in Rankor Ruins. Undead overwhelmed the dig many. The team sent me to get help. They found something important. We can't let Zhaitan claim it!
Talk quest option tango.png Rankor Ruins? I'm on my way.
Trahearne: And I shall meet you there. My experiences in Orr will be an asset—and this is my chance to allay some of the fears and concerns you've discovered.
Talk end option tango.png Excellent. I'll meet you at Rankor Ruins.
Talk end option tango.png Hang in there, soldier. We'll handle this.
Talk end option tango.png Rest now. We'll be back in a moment.

Upon attempting to speak with the messenger:

Priory Arcanist: He's out cold, but he'll be fine. I'm more worried about that research team he mentioned.
Talk end option tango.png Leave them to us.

Talking to your other allies:

Trahearne: This is it, Commander: my chance to prove I can do this. I'll meet you outside Rankor Ruins.
Talk end option tango.png See you there.
Priory Arcanist: Leave the injured messenger to me, Commander. Those missing researchers need your help.
Talk end option tango.png I'm on my way.
Wynnet Fairhaired: I know a little about what those researchers were looking for. We need them and their find returned safely.
Talk end option tango.png Trahearne and I are handling it.
Doern Velazquez: We can't lose whatever that team uncovered. Do us all a favor and get them—and it—out safely.
Talk end option tango.png Will do.
Warmaster Efut: I'll keep an eye on things here, but rest assured: you will have Vigil backup on this mission.
Talk end option tango.png Thank you.
Historian Yowan: Did I hear that right? The Rankor Ruins team is missing? I knew most of the researchers on that team, and their objective. You have to save them and recover their find!
Talk end option tango.png Rest easy. Trahearne and I will handle it.

Talking to Tactician Art:

Tactician Art: I heard the commotion, Commander. What's the situation?
Talk quest option tango.png We're going to rescue the research teams in Rankor Ruins.
I hope you're bringing an entire platoon—or even a battalion. At least let me come along and protect you and Trahearne.
Charisma You're needed here. Morale would crumble without you.
Now you're just being silly. All right, I'll stay here and keep an eye on things. Just don't get yourself or Trahearne killed, okay?
Talk quest option tango.png I promise. See you soon.
Dignity Someone has to stay here and defend the fort.
Good point. All these crafters and VIPs need protection. We'll cover things up here and leave the rescue mission to you.
Talk quest option tango.png Thanks. Trahearne and I are assembling a squad right now.
Ferocity Just stick to your job, soldier, and let me do mine.
Well, at least you're starting to sound like an officer. You win, Commander. We'll hold down the fort while you rescue the missing researchers.
Talk quest option tango.png Carry on.
Talk quest option tango.png Not necessary. Just lock the door behind us. We'll be back soon
Will do.
Talk quest option tango.png Thanks.
Talk end option tango.png I need a moment to think about this.
Talk end option tango.png Can't talk now.

Talking to Researcher Raekk on the way to the ruins:

Researcher Raekk: Oh, my ears—what happened? The last thing I remember is my golems and I being attacked, and then there was an explosion...
Talk more option tango.png You're very lucky. The undead are here in force.
But the survey teams...the dig! They're going to need your help.
Talk end option tango.png We're on it. Get back to Concordia, where it's safe.
Talk end option tango.png We know. Find a safe place and keep your head down.

At the Rankor Ruins[edit]

Meeting Trahearne at Rankor Ruins (cinematic):

Trahearne: I'm glad to see you, Something is definitely unnatural here. That miasma settled in shortly after we arrived.
Trahearne: Fortunately, our allies sent help: Agent Zrii from the Orders of Whispers, and Crusader Afanen from the Vigil.
Crusader Afanen: At your service. Killing Orrians is my purpose in life, but in the spirit of our newly formed union, this feels extra noble.
Agent Zrii: A pleasure to meet you, Commander. Take a good look: once I get started, you won't see me coming or going.
<Character name>: Noted. Our objective is to locate a missing Priory team. Trahearne, this is your mission. How do you want us to handle it?
Trahearne: By playing to our respective strengths. Zrii goes in to conduct stealth reconnaissance while the rest of us takes the main path through the ruins.
Trahearne: We'll draw the attention of any Orrians and thin out their numbers as we proceed. Let's all rendezvous at the far end of the site,

After the cinematic:

Agent Zrii: I'm going stealthy. I'll report back as soon as I know anything.

Talking to your allies:

Crusader Afanen: You can count on my sword, Commander. I'd follow Firstborn...sorry, Marshal Trahearne into Orr itself.
Talk end option tango.png You may get that chance before we're done.
Trahearne: This is more than a simple rescue mission. We need the artifact these teams were after, and we need to prove that we can lead the Pact.
Talk end option tango.png I understand.

Searching in the first camp:

Crusader Afanen: No survivors here, but we'll keep looking.

Talking to Trahearne:

Trahearne: I know this looks bad, but don't lose heart. This camp isn't big enough for all the missing researchers—there has to be another. We must press on.
Talk end option tango.png Agreed. Let's keep looking.

Searching in the second camp and finding the survivors:

Crusader Afanen: Those barricades won't hold for long. We have to move!
Trahearne: Another barricade. That means we're headed in the right direction. Forward!
Krewe Researcher Inja: Hello? Look, over here! Help!
Trahearne: We can't break through and protect our people—too dangerous. We have to find another way.

While fighting the undead:

Krewe Researcher Inja: Trouble incoming!
Krewe Leader Dobbs: We've got a big problem—more undead on the way!
Krewe Apprentice Pekk: We're going to make it, we're going to make it, we're seriously going to make it.

Talking to your allies while fending off the undead:

Trahearne: Let them come. Dobbs described the undead in terms of waves, as in a tide. Very well. We shall be the rocks upon which those waves break.
Talk end option tango.png I'm with you, Marshal.
Krewe Leader Dobbs: Thinking caps and butt-kicking boots on, everyone. We have undead inbound!
Talk end option tango.png I'm ready.
Krewe Researcher Inja: More undead on the way!
Talk end option tango.png I'm on it.
Krewe Apprentice Pekk: The undead are coming back, believe you me. You guys showed up just in time to be overwhelmed with us.
Talk end option tango.png Not if I can help it. And I can.

After helping the first group of survivors (cinematic):

Krewe Leader Dobbs: Are we glad to see you! Never seen a flood of Orrians like that, and I've been doing this for years.
Crusader Afanen: You're safe now. Stick close to us and we'll get you out of here intact.
Krewe Leader Dobbs: What about our second team? They went ahead to secure a recent discovery right before the undead tide came in. They might still be alive.
Agent Zrii: I can confirm that. There are tracks leading into the caves. It's a defensible position, so the second team could be dug in there.
Trahearne: Then we're not leaving until we're sure, one way or the other. Spread out and protect the researchers. We're going on.

Searching for the second team:

Agent Zrii: Head in that direction.
Krewe Researcher Inja: I hope we find the second team soon. I've known some of those scholars since I joined the Priory.
Agent Zrii: Found the entrance to the caverns. It's barricaded shut.
Agent Zrii: I've got this. Stand back.
Agent Zrii: Boom! That ought to do it.
Krewe Leader Dobbs: We can't afford to lose the second team, or the artifact they were hunting.

Talking to your allies while searching:

Trahearne: The second team can't be far. We must keep moving.
Talk end option tango.png Understood.
Krewe Leader Dobbs: I hope we're not too late. I've never returned from a dig without at least 65 percent of the people I set out with. I'd hate to see those numbers go down.
Talk end option tango.png We'll do our best.
Krewe Researcher Inja: After all this trouble, losing the find would be catastrophic. Obviously, losing the second research team would be bad, too.
Talk end option tango.png We're going to recover everything and everyone.
Krewe Apprentice Pekk: I hate to sound pessimistic, but we're probably too late and they're all dead.
Talk end option tango.png I'll need to see that for myself before I give up.

Inside the caverns:

Kekt: Hey, over here! Help!
Kekt: Whew! Your timing is impeccable.

Talking to your allies:

Trahearne: Please check on Kekt. He's integral to the longer-term success of this mission.
Talk end option tango.png Will do.
Krewe Apprentice Pekk: Well, at least Kekt is all right. That's something. At least this mission isn't a total washout.
Talk end option tango.png We're not done yet.
Krewe Leader Dobbs: I've never seen so many undead...or so big...or so hostile. In my learned experience, I think this qualifies as a "Yikes!" moment.
Talk end option tango.png Don't give up. We can handle this.
Krewe Researcher Inja: I don't like sitting around while our colleagues are in danger.
Talk end option tango.png We've got to be careful or the next team will have to save us.
Explorer Hekja: If you want detailed information, talk to Kekt. My specialities are rocks, geothermics, and crushing the undead.
Talk end option tango.png I'll find Kekt, then.
Scholar Inkblood: Ah, Amphebe. Poor old girl is miserable in this climate. Talk to Kekt if you need anything, I've got a drake to look after.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks. I'll talk to Kekt.
Kekt: Thank the Alchemy you're here. And not a moment too soon.
Talk quest option tango.png We really need to get out of here right now.
Of course! There's a way out to the south. I theorize it will have fewer Risen compared to the direction you just came from.
Talk quest option tango.png Sounds perfect. Follow me.
Talk more option tango.png What happened to your team?
We made a significant find, but as we were collecting it, the undead stormed in and trapped us here. It was all we could do to stay alive.
Talk quest option tango.png That clinches it. We need to get you out of here. (Same as above)
Talk back option tango.png I have another question.
Talk end option tango.png Give me a moment to collect my thoughts.
Talk more option tango.png What were you looking for?
An ancient dwarven tome from more than 250 years ago. It has information from the last time the dragons rose. It could conceivably hold the key to defeating them today.
Talk quest option tango.png Then it's even more urgent that we get you and the tome out. (Same as above)
Talk back option tango.png I have another question.
Talk end option tango.png Excuse me, I'll be right back.
Talk end option tango.png I'll be right back.

After speaking to Kekt:

Trahearne: Stand by to withdraw. Commander, you lead the way.
Trahearne: Keep together and stay on your guard.

Talking to your allies after speaking with Kekt:

Trahearne: I believe I can get us out of here. All I need is your protection while I summon help.
Talk end option tango.png Consider it done.
Explorer Hekja: I'm watching your back, but keep your eyes open: your front needs protection, too.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks.
Scholar Inkblood: With Amphebe and I at your side, you've never been safer.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks.
Kekt: Don't worry about me. I won't stray far from the experienced personnel who are here to protect me. Was there something you needed?
Talk more option tango.png What happened to your team? (Same as above)
Talk more option tango.png What were you looking for? (Same as above)
Talk end option tango.png I'll be right back.
Krewe Apprentice Pekk: Don't wait for me. I can take care of myself.
Talk end option tango.png Stick close. We're all getting out of here together.
Krewe Leader Dobbs: The sooner we get back to my bunk, the happier I'll be. All my stuff is there—my notes, my research materials, my silver ear-scratcher...
Talk end option tango.png Don't get ahead of yourself. First, we need to escape.
Krewe Researcher Inja: This is my last expedition with Dobbs. Sooner or later I'm going to be on the wrong side of his "safely returned" ratio.
Talk end option tango.png Let's survive this outing before we make any decisions.

Approaching the bone wall:

Trahearne: Where did that come from? This was supposed to be our way out.
Agent Zrii: The Orrians funneled us here. They've shown disturbingly advanced tactics ever since we arrived.
Trahearne: Commander, to me. I need your opinion.

Talking to your allies:

Explorer Hekja: So what's it going to be? Smash the wall, or magic our way through?
Talk end option tango.png Leave it to me and Trahearne.
Krewe Apprentice Pekk: Endless waves of undead, walls popping up to block our egress. I knew we were doomed!
Talk end option tango.png Pipe down. Trahearne and I are planning our next move.
Krewe Leader Dobbs: Well, this is just perfect. We wear ourselves out in a running fight that leads to a dead end? Unacceptable!
Talk end option tango.png Calm down. Trahearne and I will handle this.
Krewe Researcher Inja: I knew it. I'm going to die here and Dobbs is going to write it up as "acceptable losses."
Talk end option tango.png Settle down. Trahearne and I will think of something.
Scholar Inkblood: We don't have time to breach that wall, do we? Even Amphebe's breath after a bushel of garlic couldn't melt through that barrier.
Talk end option tango.png It's okay. Trahearne and I are handling it.

Talking to Trahearne (cinematic):

Agent Zrii: Another dead end. Militarily, I'd say we're being funneled into a trap.
Crusader Afanen: I've seen the Orrians swarm and I've seen them lurk, but I've never seen them set traps. Are they capable of tactical thinking?
Trahearne: Oh, yes. I've seen them do exquisitely horrible things. If the Priory team found the artifact I suspect they found, it all makes sense.
Krewe Leader Dobbs: They were looking for a dwarven tome. Why would Zhaitan care so much about an ancient book of lore?
Trahearne: I believe it contains information about the last time the dragons rose. Its very existence proves they can be beaten back. Our enemy wants to keep that information from us.
Agent Zrii: How does the dragon even know about it? Zhaitan doesn't strike me as as much of a reader.
Trahearne: Zhaitan knows everything its minions know. One of its corrupted servants, while alive or after death, must have seen the tome.
Trahearne: Commander, to me. I believe I can get us out of this situation, but I'll need you to protect me while I do it.

After the Bone Wall cinematic:

Trahearne: We're trapped. But I can summon the reinforcements we need to fight our way out.
Trahearne: This will require no small effort, but hopefully my minions will aid in our escape.
Trahearne: Buy me some time to prepare.

Talking to your allies:

Explorer Hekja: Trahearne's magic is powerful, but when you're ready for some good old-fashioned steel and muscle, let me know.
Talk end option tango.png Stand by. We'll need that soon enough.
Krewe Apprentice Pekk: Trahearne isn't the fey academic I expected. We might actually survive this.
Talk end option tango.png We will, as long as we work together.
Krewe Leader Dobbs: I knew Trahearne was a gifted necromancer, but he's showing me power I didn't expect.
Talk end option tango.png Let's hope the enemy is just as surprised.
Krewe Researcher Inja: That sylvari's got some real power, doesn't he? I'm done with Dobbs, but Trahearne? Him, I'd follow.
Talk end option tango.png I'll be sure to tell him that.
Scholar Inkblood: This Trahearne's got some real power, doesn't he? Can't wait to see him go all-out.
Talk end option tango.png That makes all of us.
Trahearne: My summoned agents are powerful, but taxing to control. The sooner we're clear of this killing ground, the better.
Talk end option tango.png Let's keep moving, then.
Agent Zrii: I've got my orders, Commander, and I know how to carry them out. See you on the other side—though you WON'T see me.
Talk end option tango.png As it should be. Good luck.

Upon exiting the cave (in-game cut scene):

Dzhudin Stormbreak: Ha! Welcome sylvari. Lured you here, trapped you here. Now you die here.
Dzhudin Stormbreak: The elements bow before me and I bow before Zhaitan. He wills your death. He shall have it.
Trahearne: I was born to undo your master's work. If I must kill you to achieve that, so be it.

Talking to Pekk before the NPCs rush forwards to fight Dzhudin Stormbreak:

Krewe Apprentice Pekk: If that thing's all that stands between us and safety, color me belligerent!
Talk end option tango.png Go get him!

During the fight with Dzhudin Stormbreak:

Dzhudin Stormbreak: The dragon commands, and we answer. All will serve Zhaitan!
Dzhudin Stormbreak: You cannot win. Surrender and accept Zhaitan! (75% health)
Dzhudin Stormbreak: Enough! You will die, then rise, and I will see you destroy your own allies! (50% health)
Dzhudin Stormbreak: I am of the dragon. I command the elements. I will not fall! (25% health)

After defeating Dzhudin Stormbreak (cinematic):

Scholar Inkblood: Well done, Marshal Trahearne. That Orrian ugly looked nigh unstoppable, but you did it.
Trahearne: The Pact did it. Our combined efforts made this happen. Just as we'll defeat Zhaitan together.
Trahearne: Hopefully, our chances of doing just that have been improved with the information contained inside the dwarven tome.
Kekt: We can help you there. I'm fluent in ancient dwarf. Get us out of here and I'll work on that tome until it's completely translated.
Trahearne: Done. Zrii, please escort the research teams back to Concordia. Commander you're with me.

After the cinematic:

Trahearne: Victory. The first of many, with allies like you beside me.

Talking to Trahearne:

Trahearne: Well done, Commander, but this is the first step in a long, perilous journey. From here on, things will get more difficult.
Talk quest option tango.png I'm ready to face whatever Zhaitan has in store for us.

Talking to your allies:

Trahearne: I hope this helps convince the doubters that the Pact is a good idea, and that I'm the one to lead it. Thank you for standing by me. I'll return to Concordia now with Afanen.
Talk end option tango.png See you there, Marshal.
Kekt: As soon as we get back to base, I'm going to translate the stuffing out of this time. Trahearne won't regret rescuing me, no sir!
Talk end option tango.png Work fast, Kekt. We need that info.
Crusader Afanen: We'll take things from here, Commander. I'll make sure Trahearne gets back to Concordia safely.
Talk end option tango.png Glad to hear it. Thanks.

Back at Concordia[edit]

Talking to your rescued allies:

Agent Zrii: If I was in the habit of saluting, you and Marshal Trahearne would both be getting one right now for a job well done.
Talk end option tango.png On behalf of the Marshal and I, thanks.
Explorer Hekja: Thanks for bailing us out of there. I won't forget what you did for us today.
Talk end option tango.png You'll get your chance to repay me. The war's far from over.
Krewe Apprentice Pekk: Never thought we'd make it, but here we are. I may have to rethink my whole "dour pragmatism" approach to life.
Talk end option tango.png Good. As long as we keep fighting, there's hope.
Krewe Leader Dobbs: Thanks for all you've done. My 65-percent mortality rate is safely intact. In fact, I think I've bumped it up a few percentage points.
Talk end option tango.png Congratulations.
Krewe Researcher Inja: I made it. Another Dobbs-led mission complete, and I'm still breathing. It's going to take a lot of convincing to get me on another one of his expeditions.
Talk end option tango.png Don't worry, the Pact has plenty of work for everyone.
Scholar Inkblood: On behalf of both of us, thanks. If Amphebe ever has any children, I'll name the toughest after you.
Talk end option tango.png That's quite an honor. Thanks.

Other allies at Concordia:

Doern Velazquez: Congratulations, Commander. Despite my misgivings, I'd say this Pact is off to a promising start with you and Trahearne at the helm.
Talk end option tango.png Thank you.
Warmaster Efut: Nicely done, Commander. High enemy casualties, relatively minor losses on our side, and we recovered both the team and research. You and Trahearne are off to a promising start.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks.
Wynnet Fairheaded: Exceptional work, Commander. In addition to the lives of the research team, you and Trahearne saved a source of knowledge that could turn the tide of this war.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks.
Beigarth: With you two in charge, I think this Pact of ours is going to be just fine. Now step back, I got me some serious forging to do.
Talk end option tango.png I'll let you get to it, then.
Izu Steelshrike: I heard about your mission into Rankor Ruins. I'd say the Pact's leadership definitely proved its worth. I look forward to demonstrating mine.
Talk more option tango.png Mind if I ask you a few questions? (leads to same set of three questions as above)
Talk end option tango.png If we all do our part, we cannot fail.
Occam: Congratulations. Any victory against Zhaitan's horde is something to be celebrated. I hope to make my own contribution soon.
Talk end option tango.png I look forward to that.
Historian Yowan: Congratulations on saving the research team and their find. Knowledge is still the best weapon we have against Zhaitan. The more we have, the better.
Talk end option tango.png Spoken like a true Priory Historian.
Priory Arcanist: Just wanted to let you know: the messenger is recovering nicely. He'll be glad to head that you saved the rest of the research team.
Talk end option tango.png Glad to hear that. Thanks.
Upon trying to talk with Messenger Nelson:
Priory Arcanist: He's still recovering. I'll be sure to tell him that his bravery allowed you and Trahearne to save his comrades.
Talk end option tango.png Thank you.
Tactician Art: I hear the researchers you rescued found something Marshal Trahearne can use. Nice work.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks.

  • When the personal story was restored to its original form in the June 23, 2015 update, this mission underwent dialogue alteration for clarity and brevity. The above dialogue is accurate to the current version of the game, the below shows original dialogue that was cut or replaced.
The Pact Commander's head armor is not hidden during the cutscene immediately before Trahearne summons his necromancer minions.
  1. ^ Approaching the camp:
Historian Yowan: Are you Trahearne's new right hand? He said you'd be coming. He's up the watchtower.

My story[edit]

Forging the Pact.jpg

At Trahearne's request, I joined him in Concordia to discuss preparing the Pact's campaign into Orr to confront Zhaitan.

I met with Trahearne and some high-ranking members of the orders of Tyria. We confirmed Trahearne as the leader of the Pact, with the rank of marshal. We also agreed that I would be Trahearne's second in command with the rank of commander. We put the finest smiths in Tyria to work making weapons and armor for the Pact, and Trahearne led a rescue mission that not only saved the lives of stranded Pact soldiers, but also netted us a valuable dwarven tome of ancient knowledge. The Pact's campaign plans are broad and complicated, so Trahearne asked me to make sure a key element of that campaign is ready for the rigors of war.
