It's time to settle things with Two-Blade Pete once and for all. The streets of Divinity's Reach are far too dangerous with him on the loose. Even with Logan Thackeray's help, it won't be easy to lure Pete out and bring him to justice.

— In-game description

Breaking the Blade is part of the personal story for human characters of the street rat origin who have completed The Rescue or The Greater Good.

Objectives[edit]

Stop Two-Blade Pete before he gets his revenge.

Walkthrough[edit]

Go to Salma District and enter the tavern to talk to Thackeray. He explains that Pete will send his goons to kill you, while waiting nearby. If you keep defeating them, he will show up to finish the job himself. There is no timer, you have to fight 3 waves of 3 enemies inside the tavern. If you need to get out of combat to switch skills or weapons at the end of one wave, you can go stand at the end of the room, by the big round table.

Logan will hide until Two-Blade Pete arrives, leaving you and Quinn (if he is alive) to fight the gang. Either Doc Howler or Crusher Dan will be among your opponents (on the 3rd wave), whichever one you didn't fight in the previous mission.

Poison and bleeding are used a lot, especially by Doc Howler, who also has a lot of health (this fight may be more difficult due to that than the next one). Make sure you have a skill or two to remove conditions, and bringing evasion skills or skills that cause blindness will greatly increase your odds as well.

Once the enemies are defeated, Two-Blade Pete will arrive and Thackeray will join the fight, however do not count on them to help you, only Thackeray will last and he does not keep aggro well. Pete's ranged attack hits very hard and he uses it often, so it is recommended to bring skills that block or let you evade his attacks. Blind is less effective for this fight, because Pete is a Champion. Defeat Pete to end the mission.

Dialogue[edit]

On the way to the tavern, if you chose The Rescue:

Quinn: Lead on.
Citizen (1): My grandfather died from drinking that well water! I thought the Seraph was supposed to protect us!
Citizen (1): My brother in the Ministry Guard is right: they're all just Queen Jennah's lapdogs. They don't care about us.
Citizen (2): No, I saw Logan Thackeray outside his office afterwards. He was beside himself.
Citizen (2): If he doesn't care, he's really good at faking it.
Villager: I had one glass with dinner. Haven't been able to keep anything down since. (gag)

Talking to Quinn:

Quinn: Are you ready for this? I mean, I know I am. I'm ready. Really ready. I'm only wondering if you are. Ready, I mean.
Talk more option tango.png
Your hands are shaking.
It's excitement, that's all. Hey...in case I didn't say it before, thanks. For, you know. Saving me. And everything else.
Talk more option tango.png
That's what friends are for, right?
You know, ever since we were kids, I've looked up to you. Don't let me down now!
Talk more option tango.png
Thanks, Quinn.
Sssh. I think I hear something.
Talk end option tango.png
That'll be Two-Blade's thugs. They'll be here any minute now. Get ready.
Talk more option tango.png
More than ready. Two-Blade Pete's finally going to pay for everything he's done.
That's the spirit. May Grenth spit in their eye.
Talk more option tango.png
Just like old times, right? (Same as "That's what friends are for, right?")

On the way to the tavern - If you chose The Greater Good:

Citizen (1): You hear about a guy called Quinn? A bit of a rascal.
Citizen (2): Never met him.
Citizen (1): Well, now you never will. He ratted out Two-Blade Pete. They found half of him in the fountain and half of him in the lake.
Villager: Two-Blade Pete killed the Hero of Shaemoor's friend. Those two are heading for a showdown.

Approaching Logan Thackeray:

Logan Thackeray: You and Petra should hide upstairs. Things might get rough and I don't want to see you getting hurt.

Dialogue with Logan:

Logan Thackeray: (If did The Rescue) Two-Blade Pete will be here soon. Are you ready?
Talk quest option tango.png
I'm ready. It's time to teach him a permanent lesson.
But I see your friend is safe, thank Dwayna. The Seraph managed to stop the bandits, but some poison still got into the well.
Talk quest option tango.png
He's fine and we're both ready for a little vengeance.
That's what I like to hear. Now let's use Two-Blade's arrogance against him. He wants our heads for ruining his schemes at the well.
Talk quest option tango.png
I'm ready. What's the plan?
Two-Blade's sending thugs to do his dirty work, but I know him. He'll be close by to watch his victory. Hold off the thugs long enough and he'll come to finish the job himself.
Talk quest option tango.png
What about you?
Don't worry. When Two-Blade shows his ugly face, I'll ambush him. He won't stand a chance against our combined strength.
Talk quest option tango.png
I trust your judgment. Let's get started.
Talk more option tango.png
So I'm bait, and you're the hammer. I hope you jump in before it's too late!
It's dangerous, but it's the only way to draw out Two-Blade. Don't worry. I give you my word: on the life of the queen, I won't let you down.
Talk more option tango.png
''I'll trust you. This time.
Talk end option tango.png
I'm not ready yet. Tell me about it later.
Talk quest option tango.png
Are the villagers ok?
They'll be fine in a few days. We stopped most of the poison, so it was a small dose. Now are you ready to take on Two-Blade Pete?
Talk quest option tango.png
You bet we are. What's the plan? (Same as "I'm ready. What's the plan?")
Talk end option tango.png
The fact that Quinn is safe is success enough for me.
Talk end option tango.png
Give me a moment to prepare myself.
Logan Thackeray: (If did The Greater Good) Two-Blade Pete will be here soon. Are you ready?
Talk quest option tango.png
I'm ready. It's time to teach him a permanent lesson.
I'm sorry to hear about your friend Quinn. In honor of his memory, we'll put an end to Pete.
Talk quest option tango.png
He would've liked that. Quinn chose his path, but I'll miss him. Pete will pay; I'll see to that.
That's what I like to hear. Now let's use Two-Blade's arrogance against him. He wants our heads for ruining his schemes at the well.

As Logan hides:

Logan Thackeray: We can handle Pete. I know a charr that makes him look like a cuddly stuffed toy... and an asura whose tongue is so sharp it cuts glass.

Cinematic with Riot Alice:

Riot Alice: What are you doing here? Don't you know Pete's on his way here to kill you?
<Character name>: I'm counting on it.
Riot Alice: Always the brave one. Listen, I took your advice and I'm getting out.
Riot Alice: Don't do something stupid like getting yourself killed before I have a chance to thank you properly.
<Character name>: Don't worry. I'll deal with Pete. We'll see each other again after this is all over.
Riot Alice: I'm going to hold you to that.

Talking to Quinn during fight:

Quinn: Watch it! These guys aren't done yet. Keep your eye on the fight!
Talk end option tango.png
You got it.

Cinematic with Pete:

Two-Blade Pete: You think you're smarter than Pete, do ya? Think you hurt me? Let me tell you something.
<Character name>: Better men than you have tried.
Two-Blade Pete: Tried and failed? Look, kid. I'm not easily intimi-
<Character name>: Tried and died.
Two-Blade Pete: Huh. Maybe I underestimated you.
Logan Thackeray: More than you know. Prison's full, Pete. Let's skip the trial and go straight to the execution.

After killing Pete, if The Rescue was completed:

Quinn: We are so good.
Quinn cheers for <Character name>.

Cinematic after defeating Two-Blade Pete:

If The Rescue was completed:
Logan Thackeray: Very impressive. You've stopped Two-Blade Pete and run his bandits out of Divinity's Reach.
<Character name>: Thanks. I'm just glad that Pete won't hurt anyone, ever again.
Logan Thackeray: Enjoy your victory. I'll be in touch with you again soon. The Seraph can always use a friend they can trust.
Quinn: Woo hoo! We win!
Logan Thackeray: So, Quinn. Seeing as you've committed multiple crimes against the city...
Quinn: Lyssa's locks! Not prison!
Logan Thackeray: But you did help the Seraph, too. I guess I can look the other way—this one time.
Quinn: Thanks, Captain. I'll stay out of trouble, I promise.
<Character name>: You'd better. I won't always be around to help you out.
Quinn: You saved my life, and I owe you one. I won't forget it.
<Character name>: Hey. That's what friends do. See you around, Quinn.
If The Greater Good was completed:
Logan Thackeray: Very impressive, my friend. You've stopped Two-Blade Pete and run his bandits out of Divinity's Reach.
<Character name>: Thanks. I'm just glad that Pete is out of business. Permanently.
Logan Thackeray: I'm sorry about your friend, but your work here saved many lives. I'll see to it that the queen hears of your valor... and Quinn's sacrifice.
<Character name>: Bragging to the queen? Yeah. I think Quinn would have liked that.
Logan Thackeray: I'll be in touch with you again soon. The Seraph can always use a friend they can trust.
<Character name>: I'll be ready. Thanks, Captain.

After the cinematic, if The Greater Good was completed:

Logan Thackeray: Well, Pete's gone and you're back. I'd say the streets just got a lot safer...and more hygienic.

Talking to NPCs at the end

Logan Thackeray: Well done! Now Two-Blade Pete is nothing more than a bad memory.
Talk more option tango.png
A lot of vicious punks are waiting to take his place. I'd like to give them what Two-Blade got.
If you're serious, I'd like to take you up on that. Unofficially, of course. I need more friends like you, who know how to get a job done. What do you say?
Talk more option tango.png
Are you kidding? Me, friends with the Captain of the Seraph? I'd be honored.
Glad to hear it. I'll be in touch. Until then, keep your wits about you and stay safe.
Talk end option tango.png
Will do. I'll be waiting to hear from you.
Talk more option tango.png
He didn't deserve any mercy in this world. Maybe he'll do better in the Mists.
Well said. It's been an honor to fight by your side. And on behalf other Seraph, I hope this won't be the only time. We need more friends we can count on.
Talk more option tango.png
You can count on me. If I can ever help you out again, just let me know. (Same as "A lot of vicious punks are waiting to take his place. I'd like to give them what Two-Blade got.")
Quinn: Not bad! I would've done more, but I wanted to see you in action. I'll stick around and keep an eye on you from now on. You don't disappoint.
Talk more option tango.png
You mean you'll stick closer to home now that you've been seen fighting for the Seraph.
Yeah, that too. But I'm sure I'll be safe. Who would mess with me now? I mean, my best friend's a hero!
Talk end option tango.png
Just don't let my success go to your head, Quinn. See you around.
Petra: That was amazing! You're amazing!
Talk more option tango.png
Petra! Were you watching the whole time? You could have been hurt.
Oh, bah. Two-Blade was too busy fighting you to see me peeking in. You really are a hero. I'm going to tell everybody!
Talk more option tango.png
It'll be nice to be thought of as more than just another kid from the streets.
You're a lot more than that. You're the hero of Shaemoor, the bane of Two-Blade Pete!
Talk end option tango.png
Thanks Petra. I appreciate that.
Innkeeper Andrew: By Melandru's hops! Two-Blade Pete, defeated in my bar!
Talk more option tango.png
Sorry about the mess. How are you holding up?
Great! Once word of this gets out, people will flock to us to hear the story of how our bar was personally defended by the hero of Shaemoor!
Talk more option tango.png
Well, that's one way to look at it.
Come back anytime. You see destined for great things.
Talk end option tango.png
Thanks, Andrew. I'll remember that.

My story[edit]

Breaking the Blade.jpg

Captain Thackeray and I set a trap for Two-Blade Pete-and I was the bait. I fought Pete's gang members until Pete arrived. When he did, Thackeray and the Seraph ambushed him. Together, Logan and I put an end to Two-Blade Pete and his gang.

Notes[edit]

Sometimes Doc Howler will show up even if you completed The Greater Good.
