King of the Jungle

King of the Jungle is the map meta event in Tangled Depths. All four outposts have been established and now the Order of Whispers is trying to fire a cannon into Dragon's Stand to bring the fight to Mordremoth, but they must protect the cannons from the most powerful kind of Chak, the Legendary Chak Gerent, to do so. The event to spawn the Legendary Chak Gerent happens every 20 minutes past the hour, at a 2 hour interval rate. Once the 20 minute timer reaches its end, two timers will pop up once more, both having 5 minutes each; giving the people a heads-up that the Gerent is about to spawn.

Players must contest four lanes: Rata Novus Lane, Nuhoch Lane, Ogre Lane, and SCAR Lane. The goal in each is to use the lane's special mechanics to spawn the Chak Gerent and then to kill it. Failure to do so will cause the Chak Gerent to burrow straight ahead to the cannon and destroy it in one blow, making the meta event fail.

Preparation[edit]

Players should make 4 separate squads/groups for each of the lanes. About 15 players per lane is ideal, to provide optimal health scaling for the boss.

Those joining a lane or respawning after dying should start from the waypoint at their respective lane's base, and then use the nearby Nuhoch Wallow to quickly get to the action. In later phases of the meta event, using the 'Ley-Line Confluence Waypoint' will be faster.

Food, utility and booster buffs, especially to player damage, will be a great help in taking out each boss as quickly as possible.

Attraction Phase

At the start of this phase, the Chak Gerent is burrowed and invulnerable to damage. Moving too close will still cause it to attack, so it should be avoided during this phase.

Each lane has its own unique method of drawing out the Gerent, with players interacting with the lane's environment in some way. Failure to complete this event will cause the entire meta event to fail. After reaching a base level required for success, subsequent interactions will help the players in the Attack Phase, either by weakening the Gerent or spawning NPCs to tank and deal additional damage.

Additionally, during each attraction phase a wave of chak (of regular and Veteran levels) will spawn, ignoring players and rushing towards the cannon. Each lane will need a smaller sub-group of players to respond as defense, ready to drop what they are doing and kill off the wave. Area of effect damage and crowd control will help this immensely.

Burn/Attack Phase

If the lane successfully completes their attraction event, the Chak Gerent will unburrow and actively attack players for 3 minutes. Since this only happens up to 3 times, each lane has a limited amount of times and tries to kill their Gerent, which requires each player to provide substantial damage.

The Chak Gerent has numerous knockbacks with its melee and charging attacks, so well-timed Stability usage is very welcome. Purple-colored Pheromone Clouds will also form on the ground (commonly referred to as a 'donut' due to its shape) which deal heavy damage to anyone inside.

Periodically the Gerent will stand still and use Cave In, slapping its tail on the ground and causing rocks to fall for heavy AoE damage and knockdown. During this time the Gerent's Defiance bar unlocks. This can be used as an opportunity to keep the Gerent suppressed to one spot, should one choose to not break the Defiance Bar. Note that the SCAR lane's Gerent will be quickly interrupted out of this attack.

If the Gerent is not yet dead after an attack phase ends, it will re-burrow and move further along the lane, closer to the cannon. The previous section of the lane becomes poisoned, dealing damage over time to players and forcing them to move alongside the Gerent. The Attraction Phase then begins again.

It may be wise for commanders of a lane to ask their team/squad to get moving just before the attack phase timer ends, so as to get players in position for the attraction phase events. This is especially crucial for the Nuhoch lane, where the Nodules are not easily accessible.

Once a lane's Gerent is defeated, no more chak rushes will occur in that area. This makes it safe to send any victorious lanes' members to assist another group.

Map Meta Rewards[edit]

Can be opened multiple times per day, but will only reward the Tangled Depths: Hero's Choice Chest once per day per account.

Earning participation
  • One time per phase: 25% for completing a phase event (either the chak rush or drawing out the gerent).
  • One time only: 25% for killing a gerent, plus 25% for each phase prevented by an early kill.

Thus, if you participate in each phase and kill the gerent, you will receive 100% participation. The bonus credit you receive from an early kill does not count against the actual credit for the events, so it is possible to earn additional credit by completing those phases in lanes that are still active. This allows you to reach a maximum of 150% participation. When Tangled Depth is the target of Kryptis Rifts, one can reach 200% participation.

Agent Zildi: All right, team! Listen up. I have a plan to get us further into the jungle. It's so simple, even you lot can do it.
Agent Zildi: With the chak's routine disrupted, this is the perfect time to strike, but our cannons need time to charge.
Agent Zildi: We'll have to repair the power conductors and defend them for...several minutes.
Agent Targius: Several minutes? Like two or three?
Agent Korrin: Not like we have somewhere else to be...
Agent Caerys: What exactly will we be defending them from?
Agent Zildi: Chak, and more. We all know something big is lurking down here. I have a feeling it'll make an appearance.
Agent Caerys: Divide and conquer! I'll head west and fix that cannon.
Agent Korrin: Right. I'll head east.
Agent Zildi: I'll head northeast to Rata Novus. Who's taking northwest, toward the Nuhoch?
Agent Targius: I will. I wanted to see all that fungus, anyway.
Agent Zildi: Keep your heads together, squad. Fix the cannon, and then team up with the heroes to defend.
Upon successful completion
Agent Caerys: Break and fall!
Agent Zildi: Optimal result. Access to Mordremoth's inner sanctum is ours!
Agent Targius: That was amazing!
Agent Korrin: Now that's a hole! Hey, give Mordremoth my regards!
Upon failure
Agent Zildi: All that effort wasted. At least we know how to redirect the energy.

Notes[edit]

When the Rata Novus gerent uses Cave In, the areas of falling ceiling do not deal damage or knockdown.
  • Successful completion of this map meta allows players access to the "Plains of Golghein" Strongbox as well as an alternate entry point into Dragon's Stand.
  • This meta event is unique in that participation is normally capped at 150%, rather than 200%. However, Kryptis Rifts, when available, do allow players to reach 200%.
  • Having level 2 Nuhoch mastery allows you to use Nuhoch Wallows, which makes traversing back to the 1st and 2nd phase's area much faster.
  • The Ley Line Confluence Waypoint in the Ley Line Confluence is the central waypoint of this meta-event and offers easy navigation back to each of the lanes in case your character gets defeated. It is highly recommended to have this waypoint for the meta-event.
