Chuck Two-Buck's World Famous Pan-Tyria Pub Crawl[edit]

Wherein the wares at each wonderful warm wateringhole are welcomed and a drunken selfie documents the debauchery!

Yes this is a thing.

No, you don't get a legendary weapon from this. Your toon gets cirrhosis.

Do it for the orphans of Divinity's Reach!

So, with all the salt around legendary armor back in the day, I figured I'd post my own Legendary Journey.

For every kind of alcohol and related item in the game. One for crazy items and a stack of each for everything else.

Have gone all over the map for hard-to-find vendors, bugged event merchants, and started a nuclear-worthy stockpile of Elonian wine.

Here's the catch: any alcohol not available on the TP, you have to do the map run 100% inebriated (drunk effect in-game, doing this irl ymmv) and lacking a random armor item or weapon as though you went out unprepared for a smokes and roadbeers run.

Notes from the brewery[edit]

The odd thing is, I don't even like alcohol irl...

Why make my own legendary? I don't personally prefer any of the high fantasy legendary items in the game. Just not my speed, but I respect the work that legendary people put into getting them (And Anet for designing them).

Ok but y tho? It's literally anything other than Yet Another Cookiecutter Legendary screenshot.

What makes this journey so legendary, anyway? I feel this is a legendary journey because it takes more than a *year* with the subscription brews. Also it costs many hundreds of gold and requires actual creativity and investigation.

What loot drops from this? The loot is the treasury of friends and acquaintances thatI have met so many nice and amazing people all along these map runs!!!

What items are consumed in the process? I don't even know how many additional stacks of 2 buck chuck I have burned through to stay drunk while running alcohol-themed events (Halla in Orr and that *thirsty* Norn chick with the stout ale).

What cannot be included in this Legendary Journey?[edit]

Elixir of Heroes, Bottle of Rum bundle and Elixir Bottle are bundles and can't be taken into inventory.

Profession-specific skills involving alcohol, such as Drop Stim Brew don't count for this Legendary Journey. Same for engineer elixirs.

Edit 3: The following terms are USELESS in GW2 for this Legendary Journey. However, searching them out is part of the journey. Literally unplayable: bitters, rye, mash, hair of the dog, omnomberry juice, rum, daiquiri, near-beer, 4Loko, [beer] nuts, salty snacks

Achievement Chain[edit]

  1. Decide whether your character is gonna drink to remember or drink to forget (0 AP).
  2. Go to Lion's Arch and contemplate that Anet adds alcohol-themed skins to the focus wep type, when alcohol gets you blurry.
  3. Go to Hoelbrak --> Biergarten --> Courage Brewery and enjoy the ambient audio and just appreciate the crazy amount of human life invested in building GW2 from zero to today.
    1. Get a selfie with STEINGRIM the Norn barkeep, he of the most metal name for drinking ever.
    2. Defeat every master belcher in Belcher's Bluff. Requires permanent Belcher’s Bluff kit.
  4. Contemplate, at the foot of Brothander Halfmad, the direction of your life and if games truly bring you joy.
    1. Complete Festive Imbiber.
    2. Complete Thirst Slayer.
    3. Complete Fine Wining.
  5. Collect a Bottle of Skrittsburgh Special as a potential hero point but do not consume it! This is for COLLECTION!
  6. Switch servers to Tarnished Coast and head to any of the roleplaying hubs in Divinity's Reach. Convincingly roleplay a bartender (0 AP).
  7. Visit Apple Jack in Queensdale. Drink enough to soothe the crushing letdown that AJ is not what you thought or hoped it was.

Interview questions to Bobby Stein[edit]

Beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder

Over your many years as a narrative designer, how have you wrestled with advancing GW2 past the comfortable trap of "the heroes are beautiful and the villains are ugly" trope?

——

The future, the present, and the past walk into a bar. Things get tense.

What kind of crazy planning do you guys have to do to make sure everyone's writing/voice acting/programming line up correctly? Across a single episode? Across sequential episodes? Across the entire game history?

——

Beer: so much more than a breakfast drink

To what extent are the narrative and setting design folks involved with naming/coming up with foods and beverages in GW2? Is that in your wheelhouse?

——

Everyone needs something to believe in; I believe I'll have a chocolate stout!

Faith and religion can be polarizing issues in the real world. How do you and your narrative design staff tackle the process and balances of writing gods, impostor gods, and people confronting difficult faith crossroads (like Kasmeer in a recent Living World episode?) without angering diverse players?

——

Alcohol...Because no great story ever started with someone eating a salad.

When designing a new race like the Sylvari, do you design details way beyond what makes it into the game and draw from that into the future, or flesh (vegetable...?) them out more as you go?

——

Sometimes I drink a glass of water just to surprise my liver.

How much do you labor toward major plot twists intentionally vs. incorporate them as targets of opportunity as you do other things with the narrative?

——

Alcohol may be my enemy but Ventari's Tablet says to love your enemy.

As a lead writer, do you tend to see all moral dilemmas written fo the various characters and races as variations on a few foundational dilemmas, or do you see a real variety among them?

——

I'm not an *alcoholic*; alcoholics go to meetings. I'm a *Norn*; we go to moots.

How do you balance out adult vs. general audience writing in an ESRB teen-rated game spanning many countries in distribution?

——

Pain makes you stronger. Tears make you braver. A broken heart makes you wiser. Alcohol makes you not remember any of that crap.

How do you balance the necessary gap between narrative bursts of each season's episodes against trying to provide a continuous story without too much exposition with each episode?

——

Beer is like pouring smiles on your brain

How do you personally, as a lead writer, balance humor & tension-relief writing vs. serious, dire writing for the GW2 setting?

——

Attention: please be patient with the bartender. Even a toilet can only serve one asshole at a time.

How do you blow off steam when player salt gets too concentrated? Are you able to play GW2 and enjoy it or do you suffer from the artist's curse of seeing (real or imagined) imperfections that the rest of us would never know?

——

I never drink. I just disinfect internal injuries.

Granted, there are no culinary applications for bloodstone dust. None. *No good can come from feeding it to living beings.*

....

Ok, but what about *drinking* it, e.g., [goldschlager](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldschl%C3%A4ger)-style?
