For these achievements, should we[edit]

For these achievements, should we have redirect pages funneling here? For instance, I just searched for 'Ranged Master' and was popped into the search results listing. This page was indeed at the top, but I'm not sure if that will always be the case. Thoughts? Redshift 11:16, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

For the magic and ranged master, in the BWE I completed the achievements (Tier 7). 300,000 Damage in one Hit. Can anyone else confirm this? -5 May 2012

All Combinations[edit]

--> You don't have to play one of the combinations. You can play all 8 classes to get all achievements. (Just saying!)

Not sure who added this unsigned comment, but you in fact *must* have one of the combinations listed. If you play all eight, you will have met the "must" requirement and would be playing one of (all of) the listed combinations. Think like system specs. You must have X to play. Obviously you can have more! This listing is for those, like myself who want to know what chars they need if they don't want to buy more slots.Quiznos (talk) 16:34, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

These combinations are the possible subsets you can add other classes to to get all combinations!

You must play one of the combinations of professions listed below to get this achievement:

guardian, warrior, thief (44)

guardian, engineer, ranger (the lowest total weapon combinations 28)

warrior, ranger, mesmer (46)

warrior, thief, mesmer (42)

warrior, engineer, ranger, elementalist (44)

warrior, engineer, ranger, necromancer (50)

warrior, ranger, thief, elementalist (49)

warrior, ranger, theif, necromancer (the highest total weapon combinations 55)

Solved via boolean math.

Warrior can't perform killing blows with the warhorn so if warrior is in the combination you need either a necromancer or ranger as well. Sjacie User:Sjacie 16:25, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
I did not even think about that I'll correct it when I get the chance. Quiznos 18:40, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
Also Necro can't use focus for a killing blow. Should these two things be noted in the aquisition section instead of at the bottom? Quiznos 21:47, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

How do Warrior/Mesmer/Thief and Guardian/Warrior/Thief get warhorn kills? --Rooks 21:07, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
Note that you also get credit when enemy projectiles get reflected by your skill and kill him. Not really effective way to get 1000 kills, but it's theoretically possible in WvW/sPvP --Fay, 83.26.175.6 20:52, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
Mesmer torch gives no weapon mastery (condition damage or phantasm attacks only). By my reckoning, the only working combinations of three professions are Warrior, Mesmer, Ranger and Guardian, Ranger, Engineer. Didn't extend the testing out to 4 professions because setting it up for three in excel was enough of a pain. SarielV 20 x 20px 20:58, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
Also checked with Elementalist with Sword, since utility skills give sword kills. Didn't affect the three profession ccombinations. SarielV 20 x 20px 20:58, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

Trivia[edit]

Anyone think this is a reference to Soul Calibur II? Quiznos 21:08, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Verification Requested[edit]

"To acquire weapon related achievements, you need to obtain a specific amount of kills with your weapon abilities. Note that if you are wielding two weapons only the weapon related to the weapon skill that strikes the killing blow will earn a point. Apparently, if the target dies to condition damage you will not earn a point at all."

Took me a few tries, but verified none-the-less. If I could video it I would, but until the game is better optimized my comp just can't handle gw2 and fraps. I think it only makes sense as conditions can stack and thus the killing blow could be from multiple weapons. Quiznos 02:24, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
I vouch for all of this. I personally had several staff, axe and riffle kills on my thief from using various bundles. My friend said that during the last decision point in Orr's personal story, if you pick the Priory option, the "bundle" you use in a later mission gives Axe kills. In general though due to the limited availability of these bundles it is not a practical way of earning any of these achievements. — Poki#3 My Talk Page :o 03:27, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
For what it's worth, I also noticed that the heart in the beginning of Caledon Forest in which you shapeshift into a fern hound and play with puppies/repel spiders gives you staff kills. Makes me wonder what they base these correspondences on. Salvatos 09:23, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
Makes it even more of a bummer that the tool kits don't count towards any weapon master achievement. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 16:46, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

It's a part of the End-Game! Lol. I'd suspect a title track of some kind for overall points. I've noticed it does display next to player characters portraits. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Quiznos (talk • contribs) at 16:15, 20 July 2012 (UTC).

Bug in Sword Master Achievement?[edit]

Is there a known bug in the sword master achievement? I play a necromancer right from the start and just hit level 80 but i already have 500 kills in the sword master achievement. I recently got the 500 kills message while using scepter/dagger build. Zeiti77 09:01, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

You only played necro so far? Because the achievements are account-wide. Also, please remember to sign your comments with your tildes. Mediggo 07:49, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
When i received the 500 kills for sword master i also had a level 4 engineer and a level 2 thief. But i picked up the sword for the thief only after i got the 500 kills. Zeiti77 09:01, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
Environmental weapons, disguises, etc - anything that gives you different weapon skills - can count as something else for the Weapon Master achievement. For example, there's a mission where I got to man a golem battlesuit. Killing things while inside the golem gave me progress towards the Hammer Master achievement. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 10:04, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
It could even be one of the necromancer's own mechanics, like minions? Mediggo 10:31, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
Yeah must be something like that. I picked up an "enviromental sword" once for sure but i never killed 500 foes with it. 500 is quite a number killwise. So minions sounds like a good point. I've been using them right from the start. Also i am using wells a lot. Is it possible that combo fields have something to do with it? Zeiti77 10:37, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
On a related note, I wonder what it is that's giving my engie all those staff kills. I've used no envoweaps whatsoever, yet the staff kills are racking up. I'm beginning to suspect turrets. — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 10:58, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
I believe a guildmate noted that kits count as staffs, but I don't know if he had tested turrets. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 13:01, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Arcane Blast and Arcane Wave count as sword kills. - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 02:29, 29 October 2012 (PDT)

Oddly enough, I was fooling around on my ele last night, who uses a staff all the time. I got completion of Sword Master (5000 kills) even though the highest progress I've made on ANY weapon master achievement is ~2500 or so. I know I didn't play THAT much. Definitely seems like a bug... I was in Plains of Ashford, where there are approximately zero long-term environmental weapons, and my two utility skills are Glyph of Storms and Mist Form. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 17:31, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
Maybe i can confirm this because i just won 500 sword uses while fighting low level wildlife with scepter/focus attuned to fire. What i first though it that it was giving it to me because of a friendly NPC using a sword, but i'm not sure she was using a word. It was an Ash legion spy. TulipVorlax 22:51, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Weapon Master with Environmental weapons, Disguises and Profession Skills[edit]

There are some utility skills and some disguises / environmental weps that count as weapons. I'm making a list of known skill/disguises/environmental weps that count towards this

Feel free to add anything to the list. --Universe 14:42, 25 November 2012 (UTC)

Added Iron Legion Turret, sniper rifle, Overminer's boomstick, Iron Legion Mortar, Asuran Turret, Ether Mine, Mine Seed, Inferno Hound, Raven Illusion, Enchanted Armor, Siege Golems, mesmer illusions, necromancer minions. SarielV 20 x 20px 05:57, 9 March 2015 (UTC)
At one point the Ele skills might have counted but they no longer do. I just tested all the conjured weapons for the ele on some poor unsuspecting frogs, but they did not up the weapon kill count for anything. - Doodleplex 09:36, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
Added ranger pets. They count towards staff. Only tested with a Snow Leopard but going by the fact that I have more "staff" kills than anything else with my ranger (only character I played so far), it's safe to assume it's most pets I used extensively, which includes Fern Hound, River Drake, and Brown Bear. And if it's not all pets I would strongly assume that it's class-based, so if Fern Hound is staff, most likely all dogs are, etc. Anyway, testers welcome. 109.91.39.142 21:24, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
I just noticed that the body of this page claims in some section that ranger pets count as greatsword. I fixed the page to say it's GS or Staff, and added GS to the list above. We should definitely test which pets count as which weapon. I'll do it later if I find time. 109.91.39.142 21:29, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
Did some tests today; results added above. 109.91.39.111 17:53, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
Improved the formatting, ordered everything alphabetically and added links. Also removed Reaper's Shroud from the Disguises section, as it already appears in the Profession skills section. --Kazerniel (talk) 13:24, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
Added arrow carts and photon forge under staff entries. I think cannons in WvW are the same (staff) - not sure. Does photon forge count as an engineer skill for this list? Or a disguise? --WarBlade (talk) 20:26, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
I would go by the logic that disguises are the ones that are open to any profession to use. While with disguises coming from profession skills the profession is the "bottleneck". --Kazerniel (talk) 12:07, 22 February 2018 (UTC)

Master of Overkill[edit]

I've done 300,000 damage in one hit (Tier 7) by using Red Button on a rat scattered around Fort Cadence. Geekfox 02:28, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

I was only getting 245,000 or so until I stood right back at the edge of the flamethrower's range and hit the rat. Then, first shot. Rotheche (talk) 03:05, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

You are guaranteed to get this achievement in the Toxic Waste Room of the Crucible of Eternity story dungeon. Pick up a gun, shoot a radiation orb, and done. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 21:28, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

AFK Farming[edit]

Concerning the second tip, idling with skills on autoattack, is this allowed by Arenanet? Is there a dev post somewhere?

Lately they've been incredibly vague with what is and is not an exploit Turinpt
For what I've read, it'll be OK as long as the input is directly made by a living, breathing person who has permission to use the account without breaking the user agreement, like watching a movie or something while you press '1' and the game is kind of behind the video player. If you use some program that will automatically press the buttons for you, then that'll be no different from botting, and you'll get in trouble if they detect it. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 21:51, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Not to burst your bubble but...turning on the auto attack and going afk is considered an exploit by Anet. It's also considered an exploit if you'd setup some turrets and go afk. Know it's weird because it's an ingame option after all, but still, not allowed. 80.112.180.106 18:38, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
Do you have proof of that? An Anet employee saying specifically that using turrets or the auto-attack functionality while AFK is a bannable exploit? —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 19:29, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
Nothing I can link, but there have been a number of threads on the official forums regarding the placement of turrets near a karma event and then going to quest elsewhere in the zone. Even though it only used resources provided by the game, ArenaNet still banned people for it because they gathered karma without actually playing. 80.112.180.106 16:02, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
If they went to quest elsewhere in the zone, they were still playing. I don't believe anyone has been banned for that. Felix Omni Signature.png 16:27, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
I personally got a 72 hour suspension for setting up turrets and going afk. I would strongly suggest against this approach. Initia Nova 21:00, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
And what about pets? As ranger there's no possible way for me to disable pet, and sometimes I go AFK in areas that I consider safe, but they are not, and when I turn back there're mob corpses lying nearby... This is just ridiculous. MalGalad 21:11, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Other Endless White Mob Streams[edit]

I've noticed that in the Asura personal story "Forging Permission", one also has a chance to kill a never-ending stream of white mobs (can't quite remember what they are, but they're right near the beginning). Not sure if this should be added as well because of how specific a choice one would have to make to be able to farm these. ~Miss Lana 04:14, 24 August 2015 (UTC)

Speargun vs. Harpoon Gun[edit]

The Speargun and Harpoon Gun have separate achievements. However, they are the same weapon. I'm on my Thief right now, and he gets credit for Speargun.

I think we need a pair of lists showing which weapon belongs to which professions. If anybody can confirm either weapon (or both?) for the other professions, please list them below. Once we have a full list, I will add the info in a Notes section or maybe the aquatic section. Daddicus (talk)

It is Harpoon, not Harpoon gun. The harpoon is another name for the Spear. Harpoon/Spear is the simple bladed weapon, Harpoon gun/speargun is the projectile weapon. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 19:56, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
OK, no worries then. Thanks! Daddicus (talk)
Anet really screwed up on these names, IMO. In the API, they're called "Harppon" and "Speargun" but in the item tooltips they're called "Spear" and "Harpoon Gun." The key is "gun" - if it has "gun," it's referring to the one that shoots things; if it doesn't, it's referring to the one that pokes things. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 00:15, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
They screwed up on a lot of little stuff... they may have a staff economist, but they did not have any expertise in several areas when they named things. For example, when you log pine saplings, you get hardwood. Anyone who knows wood at all knows that pines are a very very soft wood.--Obloodyhell (talk) 07:17, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
That's what I figured out (from the above comments). The weapons themselves are sometimes called by different names than the ones that the achievement(s) refer to. I guess that's OK, since they do it elsewhere (many crafted weapons are called by different names once made, like Hylek and Ogre weapons). It's a little goofy, but not too bad.
But this one adds "gun" which is already used, so it's a bit confusing. I think I'll add a note about the name of the Speargun achievement. Daddicus (talk)
Looks like one of those remants of discarded things that never made it to the game, or where never completely polished, like polearms, or how 'defeat' and 'revive' are somtimes called 'resurrect' and 'death', or old names for stats like "Malice" for condition damage. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 21:27, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

Ambient creatures[edit]

It appears ambient creatures no longer count as kills for these achievements. Can someone please confirm? Daddicus (talk)

Untrue. Make sure the kill isn't due to condition damage or via a phantasm/minion/elemental/pet/spirit weapon. SarielV 20 x 20px 23:33, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
Disproved. Ambient creatures from WvW still count. Stealing Light endless spider spawn still works. HOWEVER, the blast from Sigil of Fire does NOT work anymore. Made multiple edits to highlight the nerf. Drunken Bulldog (talk) 21:23, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

warhorn[edit]

I don't think this article has been updated in a while, but I find tempest warhorn is pretty good for leveling your warhorn kills. --Life Infusion «T» 04:11, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Elementalist Overload[edit]

I believe overloads count as the mainhand weapon. At least that is what was happening while using overload air with scepter. --Life Infusion «T» 21:54, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Necromancer Warhorn[edit]

After the April 23rd, 2019 patch, the damage from Locust Swarm was changed to Life Siphon, because of this change, kills with the Necromancer Warhorn no longer count, and it is impossible to complete the warhorn master achievement on Necromancer.

  • It is possible to get kills on any weapon available to the necromanser by using the shroud skills instead (only tested on core shroud)

Pistol[edit]

With the latest changes on Feb 25 2020 to thief pistol providing piercing via Deadly Aim, engineer mainhand pistol is not the only legitimate option (mesmer pistol is out of the question as it is an offhand). --Life Infusion «T» 19:45, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

Confirmed. Thief is very fast with Deadeye and piercing. Finished the achieve in 62 minutes. Drunken Bulldog (talk) 21:26, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

Sigil Of Fire[edit]

Request confirmation on the Sigil of Fire changes. I unequipped Sigil of Fire on dual pistol thief and was able to auto-attack the kills much faster with piercing. I verified it on >4 blasts that it only triggers 1 kill per blast of up to 5 spiders on Stealing Light. I also confirmed it with rifle (which has no piercing option in Deadeye). Kills were only giving 1 credit to each blast and I was unable to clear out the mob. Recommend rifle go to a class that isn't Deadeye as Sigil of Fire isn't useful anymore. Drunken Bulldog (talk) 21:29, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

PvP[edit]

I think PvP kills don't count towards this achievement. WvW kills definitely do. --Life Infusion «T» 19:17, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
