Back after a 10 year break from GW2. Looks like things changed for the better!

Seems I came back at just the right time (after re-release of LWS1) to enjoy the last decade of storyline in chronological order.

How to successfully return to GW2 after a long break[edit]

Based on what worked for me.

  • Log into all your old characters and collect oodles of Birthday Gifts. Some of these are really useful!
  • Put them in the Bank or keep them on a mule (a character you don't play)
  • If you end with a ton of various Boosts, you can compress/convert some through the Boost Enchantment Researcher. Crafting Boosters are especially useful.
  • Try and see which Race and Profession you like best. Use those Experience Scrolls to quickly unlock skills.
  • Level up, playing Personal Story while you do. Carefully decide which Order to choose in the later chapters.
  • Levelling is super fast now, you'll easily get to 80 in a few days with the big experience bonus from the Adventure Guide. Gather crafting resources on the way!
  • Try to run some dungeons as they become available, and exploration paths too (story = normal dungeon, p2 = exploration path 2, skip/noskip refers to cutscenes, chill means maybe less rushing around!)

You will quickly outlevel the zones you are in before completing it. That's fine, Dynamic level adjustment will take care of it, but in zones appropriate for your level the loot will be better. Doesn't matter much though.

Things to do when you're 80[edit]

  • Do Daily tasks, you get 2g each day and bonus items in addition to whatever the daily is (foraging, mining, events, etc.)
  • Run Fractals - there's daily fractals or just pick some from LFG - Below 20 you don't need Agony Resistance.
  • Continue the story with LWS1. Try to get some Achievements for each chapter as you go along, or go back and revisit them.
  • Work on your Crafting.
  • Jumping Puzzles - good training, as there are lots of these in Fractals
  • Work on World Completion, little by little
  • Make some alternate characters. Choose a different Race and Personal Story for them.

Content Order[edit]

Summarized from Expansions, Zones and Story Journal.

Spend wisely[edit]

Save your gold, exchange it for Gems so you can buy Gem store exclusives, including Character Slot Expansions, Additional Crafting Licenses and more story chapters. Wait until they come up for sale, often you can get 30% off.

Other useful things include infinite gathering tools and Salvage-o-matic, best in combination with a shared inventory slot.
