Heart of the Obscure Research[1] is a mastery that allows players to hunt and close Kryptis Rifts during Rift Hunting with the use of the eponymous Heart of the Obscure object. It will be available exclusively through the Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure expansion.
Lore[edit]
The Heart of the Obscure is a mysterious, magical object crafted by Waiting Sorrow,[2] which has the ability to both open and seal rifts, as well as translate certain languages.[3] At some point, Zojja found it and began studying it, and she later handed it over to the Pact Commander while pointing out that she was still learning the depths of its power.
Mechanics[edit]
- The Heart of the Obscure can be used to track, hunt and close Kryptis Rifts throughout the world. See Rift Hunting for more details.
- After leveling the appropriate masteries, the Heart can also create updrafts or ley lines as well as open Minor and Greater Arcane Chests in select locations in the Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure zones.

- Rian taught me how to use the Heart of the Obscure— the device that Zojja gave me in the battle prior that we used to close rifts at the Beacon of Ages. Apparently, it was crafted by a kodan wizard named Waiting Sorrow who has since left the Astral Ward (on somewhat precarious terms, I hear). Whenever I channel the device's power, strange waves of emotion seem to guide me forward. Though I can't describe why, I feel a strong connection to it already.
