Images[edit]

I noticed you have been uploading NPC images. Sadly I saw some GUI on your pictures. I am a screenshooter too and I know how hard it is to grab a good picture without the GUI, or it used to be hard. Then I discovered <ctrl><shift><H>. It makes the whole user interface go away, so as long as you haven't targeted the guy you are taking a picture of, you'll get no GUI! I wish someone had shared this trick with me months ago. Anyways I hope this info is helpful to you. Thanks for being a contributor! Yoe Dude 17:09, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Well, I know this. But I normally don't take screenshots to upload them here and so I don't want to fiddle around with showing/hiding the GUI while I playing the game. I upload pictures for the story line from the summary (where the GUI is not in the way) and I know all my screnn shots from NPCs are not in any acceptable quality, so I don't upload them. The only exception was the recent upload for Kiplr and I did this only because I removed the links to the pictures you uploaded and I wanted to show that these named pirates look different than the generic pictures you had provided. So I uploaded this picture despite being not a good NPC image by any means. Balwin 11:19, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

m or min[edit]

Just asking because I have seen you edits. The correct SI short form for minutes is "min", but if the game uses "m" (which would be meters in SI) that is also ok. I would always prefer to use the ingame information, even it is technically not correct. - Yandere Talk to me... 14:12, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

Well, I don't know, if the game always uses 'm' for minutes in the description of consumables, but while I edited the sharpening stones, I suddenly realised that my screenshot shows 'm' and not 'min' and my last remaining screenshot of a potion also shows 'm'. So I think the ingame descriptions always abbreviate minutes with 'm' ... so at one point all th epotions and consumable should be checked and changed to 'm' for the time statement in minutes. We actually do, or rather, we would. We can't, however, because they were removed. We keep those that we saw during the BWEs, when they existed on the loading screens, but don't bother with the template in the story steps we never documented the quote for. So basically, if there's text then keep it for posterity's sake, but if it was added empty and remains empty, remove it. Konig 18:15, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

I know we had these quotes back during beta (I was around here during that time, too :)), but because ArenaNet removed these quotes already with the official release, I see no reason to keep them, because they didn't exists anymore when the game officially started. Now we have the situation that very few of these pages have a quote and most don't. Additionally I think some of these quotes are just added afterwards just to have a quote. That particular quote (from Misplaced Faith) is a) just the first sentence from the My Story summary and b) I watched the video reference given when the page was created and that video already doesn't show any quotes. But in the end, we can keep it that way (even when I think the quotese are useless (especially this one)) but maybe there could be a discussion o0f interested people how to handle these old quotes in general on a more prominent page than my user talk page :) Balwin (talk) 07:44, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
We keep a lot of old information as historical trivia. When dialogues change, we keep the old dialogue; we denote when (and where) NPCs were in different locations; we have an entire category for historical content. It's something the wiki does because while Person A doesn't find it worthwhile, Person B would.
Now, if the case for that was that the quote's text wasn't from the loading screen then it would indeed be right to remove it - that would be a case of improper format, not removed/changed text. Konig 21:11, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
I'm going to have to disagree Konig. When it's already in the personal story summary, there's no point in having the quote at the top of the page. I don't see how historical content is related to keeping the quotations, the page history provides that service for us. In regards to formatting, I don't like quotations that add nothing to the article for the sake of having quotations. That seems to be the case for most personal story pages and I'd rather remove them.--Relyk ~ talk < 22:02, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
It doesn't bother me in the slightest whether we keep them or not, but you guys might find it useful to have a list of the pages affected by this decision (there aren't very many). I have taken the liberty of removing blank quotation templates.

Relyk, I think you should re-read the last sentence I said.
The loading screen quotations were unique to the individual instances, and were not part of the story journal while still implemented. Usually, the loading screens described the location, sometimes described what you're going to do (being in present or future tense), while story journal entries are always what was done (being in past tense). So it would be highly odd for them to be the same. If they are the same, then I could see the argument of not duplicating the text. I did not look to see if it was, and started this section not for the specific situation but in general. Konig 03:42, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
I simply don't find the quotations that used to be on a loading screen a reason to stick them on the page. It's easy to move quotations to the summary since the quotation is literally an introduction itself.--Relyk ~ talk < 05:02, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

(Reset indent) As far as I see, we have two topics here. A) Should we keep these quotes from the loading screens from the early beta phase? Like Konig pointed out, they really were unique and about the specific instances. But for me these quotes were removed before the official start of the game and keeping them creates the inconsistent situation that a few story pages have these quotes and vast majority don't. On the other hand if people are interested in these, it doesn't really hurt to keep them. But then we have the topic B) Should we investigate if the story pages currently having these quotes do really have the quotes from the loading pages or just some other stuff added for the sake to have a quote? False quotes should be removed. I don't think there is any argument on that, though it seems some folks think there is. Original quotes should be kept in some form. If it's worth compromising, I'm fine with moving them to the trivia section. I just don't want to see then gone. Konig 16:58, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
How about this: We keep the quotes the way they are, but we add a comment or a note that these quotes are from instance loading screens from early beta phases and are not in the game anymore. But I don't know the best way how to do it or to phrase it. Balwin (talk) 06:54, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

Wet Work story changes[edit]

Hi Balwin, I noticed this edit that you made to Wet Work. I added the verify to the reward template Template:Reward/Forming the Pact/3 since although I have confirmed the rewards for Wet Work, I haven't confirmed the rewards for any of the parallel missions (Munition Acquisition / To The Core / Volcanic Extraction / Fixing the Blame). These missions share the reward templates so — although it appears to just be 3 bags of loot for every choice dependent mission reward — the confirmation needed isn't for Wet Work but the parallel rewards do need checking.
