Rewards[edit]

Walkthrough[edit]

The mission starts on top of the tower near the Waypoint (map icon).png Park Mining Ops Waypoint (there is an elevator to the top for easy access without flying mounts).

For the cave sections of the instance you will be targeted by a large circle of Falling Rocks every 15 seconds or so, causing heavy damage several times (up to 8k damage per hit) as well as Knockdown, making them important to avoid. Annoyingly enough, this remains active even when the camera is largely out of your control for Chul-Moo's flashback/vision at the final section of the cave which can be deadly.

In the instance itself the Collector will available to swap to using the Special action skill. Use it to cause the Ravenous Wanderer to spawn in, though it is incredibly tough and should be avoided for now. Defeat 3 waves of marked enemies near Rama and then collect the orbs of stray magic that spawn from his formation and put them down in the marked circles with the skill gotten from the orb. After that, run north into the next chamber and destroy some Jade Stalagmites and enemies (though only enemies marked with crossed green swords count here) before repeating the previous ritual segment with Rama.

Flee north again for a change of pace. Defeat the Jade Brotherhood members, and then the illusory bullies created from Chul-Moo's memories before gaining some (illusory) noodles to give to Chul-Moo's memory of Yao to get Chul-Moo (the real one) back on his feet. Head north once more for the final encounter with the powered-up and now gigantic Legendary Ravenous Wanderer.

This encounter is relatively simple: the Wanderer itself won't be directly engaged with. Instead, destroy the semi-circle of crystals around it and pick up the orbs that they drop so that enemies spawn around Yao. Defeat them and then destroy the Haze Heart that appears after that and then repeat the destruction of crystals to do the same with Rama and then with Gorrik and Taimi. To finally defeat the Wanderer head to the marked circle and use your new Special action skill Focus Thoughts to weaken the boss before finally killing it.

Speak with your allies to finish the instance.

Achievements[edit]

Entrapment What Lies Within 1Achievement points
Trap and defeat the ravenous wanderer.Journal: Entrapment Completed Entrapment 1Achievement points
  • Complete the story mission.
Jumpy Adventurer What Lies Within 1Achievement points
Jump over 10 shock waves from the ravenous wanderer during the final battle of Gyala Delve. Completed 10 Jumps 1Achievement points
  • During the final part of the mission the Legendary Ravenous Wanderer will sometimes slam its fists into the ground, causing a shockwave to spread out that can be jumped over.
  • Due to how rarely the boss slams down, their limited reach (barely a quarter of the arena), and the fact that they sometimes hit far above the ground (especially in the eastern part of the arena), gaining progress for this achievement can be difficult here. You can refrain from attacking and just let the boss attack over and over until you've gotten enough shockwaves.
  • Hint: there seems to be a mismatch between the graphics and the effect, so even though you might think you're jumping at the right time, you're still not getting credit. Try jumping really early; essentially, aim to land on the wave, rather than past it. Another strategy is to stand somewhat close to the initial slam, and jump as soon as the hands hit the ground.
  • The ground where the slam occurs and where you're standing must be almost the exact same height. Even if you're standing on ground slightly higher and can still see the shockwave, it does not appear to count. This mainly happens if you're camping nearer to the edges of the arena outside of the AOE attacks and where the ground inclines up a bit.
  • Also completable during the Destroy the ravenous wanderer meta-event in Gyala Delve.

Dialogue[edit]

Excavation Yard (open world)[edit]

Meeting with your allies
Taimi: Were you able to seal the working?
Detective Rama: Yeah, I managed to conjure it. But it took a few tries. Plus I had help.
Gorrik: You prepoared the bestyou could given the situation. Everyone has. How are you doing, Commander?
<Character name>: Ready to put all of this to rest.
Chul-Moo: You can say that again! If everything's set over here, I'll go alert my crew.
Chul-Moo: We've got siege turtles ready to mobilize by way of an old Luxon mining passage. Help ya lure that thing to the surface.
Chul-Moo: We'll head through first, clear things out. Then, you come through and seal those exits. You need me, I'll be on comms.
Yao: Need some backup? Finn and I—
Chul-Moo: Stay with your friends. They need you.
Chul-Moo: Oh, and, Detective, when you're done with that seal...
Chul-Moo: It's yours. You're the one who knows how to use it, so, do what you will with it. Good luck out there.
Detective Rama: Same to you.
Checking in with your allies
Detective Rama: Guess it's time to see if all our practice paid off, huh?
Talk more option tango.png You already managed once. At this point, you'll just be showing off.
Heh. Appreciate the vote of confidence. Think I got it down. And the seal's mine now anyway, so I might as well get comfortable using it.
Talk end option tango.png Right. You need backup, I'll be there.
Gorrik: Alchemy, it's finally time to set our plan into action. Oh, but what if I missed something... I could've run a few more tests...or gathered more samples... Or...
Talk more option tango.png You run a science lab out of a tent in a mine. You've done more than enough.
Thanks, Commander. With something this critical, it's hard not to feel like you could've done even a little bit more.
Talk more option tango.png I know the feeling.
But you've already done so much yourself! If it's any help, some of your most difficult work may very well be behind you already.
Talk end option tango.png Maybe. I don't know. Appreciate the sentiment.
Taimi: Ya know, you do seem more...centered. And am I sensing some newfound resolve?
Talk more option tango.png Maybe a bit. Stepping away to reflect had its uses.
It's usually not a bad idea every now and then. For anyone. Doesn't mean everything will be smooth sailing from there, but...sometimes even a little good goes a long way for staying motivated.
Talk end option tango.png There's certainly truth to that.
Chul-Moo: (exasperated sigh)
Talk more option tango.png Agreed. But it's almost over.
About time. Well, no use stalling. Already did enough of that...
Talk end option tango.png Just focus on what needs to be done. Stay strong.
Finn: (beep boop) Do you require encouragement to aid you in facing the formidable, yet plausibly insurmountable task ahead?
Talk more option tango.png Sure.
Go you! You have got this! No one can do this quite like you! You are the real MVP here! MVP, an abbreviation for "most valuable person or player," context-dependent. Hoorah! Go get 'em, tiger!
Talk more option tango.png Heh. You've come a long way, Finn. Good for you.
Thank you for taking note of my deliberate strides toward personal improvement. Positive reinforcement registered. (boop beep)
Talk end option tango.png Guess Yao was right about positive reinforcement.
Yao: Is this nightmare over yet? Lab work felt like vacation compared to this.
Talk more option tango.png You've been making a name for yourself here in the thick of things.
That's high praise from someone who goes by "the commander." Guess you bring out the fighter in me. But I should probably get through this before basking in compliments.
Talk end option tango.png And you will. We all will.

The Deep (instance)[edit]

Entering the instance
Gorrik: Well, this is it. We've practiced, we're prepared. And now, it's time to take action!
Gorrik: Ready?
The first Recollector point
Gorrik: Okay, Commander. You'll want to get fairly close to it. Entice it a little with the recollector.
Taimi: Here it comes! And it does NOT look happy. RUN!
The first sealing
Detective Rama: All right, visualize with intention. Voices of your ancestors. Let's go!
Taimi: Just like we practiced, Commander. Distract those pests any way you can. Stun 'em, smack 'em, whatever works!
one of the following:
Detective Rama: "I seal this path before-" No, that's not it!
Detective Rama: "I—I see this pass—" Ugh. Focus.
Detective Rama: I keep screwing it up! Why can't I remember—
Detective Rama: You. You have some nerve showing your face here. Don't tell me they let you out of prison.
Yao: Rama? Not you too!
Yao: Commander, help me get those demons away from him!
Recollector: (low-power alert)
Taimi: No! The Recollector is draining way too fast!
<Character name>: They're recovering faster than I can stop them.
Gorrik: We're too close to the ley line! We need to get out of here as quickly as possible!
Detective Rama: Don't bring her into this! Besides, why would I trust anything you tell me?
Detective Rama: What? She said that? No...she would never... Would she?
<Character name>: Rama, can you hear me? Visualize. With intent. Your ancestors! Remember?
Detective Rama: Huh? Visualize? With intent... My ancestors.
<Character name>: I seal this pass—
Detective Rama: I seal this pass before me...
Detective Rama: Two worlds, once whole, divide...
Detective Rama: Withstand all wandering evils...
Detective Rama: And guard what lies inside.
Detective Rama: Commander? Gods... That was...
<Character name>: A nightmare. I know.
Detective Rama: Thanks. Let's get the hell out of here.
While progressing through to the next section
Chul-Moo: Can you hear me all right? We're making steady progress, but it's a real mess out here.
Yao: Just can't believe... I mean, we used to know them...
Chul-Moo: I know, kid. Hold tight. You'll be through this before you know it.
In the next section
<Character name>: The Recollector's completely drained.
Taimi: Wh-what do we do now?
Gorrik: Think, Gorrik, think... The jade! Try using the jade! Just trust me.
The summoned memory while collecting energy
Chul-Moo: Think you're too good for us, Yao? There's the door.
Yao: You can't handle that someone else is better than you! And—reality check—she is!
Yao: Maybe now I can accomplish what I want to without you holding me back!
Chul-Moo: You know how much I've done for you, you ungrateful brat? GET OUT!
After the memory vanished
Yao: I didn't think I said it to him like that...did I?
Yao: I do sound like a total brat...
Taimi: Wait, are we...looking at an actual memory of Yao's? Or is this just another hallucination?
Gorrik: I think it's showing us memories. Perhaps Yao's concern for Chul-Moo is being amplified by the jade corruption.
Gorrik: We're likely seeing a memory reflective of their mental state. Yao, did it really happen this way?
Yao: Did I always treat him like that? How could he stand me?
<Character name>: Yao? You don't want to go down that path. Trust me—
Yao: Maybe he was happy I left... And he didn't have to deal with me anymore...
After collecting all the ley energy
<Character name>: That did it.
Gorrik: Just like my research said. The jade's been absorbing the demon's influence. Which means—
Taimi: It's absorbing memories! Gorrik, you're a genius!
Gorrik: Just a scientist. With a few good theories.
Encountering more demons
Chul-Moo: You there? Hello? Anyone?
Yao: Chul-Moo? What's wrong?
Chul-Moo: Listen, she's back... She's screwing with me... Don't believe a word she says, Yao. Promise me! You have to promise!
Yao: O-okay. I promise. Who are you—
Chul-Moo: Stop. STOP!
Yao: What is he talking about? Who's back? Or, who does he think is back?
Gorrik: It's likely he's hallucinating, too. We'll get to him as soon as we possibly can.
Yao: But if we're too late...
Detective Rama: I seal this pass before me... Two worlds, once whole, divide...
Detective Rama: Withstand all wandering evils... And guard what lies inside.
While progressing to the next section
Chul-Moo: Yao? You there?
Chul-Moo: WHAT DID YOU DO TO THEM? If you hurt that kid, I swear...I'll kill you again! And this time, I'll mean it!
Chul-Moo: It's me you want! Yao had nothing to do with this! They were just trying to help...
Yao: Huh? Chul-Moo?
Chul-Moo: They were always trying to help... And then, they were gone... And now, everyone's gone...
Yao: Can you hear me? We're coming for you, just hold on! We need to get to him. Now.
Arriving at the next section
Yao: He's here! Chul-Moo, are you alright?
Chul-Moo: What do you want from me? Just tell me, damn it!
Yao: He has no idea what's going on. And now the crew's in chaos. Let's clear things out and see if that helps.
The summoned memory
Chul-Moo: Stay back! What the hell is wrong with you?
Chul-Moo: You're completely unhinged!
In the present
Chul-Moo: I didn't know it was her! She attacked me! I didn't know what was going on—
Chul-Moo: I'm sorry, Binna. Jin-Lee. Mal-Chin. I'm so sorry.
Yao: That's Binna? So this is...real?
Yao: But that's not your fault. You couldn't have known what was wrong with her. And it was an accident.
The summoned memory
Yao: They made fun of my arm...
Chul-Moo: They do it again, you punch 'em with it. And if they still don't get the message, I'll introduce 'em to mine.
Chul-Moo: You alone, kid? What're you doing out so late? The hell's wrong with your parents?
The summoned memory - after delivering food
Chul-Moo: Hm. Hungry? Take it. We've got plenty.
Chul-Moo: Pretty cold tonight. You get sick of shivering, drop by the Blue Orchid. We'll get you set up. Ask for Chul-Moo.
In the present
Chul-Moo: What...the hell was I doing... I thought... I...
Yao: It's okay. We'll talk. Just wanted to remind you that you've done a lot of good, too.
Chul-Moo: I'm sorry you got dragged into this mess, along with everyone else. It's about time I got us out of it.
Chul-Moo: I need to get back to the crew. I'll see you when all of this is finished.
Arriving at the next section
Yao: This thing won't quit! What are we supposed to do now? It's gigantic!
<Character name>: I think...it's afraid. So it's making itself seem worse than it really is.
Taimi: We cut it off from the ley line. It must know it's out of options.
Gorrik: I think Yao had the right idea by blocking its manipulation through positive memories.
Gorrik: Let's see if we can produce a similar result.
Various summoned memories regaring your allies
Chul-Moo: You're one of mine, kid. No matter where life takes ya, you'll always have a home if you need one. Promise.
Rama: Training starts tomorrow.
Min: Oh, I know. I enrolled, too.
Rama: Uh, you decided to go for it?
Min: I did. Look at us—couple of do-gooders about to begin our lives of fighting crime together.
Rama: Yeah... Yeah. Look at us.
Taimi: Hmm...head in the clouds...tousled blond locks... You wouldn't be Blish's brother, would you?
Gorrik: Oh, uh...Taimi, right? Blish mentioned you'd be dropping by. He speaks very highly of you. Pleasure to finally meet you!
Taimi: Likewise.
Encourangement of your friends
Yao: If anyone can do this, it's you, Commander!
Detective Rama: We've got your back!
Taimi: You've already made it this far!
Gorrik: We believe in you, Commander. Always.
Summoned memories of the commander
General Almorra Soulkeeper: I'm proud that you saved so many innocents.
Eir Stegalkin: Thanks to you, I've been reminded that no matter how bad things seem, heroes don't give up on their friends.
If Durmand Priory:
Magister Sieran: You've taught me the most important lesson: friends will go through anything for each other.
If Vigil:
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Thank you for being my legacy.
If Order of Whispers:
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Nobody believed I had courage. Not even me... And then you came along.
Trahearne: It was your bravery that led us to safety, my friend. I am grateful to you.
<Character name>: It's time.
Talking to your friends after defeating the wanderer
Yao: Well, I'm totally drained. But kinda warm and fuzzy, in a weird way? Is this how it felt when you collected memories?
Yao: No wonder you're exhausted, Commander! You deserve a nap. Hell, we all do.
Detective Rama: Did we really just kill that thing with the power of positive thinking? (sigh) Ya know, normally that kind of crap annoys me, but uh...
Detective Rama: I do feel a lot better. Maybe that's just the adrenaline talking. Nice work out there, Commmander.
Taimi: So...
Gorrik: So...
Taimi: Thanks for helping back there. Both of you.
Gorrik: Same to both of you! Both of you!
Gorrik: And...for the first time...of many still to come...I can officially say...
Gorrik: Case closed.

Notes[edit]

  • While the human Ruffians from Chul-moo's have a ghostly apparance, the tengu one has a normal appearance.

My story[edit]

New Kaineng City loading screen.png

Through invention, planning, and some improvisation, we did it! We successfully lured and defeated the ravenous wanderer. Though not without cost... There were moments I worried that the wanderer would prove too great a physical and mental threat. But my allies demonstrated strength and perseverance right to the end. No easy task. I also witnessed some of their memories of mental anguish. I admit I feel a little bad about that. I of all people know the vulnerability and pain that comes with moments like those. Yet, if anything, I gained greater respect for them, knowing some of the difficult moments that shaped them into the people they are today. Coming away from all of this truly feels like a victory. And, as Gorrik said, I feel justified in declaring this entire ordeal "case closed."
