Walkthrough[edit]

Meet with Anise in Divinity's Reach before heading to Moon Camp.

Anise is found on the same level as the palace itself, but behind the throne room. Taking a portal to the upper level is the simplest path there if a path around can't be found.

Get your bearings in Janthir.

Speak with your allies and Frode to make all rooms accessible, then examine 5 objects.

  • The "Map of Janthir" is found in the upper west room, the room where Frode is, to the right of the stairs.
  • In the upper east room is a "Kryptis Axe" to the left of the stairs.
  • The first object in the lower west room is a "Mursaat Relic" to the left of the door, in a glass showcase.
  • The second object in the lower west room is the "Janthir Historical Records", this time on the bookshelf on the right side of the door.
  • In the lower east room is a "Valravn Talon" in a glass showcase in the middle of the room.

Heading north then east from the camp is 5 spots to check: an Overlook to the river in the western end of the circle, and Old-Growth Pine a bit to the northeast of the Overlook that reveals an ambush of 3 Timber Wolves and 1 Veteran Timber Wolf, a Forest Stream in the northern end, an Unfamiliar Flowering Shrub close to the eastern end, and a high-up Cliff Face to the southwest spawn 3 Valravn and 1 Veteran Valravn that attack.

Track down the source of the distress call.

Following the distress call that comes leads to yet another ambush, this time by 3 Invasive Ibogas and 1 Veteran Iboga, as well as a trail of Claw Marks, Footprints, and Blood, leading east. Find the Astral Ward scouting party under attack by an Aggressive Warclaw. Upon reducing it to 50% health, a friendly but unknown Kodan will approach to help reduce its health further to be able to capture it with the special action skill Soothe the Beast.

When afterwards following this kodan, Barbed Vale, to a settlement with the subdued warclaw in tow, it will break free 4 times, each time requiring its health to be brought under 50% and subdued with the salve again. Give the warclaw some food from Barbed Vale (and optionally pet it) before following another kodan, Stoic Alder, into the largest building, the Bonfire Lodge, to meet the ruling council of the area.

Dialogue[edit]

Speaking to Anise in Divinity's Reach
Countess Anise: Prompt, as expected. Welcome, Commander. The gateway is active; I've word that Malice will meet you there.
Countess Anise: Got a glimpse of the place myself. Frode gave the queen a proper tour—he'll be expecting you too.
Countess Anise: Though, between friends, their definition of "camp" is...sweet. I'm sure you'll be very comfortable.
If asura:
<Character name>: Oh, yeah, that doesn't surprise me one bit.
If charr:
<Character name>: Great.
If human:
<Character name>: You should see the Wizard's Tower...
If norn:
<Character name>: Dramatics from the Astral Ward? Shocking.
If sylvari:
<Character name>: If I've learned anything of the Astral Ward, it's to expect opulence.
Countess Anise: You are quite adapted to them, aren't you? How are you feeling about the mission, then?
If asura:
<Character name>: Based on what I know, optimistic.
<Character name>: Entering an unexplored territory like Janthir to establish contact with kodan? That piques my interest.
If charr:
<Character name>: Hard to say without full tactical insight. Glad Malice is joining me.
<Character name>: Crossing into uncharted lands and securing contact with kodan wasn't my first guess.
If human:
<Character name>: Taking a wait-and-see approach. This is uncharted territory and Janthir has quite the reputation.
<Character name>: Venturing into Janthir to befriend kodan? Not how I envisioned that first big step.
If norn:
<Character name>: Ready for anything. Don't know what to expect, but I love an adventure.
<Character name>: I live and breathe the outdoors. That we're meeting kodan...let's just say we have a lot in common.
If sylvari:
<Character name>: Curious to see how the situation evolves. I'm glad we're moving in the right direction—Tyria, that is.
<Character name>: Janthir is a mysterious place and we'll no doubt learn much in our travels, but contacting the kodan there? Not what I expected.
Countess Anise: Diplomacy is a fine craft, Commander. And making allies requires an artisan.
Countess Anise: Oh, before you depart, do we prefer "Wayfinder" or "Commander," now?
If charr, human or norn:
<Character name>: For you? I don't know if you calling me anything but "Commander" would sound natural.
If asura or sylvari:
<Character name>: Whatever you prefer, honestly. I don't know if you calling me anything but "Commander" would sound natural.
Countess Anise: Old habits die hard, I suppose. Good luck.

Moon Camp instance[edit]

Approaching your allies
Vanak Faithwalker: Wayfinder, the guest of honor. Welcome to Moon Camp.
Vanak Faithwalker: Vanak, if you don't remember. Fought with you against the Kryptis in Amnytas.
If asura:
<Character name>: This is nicer than any field lab I've worked in.
If charr:
<Character name>: You call this a camp? More like a resort.
If human:
<Character name>: This is what you call a camp?
If norn:
<Character name>: I've slept in worse homesteads. This is grand.
If sylvari:
<Character name>: I...was not expecting such lavish accommodations.
Vanak Faithwalker: The Astral Ward, subtle? Not a chance. (chuckles) Good to see you closer to ground, though.
Vanak Faithwalker: I volunteered to help with the integration. Long overdue that we got involved in Tyrian affairs. More publicly, that is.
Vanak Faithwalker: Got a few things to atone for.
Malice Swordshadow: Commander. Vanak was giving us the lay of the land; dangerous place, Janthir. Eager to scope it out.
Caithe: I am, as well. There's something about the atmosphere here that wilts my senses.
If asura:
<Character name>: I wasn't expecting you here, Caithe.
If charr:
<Character name>: Surprised to see you here.
If human:
<Character name>: I didn't realize you were joining us too, Caithe.
If norn:
<Character name>: Are you following me? Ha! You're always welcome in my party, old friend.
If sylvari:
<Character name>: Sister! I wasn't expecting to see you here.
Caithe: On Dagonet's order. He didn't go into much detail about the Pale Tree's status, and perhaps it's not my place to say...
Caithe: But her recovery has been slower than we expected; some days she seems weaker than the day before. We search for a remedy.
Caithe: The Astral Ward knows magic. And ancient magic, at that. I'm hoping we can form a connection with you.
Vanak Faithwalker: I do too, for what it's worth. And all help is good in these parts. Janthir is a nasty place to get lost.
Vanak Faithwalker: But before you touch ground: Frode wanted to speak with you, Wayfinder. Seemed urgent enough to prioritize.
<Character name>: Right. I'll track him down.
Talking to Frode
If asura:
<Character name>: I hope you've gotten some sleep since our last adventure, friend.
If charr:
<Character name>: Always on your feet, like a true soldier.
If human:
<Character name>: Frode! I trust you're getting some sleep in between missions?
If norn:
<Character name>:Have you gotten an ounce of rest?
If sylvari:
<Character name>: Dear Frode! Do you ever stop and take a breath?
Frode: I used to be in charge of Moon Camp, before Levente named me Warden.
If asura:
<Character name>: There seems to be more at play here, especially when the warden is pulled from the sky.
If charr:
<Character name>: There is obviously something going on if it pulled the warden from his outpost in the sky.
If human:
<Character name>: Something must be serious to pull the warden from Amnytas.
If norn:
<Character name>: If they pulled you from your sky post, this must be serious.
If sylvari:
<Character name>: Why do I get the feeling there's more to this mission than outreach? Must be, when the warden is pulled from the sky.
Frode: You know us well. It's true. The lowland kodan will be fine allies of Queen Jennah and the Tyrian Alliance, that is no lie.
Frode: They know these lands better than most; Janthir and the northern stretches are formidable.
Frode: How much did you learn of Waiting Sorrow during your time in Amnytas?
<Character name>: Waiting Sorrow, as in your missing wizard? Not a lot, besides the fact that she created the Heart of the Obscure.
Frode: Indeed. I've never met her, of course, as she's been missing since before Ascalon burned to the ground...
Frode: This must stay between us, for now, but we suspect that she's hiding among the kodan.
<Character name>: You want me to find her.
Frode: It isn't a burden on your shoulders alone; the ward is here to support in whatever way we can. But... Yes. We need you to.
<Character name>: Is she dangerous?
Frode: She is very capable. For your own safety, expect resistance.
Frode: I wish I knew more. I... Between us, Wayfinder, all conversation about her turns Isgarren more conspiratorial than usual.
<Character name>: Then I'll keep my guard up.
Frode: Good. For what it's worth, Dagda doesn't agree with him. She was also Waiting Sorrow's closest friend, so there's bias.
Frode: But that's all I've got, so I'll leave you to it. Get to know the region; we'll set out in search of the kodan soon as well.
Frode: They've been known to homestead along the delta and the coastline. They'll build for a hundred or so years, then move.
Frode: Unsure of their exact position, but I imagine we're close. We portaled Moon Camp here to avoid scaring the locals.
<Character name>: Probably more subtle than flying it over the bay. Good call.
Frode: Stalwart Heart pulled some research noting that they're not especially keen on magic. A floating building may cause alarm.
Frode: But...good luck. I'll be here to guide you, as I can. Ward's busy with the reacclimation. It's going to be a long process.
Talking with Frode again for optional dialogue
<Character name>: How are things with the ward?
Frode: Fine. Tense. Isgarren wanted to lock our doors and go back into hiding, but that's just not an option for us.
Frode: We have a hundred fractal inhabitants taking up residence in Amnytas, and I doubt they want to stay.
Frode: They're sitting in a limbo of our making. And that's just one problem.
<Character name>: Are you going to get the alliance involved? Probably a smart move.
Frode: I think we have to. Lyhr agrees. He strongly agrees.
Frode: Isgarren's worried that the world will think us monsters. Which is a fair fear, but our actions aren't above critique.
Frode: I'm airing my angst. Suffered a few long nights, but we're moving in the right direction. Don't let me distract you.
Rejoining your allies outside
Malice Swordshadow: Any brilliant insights from Frode, Commander?
<Character name>: He and I caught up and talked about the kodan. We're not exactly sure where they're settled today, but they're likely close.
<Character name>: Astral Ward research also says that they're a little distrustful of magic. We'll want to keep that in mind.
Caithe: Sounds like we've plenty to strive for, then. We should get moving. I don't know this region.
Vanak Faithwalker: I'd recommend taking it slow. When we call Janthir treacherous, we mean it.
Examining the Kryptis Axe
<Character name>: That's a Kryptis axe. I'd recognize it anywhere.
Vanak Faithwalker: Yup. Moon Camp operated in the area during the attacks. Eparch's grunts were poking at something here.
Vanak Faithwalker: Never figured out what.
Caithe: Given Janthir's history, I imagine there are any number of things a demon could be drawn to. Not especially inspiring, though.
Interacting with the Map of Janthir
<Character name>: How big is Janthir?
Vanak Faithwalker: Huge. Practically in Kryta still, but the deltas are considered a part of the isles due to their climate and flora.
Vanak Faithwalker: It stretches far to the north, running parallel to the northern Shiverpeaks, as far as modern maps are concerned.
Vanak Faithwalker: The isles and bay make up most of the occupied territory, with some coastal regions lining the mainland.
Vanak Faithwalker: There was even a small human outpost on the isles, but it's long abandoned now. Don't know a lot about it.
Caithe: Not a good place to be, then.
Observing the Valravn Talon
Vanak Faithwalker: That's a valravn talon. Nasty beasts. The ward has little documentation, aside from a few firsthand accounts.
Vanak Faithwalker: What few travelers come through Janthir stay away from them at all costs.
Interacting with the Mursaat Relic and White Mantle Badge
Vanak Faithwalker: A lot of things come to Janthir to hide from the rest of Tyria.
Vanak Faithwalker: It's why the mursaat built Bava Nisos here. Though, that place is all ruins and storms now. Hard to get close.
<Character name>: Bava Nisos? What's that?
Vanak Faithwalker: Former mursaat city, fixed in the middle of the isles. Been abandoned for a long time. Don't think I'd want to go, anyway.
Vanak Faithwalker: Mabon told me about it. Didn't sound all that hospitable. He went back from time to time. Memories, I imagine. Or guilt.
Examining the Janthir Historical Records
<Character name>: What can you tell us about the history of this place?
Malice Swordshadow: Former home of the Mursaat—and later the White Mantle. From my research, there's been very little activity in recent years.
Vanak Faithwalker: Correct. Aside from the kodan, only a few other groups have called it home. Some centaur tribes, trolls.
Vanak Faithwalker: Creatures that keep to themselves. And the isles are another story.
Vanak Faithwalker: I'd recommend you read up on it. A lot of blood has been spilled here.
Leaving Moon Camp
Caithe: It's so quiet.
Malice Swordshadow: Reminds me of Drizzlewood. Abundant vegetation—I wonder how much of this is edible?
If asura:
<Character name>: Already getting comfortable, I see. Where to first?
If charr:
<Character name>: I'll let someone else sample the local cuisine. Now, where to first?
If human:
<Character name>: I learned a long time ago not to eat strange plants. Now, where should we go first?
If norn:
<Character name>:Only one way to find out. But where should we head to first?
If sylvari:
<Character name>: I guess we're acclimating. Where to first?
Caithe: Sounds like something to be determined by a "wayfinder."
Inspecting at the Overlook
Caithe: It may be dangerous, but this place... It's stunning.
If charr:
<Character name>: Beautiful. And deadly. I wonder where the current takes us...
If sylvari:
<Character name>: Breathtaking. I wonder where the flow of water will take us...
Otherwise:
<Character name>: That's one word for it. I wonder where the flow of water will take us...
Inspecting the Old-Growth Pine
Caithe: Goodness, look at you.
Caithe: This is a very old tree. Imagine the stories it could tell us... Standing tall and strong, protecting the smaller growth.
Malice Swordshadow: Eyes up, Caithe.
Inspecting the Forest Stream
<Character name>: We should follow that stream. See where it leads.
Inspecting the Cliff Face
<Character name>: Watch out for the cliff. Wouldn't make for a nice fall.
Malice Swordshadow: Never mind the cliff, watch out!
After fighting off the valravns
Caithe: What were those things?
Malice Swordshadow: Must be valravn. Talons look just like the one Vanak showed us.
Inspecting the Unfamiliar Flowering Shrub
Caithe: Janthiri flora is fascinating. And probably very toxic.
Astral Ward Scout Trima: (screams)
Astral Ward Scount Coralie: Ward—I need assistance! Now!
Unknown: (snarl)
Astral Ward Scout Trima: Alchemy, it won't calm!
Caithe: "Treacherous," eh?
<Character name>: Better check it out.
At Fungal Woodland
<Character name>: Together, everyone!
Caithe: What has them so riled up?
After killing the Ibogas
Malice Swordshadow: Attacking on sight so close to a populated camp is concerning behavior.
<Character name>: Bet it has something to do with that distress call.
Malice Swordshadow: Reasonable take.
Inspecting Claw Marks
<Character name>: Claw marks.
Caithe: And from quite a...large beast, I imagine.
Inspecting Footprints
<Character name>: Footprints and more claw marks. Chased them away from camp.
Inspecting Blood
Malice Swordshadow: Blood. We'd better hurry.
Astral Ward Scout Trima: Anyone! H-help us!
<Character name>: Come on.
Reaching the scouting party
Astral Ward Scout Trima: Wayfinder!
When the Aggressive Warclaw reaches 50% health
Unknown: Surround it. Quickly.
Unknown: We're here to calm, not to kill; maintain eye contact and be firm.
Unknown: The rest of you—follow as we guide. The creature is vulnerable. Again, we don't seek to kill it unless absolutely necessary.
Malice Swordshadow: Who are you?
Unknown: Outlander, use this salve.
Subduing the warclaw with the salve
Unknown: Breathe.
Astral Ward Scout Trima: W-who are you...?
Unknown: Curious garbs, you wear. Perhaps something sturdier would do you better in these parts.
Unknown: Which of you is the leader?
Caithe: Commander...?
Speaking with the kodan
If asura:
<Character name>: I'm leading this expedition.
Unknown: A voice that commands armies, I imagine. I'd like to get to know you; I'm sure the Claw would too.
If charr:
<Character name>: I am.
Unknown: Well met, warrior of the citadel. I'd like to get to know you; I'm sure the Claw would too.
If human:
<Character name>: I'm in charge.
Unknown: I've looked at those great walls all my life. Proud, the humans. I'd like to get to know you; I'm sure the Claw would too.
If norn:
<Character name>: Look no further.
Unknown: A child of bitter wind; you'll fare just fine here. I'd like to get to know you better; I'm sure the Claw would too.
If sylvari:
<Character name>: I suppose that would be me.
Unknown: I share your connection to nature, sproutling. I'd like to get to know you; I'm sure the Claw would too.
Unknown: The sun is fading. Wherever you traveled from, our village is likely closer. Follow. We've got a fire for you to sit by.
Astral Ward Scout Coralie: Thank you.
<Character name>: We'll follow, but who are you?
Unknown: Barbed Vale. Come, you can help us lead the journeykin to safety.
Unknown: But we must move quickly, unless you want to lose yourself in the woods. Our nights have been far darker. The valravn watch.
Malice Swordshadow: "Journeykin"? You mean that wild animal?
Barbed Vale: Fascinating beasts, they are. Came to us from far away. They need protectors.
When the warclaw becomes aggressive again
Caithe: It's enraged again?
Barbed Vale: Stay calm. Help it release that energy, just like last time.
Getting the warclaw to 50% health
Barbed Vale: As I told you, outlander. The salve!
When the warclaw becomes aggressive again
Barbed Vale: Again! Keep your voices stable. Help it relax.
Caithe: (deep breath)
Getting the warclaw to 50% health
Barbed Vale: Use the salve.
Using the salve
<Character name>: We're your friends.
Barbed Vale: Good. Good.
When the warclaw becomes aggressive again
Malice Swordshadow: Starting to think that it's enjoying this.
Barbed Vale: It could be. Let it release that energy.
Getting the warclaw to 50% health
Barbed Vale: Again, the salve!
Reaching the kodan village
Barbed Vale: Welcome.
After the introduction cutscene
Caithe: And so close to camp. I was expecting a little more of a hike...
Barbed Vale: It's been a long while since we've let the outside in. Travelers avoid these lands, and for good reason.
Barbed Vale: Not intentional isolation, that is. It isn't my story to tell, however. And we're nearing the pen.
Leading the warclaw into the taming pen
Barbed Vale: Here, "Commander." Use this to calm the beast.
<Character name>: What is it?
Barbed Vale: Food.
Feeding the warclaw
Barbed Vale: Animals, especially feral ones, only know a life of hunting. Fighting for their food.
Barbed Vale: A kind interaction and a gift is sometimes all it needs to learn trust.
Stoic Alder: You return with more than another journeykin, Spear Master.
Barbed Vale: More creatures, lost in the wild.
Malice Swordshadow: A claw of the kodan that I've never heard of, huh?
Stoic Alder: Call me Stoic Alder.
Barbed Vale: We found them in the forest, defending themselves against this one.
Stoic Alder: I'm glad you intervened before any lives were lost.
Stoic Alder: Come, we should speak.
Speaking with Stoic Alder
<Character name>: As a delegate of the Tyrian Alliance, it's good to meet you, Stoic Alder.
Stoic Alder: Interesting. I never thought Tyria capable.
Stoic Alder: Clearly we've plenty to discuss. Come. The village welcomes you.
Barbed Vale: I'll tend to our friend.
On the way to the lodge
Stoic Alder: Thankfully, you've stumbled into the kindest alcove in Janthir.
Reaching the table in the lodge
Stoic Alder: Seems we have visitors. Rather unexpected, in our keep.
Stoic Alder: Welcome the Tyrian Alliance.
Wry Lichen: Tyria has allied? Amusing joke you play, leader.
Malice Swordshadow: Your skepticism is understandable, but given the severity of recent threats, Tyria needed to act fast and unitarily.
Poised Arrow: Threats? Surely the strangers do not walk among all lands?
Stoic Alder: (clearing throat)
<Character name>: If you mean the creatures attacking from Mist portals, I'm afraid so. We call them Kryptis.
Stoic Alder: Ah, Mist portals. It's of the fleshstalkers that this alliance speaks.
Stoic Alder: Yes, as foes they proved...fatal ones. Lives lost on your front as well, then?
Caithe: I'm afraid so. And allying proved the viable solution, finally.
Stoic Alder: Fear can be a supreme unifier. Or divider, depending on how it is channeled.
Stoic Alder: So this is why you come to my hearth with eyes carrying intention? A bid to join your alliance?
<Character name>: Who knows what other threats the Mists might bring. Should that happen, we'll have strength in numbers.
Stoic Alder: I respect your good intentions but need time to ponder its implications for our own.
Stoic Alder: For now, that is my decision.
Stoic Alder: At this time, I extend our visitors the opportunity to speak with our council members.
Talking to Graced by Fire
The Tyrian Alliance, you say? Interesting.
Talk quest option tango.png Nice to meet you. What's your role on this council?
Graced by Fire: Graced by Fire. Journeykin Master.
Graced by Fire: Apologies. My thoughts are occupied by council matters at the moment.
Graced by Fire: If you find yourself with time to pass, my apprentice Burning River is out tending the village journeykin.
Graced by Fire: Tell him to give you some lessons at my request. They're fine creatures. I suspect you'll make fast friends.
Talk end option tango.png It was nice meeting you.
Talking to Vast Caldera
Greetings.
Talk quest option tango.png Hello. What's your role on this council?
I'm the council's hunting master, Vast Caldera.
Talk end option tango.png Nice to meet you.
Talk end option tango.png Good to meet you, but I must be going.
Talking to Soaring Crest
Hail, fellow, and well met.
Talk quest option tango.png Hello. What's your role on this council?
You can call me Soaring Crest. I am the master of agriculture on this council.
Talk end option tango.png Nice to meet you.
Talk end option tango.png Well met to you, too.
Talking to Deft Lahar
Hrmph. Yes?
Talk quest option tango.png Hello. What's your role on this council?
I am Deft Lahar. The homestead master. I oversee the building of all manner of things for our villages.
Talk end option tango.png Nice to meet you.
Talk end option tango.png Never mind.
Talking to Wry Lichen
Welcome to our village. What do you seek?
Talk quest option tango.png Nice to meet you. What's your role on this council?
Wry Lichen: Why, hello there. Wry Lichen. Humble Lore Master of the lowland.
Wry Lichen: Long before our tribe come to inhabit Janthir, we hailed from a sanctuary in the far north.
Wry Lichen: In those times, we were led by two honored kodan: A Claw, chosen by the people. Alder's role, same as his mother before him.
Wry Lichen: Also, a Voice. She was chosen by Koda himself to share in his mind, ultimately proving her worth by the Trial of Faith.
Wry Lichen: A trial that would prove both to her detriment and the tribe's. Midtrial, nearly crushed by the weight of madness...
Wry Lichen: She fled. Some call it cowardice. I believe it was the will to survive that seized her from the brink of oblivion.
Wry Lichen: The same will of our Claw channeled in the trial's aftermath. Rather than risk ruin, he led the tribe south. To Janthir.
Wry Lichen: Given time, some kodan found themselves called back by the will of Koda. A call they followed to Orr.
Wry Lichen: The rest, our forebears, remained. And it is here, free from gods, tried only by nature, that we find our sanctuary.
Wry Lichen: At least, that's the speech I've prepared for the cubs' annual history visit. I fear it sounds a bit rehearsed...
Talk end option tango.png Just saying hello.
Talking to Fading Aurora
My, aren't you a spry adventurer, coming out all this way. Welcome.
Talk quest option tango.png Thank you. You can call me Wayfinder. What's your role on the council?
Fading Aurora: Fading Aurora. Village Healing Master.
Stoic Alder: Aurora and Barbed Vale, who you first ran into, are two of our newest to don the Master title.
Stoic Alder: Though judging by their expertise, one would suspect them seasoned veterans of their respective crafts.
Stoic Alder: Additionally, Aurora has fast proved an upstanding mentor for my son.
Poised Arrow: Currently working on the fundementals of herbalism.
Fading Aurora: Save some praise for yourself, Alder. The previous Claw would be proud to see how well you're faring in the position.
Stoic Alder: The Claw Aurora speaks of was my mother. Feels both long ago and as recent as yesterday that she stood where I do now...
Poised Arrow: Though a few claw lengths shorter. By my coming of age, she barely made it to my shoulders.
Poised Arrow: But her presence was grand enough to fill the room.
Fading Aurora: A true leader of kodan. Many have noted the resemblance. See a bit of her in you both.
Fading Aurora: Wayfinder, you find yourself in good company. Hope you can make yourself at home here.
Talk end option tango.png Thank you.
Talking to Poised Arrow
Hello, outsider.
Talk quest option tango.png Nice to meet you. What's your role on this council?
Poised Arrow: The role of Claw was taken, so I settled for a title more modest.
Stoic Alder: My son has some years before he claims such expertise. Though his mind is sharp.
Stoic Alder: Observing our council provides him practical education. Instills discipline.
Poised Arrow: Poised Arrow. Son of Stoic Alder and Silken Weir. You?
Talk quest option tango.png Commander, or wayfinder. Wayfinder is probably more fitting these days.
Poised Arrow: A wayfinder losing their way in our woods? Heh. Now, "Commander," that has a strong sound to it.
Poised Arrow: But if you insist, Lost-Your-Way-Finder.
Stoic Alder: Ah, seems our visitor also claims two names. We of the lowland drop formality with those we most respect. Right, Poky?
Poised Arrow: Yes, Paw.
Talk end option tango.png Good talking to you.
Talk end option tango.png Good to meet you, but I need to be going.
Speaking with Stoic Alder
Graced by Fire: Leader, best we return to the planned agenda? Pressing as it is.
Stoic Alder: Your concerns are sensible, Graced by Fire.
Stoic Alder: Poised Arrow, I'm afraid our discussion shall prove as stuffy to our guests as the air in this hall. Show them around?
Poised Arrow: But we've only just— A fine idea. Best they enjoy the weather while it holds. Meet me outside when you're set.
Stoic Alder: Alliance, I deem you welcome visitors for the time being. Feel free to acquaint yourselves with our town.
Stoic Alder: Fortunate for you, the embers of our summer season burn brightest. May your time here pass well.

My story[edit]

Divinity's Reach loading screen.jpg

I traveled to Divinity's Reach to meet with Countess Anise. The Astral Ward had set up a portal between the city and Moon Camp—one of their outposts stationed at the southernmost edge of Janthir. That's going to be our base of operations for this mission. Anise warned me that the accommodations were a little grand, but I've come to expect a degree of theatrics when it comes to the Astral Ward.

***

When I stepped through the portal to Moon Camp, Malice was waiting for me. She was already taking in her new surroundings, soaking up every bit she could. To my surprise, Caithe was by her side. She explained that she was joining us on Dagonet's order; a diplomatic gesture, I'm sure. Part of me suspects she needed an adventure, especially after Aurene went to sleep. I don't know that anyone from Destiny's Edge could be comfortable with a desk job.

The two of them were chatting with Vanak, a representative from the Astral Ward I briefly fought beside in Amnytas. Before getting acclimated, they told me Frode wanted to speak with me alone. I found him in his temporary office, tired and hunched over a desk, manning the Tyrian acclimation efforts.

Since everything came to fruition—the Tyrian Alliance and this sudden mission to enter Janthir under the guise of diplomacy—I'd been waiting for the other boot to drop. Everything lined up a little too well. Frode asked if I'd heard of Waiting Sorrow while I was helping the Astral Ward fight the Kryptis. The name sounded familiar, and he reminded me that she was the one who had crafted the Heart of the Obscure. Former leader of the Bastion of the Celestial, as I recall. She's been missing for two centuries and supposedly hiding among the kodan in Janthir.

Isgarren dubbed her a "villain," but Frode warned me that Isgarren's assumptions were contested by Dagda. He also stressed that even with our newly revealed ulterior motive, the lowlanders would still make for ample allies to the alliance. It would be a productive mission regardless of whether we find our target.

Before turning me away, he gave me what intel he could: These kodan are nomadic, building for a hundred or so years and then moving elsewhere in the region when the time suits them. And they're suspicious of magic. Good to know.

After my enlightening chat with Frode, I returned to the others. Before setting out into the wilds to get our first real taste of Janthir, Vanak showed us around Moon Camp and shared what details about the region they could. Rumors of an abandoned mursaat city somewhere on the isles and remnants of the White Mantle; beasts of the wild and thick, dense forest. I had a feeling that Janthir would be dangerous, and the ward's intel confirms it.

When we were done with the tour, Malice, Caithe, and I departed Moon Camp and made our way into the thick of the woods. Ancient. A little frightening. Peaceful.

And then we were ambushed by a pack of wolves and valravn—regional pests. A warm welcome.

***

After quelling the threats, we navigated further into the forest. We caught an Astral Ward signal—a distress call. A couple of ward scouts were being attacked by something, and that something sounded big. We followed their trail, defending against attacking creatures as we made our way through the trees.

When we eventually caught up to the two Astral Ward members, they were fighting for their lives against a strange beast. A warclaw, I think? I didn't think they left the Mists.

Before we could make a dent in the beast, a hunting party of kodan hurried into the fray. The allies we'd been seeking came right to us. Their leader motioned for us to halt, directing us to calm the beast by other means. She gave us a salve to do so, and to our surprise, it worked.

Once everything in the clearing had settled and the beast was calm, the lowlander inspected the two Astral Ward members. She cautiously introduced herself as Barbed Vale and offered to guide us to their village before dusk; the forest would become even more dangerous after sunset.

Her underlings quietly and carefully watched us as we departed for the village.

***

We followed Barbed Vale back to the village, which wasn't too lengthy a march. The warclaw, or "journeykin" as the lowlanders call them, got itself a little spun up as we went. We managed to calm it down just in time to reach the gates of Harvest Den, the lowlander village.

Barbed Vale led me to a pen for the journeykin and handed me some concoction to feed it. The creature's demeanor finally calmed enough to let me to stand close. Guess we could all use a touch of food when the mood sours.

As the journeykin settled into its pen, another voice interrupted us. Stoic Alder, the Claw of the lowland kodan, looked from Barbed Vale to us and asked our purpose. His introduction was brief, guiding us straight toward the biggest lodge at the heart of the village. Likely that haste was to keep his people calm—or maybe it was to keep his unexpected visitors in line.

He guided us inside their assembly hall, right into the thick of their own council meeting. Like ripping a bandage from a fresh wound, he introduced us as the Tyrian Alliance. The rest of the council was skeptical; whatever conversation they'd been in the middle of when we entered was now silent. One of the younger kodan mentioned something about "strangers among lands." When I offered intel on the Kryptis, Stoic Alder shook his head. If I had to guess, whatever they're dealing with is a different threat, and they're not quite ready to share.

Whatever that threat may be, I did what I came to do: I offered them a place in the Tyrian Alliance. Allies in a world where friends are critical. The Claw seemed less than enthused; perhaps not hostile, but not especially interested so far. It wasn't the time or place.

After conversation died down, he invited us to meet the rest of the village council and get to know the village firsthand. The lowlanders seem to operate under one leader, their Claw, who is themself advised by several heads of established disciplines, or "masters." So far, I've met Graced by Fire, the warclaw or "journeykin" master; Fading Aurora, the healing master; Wry Lichen, the lore master; and Barbed Vale, the spear master. I was also introduced to the Claw's son, Poised Arrow, or "Poky," whose self-assured demeanor almost makes me miss the naïve confidence of youth. His father tasked him with showing us around the village, an experience I'm sure will be as eventful as it is informative.
