Wintersday[edit]

Let's be lazy this year, let's just change the left and right image to a Wintersday theme? It's already there, it doesn't involve any random icons, and it appears to be the simplest route. - EndeavorTalk 06:24, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Like how I did it for Halloween (personal css), I would be more than happy to alter the red header and the wiki's logo to something Wintersday. - Infinite - talk 08:24, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
Take a peek at and/or , if you want. You must copy the code into your personal vector/monobook css to preview it, or use some fancy script I have no knowledge of. To me, that is enough decorationfor the holidays. - Infinite - talk 10:07, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
Its probably worth noting that the only line you need to copy from infinite is:
div#column-content
{
 background-image: url(/images/thumb/0/04/User_Infinite_Wintersday_Header.png/1381px-User_Infinite_Wintersday_Header.png);
}
Since the rest is already in the common.css. (Also, using /images/a/a0/User_Chieftain_Alex_skin_header.png instead of infinite's image works too (same image but with transparency on right hand side to avoid blocking stop/starts of cyan. works too --Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:41, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
I hope that was fixed with a recent software update, but back during Halloween, the pre-set theme overrides the personal one, even after various cache clears and stuff (which is why it is all of that). - Infinite - talk 20:17, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
Hmm, even though the exact same lines of code are on the common.css? Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:36, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, it was really weird. It used to overlay the other skin, instead of replace parts of it. :\ - Infinite - talk 21:21, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Guys[edit]

Wintersday is over. Felix Omni Signature.png 20:13, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Well, theres no wintersday theme, so its just the update. Unless you've got a crystal ball handy, wanna think of some random featured article and stick it there? Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:33, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Is Heart of the Mists ready to be featured until we know the January happenings? - Infinite - talk 22:35, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Never mind, definitely too premature to feature the main PvP hub. - Infinite - talk 22:37, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Stick with the previous map of the WvW, or is that Seige pic ok? (personally I like blowing things up) Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:39, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
Definitely works, excellent thinking. :) - Infinite - talk 22:41, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Box Shadow[edit]

Hello, when I made this edit, I had in mind the removal of the line box-shadow:rgba(0,0,0,0.5) 0 0 .75em; from the common.css mainpage styles. The extra table manually puts the shadow on the outside box such that it works in internet explorer (giving it the same appearance as chrome and firefox did before the fix) - putting the shadow on the inside box doesn't work for i.e. (currently you have two shadow effects working on the main page at once - its not subtle :P ) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 01:26, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Add dailies?[edit]

It would be nifty to have the current dailies listed (or linked), sort of similar to how the GW1 wiki lists Nick etc. DryHumour 23:07, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

QUICK! Konig is gone, replace the lore section with the PvE stuff and put dailies in PvE's current location! -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 23:12, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
I was thinking the same thing in regard to dailies, now that they change everyday. I would add monthlies as well. -- User Rohar icon.jpg Rohar (talk|contribs) 22:59, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
The cycle listings were useful for GW1 because there was no easy way to see them in-game other than walking around to all the NPCs. In GW2, all you have to do is log in to any character, and BAM! Dailies are right there on your screen. Also, they aren't completely random - they rotate on a weekly schedule (pending final verification on Monday, but it's holding out so far). No need to clutter the main page with them this time. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 23:10, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
That pre-supposes that you are at your gaming machine (rather than, say, at work ;-) and can log in. It would be nice to have a page with the schedule though, if someone has the time to write it up. DryHumour 23:38, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
How about Daily? —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 00:06, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
Thx, that's exactly what I was looking for! Didn't realize it had already been updated (doh!) DryHumour 00:09, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
How about a link to the Daily on the main page instead of burying it. Please! KJZ 01:11, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

I did really appreciate the convenience factor the front-page Zaishen quests had on GW Wiki. There's something to be said for making information like that very obvious to visitors, and I know personally that logging in with a character only to find out the dailies would be way easier with a different character is a minor annoyance. 66.90.216.233 00:34, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
Register an account, create a userpage, and transclude the daily template onto it, along with whatever other quick-access info you want. Bookmark it. Bam, you win the internet. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:41, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Suggestion[edit]

Shouldn't there be a link back to the main GW2 page on the front page? If it's there, it's insufficiently obvious IMNSHO. --OBloodyHell 19:20, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

I'm much more likely to have the wiki page up, and it would be convenient if I could go directly to the forum or something by clicking something on the left-side navigation. This seems like A Real Good Idea. --OBloodyHell 19:22, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
Lookie over here, I think that solves the problem. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 19:51, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

API Page inclusion[edit]

I have made page for game API, API and i think it should be included on main page.

Quick access links[edit]

Equivalent to gw1:quick access links, which I used to find really helpful for specific links (particularly armour). I'd like to see this in the left navbar, under "Main Page", like on GWW. There are still red links in it, but they should be filled out soon. What do you think? -- pling User Pling sig.png 12:40, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

I didn’t even know this existed! This definitely looks like a good start; not sure if we should repeat the armor stuff all over for every profession (maybe we can group the professions by armor level to begin with), but it’s a good start! I say yes. poke | talk 13:05, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
It was pretty rudmentary and not linked anywhere, so not surprised you didn't see it :P. I attempted to group the profs by armour level but I couldn't think of how to do it. I'll leave that to someone else... maybe someone named poke, I dunno if you know him. -- pling User Pling sig.png 13:29, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

I think it would be more relevant to provide links to weapon types instead of just galleries of them? Also added a few links to the tables. Mediggo (talk) 05:01, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
This is what I meant btw. But there is not really enough profession specific content yet to do that… poke | talk 10:29, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

But yeah, that would work a lot better for the amount of information we currently have. Is there anything else profession-specific we might want to add though? poke | talk 16:37, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
Is there any reason why this needs to be in 3 diffrent boxes? User:Yandere/Sandbox

'Featured Article' Headline[edit]

As with the announcement of Collin (from July 2) about the future of the Living World and the use of the featured article on the main page, maybe the header should be renamed to 'Living World'. 79.206.207.100 20:12, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

maybe but I think we should keep it the featured section because there may be a time where anet wont have living world every 2 weeks. Also I think feature Article is something a lot of wikis do. so in that regard its a continuity thing.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 20:59, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
I disagree and think we should switch it to Living World or some other equivalent header. Featured article projects are supposed to highlight excellent pages that could otherwise go unnoticed. Rarely if ever do the living world meta-pages come close to meeting the criteria for what a featured article should be (to name a few: written by wiki editors [as opposed to copy-pasta of sources], definitive and comprehensive reference on the subject, proper formatting, adequate categorization, appropriately linked and the ability to stand by itself [as opposed to being a long list of links to other pages]).
Also, in regards to "[F]eature[d] Article is something a lot of wikis do." We have, historically and presently, never operated on a "that's how its done elsewhere" philosophy. If the subject/idea in question cannot stand on its own merits, then we shouldn't be using it for other wikis sake. We use good ideas and we reject bad ones, regardless of whether the ideas are original on this wiki or from a different wiki. Aqua (talk) 04:16, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
Also related: the only reason we started a featured article project on GWW was due to ANet's promise that they'd be integrated into the guildwars.com website as a way to showcase good articles and increase wiki traffic (spoilers, it never happened). -Auron 04:28, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
@Aqua the idea behind making them featured pages was so that they would get more traffic and in effect get more polish and become desired articles. ill respond more in-deepth when I have gotten some sleep tomorrow.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 00:41, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
It makes sense to switch this to Living World for now since there was never a large initiative to put forward featured articles and we've been using it to provide access to current content available from release.--Relyk ~ talk < 00:54, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
Zesbeer: No, the original intent of “featured articles” was indeed to promote well written articles not only on the wiki but also on the official website as Auron mentioned. The term “featured article” was just carried over from GWW although it was clear that no page would reach the quality of a featured article any time soon. poke | talk 18:14, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
@Poke if you read the talk page for the feature project you will see that I mentioned that as an intention for the project.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 18:26, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
The section's name should reflect the section's function. We are not following any sort of a "featured article" program/project as there is no longer any independent choice of which articles to feature; instead we are always featuring the current Living World release. Thus, the title of the section should be updated to reflect this shift in function. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 18:28, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Latest In-Game Activities[edit]

Can we get a section of the main page dedicated to "Latest In-Game Activities", like the one that's on the Guild Wars 1 Wiki? http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page

Perhaps showing what the dailies and monthlies are, what current minigame is being offered(Keg Brawl, Survival, Sanctum Sprint, etc), and what releases with temporary content are currently active (like how Bazaar and Cut-throat Politics were both active) and when release date for the next release is.

I am new to wiki-editing, so I am not sure how one would go about doing this. Is this possible? Is this something other people would be interested in?

We don't need to for the daily/monthly because you can access that from directly in-game. We still manage the schedule on the Daily page. The same reasoning goes for the activities, you can easily view them in the achievements panel. The activities also don't offer much monetary rewards apart from achievement points. They are muddled together with permanent activities, but they don't change often so we can list that on the Activities article. A link to activity or the achievement category would be sufficient. The release content is something being discussed, as per the section above this.--Relyk ~ talk < 22:00, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
I think the OP makes a reasonable point. The activities are on a daily rotation now, and you can't tell which one is today without going to the NPC in LA. While it's true that the dailies and monthlies are readily accessible in-game, it's potentially useful to know which ones are up before logging in, e.g. to pick which character to log into or to determine if you even want to daily today. On the other hand, there's a lot of dailies (what are we up to, 13 now?) so it may not be worth that much Main Page space to list them all. Still, it's certainly not an idea to dismiss out of hand. - Tanetris (talk) 22:29, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
It's not out of hand, it was discussed previously on whether we wanted to put the daily/monthly on the main page.--Relyk ~ talk < 22:39, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
It was. However, consensus is not engraved in stone, particularly when circumstances change, and activities going on daily rotation is certainly a changed situation. We now have something that changes regularly that is nontrivial to find out the state of in-game. That is worth a fresh discussion. - Tanetris (talk) 23:14, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
The current daily activity is definitely something that would be worth mentioning, but also worth documentating (we don’t do it yet). I’ve caught myself twice yet to check in-game which activity is currently available (not interested in Crab Toss :P), and that involves running to an NPC in Lion’s Arch, so it’s quite the effort to take.
About the dailies, I’m not too sure simply because there are so many! If we can present them in a very concise way though, I would welcome that on the main page as well. poke | talk 23:58, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
I mentally split the daily into passive/activities, combat, and wvw, it would be somewhat concise in three rows like that. Also, am I mistaken in the daily activity isn't reflected in the achievement panel?--Relyk ~ talk < 00:31, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
There is just a single achievement called “Daily Activity Participation” which is rewarded for any activity (including the permanent ones). The only way to see what the daily activity from the rotation is, is to go to the NPC… :/ poke | talk 00:41, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
I started a table at Talk:Daily#Daily_activity to record the activities with the goal of determining whether there is a predictable cycle or not. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:40, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

(Reset indent) if not a table displaying data from Daily, a link to it from the mainpage would be good... (idk what section it would go in though. >.>) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 09:32, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

a critical note bout the front page[edit]

I want to ask you all to look at the front page and think if you are really happy with it. For most common wiki-editors we pass it every day. But it got me thinking, I don't use it a lot. When I amm here as a player (in need of info), I directly go to the search box. When I'm here as an editor I do the same. The main page should be for new players mainly, but I do feel we didn't pay much attention to it. So I have taken some time to go through all and got some recommendations. Please comment bout what you think is not a good idea. Also additions of your own are very welcome. We are almost one year on the way. I will change the edit/copy version in a few days, but before I start and things might get lost in the changes, I wanted to put down my plans here so you all can criticize it and I can keep the (possible) controversial things out of it till we meet consensus about it.

 • Featured article

This is still showing as a featured pages project while it is only used for the new releases. Maybe replace the small links at the bottom with a link to release and change the title to 'last release'.

 • News and updates

This brought me here. on the template talk page I discussed bout the more news link. Someone was kind enough to place an outdated mark, but I do think the more news-link should be gone from the front page till someone is making the archive living again.

 • game basics

Remove the line bout squad (or also add party and Friends) Maybe it is desirable to add a link to the official youtube [video].

 • Gear & inventory

I would change The line Black Lion Trading Company to Commerce and have two listed things under it called Black Lion Trading Company, Vendor and Currency

 • Player vs. Environment

Remove from overview the links to Karma, Laurels and Token. none of these are limited to PvE and as being currency it is better listed on Gear and inventory. Cause there are other currency's I suggest to put only a currency link there.

 • Player vs. Player

I do not like PvP and don't know enough bout it. This segment looks short in my opinion. Maybe a link to to the official ranking page might be interesting, as well as info to the invitational tournaments

 • Lore and Wiki Community

Those two look fine to me So please comment. Hopefully my thoughts are helpfull and combined with yours, in a few days we can present a new proposal to refresh the mainpage for the anniversary. Ranique (talk) 22:39, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

anyone is welcome to get that page up to date and maintain it. instead of just saying someone else needs to do it, be the change that you want to see.

I would keep the main section of that be Black Lion Trading Company also vender is under items in that section already.
 • pvp

Just did it. To prevent that people would miss out details I wanted to discuss it first. Zesbeer: I do not think that having BL trading company in a header is making things very clear. What do you think bout my proposal?. If you still think it should be in a header can you please explain why??. The only thing I'm missing are the dungeon tokens. But currently there is no good overview page. Tokens got them removed. Naming all by one is a bit too much. Maybe a special page bout dungeon rewards (listing the tokens and links to the gallery's with armor weapons). I'll think bout it ;) Ranique (talk) 13:13, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
@Ranique "anyone is welcome to get that page up to date and maintain it. instead of just saying someone else needs to do it, be the change that you want to see." I didn't mean completely remove the link to the page. On that note: "I think this link still needs to be there, or else the page that allows us to update the article will disappear from the main view." -User:Vahkris so I think that Previous Living World updatesPropose next article needs to stay as is along with adding back the more news. also I think that the living world summary page gives people more information and is more wiki centered then the release page that seems to just link to the gw2 website (not that that's entirely a bad thing) Other then those issues I don't have any other issues with your changes.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 16:54, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
Hey Zes, After posting (while making dinner) I realised I should react to you bout the news-archive. My issue with the news-section is not that it is out of date, but more that it is linked from the frontpage. I am not a constant contributor to the wiki. Sometimes I just don't have time for several weeks in a row. Besides that, my personal interest lies more in being helpfull to others then to gather news. I also agree with your pleed for people who have the right interest to keep that page up to date. But it is (almost) a year since it was updated. If in the future someone starts It should be instant returned to the frontpage, but till then my opinion is to keep the page but loose the link from the frontpage. As for the living story/featured article. At the moment we only do living story, so I don't see how people should be promoted to propose a new article. If it is needed to help editors find it to edit the next listed item I would propose to change the name of the link to reflect that more. Lastly bout the link to release or to Living World summary. I think both have advantages. For new players the summary is better to understand the lore and the story bout what is going on. For the more experienced player, the release page is quicker to get to the info you want to find. Ranique (talk) 19:06, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
I went ahead and changed the basic structure. I think as the game moved forward this is probably a more flexible structure for new stuff they are adding. - Yandere Talk to me... 21:34, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
First glance to it: Wow. I'll look into the details tomorrow, but I like the concept of leaving old structures behind. Could this proposal be advertised in e.g. Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Community portal. This refreshing change would be a nice 1 year anniversary gift to the game and the community.Ranique (talk) 05:04, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I would like to see some other peoples prospective.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 21:47, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

“[living world summary] is more wiki centered then the release page” – In my opinion, the release pages should contain the lore / tell the story that happened in that “chapter”. It’s a fault of the release pages that they contain mostly overview stuff and links to the documentationary articles of the story (instance documentations etc.) poke | talk 19:22, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

Suggestion re Geography[edit]

The main page could use a "Geography" section linking to each of the major regions of Tyria pages -- Shiverpeaks, Orr, Maguma Jungle, Kryta, Ascalon etc., as well as any secondary areas (Southsun Cove, etc.)... You can get to these pages via other means but this really is, I'd suggest, top level information.

Tyria is linked under Lore and provides navigation to the regions.--Relyk ~ talk < 05:55, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
its kind of a pity that we don't link to any leaflet.js maps.. (or have any final versions) - I guess that was due to heavily accessing the api? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 12:39, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
I still suggest it should be a top-level entry... "Geography" or something of the sort. I don't see why anyone new to the game would think to look under "Lore". It's clearly essential information of at least as much, and probably more, importance as "Professions" or other things you have at the highest level. At the very least, "Geography" should be an entry under "Map": ▪ Explorable zones ▪ Cities ▪ Home instance ▪ Asura gates ▪ Jumping puzzles ▪ Geography which then leads you to a page akin to the Geography section of Tyria_(world), but with much more summary detail of the specifics... --OBloodyHell (talk) 21:39, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

New structure[edit]

I hope this gets implemented on the actual main page pretty soon. Been waiting for those large, empty gaps disappear quite long now. Yandere's and everyone else's contribution is excellent imho. Mediggo (talk) 19:26, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

whats up with the link to Extended Experience? its a 2 line page linking to another page about a phone app that isn't being developed. it shouldn't be there imo. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 23:24, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
That article could be improved to include description of API and perhaps give examples of possible uses, such as fetching recipes, monitoring events and WvW and additional Mumble support. Most players don't need to know anything about API itself, but pretty much everyone can benefit from the applications. Mediggo (talk) 09:09, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
Why don't you just copy the GW1 structure. GW2 wiki is far inferior for providing useful info. So what times are the halloween events and how deep do I have to go? It is only 2 steps on the GW1 wiki struture. Guess the wiki control freaks won the GW2 wiki wars.98.242.93.53 11:29, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
From what I've seen, the Your Mad King says... seems to occur similiar to most events, which is somewhat randomly, but based on timer. And, since I'm assuming you're referring to to lack of any mention of the other current release on the main page, that could indeed by fixed by simply adding a small picture and link of previously most recent release if it's still "live". Mediggo (talk) 05:55, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
@ Mediggo - I like how you've linked to the previous release.
@Relyk - I prefer mediggo's version, but yours temporarily will do the job on the mainpage. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 13:05, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Link Shifting going on Main page[edit]

Not sure if this is related to the IE11 update I just got or not. But when I hover over most of the links in certain sections (the middle sections don't seem effected), all the links in that section shift to the left of the section, instead of staying in their current position. (UPDATE) actually effecting the following sections: Basics, Economy, Exploring the World, and History and Lore. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 99.7.85.62 (talkcontribs).

It is probably a browser-specific issue. Could you possibly upload a screenshot? You would need to create an account to do so on the wiki, but you could just use imgur or something. Felix Omni Signature.png 21:05, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

Internet Explorer being bad started being less true starting with IE8 and certainly stopped when IE10 came out. All other opinions are just that: opinions.
The browsers currently that are currently bad are mobile stock browsers like iOS’ Safari and Android’s non-Chrome based stock browser. poke | talk 11:05, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Escape from Lion's Arch[edit]

It has been out for over a day and Edge of the Mists is still on the front page. If we want there to be a chance of players editing the wiki and filling in event information in a timely manner, we need to make stuff like this visible as soon as possible. If the front page is still out of date a day after the patch hits, the critical mass of edits will be lost and players will continue to default to other sites. 58.110.61.196 07:23, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

The headline of the living world section is still "Edge of teh Miste" although there is already a small article about "Escape from Lion's Arch". Balwin (talk) 18:07, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

not a fan[edit]

I am not a huge fan of (the story so far...) link I feel like the 'All releases' link at the bottom of that section is enough though it could be renamed and that the link disrupts the eye flow of the rest of the main page.I also feel that the 'Wikki's Official Guide to Tyria' is over the top and too much, it feels to folksy instead of professional.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 18:09, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

I agree, it looks very out of place to have parentheses and a link in that header. But also agree with making the existing link more prominent. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 18:14, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) I don't think the huge link at the top is an ideal solution either, but I definitely don't think the page as it currently stands is adequate. At the time of writing there are one, two, three threads on the first page of the Living World forum about communicating the living world story, not to mention the numerous reddit posts and forum threads asking for a catchup. That's something that the wiki absolutely can and should be doing something about, and making that information more accessible to players. --Santax (talk · contribs) 18:19, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
that can still be done in other means that do no disrupt the flow of the main page. like makeing the all release link bigger and remaining it to living world recap or something. any thoughts on your 'Wikki's Official Guide to Tyria' change? because I dont like that change either.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 18:27, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

Well we've already got a link to the living world summary under "lore". sticking it in the section title is just obnoxious, but perhaps we can figure out a neater way to get it at the bottom of the living world section. agree with zesbeer on the official wiki strapline too. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 23:08, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I'd say more of a full revert, but okay :P So what do we propose for making this more visible? We could replace the ← Previous: Battle for Lion's Arch: Aftermath on with All releases and the All releases in the middle with Living World recap, but would that be visible enough? What I don't want to happen is for this to get left, since the current page is not doing a good enough job. --Santax (talk · contribs) 16:15, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Yawn[edit]

It's all a bit bland, isn't it? Apart from the one picture in the living world box, it's all just words. Wouldn't it be nice if some artistic type could add a little graphic to each heading to break the monotony a bit? Who's the current LordBiro these days?

lol. The trouble is that, unlike gww, most of the icons and images on this wiki have whacking great backgrounds on them :/ If you felt like finding some icons that you want the backgrounds knocked out of, I could do that + see how it looks. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 12:54, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
Hehe, fame at last! In retrospect, GW2 doesn't have a wealth of iconography (is that a word?) - and the icons that do exist have already been nicely tango'd and aren't really suitable. Ah well, just a thought. If anyone pops up who can make suitable, original-yet-recognisably-GW2ish icons, that would be super. Not holding my breath - it's a big ask (and I can hear all the copyright arguments already), but it would be awesome. — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 13:12, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

It'd be cool if Stephane could chuck us some of the halloween art on a layered .psd file just like the ones in the media asset pack so that we can get a few cutout "heroes + villains" for the front page. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:28, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

Current Events[edit]

Perhaps a header at the top of the Main Page for Current Events, which now would contain a link to Mordremoth's Minions Invade Tyria, and be updated as necessary.

The game update doesn't indicate if it's a major update or a minor update for the last major update. Minor updates are typically trivial.--Relyk ~ talk < 01:32, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
That's why I've been arguing for months that we should restructure the game update pages to "one page per major update" instead of our current "new page for every calendar date that had an update no matter how insignificant it was." —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:44, 19 October 2015 (UTC)

This page needs overhauling[edit]

Hi guys. I admit I don't use the main page to navigate, ever, but I think we need to have a think about what the categories should be, which pages are actually useful, and what is missing. I'd quite like to start with a list of pages that we each find useful references and work from there back to what should be here. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 16:22, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

Thinking as a visitor and not editor, the main pages I need when I go on wiki is the Timeline page (for lore), armor/weapon prefix, and then misc achievement pages. As a wiki editor, RecentChanges and category:maintenance. -Darqam (talk) 18:51, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
Yeah Prefix is an odd omission. The meta event timer is the only thing I use frequently that's already there.
In terms of the section labels, the top row (Living World, News & updates) is okay, the middle row has some clunkers (Gameplay, Economy), and the bottom row seems to be fusing lore and maps together. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:59, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
I think the main page could use a massive upgrade in the amount of information you could find directly by clicking its links instead of just searching. Think the quick links page. I've tried to organize the layout a bit more than it was but it did not prove very fruitful at all. The best one is the Economy category imo, but it is named weird, and should include links to 'Prefix' and 'Equipment acquisition by stats'("Exotic equipment acquisition by attributes") and 'Ascended equipment' ("Ascended equipment acquisition by attributes") (currently a bit hidden to find if you don't know the pages exist), also the recently updated ascended pages could be linked here. A lot of these pages are not even useful, for example 'Player versus Environment'. Some of this stuff appears to have been written based on pre-launch promotion material. --Neok (talk) 20:44, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
The French wiki uses Basics, Items and Equipment, PvE, PvP, World, and Wiki. German wiki has a different layout and puts all the World/Lore stuff under PvE which is the cleanest I guess. Maybe use that layout but keep the top row the same as it is now! --Neok (talk) 21:41, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
I think we could also use a few official images for some of the sections, similar to the German wiki. —Ventriloquist 22:07, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
How about mentioning /wiki? Also it might be useful to look at the list of most popular pages, if we can get that info. -- Dagger (talk) 23:09, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

Wintersday images[edit]

Hey wiki. Stephane sorted out some Wintersday images for the wikis from their content partners. The four available images are:

I picked two of them and stuck them on the main page. I realise they don't fit with the style of the old art, but let's face it, neither did the Path of Fire images. You'll see the french wiki has used the other two images. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:35, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

Main page broken?[edit]

First time posting here, and as an IP, can't edit the talk page of the main page itself, but seems like something's busted the main page layout in the last couple of days. Not sure if it's intentional or not, but it has gone very funky - for example, the "Featured Article" type piece at the top now goes all the way across, instead of stopping part way across and having other boxes next to it. Net result is that the page is now ridiculously long compared to how it used to be (it used to be similar in length to the GW1 wiki main page, now it's about twice as long) and it's a pain in the butt having to scroll all the way down any time I want to access something.

If this is an intentional change, as a reader (not an editor) I vote for reverting back to the old one, or at least giving those of us who prefer the shorter, easier to navigate version an "alternate" main page that continues to use the old layout. 76.22.92.175 03:44, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

It's not broken, we are indeed trying out a new design and collecting feedback on it. Can I ask what device you're using to read the wiki? - Felix Omni 04:04, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
Just a laptop using Firefox, 1920 x 1080. And good to know it's intentional :) While I personally prefer the old design, at least nothing broke :) 76.22.92.175 04:52, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

"Current special event"[edit]

"Special events" generally do not happen during festivals or at the start of most LWS releases. That part should be reworked to include more, or removed. It will be blank for about ~55% of the year. --— Cronos 07:42, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
