Text[edit]
- Concerning Convert
- Justiciar Caudecus, I share your concern with Confessor Esthel's newfound piousness. The White Mantle are meant for greater things than playing servant to some has-been god.
- I heard that you would like to offer an...alternative direction for our order. Know that when the moment comes, you will have the support of my forces in Maguuma. —Justiciar Bauer
- The letter ends. Leave.
- Purged by Fire
- Justiciar Caudecus, My inquisitors have found yet another nonbeliever among your forces. We've purged her by fire as an example to the others, but I am doubtful she'll be the last.
- It concerns me deeply that so many among our order—and specifically, those under your command—seem to have forgotten our true purpose: to serve the Unseen Ones.
- If I didn't know better, I'd be questioning just how dedicated you are to the cause. For the glory of the Unseen, High Inquisitor Xera
- The letter ends. Leave.
- Falcon Company
- Minister, The deed is done. I accompanied your...associates, and we burned the centaur camp. I personally ensured the War King's family did not escape with their lives.
- As we expected, the attack sent the beasts into a rage, and they've begun more aggressive campaigns within Kryta.
- The evidence we planted should be sufficient to point the blame at Falcon Company. I've enclosed their next patrol route, per your request. I expect my payment now. —Captain Tervelan
- The letter ends. Leave.
- A Timely Promotion
- Justiciar Caudecus, The Unseen Ones smile upon us. After years of searching, High Inquisitor Xera has found a lead on the refuge of our injured god, Lazarus.
- It would appear that, after he was betrayed by Justicar Naveed over two centuries ago, Lazarus was forced to re-split himself into aspects to contain the corruption.
- Once imbued into artifacts, these aspects were scattered across the Maguuma Jungle and sites sacred to our order. And it is now our charge to gather these aspects.
- In her absence—and in light of your success discrediting the impostor on the Krytan throne—I am naming you second-in-command of the White Mantle. Do not disappoint me. —Confessor Esthel
- The letter ends. Leave.
- Flea-Bitten Bedfellows
- Justiciar, The offering you've made of those responsible for the cowardly attack on our settlement has prompted me to reconsider your proposal.
- While I remain skeptical of your "White Mantle" and some of your intentions should Kryta return to your rule, I agree that the time to act is upon us.
- You say that you can clear a path to Divinity's Reach for my troops, and so I will send one of my High Sages with a warband at twilight tonight.
- If your claim is true you have earned my trust. —Ulgoth the Mighty, War King of the Modniir
- The letter ends. Leave.
- He lives...
- Minister Caudecus, As I'm sure you're aware, a large band of centaurs attacked the village of Shaemoor and laid siege to Shaemoor Garrison, nearly threatening the capital itself.
- Scouts following their tracks after the battle report that they marched directly through lands of your jurisdiction—along a patrol route assigned to the Ministry Guard, according to Captain Lange
- Keep reading.
- Lives were lost in that attack, Minister. I must respectfully ask that you either whip your Ministry Guard into shape or get them out of my way. —Captain Logan Thackeray, Commander of the Seraph
- The letter ends. Leave.
- Unrefined, Yet Effective
- My Lord, Big Nose Ted got himself jailed again, along with more of your mutual acquaintances. If I hadn't gotten to them before Thackeray did, he'd be interrogating them right now.
- They're becoming a liability. Are you quite sure I should release them again? Or should I make appropriate arrangements to prevent this from happening again? —Commander Serentine
- The letter ends. Leave.
- A New Protégé
- Justiciar, I wanted to tell you again what a profound honor it has been to be invited to the fold. To tell the truth, I had thought the White Mantle were only a story told to scare children.
- To discover that they not only that they [sic] existed, but that they possessed such an inspired vision for the future of Kryta—well, it's been a lot to absorb in a short amount of time.
- I have the feeling this is the beginning of a long and fruitful friendship. —Minister, or should I say Initiate, Zamon
- The letter ends. Leave.
- Sacrifices Must Be Made
- Caudecus, I'm told that I'm to stand trial for treason in the coming days. You need to act quickly. Work your connections. Make this go away.
- Let me make this perfectly clear to you: if I go down, I'm taking you with me. Do you understand? —Minister Zamon
- The letter ends. Leave.
- The Curtain Falls
- Minister, It would seem the Ringmaster was foiled, and he managed to lose the Floating Grizwhirl in the process! I suppose you were correct, and that a more "direct" approach is necessary.
- I'll make preparations for our "guest." By Adelbern's beard, the charr will be purged from our lands! —Uzolan
- The letter ends. Leave.
- A Minor Setback
- Ministers, Let it be known that all charges against Minister Arton in regards to the tragic loss of Falcon Company have been cleared, in light of new evidence verified by Captain Thackeray of the Seraph.
- This evidence suggests that Arton was deliberately framed by enemies of the Crown. While a thorough investigation is still underway, we intend to pursue these agents and bring justice upon them.
- We remind you that anyone found to be conspiring with enemies of Kryta will be punished swiftly, and severely. —Queen Jennah
- The letter ends. Leave.
- The Enemies of My Enemy
- As a rule, I tend not to trust anonymous letters, but I'm sending this note back with your bird because of the gravity of what you wrote.
- If what you say about a planned assassination and about the identity of the White Mantle Confessor is true, I can't afford not to act.
- That being said, I'll give you the same warning I give all new informants: I don't like being toyed with. We'll be watching the target to see if this assassination attempt actually comes to pass.
- If it does, I'll consider the validity of the rest of your claim. And if it doesn't, I'll be forced to demonstrate just how seriously I take these matters. —E
- The letter ends. Leave.
- Under New Management
- Confessor Caudecus, Allow me to congratulate you on your promotion. Confessor Esthel lacked the foresight needed to lead us. The ease with which she was exposed and killed clearly showed her faults.
- The White Mantle will finally have the guidance it needs to carry it into a great and glorious future. Per your orders, we're shifting our focus to researching a means of weaponizing the bloodstones.
- You should know, however, that Xera is less than enthusiastic about the change in leadership. She and her lap dog Matthias have been throwing around some fairly treasonous accusations against you.
- You would be wise to keep her on a tight leash, lest she spread further dissent among the ranks of the Mantle. Of course, you can trust me to keep you informed. —Justiciar Bauer
- The letter ends. Leave.
- Old Friends, Older Enemies
- General Beetlestone, When I heard your queen was selling Ascalon out to the charr, I was afraid you were on board with that madness. That you'd forgotten about your soldiers out here in the trenches.
- I appreciate your note, and I'm glad you're as disgusted with this "treaty" as I am. If your White Mantle pledge to free Ascalon from the charr, then you have the Separatists' support. And mine.
- It will be an honor to fight alongside you once again, General. Together, we will cleanse these lands. —Captain DeLana
- The letter ends. Leave.
- Trouble at Home
- Father, You promised. You promised there would be no more secrets between us. How then, do you explain what I found in the basement? The weapons? The unsavory-looking brutes?
- And these letters from Mother? What did she learn that made her say these things? Is that why she left? If you hadn't driven her away, these bandits never would've found her, and she'd still be alive!
- By the Six, I'm not even sure it WAS the bandits that killed her. Was it you? Is that why Landon was the one to find her? Was it you all along, Father?
- I'm leaving. For good this time. I know people who can protect me from a monster like you. From everything you are. From everything you've done. You'll never hurt me again. —Demmi
- The letter ends. Leave.
- Pirates? Really?
- Minister Caudecus, There's been a development of sorts. Those filthy Jackdaws claimed to have Demmi, but when we went to "liberate" the girl, someone had already absconded with her.
- We found one of the pirates, name of Drake, passed out and reeking of grog. I don't know how reliable his intel is, but he mentioned a charr and another pirate he didn't recognize, so I figure she has help.
- It appears they're making their way to Lion's Arch. Provided this tracking enchantment doesn't wear out, I'll continue to provide updates on their whereabouts. —Commander Landon
- The letter ends. Leave.
- A Wi Problem
- Confessor, You'll never guess who showed up at the Chantry of Secrets today—or, knowing you, maybe you will. It's Demmi.
- Apparently your dearly departed wife's cousin, Lady Wi, coaxed her from her comfortable lifestyle and spent the last two days interrogating her. Don't worry—she didn't have much actionable intel.
- It appears she bolted from the manor before she could gather enough evidence to pin anything overtly treasonous on you. Still, you should expect the Order to watch you more closely from now on.
- As for the leads they've got, I'll do what I can to make sure they result in dead ends—emphasis on the dead part. I await your instructions on what should be done about Lady Wi. —No Names
- The letter ends. Leave.
- Eye for an Eye, Child for a Child
- Minister Beetlestone, It would be my pleasure to perform for you. How can I refuse when you offer such a magnificent instrument as a gift? You truly are too kind.
- I'm sorry to hear Demmi won't be in attendance; it's been far too long since I last saw her, and I'd love the opportunity to catch up. Perhaps another time.
- Thank you again, —Lady Valette Wi
- The letter ends. Leave.
- Yet Another New Protégé
- Minister Beetlestone, I know you said I could call you Caudecus, but old habits die hard. Thank you for attending my performance. I've had a chance to think about the discussion we had afterward.
- With so much threatening Kryta—the centaurs, the bandits, and the charr plot you've uncovered—I'd be lying if the promise of a safer and stronger Kryta didn't sound promising.
- It feels wrong going behind my parents' backs like this, but they wouldn't listen. Between Father's loyalty to the queen and Mother's insistence that she knows everything without explaining how...
- Well, I'll just have to show them myself. Once they see things improving, they'll have to admit I was right. I'll come to that meeting you invited me to, just to see what it's all about.
- And thank you for listening. It's nice to be treated like an adult by someone, for a change. —Valette
- The letter ends. Leave.
- And Stay Dead
- Confessor, It wasn't easy, but I managed to swap the artifacts as you requested—just in time, too. Xera took off north without so much as a word.
- I wish I could be there when the smug zealot's ritual fails, when her followers turn on her and come crawling back to us. Perhaps I'll allow some to return. But most will be fed to the bloodstone.
- I'm sure you've delayed your relocation to the queen's palace for as long as you can, so I'll find a way to get in touch with you there going forward. Until then, Confessor. —Justiciar Bauer
- The letter ends. Leave.
