Walkthrough[edit]

Talk to Apatia and head to the marker beneath the tower. Kill all of the Krait in the water inside the objective circle, in order to talk to the prisoner. The Krait do respawn after some time. Talk to the prisoner, and find out you need to kill the Krait Slavemaster (veteran) who then spawns and circles the lake slowly with his two shark body guards. Make sure there are no random Krait around when and where you engage. Then free the prisoner at the bottom of the tower.

Proceed up the tower ramps, following the markers and killing the Krait and Krait Turrets (which pull you towards them) as you go. Once you reach the three cages, a number of Krait guards appear and you must kill quite a few of them before the objective updates. Free all four prisoners and then head up a nearby beam to Warden Hywel. Kill the Krait Priestess guarding him and then talk to Hywel. Talking to Apatia and choosing an order to get help from (this choice does not affect which missions you will undertake later) ends the mission.

Dialogue[edit]

Upon entering the shore of Nonmoa Lake:

Crusader Apatia: Commander! Over Here.

Approaching Apatia (cinematic):

Crusader Apatia: Good to see you again, Commander. After Claw Island, I've been looking forward to working with you again.
Crusader Apatia: On to business: our main problem in this region is krait. We're losing too many potential recruits to their slave pens.
Crusader Apatia: Our mission is to rescue as many slaves as possible, though a Sylvari prisoner named Hywel is top priority. He's a warden of exceptional skill.
<Character name>: Understood, Crusader. Each prisoner we free is an innocent, and a potential soldier against Zhaitan.
Crusader Apatia: Exactly. They're going to waste, rotting in a krait cell. And Commander, I'd be honored if you'd call me "Apatia."

After the cinematic:

Crusader Apatia: Krait usually keep their slaves down deep. We should start low and move up.

Talking to Apatia:

Crusader Apatia: I've heard the krait keep prisoners in cages all throughout the tower. I think we should start at the bottom and work our way up.
Talk end option tango.png That's a solid strategy. Let's go.

Upon getting close to the lower slave pens:

Krait Slave Guard: We have visitors. Don't bother with capture. Just kill them!
Cassius Prideclaw: Hey! Over here!

Talking to Apatia:

Crusader Apatia: Did you hear that one slave? Even being caged hasn't diminished his fighting spirit.
Talk end option tango.png Let's see if he's got any useful information for us.

Talking to other slaves:

Krait Slave: My legend can't end here. It can't.
Krait Slave (2): Help me. I don't want the next generation of sylvari to feel what I've felt.
Krait Slave (3): If I die, will I Dream again?
Krait Slave (4): Let me out and fight me! A dirty cage is no way to die.
Krait Slave (5): Dwayna, hear my prayer: let me see my family one last time.
Krait Slave (6): Oh, gods. They're going to eat us... They're going to eat us all.
Krait Slave (7): Let me out, serpents, or my warband will boil you alive!
Krait Slave (8): Give me solid ground and a sharp blade. I'll show these slavers a thing or two.
Krait Slave (9): Everyone knows what happens to krait slaves. We're doomed!
Krait Slave (10): It's hopeless. We're never getting out of here.

Talking to Cassius:

Cassius Prideclaw: I ain't dead yet—get me out of here! These snaky devils have been torturing us, and now they're talking about eating us. Let me out so I can fight!
Talk quest option tango.png Where's the key?
Slavemaster's got 'em. He hangs on to 'em tight, too. The previous one got careless, got skinned and gutted by a prisoner. Heh.
Talk quest option tango.png This one's headed for the same fate. I'll be back soon.
Talk more option tango.png Where do I find the slavemaster?
Shouldn't be hard. Just look for the biggest, ugliest krait you can find. He's got a pair of sharks thet patrol with him.
Talk quest option tango.png That's all I needed to know. See you soon.
Talk more option tango.png This place seems like it's on high alert. What's going on? (same as below)
Talk more option tango.png This place seems pretty busy for just another slave tower.
Something big. They're all talking about a magical orb they found and how best to use it. Can't make sense of it, but they're all stirred up.
Talk quest option tango.png All right. I'll be back shortly with the slavemaster's key.
Talk more option tango.png How do I find the slavemaster? (same as above)
Talk end option tango.png My first order of business is to find the slavemaster.
Talk end option tango.png Sounds like justice. Hang on, I'll be right back.
Talk end option tango.png Not right now, but I swear I won't leave without you.

Talking to Apatia:

Crusader Apatia: The slavemaster has the keys, so the slavemaster has to die. If that slave is right, this will be the second slavemaster they've had to replace recently.
Talk end option tango.png Maybe that will encourage them to find another line of work.

After killing the slavemaster:

Crusader Apatia: I have the keys! Release that charr and we'll put him to work.

Talking to Apatia:

Crusader Apatia: One of these keys should do the trick. Let's check in with that feisty prisoner.
Talk end option tango.png Good idea.

Talking to Cassius:

Cassius Prideclaw: Good. You made it back. Did you get the keys? And more importantly, did you slit that slavemaster's throat?
Talk quest option tango.png I have the keys. Let's get you out of there.
Perfect. And I'll return the favor by getting everyone else out of these cells. Down here, that is: the krait keep more prisoners higher up in the tower.
Talk quest option tango.png You release everyone down here. I'll keep climbing.
Talk more option tango.png Who do they keep in the upper cells?
Not sure, but I think they put important or dangerous prisoners up there to keep an eye on 'em. To be honest, I'm mad I didn't qualify.
Talk quest option tango.png That's probably where we'll find Hywel. Thanks, Cassius.
Talk end option tango.png Hang on. I'll be right back.
Talk more option tango.png Haven't seen the slavemaster. How do I find him? (only if before killing the krait slavemaster, same answer as above)
Talk more option tango.png It's like this place is on high alert. What's happening? (same as above)
Talk end option tango.png Give me a second.

After freeing the charr:

Crusader Apatia: We should look higher, in the tower. There'll be more prisoners there.

Talking to Cassius after he is freed:

Cassius Prideclaw: Leave this to me. I'll release the others—and if I get lucky, I might even get to kill a few krait, too.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks.

As Cassius frees the other slaves:

Cassius Prideclaw: Don't you value your freedom? Get moving!
Cassius Prideclaw: Stop gaping like a goggle-eyed quaggan. Swim for your life!
Cassius Prideclaw: You're free. Go on, get going. Now!
Cassius Prideclaw: Quickly now, before those snake-tailed scum come back.
Cassius Prideclaw: What are you waiting for? Go!

Talking to Apatia:

Crusader Apatia: I figure the krait are keeping the more dangerous and valuable prisoner closer to the top. I bet that's where we'll find Warden Hywel.
Talk end option tango.png Then up we go.

On the way to the upper patforms of the tower:

Crusader Apatia: This looks promising. This way!
Crusader Apatia: These planks are so thin and flimsy. Watch your step.
Crusader Apatia: I guess these ramps are easier if you slither.
Crusader Apatia: Whoa! No, it's all right. I almost slipped.
Crusader Apatia: Slavers make me sick. I swear, I'm going to tan an entire suit of krait-skin armor.
Crusader Apatia: We're getting close.
Crusader Apatia: Almost there.
Crusader Apatia: There are warriors...and more guards. Come on, Commander, I'll watch your back.

Talking to Apatia while fighting the guards:

Crusader Apatia: More guards. Clear 'em out.
Talk end option tango.png On it.

Talking to Apatia:

Crusader Apatia: I don't see Hywel yet, but this doesn't have to be a wasted trip. Let's release the other prisoners.
Talk end option tango.png Sounds good.

Interacting with the Krait Prison Cells:

Krait Prison Cell: The cage is locked tight, and the prisoner inside stares out warily.
Talk quest option tango.png Release the prisoner.
Talk end option tango.png I'll be back soon. I promise.

Talking with the freed prisoners:

Priory Scholar: Thanks. Don't worry about us. I'll keep an eye on things here for you.
Talk end option tango.png Shout if you need me.
Whispers Agent: My bosses like us stay out of sight, but this is one time I'm glad to be discovered. Thanks.
Talk end option tango.png Happy to be of service.
Vigil Crusader: I don't know what you have in store for these krait slavers, but they deserve worse. Show them no mercy.
Talk end option tango.png Count on that.
Lionguard: Am I glad to see you. Is that Apatia? We were in the Lionguard together.
Talk end option tango.png It is. She joined the Pact to fight the Elder Dragons.

Talking to Hywel (before all other prisoners are free):

Warden Hywel: Who's there? Do I know you? Please, you have to get us all out of here.
Talk end option tango.png We're from the Pact, Warden Hywel. Stand by.

After freeing all other prisoners:

Crusader Apatia: I think Warden Hywel is up here.
Crusader Apatia: There he is.

Talking to Apatia:

Crusader Apatia: There's Warden Hywel. All we need to do is get him out of here, and we're done.
Talk end option tango.png Right.

Talking to Hywel:

Warden Hywel: Thank the Mother Tree—and thank you. The Pact, you say? Please, you have to free us.
Talk quest option tango.png We'll have you out of here in no time, Warden.

After freeing Warden Hywel (cinematic):

Crusader Apatia: Warden Hywel, we've come to get you out of here. Are there any other prisoners we should find?
Warden Hywel: I don't think so. There was a largos, but she escaped on her own. Strange and terrifying creature, that one.
Warden Hywel: Apparently, she got herself captured to get close to the slavemaster because he was "worthy prey." Then she let herself out and went after him.
Warden Hywel: Another thing: the krait kept talking about a magical orb they use to keep Zhaitan's corruption out. I never saw a single undead creature here. I think their orb could be real.
Crusader Apatia: That may be. There's no corruption in these waters, even though the Orrians definitely have a presence here.
<Character name>: This orb is definitely worth investigating. For now, though, let's concentrate on getting you and the others to safety.

Talking to Apatia after freeing Hywel:

Crusader Apatia: We've freed a lot of prisoners, rescued Hywel, and killed most of the krait slavers here. Are we done?
Talk quest option tango.png Not quite. We need to know more about that orb.
I agree. If Hywel is right, and it can prevent Zhaitan from raising the dead, that orb could make all the difference in this war.
Talk quest option tango.png We should start with the largos Hywel mentioned.
Right. He said she mentioned hunting in the waters south of here. But how do we go about finding someone who's dedicated to not being found and expert at not being seen?
Talk more option tango.png The Vigil has soldiers all over. Maybe they've seen something.
Good idea. A request from the Commander of the Pact should be enough to convince my fellow crusaders to share information. I'll see what I can learn.
Ferocity Good. That largos is about to learn what it's like to be tracked down.
I'll find out what I can and meet you south of here. Hywel said that's where the largos went to find new prey, so that's where we'll start.
Talk quest option tango.png See you there.
Dignity Excellent. If we find the largos, we can convince her.

Talk quest option tango.png See you there.
Charisma With your help, I figure we can do just about anything.
You're too kind. Listen, I'll find out what I can and meet you south of here. Hywel said that's where the largos went to find new prey, so that's where we'll start.
Talk quest option tango.png Sounds great. See you there.
Talk end option tango.png We'll have to play it by ear. Meet me south of here when you're ready.
Talk more option tango.png Nothing gets by the Order of Whispers. Check in with them.
Good idea. I know a Whispers agent named Zrii. She's a top-flight infiltrator, so she may know this largos—they're practically in the same line of work.
Ferocity Good. That largos is about to learn what it's like to be tracked down.

Talk more option tango.png Knowledge is the Priory's main commodity. They may know something.
Smart...which I've come to expect from you Priory folks. I'll tell them you need this info as soon as possible.
Ferocity Good. That largos is about to learn what it's like to be tracked down.

Talk end option tango.png We'll have to play it by ear. Meet me south of here when you're ready.
Talk more option tango.png Almost. What do you know about largos?
Not much. They're capable and efficient killers. They usually work alone and keep to themselves—and assassination isn't a job to them, it's a way of life.
Talk quest option tango.png We need to find this one and learn more about the orb. (same as Not quite. We need to know more about that orb. from above)
Talk end option tango.png Give me a moment to review the situation.
Talk end option tango.png I need to think this over before I answer.

Talking to Hywel after freeing him:

Warden Hywel: I owe you my life, and a lot more. I've seen and heard some incredible things during my captivity, things the Pact needs to know about.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me what you saw. Maybe I can help. (turns into Tell me more about that mysterious orb. after selecting one of the replies and returning here)
The krait had an orb. It was eerily beautiful—a perfect blue sphere, rippling with arcane power. They carried it in a reverent procession, like it was a holy relic.
Talk more option tango.png Any idea what it was?
None. I do know the procession travels with the orb to and from this tower every other day or so. I think they move it around as some kind of ward against Zhaitan's magic.
Talk back option tango.png I have another question.
Talk end option tango.png All right. We'd better get moving now.
Talk back option tango.png I have another question.
Talk end option tango.png All right. We'd all better get moving now.
Talk more option tango.png Would you consider formally joining the Pact?
I would consider it a singular honor. I need time to recover, and to share what I've learned, but after that—yes. I'll join the fight.
Talk back option tango.png I have another question.
Talk end option tango.png Welcome to the Pact, Warden. Apatia will see you to safety.
Talk more option tango.png I need to know more about the largos.
She and that charr were the only ones here who weren't visibly terrified. In fact, she seemed...amused. Then she slipped out of her cell, stalked the slavemaster, and killed him.
Talk more option tango.png She sounds formidable.
That's an underestatement. I called out to her, but she said it was up to me to free myself, as she did, and that she was going south to seek out "worthier prey."
Talk more option tango.png Any idea how we might find her?
You might pick up her trail south of here, but be careful: she might just as easily pick up yours. I'd hate for you to wind up in her trophy case.
Talk back option tango.png I have another question.
Talk end option tango.png That's a risk I'll have to take. Thank you, Warden.
Talk back option tango.png I have another question.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks for the information.
Talk back option tango.png I have another question.
Talk end option tango.png All right. We'd all better get moving now.
Talk more option tango.png How did you get captured?
My party was ambushed outside Caer Evermore. I was the only survivor. They spared me as a novelty: apparently, their "Prophets" required one more sylvari sacrifice.
Talk back option tango.png I have another question.
Talk end option tango.png You're safe now. And we'd all better get moving.
Talk end option tango.png You are our top concern. Apatia will see you to safety.

Talking to Apatia after quest completion:

Crusader Apatia: I'll get Hywel and the others to safety. Then let's meet up south of here to find that largos.
Talk more option tango.png What can you tell me about largos?
Not much. They're mysterious, they live in the depths, and their society seems based around efficient assassinations. The better you kill, the higher your status.
Talk more option tango.png You sound impressed.
I am. I pride myself on my hunting skills, too. Half of me wants to hunt beside her, and the other half wants to hunt her. Either way, my skills would improve.
Talk end option tango.png If you survive. Come on, we need to get moving.
Talk end option tango.png Interesting. I look forward to meeting this one.
Talk end option tango.png Sounds like a plan.

My story[edit]

Striking Off the Chains.jpg

Crusader Apatia and I attacked the krait slavers in their tower fortress. We defeated the krait and freed their prisoners, including Warden Hywel. The prisoners told us of a krait orb with the ability to prevent Zhaitan's magic from raising the dead, and of a largos who might have more answers. Apatia and I set out to find this largos in order to learn as much as we can about this strange and powerful artifact.

My story

Notes[edit]

After releasing all prisoners below the water and on the tower, the mission may get stuck before finding Warden Hywell and the Krait Priestess. Crusader Apatia may acknowledge that she sees Warden Hywell in his cage, but the Krait Priestess will remain impossible to engage. Walk up the length of the wooden beam leading up to the Warden to try actuating the combat trigger. Otherwise, restart the mission.
