Upgrade slot[edit]

I don't know how much you have on your plate right now, but if you get time, pretty much all of these items need to be converted to the item stat template instead of listing them separately. If you have plenty of stuff to do that's cool, I just thought that you went through and cleaned up my earlier stuff, you'd probably be really good at it by now, while I'm working on putting up the other 36 sets of Cultural armors. Updating templates etc[edit]

Armor infobox[edit]

You reverted my changes to armor infobox, so I wanted to msg you before editing it again. Wombatt asked we get rid of the "fall back" text for no description, because a lot of armor doesn't have descriptions and it just looks ugly. Is there a reason we need it?

The move function is only available to "autoconfirmed" users, and there is a certain threshold (either a time period since registering or a number of edits) you have to meed before becoming autoconfirmed. Storyline Templates[edit]

Hi there, I saw you updated the storyline templates for the different orders. I was just wondering if you knew whether the Grawl, Hylek, etc.. sections were actually different for each Order or if the Order's quests merely lead into a distinct Grawl storyline common for all players. The page on Racial sympathy indicates that "Player races do not influence the storyline aside from choices available (e.g., a human choosing skritt and a charr choosing skritt will follow the same path)." That is indeed a good question. I don't know actually. My story obviouslly started and ended at the Vigil Keep, but the Warmaster which accomanied me was not really involved in the whole plot. During the whole stoyline I felt like a Vigil representative so I just assumed it was a Vigil story. So you could be right. I played the Hylek story and was a Sylvari perhaps you know someone how joined a diffrent order, so we can analyse the plot, and see if it was any diffrent. - Yandere Talk to me... 09:23, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
I'm not quite that far along with my character yet. I think it would make sense if they were distinct, if only to reduce 15 story branches (Vigil-Grawl, Whispers-Grawl, Priory-Grawl, Vigil-Hylek, etc ...) combinations down to just 5. It would've been simpler for the developers to confine choices to the immediate storyline section, as they've done distinguishing the Order from the Race. - Vedrfolnir 09:42, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
Not sure about that. You can write the plot pretty easy so that you just swap out some character models, words and dialog lines. In fact I would say it is easier to just have 5 difrent story braches with slight modifications for each order. - Yandere Talk to me... 12:30, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

map icon templates on topic pages[edit]

I removed your addition of the map icon template to the vista/waypoint/etc. articles for two reasons: 1) The only benefit of the template (besides being simpler) is that it adds a link to the page that the icon identifies, which in this case, is a self-link to the page that you put it on; 2) Having a simple file link on these pages gives us an easy way to access the actual file, since we're going to be using the template everywhere else. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:29, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

App localization[edit]

Hey Yandere, I hope this news doesn't make you cut my head off and take it on your nice boat with you, but Poke has started doing the German localization for the app since he was already collaborating with me and he's a native German as well. Each language that will be supported has its own values directory in the res directory (I haven't added Spanish or French yet). The default values is English, and the one Poke added is values-de; the suffix is how Android knows which resources to load based on the system locale. Ah, I see. Actually I would only translate on thing diffrently, which doesn't mean it is wrong german, but I think you would usually read something like this:

The app allows the user to choose which of the four official wikis they want to view- English (currently doesn't work though), German, French, or Spanish. This choice is independent from the app's UI language, which Android automatically sets based on the device's locale. Hearts and Jumping Puzzle[edit]

I delete those section because on Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Projects/Cartography there was a discussion about standardizing layout for explorable zones. The result is the location table which holds most information important for the zone including hearts and jumping puzzles, so it makes these subsections obsolete. These guidelines can be seen here Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Location formatting with Quetzal Bay and Caledon Forest as example implementations of this standard.
So it wasn't basiclly not my idea but I was also part of the discussion and could agree to this standard, and I try to incorporate this on the explorable zone pages, which is why I delete those subsections. Anyway this doesn't mean that these guidelines are set in stone. You can join the Project and bring your viewpoints in. Everything answered? - Yandere Talk to me... 23:06, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
It only makes those subsections obsolete when the correct formatting has been implemented. Until then, people actually looking for the jumping puzzle and heart info on those pages will be lost with the information missing. Eternity Recipe[edit]

I just checked the history for the Eternity page and it says Relyk published the recipe. I asked him and he told me he just copied it from the Legendary Weapon page. I checked the history for that page and you seem to have been the first to add that in. I've kept close track on all the legendary research and I haven't seen that info anywhere. To be clear, we know that Eternity is made with Twilight and Sunrise from a developer video but I haven't seen any info to suggest that it uses a Gift of Mastery/Fortune. Those details seem to have first appeared in one of your edits. I'm gonna remove it as speculation if you have no objections.Strill 07:22, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
I added a {{verify}} tag, I don't see the point in removing it as we know it exist, we know it has to be made in the forge because it's a legendary weapon and it takes 2 unique items, and all legendary weapons follow the same pattern.--Relyk 07:47, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

All Mystic forge recipes require you to fill all four slots in the forge, so no it's not made with just Sunrise and Twilight.Strill 01:52, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
It's not breaking the pattern of a legendary weapon, Heart of Mellaggan is a mystic weapon that doesn't use weapon components for creation. It breaks the pattern of creating legendary weapons from tier 6 crafting components, but not the possible pattern for any legendary weapon.--Relyk 02:04, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Also Eternity...[edit]

While we're on the subject, I notice you changed List of weapon sets a while ago so that it incorporated the table from Legendary weapon. Sadly, Eternity is treated as a special case there and doesn't appear in the list, so it doesn't appear on the other page at all. Would you say the best thing to do is to add it to the list on the LW page, foregoing the special box, or manually add it (complete with special box) to the "list of weapon sets"page? Starting tutorial area[edit]

If its name is "starting tutorial area" in the game, then how can the compass say Hall of Memories when there'd be no other means to tell the area's name is starting tutorial area? There is obviously a big ass inconsistency issue here. Konig/talk

You see I wasn't really sure how to handle this... it is called starting tutorial area or starting island by the Master of Travel, the compass says Hall of Momentum, so i is technical a part of the Hall of Momentum. Weapon sets categorization[edit]

speargun and harpoon[edit]

I had previously removed those from the weapon infobox because we don't need to encourage their use. They only increase the confusion that Anet has already caused by not being consistent with their weapon names. Shortbow was even more fun, it came in "Shortbow", "shortbow", "Short bow", "short bow" and of course "Short Bow". I usually do not capitilize parameter names, but sometimes I do out of habit. I've become rather vehement about transcluding pages because it makes them hard to edit. Consensus was to treat the PoIs as the actual structure, so I can only get so mad about it. As players will definitely navigate to tower in search and that's what is linked in structure, we're not saving those precious clicks by sticking the tables on individual tower pages.--Relyk ~ talk > 22:48, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
Actually I like subpages. Keeps things central and if you have to edit something it is only one page. This is of course only interesting when you want to repeat information.
As I said, my first concern was it to get things started in this part of the wiki. I am done with the Green Borderlands now.
The main reason why I would want to keep the tables is because some other person put them there and it seems like something many people would expect on this page. People don't know what they want we the look for information. People actually want information about any tower, which is evident by the fact it's a subpage of Tower and not the location article. In that, I could rephrase your first sentence as: "Actually I like the Tower page. My point was that I understand the idea to decentralize informations and if you do this subpages are the way to go.

Arguing about this with you is much better than anons that bitch that they can't find information though D: The point I'm trying to make is that people are using subpages as templates. In reality, that information isn't going change often and will only affect about 5 pages. Well, we have 24 towers, 24 supply camps, and 12 keeps. So we have a bit more than 5 pages. The question is should a page which is about the specific structure should hold the generic upgrade information for every structure of this type? And I am seriously not sure about this. We have for example some vendor pages where a generic vendor subpage is listed because many vendors sell the same stuff. Or take the bulk ingrediance for example. Every master chef sells the same bulk ingreadiance, so should this stuff be repeated in the buk ingreadiance section of a location or not.
We have a lot of redundant information in this wiki which isn't bad, redundacy can be a very good thing. As I said I am really not sure about this. - Yandere Talk to me... 11:10, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
I wrote a tl;dr about how and why the inventory template is implemented. But then I noticed we already had the tower implemented in the template as {{inventory|Quartermaster tower}}. So I think someone copypasted then split up the table to stick on the area page and you just moved the table around. We can stick a upgrades table for the tower; then on individual tower pages, tell player to talk to the Quartermaster for upgrades. We just need a table for supply camps and keeps. I actually meant using a switch statement for the zone parameter, but it doesn't list zone on npc infobox. We would have to add a zone parameter. The other option is to make a switch statement for location parameter and categorize all locations in WvW into the category.
Here's something to look forward to, where we don't need to set the zone parameter, primarily because the area infobox does that already. There will be a simple solution where we set Property:Located in SMW property for areas, so [[Is located in::{{{location}}}]] returns "World versus world", which we can use to then categorize it.--Relyk ~ talk > 09:59, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Siege weapons[edit]

Is there a reason why you are removing helpful extra information from the articles? As far as I am aware, Dagger spent a lot of time organizing the articles in a usable way, so it would be nice if you could discuss the changes with him. Thanks! poke | talk 10:35, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

Ah ok, I was not aware of this. Basiclly I was searching for infomation, and realized that this place was pretty unorganized. I found infomation about the Bluprints in the article of the siege weapon. Found information about the siege weapon in the bluprint article, but no information about the blueprint itself etc.
I see the use of extra information, but I wanted to break every article down to a basic struction of information, that should definitly be in the article, to get an overview what exactly is missing. So a blueprint article should have basic information about the blueprint, a superiour blueprint article should have the reciepe how to construct this thing etc. The basic blueprints are missing an aquisition section for example.
As I said additional information is a good thing, but currently there is some basic infomation missing.

Removing the word "Signet" from skill descriptions[edit]

Hello :) Is there a technical reason why you have been removing the word "Signet" from the descriptions of such skills? It is, after all, exactly what the tooltip says, and also a handy link to the Signet page for the user's convenience. --Alad (talk) 18:40, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

Basiclly because of consitancy. Most Signet skills didn't had the word 'Signet' there only a few of them.
I considered the idea of leaving it in because it makes it easier to reach the signet page, but every signet has the 'signet skill type' which links to the signet page already so i dicided to go with the mayority of skills.
But know you said something interesting. Is the tooltip information inconsitent through out the game. Or has every Signet skill the word 'Signet' before 'passive' and 'active'? - Yandere Talk to me... 21:00, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

That's not the skill type, it's the description. The skill type isn't on the signet skill tooltips like it is on other skills, because the word signet is already in the description. If you want to consider "Signet Active" and "Signet Passive" as two skill types for signet skills, then you should better remove the words Active and Passive from the infoboxes too, according to your rules. I actually don't see why the tooltip text shouldn't be copied word for word. Do you have a good reason for omitting that first word on every tooltip? Is it to save a few bytes?
And yes, Yandere, every signet skill for every class has the words "Signet Active" and "Signet Passive" on their tooltips, I just checked it. Someone has just been removing the word signet from some skills here. --Alad (talk) 02:02, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

We use the skill description to define the skill type. We just decided to separate the skill type from the rest of the description (by us, I mean before me). It makes complete sense to have skill type separate from the game description, I don't know why Anet chose to stick the skill type in the description in the first place.--Relyk ~ talk < 03:11, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

The skill type is already shown in the infobox, and we leave it out of the description to avoid duplication. It's not actually part of the skill description, it's just concatenated with it for display in the skill's tooltip so that it looks like a single string. For most skill types, this isn't a problem.
Signets are different. I *suspect* that the passive and active descriptions are two separate strings, and the "Signet Passive:"/"Signet Active:" lead-ins are, again, concatenated with those strings for display. So again, the "Signet" part there is not actually part of the description, so we can leave it out, but we have to keep the "Passive"/"Active" identifiers. What would make sense to me is to leave all the text in the tooltip there. One word for every skill tooltip isn't that much duplication, and helps in two ways: To reinforce the info that this skill belongs to a certain family of skills (and yes, even if that info is in the infobox), and it provides a link within the description, to the skill type page. Given that this description is frequently generated, using the {{skill}} template, on other related pages, having that linked word on the description is definitely a plus. Finally, I believe the big "" quotes, and signatures saying "--In-game description", need to be respected by faithfully duplicating the tooltip, which is the only in-game description and reference that we have. Duplication isn't bad unless it's excessive. In this case, I believe it's beneficial.
(As a side discussion, Ishmael, it could make perfect sense to me, as the coloring of the tooltip text for signets suggests, that they're in fact made up of two different and related skill types: The "Signet Passive" skill type provides a constant buff which is interrupted by the activation and cooldown of its sister skill, and the "Signet Active" skill type is a normal type of skill which does its thing when activated and disables its sister skill.) --Alad (talk) 21:04, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

Map icons[edit]

I totally missed the discussion that you linked, I will look through it by time. The diffrent icon templates got kind of problematic because they all used diffrent formating and it became kind of strange. I moved everything to the map icon template because most icons I moved in there are in fact also map icons and this was basiclly the biggest icon template anyway. The dialoge icons were a bit odd, but basiclly follow the same use in this wiki as Ishmael said on the map icon talk page. A general 20px icon template for all 20px icons we use in this wiki would be ideal in my opinion.
I totally see why the dialog icons are strang in the map icon template and you can basiclly still call the old dialoge icon I just wanted to make sure these icons follow an identical formating. Because an event icon should behave diffrent than a dialog icon when called. A this discussion. That was bafore I went into my hiatus, that's why I basiclly didn't remember the thing anymore. Actually our ideas are not so diffrent the diffrence is that I stick with the original templates event icon, dialog icon gathering icon etc. and let them call the master template (which became map icon and yeah it is not a good name for that what it does. It was the fastest solution I could came up with becaue it is really jarring that two icon templates which should work identical do infact do not work identical. It is not that I want to replace event icons I jsut want that these templates call a master template for consistent icon use in the wiki. I already made a master list like you did. Poke pointed out that a master template (master list) makes stuff harder to edit. I found I agreed with him as I worked on the icons. I'm perfectly fine working with a giant list and then implement other templates off it, but it makes it much harder for less experienced editors and more complicated to change. You also have to address all the possible name types. My preferred approach is using the icon template for standard formatting, then having "groups" of icons for generating the icons. I have it worked out on User:Relyk/icon. For any icon that is used in multiple places, like special event icons on the map and npcs, it makes sense to have a special event icon template.--Relyk ~ talk < 19:44, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
Ah that looks interesting. Actually not a bad approach.
A thing I would like to point out is the fact that many icons are not clearly a part of one category. For example some of the service icons are the icons that float over the head of the NPC, others are the icons which are shown on th map sometime both are identical while other times they are not. And by the way I think the split of NPC services in vendor, trainer and craftsmen is kind of problematic that should simply be on template. To much spliting can also be confusing.
Scout is also a problematic thing, because is this a map icon or a serverce. Now you can say it is clearly a service because it is not part of the map completion, but temple and dungeon are also not part of the map completion, and scouts are closely tied to hearts etc. Most splits we do are kind of arbetary. The event icons and probably the dialog icons are the only one which I find unproblematic. The rest can be pretty difficult to categories and the current categorization is purely historical.
By the way I was the genius you put the switch statement in the file staement, because the pixel number varied in all templates between 16px and 20 px, so I thought things would be at least consistent. ^^ - Yandere Talk to me... 20:17, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
That's what I was saying with "icons in multiple places". Most of those are special event icons and have theme of being related to the special event even if they're services/eveents/etc. If we can put an icon in a more specific category than map, that is ideal, the icon on the map can indicate a service/event/object. The services template is suppose to merge the vendor/trainer/craftsmen split we have. It's going to match the services icons in the NPC infobox.
Any time we have to use {{!}}, I cringe. That's why I prefer file/template inline, it looks clean and people won't be confused.--Relyk ~ talk < 20:46, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
Actually I agree on the {{!}}, but I think it is ok in templates. It is a total no go in mainspace however (at least for me). But garanted it doesn't make the template better to read.
