Dialogue[edit]
Eir's homestead[edit]
Upon arrival:
- Skarti: Hail, Slayer. For Hoelbrak's sake, I hope Eir is right about you.
- Skarti: Those order representatives refuse to cooperate. Until someone takes charge, nothing will get done.
- Skarti: It has to be someone they respect, someone unaffiliated. Eir, will you step forward?
- Eir Stegalkin: I have rarely said no to you, Skarti, or your father, but this time I must.
- Skarti: You are the only one who can aid us. The Wolfborn can't appear to take a side.
- Eir Stegalkin: No, it's time for a new legend to arise in Hoelbrak. The Slayer can take up this challenge.
Talking with Skarki before he leaves:
- Skarti: I wish I could give you more information, but I must return to Hoelbrak. Speak with Eir, she can tell you more about the orders.
- She has much in her mind. I'll try to help her sort it out.
Talking to Eir Stegalkin (cinematic):
- <Character Name>: What's going on? What was that all about?
- Eir Stegalkin: Skarti, son of Knut Whitebear and head of the Wolfborn, bring word of trouble in Hoelbrak.
- <Character Name>: I don't understand. Did I hear you refuse to help?
- Eir Stegalkin: My time as a hero has come and gone. You're the hero Hoelbrak needs now.
- Eir Stegalkin: I will follow and advise you of course, but this is your time, and your challenge.
- Eir Stegalkin: Come. Skarti's waiting in Hoelbrak, and he needs help. He's meeting with some dignitaries who are very important, but hard to manage.
Talking with Eir after the cinematic:
- Eir Stegalkin: I'm glad to have you with me for this. Any questions before the meeting?
- There are three in all: the Order of Whispers, the Durmand Priory, and the Vigil.
- They're a shadowy organization with a long history of secrets and intrigue. Their agents are everywhere, but they stay hidden, so we don't know much about them.
- I'd like to know about a different order.
- That's all I need to know for now. Thanks.
Tell me about the Order of Whispers.
- An academy of scholars and explorers, they study the past generations to defeat the dragons. Ancient weapons, forgotten magic, secret histories—anything they can find.
- I'd like to know about a different order.
- That's all I need to know for now. Thanks.
Tell me about the Durmand Priory.
- The Vigil was born when the first dragon awoke[sic]. The founder personally survived a dragon attack, and she organized a force to defeat them.
- I'd like to know about a different order.
- That's all I need to know for now. Thanks.
Tell me about the Vigil.
- That's all I needed, thanks.
I'd like to know more about the orders.
- [sic]. No, I'm ready to go. Let's head to the Hall of Snow Leopard
Hunter's Hearth[edit]
Approaching the representatives:
- Scholar Prott: The dredge? Attacking soldiers on the road?
- Skarti: Those are the rumors, yes. Ah, here comes the Slayer.
- Crusader Thurkill: Maybe now we'll get some results. The Vigil doesn't stand by when it's attacked: we strike back.
- Scholar Prott: At what? At the Priory, we collect information before we act. Otherwise, we're just flailing at shadows.
- Agent Ifwyn: And while you two are flailing and collecting, the Order of Whispers will be solving the problem.
At Skarti (cinematic):
- Skarti: Welcome, Slayer. I'd like you to meet the representatives from the Vigil, the Durmand Priory and the Order of Whispers. They need your help.
- <Character Name>: I'm honored. I'll do what I can, but first I need to know more. What's the situation?
- Skarti: Dredge activity's rising sharply up north. We've been finding dead bodies with horrific and inexplicable wounds.
- Skarti: All three orders have an interest, so we need to combine our efforts...but we can't agree on a course of action. I'll let them elaborate.
- Agent Ifwyn: Welcome, Slayer. I'm Ifwyn of the Order of Whispers. We specialize in covert activity: information, infiltration, and assassination.
- Agent Ifwyn: We found the bodies, we reported the strange wounds...and we heard rumors of a dredge attack on Scholar's Cleft, a Priory facility in that region.
- Scholar Prott: That complex is not well defended. Allow me to introduce myself: Scholar Prott of the Durmand Priory.
- Scholar Prott: Scholar's Cleft is a place of learning. We're studying the Elder Dragons there, and that research is too important to fall into dredge hands.
- Crusader Thurkill: The Vigil has other priorities. I'm Crusader Thurkill. Marauding dredge are the problem? I say no dredge, no problem.
- Crusader Thurkill: Those tunneling devils cost me a squad. I'll punish them for that, so they can't do more harm. Ever.
- Skarti: So we have two objectives, two plans, but only one Slayer. That leaves one question: who gets your help?
- Skarti: The dredge threat needs to be identified and contained. How will you begin? By protecting Scholar's Cleft, or avenging the fallen Vigil squad?
Talking with Skarti after the cinematic:
- Skarti: Let me thank you on behalf of Knut Whitebear, the Wolfborn, and Hoelbrak. If you hadn't stepped in...I swear, they were about to start brawling.
- Thurkill is brash, bull-headed, and blunt, but devoted to his order. He's the perfect Vigil soldier: strong, brave, and dedicated.
- How about Prott and the Durmand Priory?
- Interesting. Thanks for the information.
Can you tell me about Thurkill and the Vigil?
- The Priory may seem like sheltered academics, but they get most of their knowledge by adventuring out in the field. Pott's a good example: he combines vast knowledge with effective action.
- I see. How about Thurkill and the Vigil?
- Thanks.
Can you tell me about Prott and the Durmand Priory?
- Let's make sure it doesn't come to that.
Talking with Eir:
- Eir Stegalkin: This is an importand decision, Slayer. Each of the orders is dedicated to stopping the Elder Dragons, but their methods couldn't be more distinct.
- If it'll help you make up your mind, I'll tell you what I know. Which do you want to hear about?
- The Priory says knowledge is power. Their bold explorers retrieve powerful antiquities from dangerous locations, and gifted scholars to[sic] apply such finds to their cause.
Tell me about the Durmand Priory.
- For the Order of Whispers, the ends justify the means. They don't want to draw undue attention so they work behind the scenes. Direct confrontation is their last resort.
Tell me about the Order of Whispers.
- The Vigil relies on martial power. Their mission is to protect the innocent and that means building an unstoppable army to crush the dragon.
Tell me about the Vigil.
- I still need more time to think.
I have questions about the orders.
- I need more time to think.
Talking with Agent Ifwyn:
- Agent Ifwyn: So Slayer, how goes the dredge operation? Is success on the horizon?
- No offense, but I'd rather achieve success before I talk about it.
Upon talking to Scholar Prott:
- Scholar Prott: Scholar's Cleft houses rare books and old tomes, but there's nothing specifically dredge-related there. Will you come with me to make sure it's safe?
- Splendid. The desire to learn is the key to wisdom. You'll be a huge asset on this mission.
- Underground Scholar) I hope so. Let's get started. (Leads to
- I haven't decided yet.
Yes. I want to know why the dredge are headed there.
- I need to consider my options.
Upon talking to Crusader Thurkill:
- Crusader Thurkill: I don't like to admit it, but we've had trouble containing the dredge. I have a unit standing by, but we could still use your help.
- Good. Very good. With the Slayer of Issormir beside us, the Vigil can handle anything the dredge throw at us. The sooner we get started, the better.
- Armaments) Agreed. Let's find out what happened to your missing squad. (Leads to
- I'd like to, but I haven't made up my mind yet.
Count me in.
- Thanks for saying so.
When choosing the Priory over the Vigil:
- Crusader Thurkill: Some "slayer" you are. Who chooses sentry duty over taking the fight to the enemy?
- Agent Ifwyn: Someone thinking about the future. Your comrades are gone, but Scholar's Cleft can still be saved.
- Agent Ifwyn: I approve of the Slayer approach. This is bigger than frisky dredge and lost patrols.
- Crusader Thurkill: Maybe. But we have to start somewhere, and the dredge started this when they attacked the Vigil.
Talking to the representatives after choosing the Priory:
- Scholar Prott: We have a much better chance with you to assist us.
- Good-bye.
- Crusader Thurkill: You should've stuck with me. Hope those bookworms are worth it.
- Good-bye.
When choosing the Vigil over the Priory:
- Scholar Prott: I'm disappointed that the slayer sided with the Vigil, but I suppose I understand the choice.
- Agent Ifwyn: It's easy to see why. Obviously the "slayer" chose to slay things.
- Scholar Prott: Point taken. I just hope that our new friend can transcend that title's inherent limitations.
Talking to the representatives after choosing the Vigil:
- Scholar Prott: Your priorities are misguided. Best of luck to you anyway.
- Thanks.
- Crusader Thurkill: I look forward to working with you.
- Thanks.
Talking to Agent Ifwyn after choosing:
- Agent Ifwyn: Well done, Slayer... but I'm betting you can get even better results with the Order of Whispers.
- You'll get your chance to find out. There's still a lot of work to do.
Talking to Eir Stegalkin after choosing:
- Eir Stegalkin: Well done, Slayer. But making the choice is only the beginning. May the Spirits of the Wild guide you to glory.
- If so, they'll be finishing the job you started. Thanks for everything, Eir.
Talking to Skarti after choosing:
- Skarti: Safe journey, Slayer of Issormir. This dredge threat is troubling, but I trust you'll get to the bottom of it.
- I'll do my best.
