Discussion about removing race character creation summaries

Was there one? What were the objections to having the information given an overview on the race page? -- aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 01:44, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

No, there was no discussion. But there was this, so I just carried it over to the race pages. Mora 03:20, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
That was related to a wholesale copy and paste of the biography table into the article - I don't see it as the same thing. I see that section perhaps becoming a quick link box in future, but at the moment with the section gutted like that it is a really weak way to start the article. I'd like to readd the information overview back into the section. -- aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 03:54, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
I agree with Aspectacle; it is not the same thing. That was about copy pasting directly, where as, in it's previous incarnation, it was a brief description of the biography questions a member of a given race would have to answer. I'm readding the information. Aqua (T|C) 17:01, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
That's fine to put it on I guess, but a link to biography would still help if people want to see the full descriptions. Mora 18:12, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Thief's weapon combination mechanic

Any reason why my edit was undone? It is a vital infomation since a thief doesn't need to purchase two of the same offhand weapon for each weapon set. Talk to me. Thanks. --Sir Vincent III 16:48, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

The ability to leave a one-handed weapon slot empty in a weapon set and have it auto-filled by the same weapon in the other set is not specific to the thief - any profession with weapon swapping can take advantage of it. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png
But what is specific to the thief is that, unlike the other professions, having no offhand in one set but having an offhand in the other set does not allow the thief to have access to the dual wield weapon skill like Stab for having only a main hand in one weapon set. A thief will have to remove all offhand weapons from their weapon slots to trigger this weapon skill. --Sir Vincent III 17:05, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Pet healing skills edit

The page is listing skills that heal directly, not ones that apply regeneration. Skills that grant the boon should be listed on the regeneration page. Mora 04:13, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Your recent edits, removing information from condition pages

Hi Mora. We've had a discussion before about over-abbreviating articles because the information seems obvious to you. It took me a long while to standardize all the individual condition and boon articles, placing specific information about what they contain, and what they don't contain, and why. This information may seem obvious to you, but it makes things crystal clear to many readers, and especially to editors who feel the urge to add skills, traits, etc... when those skills should not be added (because they affect all conditions and are already referenced on the general Condition or Boon page). So that information is useful and it has greatly reduced, if not stopped, those sporadic urges to wrongly add stuff to the those pages. Now you're removing the info, and replacing it with a "see also", which is nowhere near as explicit and explanatory. Could you please leave those sentences in place at the beginning of every section as they were? It is useful and pertinent information, which is what "articles" are made of. --Alad (talk) 17:41, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

Those notes are incredibly redundant and unnecessary. Why would there need to be a note saying the same thing in up to 4 sections saying that a list of skills/traits/equipment/consumables on a bleeding page are about bleeding? And the pages are still a mess with general information being on each of the individual condition pages (here or here for example). And what is the point of adding a completely empty section to pages (here)? Your "notes" and edits made each page a mess and they need to be cleaned up. Mora 18:42, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
The previous discussion was fairly short-lived, I think it would be appropriate to revisit the topic of redundant information vs clarity. Felix Omni Signature.png 18:46, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
Well Mora, it seems you misunderstood those notes. Perhaps you or someone else can find a better way to say what's required to be said in each section, namely:
  1. The skills/traits/equipment/consumables listed here affect this condition specifically, and not all conditions and not any condition, randomly. A skill which specifically applies bleeding is to be listed on the bleeding page, but not a skill which removes all conditions, or a skill which applies any 3 conditions randomly.
  2. These skills/traits/equipmet/consumables listed here may not be all the skills that exist which affect bleeding. There may be other skills which affect all conditions or any condition, randomly, including bleeding, and those skills can be found on the general Conditions page.
The reason I went through the trouble of adding this to all condition and boon pages was because people were looking at the bleeding page and saying "oh, this skill, which applies bleeding randomly, isn't listed here! I'll add it!". Since I've put those notes, such urges and errors have been reduced to almost zero. I'm claiming it's thanks to these explicit notes. Removing them and simply adding a "see also" will cause this problem to come back.
Now if you or the majority here, doesn't like those notes, then to hell with the notes, but I won't be cleaning up those pages any more. (And as you have noted in the links you mention, there are still errors to be cleaned up.)
Our dear Relyk attempted to make changes to the Weakness page, removing my clear and "redundant" notes and replacing them with a bunch of necessary edits. We had a discussion about it here. As I said to Relyk, those pages should be auto-generated and nobody should be able to edit them. In fact I'm willing to make a proposal to limit editing of combat mechanics pages to only the sysops or a small handful of people who know and have agreed on what the mechanics pages should contain (all profession, skill, trait and effect pages).
I've been teaching for many years. I know the value of explicit and clear information, and that of repetition in the right circumstances. Even if it's redundant, if it causes people to understand clearly, then it's a plus, and is useful. People do not read ALL the page most of the time, but only the section that interests them. You can consider the repetition of that sentence just as redundant as the horizontal line which is repeated over and over under the title of every section. It makes things clear, so we put it there. --Alad (talk) 23:01, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
Where were these rules decided and why are they "required"?
Any skill that applies an effect, even if randomly, should be included on the page; the skill causes the effect. What makes the difference if a skill causes all 9 boons, or just 5? The skill should be listed on all the boon pages that the skill grants. "Save Yourselves!" is listed on on 7 boon pages, but you removed Consume Plasma because it grants 2 additional boons?
Can you please link to a few of these edits that you had to clean up or prevent? Because I looked through the bleeding page history and couldn't find any edits other than the ones that weren't even cleaned up in the first place. The weakness page has had exactly zero issues that you're claiming since the removal of your notes.
"In fact I'm willing to make a proposal to limit editing of combat mechanics pages to only the sysops or a small handful of people who know and have agreed on what the mechanics pages should contain (all profession, skill, trait and effect pages)." I'm not completely certain how the wiki-stuff works, but protecting huge sections of wiki from edits seems incredibly unlikely to happen. Mora 23:49, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) "Our dear Relyk attempted to make changes to the Weakness page, removing my clear and "redundant" notes and replacing them with a bunch of necessary edits." You make it sound so pretentious ^_^. There isn't much discussion on formatting of conditions articles in specific, but you seem bound and determined to write the articles they way you think they should be presented. I say this because to quote: "Now if you or the majority here, doesn't like those notes, then to hell with the notes, but I won't be cleaning up those pages any more." and "If you think the sentence I wrote isn't nice, I don't mind you changing it, provided you convey all the information, so that people will know to look there too for additional skills, and to not add skills here if they're already listed there.", along with feeling ownership of the condition articles you put work into. I understand that if someone makes major changes, you'll be defensive about it (which is why I went to your talk page instead of instantly changing everything). It's better to broach the issue on the CP or general formatting so we have more input on it instead of "my opinion" versus "your opinion" on talk pages. And don't make it a "Since I disagree with the majority, I just won't edit shit anymore", because we all lose out on that.
I still think many subsections are overkill and unnecessary as we have better ways to organize the information; I disagree with the "people only read the section they want or interested in", we're making it harder by splitting the article in so many subsections. This is a formatting style carried over from the first wiki, so I doubt it will change much. As far as conveying article related to conditions in general or articles specific to an article, that should be implied in the article structure instead of stating "stuff related to conditions in general is on the effect type article and stuff on a specific condition in on this article". The "see also" section tags is more than enough for explicitly stating the relationship. It's the same issue we've had with related trait sections on utility pages, where it's related to the skill itself or related to the skill type.
As for automating the lists, it's not happening. It was the same reasoning for skill pages. Many articles are related under special conditions (think the special conditions section) that make it impossible to populate the sections even if we did have properties to query. A primary example is stun break skills, where we can generate it User:Relyk/SMW/query apart from the special case of Virtue of Courage.--Relyk ~ talk < 00:01, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Willpower

Here is proof that willpower was not related to guardian virtues at all. It was related to Endurance, then known as Energy. Here is proof that Altruism was an attribute used by guardians to recharge their Virtues faster. Here you can see that Altruism was originally created as an attribute for recharging virtues faster. Psycho Robot (talk) 00:24, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

  • Here and here is proof that Altruism was a trait for virtues, not an attribute. "{{Trait infobox | guardian = yes | g-line = Valor..."
Although neither are very relevant at this point, it was posted as the virtue attribute on the official blog, and I have never heard it used for endurance. Mora 01:39, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
Weird. But I will fight to the death to keep this single blip of trivia and unused redirect pointing at what I set it as. Let this be our battleground. Psycho Robot (talk) 01:52, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
Willpower may have been related to Energy, but Energy != Endurance. Endurance is the end result of the iterative development of the Energy system, but the current mechanics of Endurance are very different from how Energy was used. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 02:01, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

I'm not sure how it should be handled. Mora 20:08, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
Lion's Arch (Under Attack!) is a zone, make new areas inside the zone [[Trader's Forum (Under Attack!)]], [[Fort Marriner (Under Attack!)]] etc to hold the events, pois, dialogue, NPCs etc. Maybe I should have posted this suggestion in a more public page but I was just getting your thoughts as you have contributed most of the events.
While I am there, there are hidden events that never appear on screen and the "Group Effort I" etc that just give rewards. --Claret (talk) 20:14, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
Additionally, there are 5 "Evacuate Lion's Arch Citizens" actual events, not meta. I think ANet is using the event structure in a way that does not fit with our current wiki model. I know that Blizzard made heavy use of "invisible" quests and wonder if this is not a similar behaviour. --Claret (talk) 20:18, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Adding ids to infoboxes

Hello, I see you're adding ids to the whispers stuff. I'm looking at this edit - if the item truly has two ids, then please write it as | id = 5747, 5338 (comma separating multiple values). If one of them points to the wrong item, then remove the false one... in this case I can see the API indicates that 5747 is a totally different item. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:47, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

evidently if you could confirm the ingame item name that'd be great. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:48, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
The previous IDs were PvP versions. I didn't think it was necessary to keep those in the infobox because each was removed in-game, and the pages are about the "real" versions of the items. But all of the armor names are incorrect. Mora 23:10, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

Reverting your edits to the new Nomad's ascended amulets

Thank you for undoing some of the edits I made to the Ogden's Ankh and Aspect Amulet pages. Since these items are indeed in the game, and you reverted the information I had altered with no basis, I will urge you to actually do some research prior to destroying the work of others on this wiki. Just in case you still are too lazy to log into the game and actually check the laurel vendor, here is an image[1]

Have a nice day. TheBlackLeech (talk) 03:20, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

The Mastery achievements' ascended trinkets only show up at vendors after completing Saud achievements. These may be similar, requiring something to be done before they show up at vendors. Mora *did* look at vendors per the edit summaries. Less hostility should be taken, Leech. Since they don't show up all the time, the claim of doing research goes both ways. They exist, but have requirements. So, what has Leech done that Mora hasn't? Konig 03:40, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
I could upload a screen shot showing that the laurel vendor does not have either item, but it'd be easier for you to answer the simple request: "If there are other requirements, please add them."
Also, are those the correct descriptions that you reverted? Mora 03:59, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

Both of you are misinformed, the ascended amulets are always available to anyone at any laurel vendor except the WvW one. Konig, you are confusing the rings and earrings with the amulets, and Mora, I'd love a screenshot. TheBlackLeech (talk) 05:20, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

No, they are not. Mora 05:29, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

Well.... I owe you an apology; I'm very sorry. TheBlackLeech (talk) 13:11, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

Your Revert of Guild missions

While I agree there was a degree of redundancy, I was attempting to rectify a glaring omission. This page is written for Guild Leadership. There is nothing oriented to the perspective of a player, particularly a new player, who may be unfamiliar with game mechanics. Consolidation of the needed information in a single location may be quite helpful for such a player. A discussion prior to deletion would have been appreciated. ~ 1Maven (talk) 18:27, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Reward track progress stuff

Hiya! I see that you just reverted some changes I made. I changed "major reward bar" and "minor reward bar" to tier and slice, as that is (to what I have witnessed) the lingo used in game right now. I have also been working on a table and graphics.

I don't want to get into an editing war over this, so I'll just leave my proposed changes here and you can let me know what you think. Leen (talk) 04:07, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Reward Track Progress

Progress can be made in two ways:

  1. Consuming a Potion of PvP Reward which are obtained from Daily achievement reward chests that have a PvP objective.
    • Potions progress the track by exactly half a slice (1.25% of full track)
  2. By playing matches. The different types of arenas provide different amounts of progression per game: rated (unranked and ranked) arenas provide more than custom arenas. Reward track progress is not related to PvP rank points[1].
    • Custom arena progress is capped at two tiers per day to avoid botting[2], thus requiring a minimum of four days to complete. The cap is reset every day at the daily reset time. Rated arena progress has no such cap[2].
    • Top stat bonuses do not affect progress[3].
    • Progress is increased by 10% while under the effect of Celebration Bonus.
Match outcome Reward track progress Repetitions needed

to complete track

% of slice % of track
Unranked/Ranked Arena win ~140% ~3.5%
Custom Arena win ~90% ~2.2%
Unranked/Ranked Arena loss ~70% ~1.7%
Custom Arena loss ~45% ~1.1%

Picture (work in progress): http://i.imgur.com/xkZHNM9.png

Players can only make progress on a single reward track at a time. Switching between tracks will save any progress made, and players can return where they left off.

There is no known way to reset a reward track without finishing it. Upon completion of a reward track, the next reward track with the most progress is automatically activated.

Reward track progress is linear and is the same for all tracks[1].

All I did was add a section for modifiers and changed the term "slice" back to what it was because I've never see anyone refer to it as that and I didn't see the point in creating a new term instead of keeping it consistent and clear. Mora 04:51, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
Fair enough. I have never heard anybody use "minor reward bar" in the game, and it sounds overly stilted to me. According to a friend of mine, "slice" was first mentioned in an episode of Ready Up, although I don't personally recall that. Leen (talk) 06:28, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

New race icons

Hey, Mora. I'd like to point you out to this discussion about changing races' icons. I think it would be cool if you could join us! :D – Valento msg 12:06, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

Oh my, you are actually doing them already! Norn one is a bit too complicated, isn't it? – Valento msg 22:22, 8 May 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, those weaving and looping things are tough and really get lost on smaller versions. Mora 22:49, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

Help fixing link

I added an entry to Launch#Environmental weapon skills that cause launch for {{item icon|Kodan Hammer|Koda's Hammer}}, but the link points to Kodan Hammer instead of Koda's Hammer. How can this be fixed? ~ 1Maven (talk) 12:16, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

Koda's Hammer Revert

It's not an actual hammer, it's a bundle/transform that looks like a hammer.

— Mora

I agree, but do not understand how a rarity can be assigned to a bundle that does not have any tooltip. If any rarity is assigned to such a powerful bundle-weapon then I would expect it to be exotic, ascended or better, not basic. This is not made clear in the current form of the article. ~ 1Maven (talk) 15:21, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

It does have a tool tip and the item sold by the vendor is clearly a basic item. The page is about the service item, not the bundle. But the functionality of the bundle is merged into the page because there is no visiable effect or object given from the item in-game. Mora 15:40, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

Ogre Pet Whistle

15:34, 8 June 2015‎ Revert: Why do you feel that the pets section belongs under a Consumable like Ogre Pet Whistle rather then an area like Gladefall Run or a POI like Newglade Kraal? Did you intend to remove the map showing the location at the same time? ~ 1Maven (talk) 16:23, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

They're the pets from the consumable, which is the entire purpose of the consumable. The map is on the NPC's page where it belongs. The summoned allies are not ranger pets. None of the changes were correct. Mora 16:28, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for the clarification. ~ 1Maven (talk) 18:09, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

Wardrobe

19:20 13 June 2015 replacement of Wardrobe Storage with a REDIRECT eliminates unique information that is not present in either Account vault or Wardrobe. Is there a plan to deal with this? Wardrobe Storage (in Account vault) is an independent interface with different mechanics then Wardrobe (in the Hero panel). ~ 1Maven (talk) 20:10, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

What unique information? The page was a a merge of the two existing pages, so there was no purpose of it. And the Wardrobe Storage is not an independent interface, it is in the same panel as the account vault. Mora 20:18, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
Arrrgh! It will be faster to do then explain. ~ 1Maven (talk) 21:20, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Why are you removing notices that wardrobe sub-pages are incomplete and out-of-date? ~ 1Maven (talk) 02:25, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

Because I'm updating them. Clear your cache for a page and it should add ~9 skins for each. And putting a stub on each page isn't too helpful, simply comment on the template page should work because that links them all together and will bring it to someone's attention to hopefully edit them. They're all going to be "stubs" in a few weeks when they add another Black Lion skin. Mora 02:30, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
My "cache" is the wiki watchlist and the history, which both have been refreshed (cache cleared) and indicate deletion without update. However, if you are planning to do the updates soon then I don't need to understand why you seem to complicate the process by splitting it into two separate steps that could be done together. If that's the process that works for you, fine. ~ 1Maven (talk) 02:46, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
If you actually look at the wikicode for those pages, you'd see they all use Template:Wardrobe. That template uses the data from the subpages of Chat link format/0x0B codes. Thus, putting a stub template (or any other notice) on each individual Wardrobe subpage is useless, because you can't do anything to change the page content directly on those pages.
Mora has updated the data on the chat link subpages, so if you "purge" the Wardrobe subpages, they will show new icons for the data that he just added. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 04:26, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
Thank you both. I figured that out on my own. I will only point out, for future reference, that 1 or 2 words of explanation in the edit-page-summary (for example: "updated") would have precluded the need for this entire thread. ~ 1Maven (talk) 10:04, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
Or you could look at Special:RecentChanges or even Special:Contributions/Mora to see what else Mora might be doing at the same time. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 13:27, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
That is true, but I am a novice, not a moderator or someone interested in correcting the errors of others. As such, I am still learning and I am far less interested in what Mora is doing, except when it directly impacts what I am doing, then the reverse. It's a matter of perspective. However, I do appreciate attempts to educate novices like myself. ~ 1Maven (talk) 14:45, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

Elementalist specs

Sorry for breaking the stuff you were doing! LOL I didn't notice they removed the "Magic" from elementalist specs. I'ma cover my ears before I'm yelled at. – Valento msg 20:48, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
