Power Untamed is a simple yet strong choice for all aspects of PvE gameplay. It does great damage with a simple rotation and can provide itself with most essential offensive and defensive boons: Might, Fury, Quickness, Protection, Vigor, Stability and Aegis. It can be adjusted to supply Quickness to allies without any adjustments to gear whatsoever.

Unleash Pet and Unleash Ranger[edit]
- On Untamed, you have the choice between two skill sets for your pet: Unleash Pet will replace your pet skills with Venomous Outburst, Rending Vines, and Enveloping Haze. All of these are instant cast and can be used during other skills.
- In Unleash Pet, you also become more resilient via Vow of the Untamed, which gives a 25% damage reduction.
- Contrary to that, Unleash Ranger will make Vow of the Untamed give 25% increased damage dealt, meaning that you want to spend as much time as possible in Unleash Ranger for damage purposes.
- Additionally, once you go into Unleash Ranger, Unleashed Ambush skills replace your auto attack for 4 seconds. This can happen once every 10 seconds. These are very strong abilities that deal damage, siphon health and/or apply CC. As a result, going into Unleash Pet quickly to use all three pet abilities and Unleash Ranger for an Unleashed Ambush is worth doing for the damage gain.
- The default choice for the pet is the Fanged Iboga, as it does high damage with its abilities . Since the dps differences between pets are rather small, you have many options in a sheer endless toolkit of pet skills (more on those in the open world section)
- For Defiance bar damage, I like to use the Juvenile Electric Wyvern.
Weapon Skill Usage & Choices[edit]
- Slash, Crippling Thrust + Precision Swipe make up for a very strong chain of auto attacks, that applies both Might to you and Crippled to foes.
- Pounce is a gap-closer that deals high damage. Also gives Vigor and deals more damage against bosses!
- Serpent's Strike is another gap-closer that deals even higher damage than Pounce, but only to a single target. it also includes a short Evade window, so if you can time it right, you can dodge attacks with this.
- Path of Scars is a ranged skill that pulls enemies to you. This can be used to maintain a good uptime on Twice as Vicious.
- Whirling Defense is the strongest damage ability in full aoe in your kit and the only axe skill that is melee. It applies large amount of Vulnerability, and also makes you reflect projectiles while it is active. Since you cannot move while casting this, you need to look at your positioning before you cast it.
Rotation Concept[edit]
- I use Storm Spirit instead of Exploding Spores for the lower cooldown, coverage of Fury and easier usage. There is no noticeable difference in damage between them anyway: as soon as one spore of Exploding Spores misses, you lose the Knockdown and damage.
- For the opener of the rotation, you can precast "Strength of the Pack!" and "We Heal As One!" to boost your pet for a little higher burst damage.
- Start in Unleash Pet, use Storm Spirit, Frost Trap and the three pet abilities and immediately after, Unleash Ranger.
- From here onwards, use the following skills on cooldown:
- Storm Spirit and Enveloping Haze share the same cooldown, which is why we will go into Unleash Pet to use the three abilities after every cast of Storm Spirit. As soon as possible, Unleash Ranger, use Deft Strike and repeat.
- You can follow the very same concept with a Hammer instead of Sword & Axe. The damage difference between them is small. Getting used to both can help you practice for the benchmark!
Default Skill | Notes |
---|---|
Water Spirit | Area heal, grants Vigor to allies, allowing you and them to [Dodge]] more often. |
Frost Trap | Good damage skill, also gives you Frost Aura for -10% damage taken when you use Pounce or Serpent's Strike inside it. |
Storm Spirit | Strong damage skill, also grants area Fury, allowing you to cover it combined with the Tiger pet. Also applies a Daze and can thus be saved for Defiance bar damage. |
Signet of the Wild | This is just there for the passive ferocity, do not use it. |
"Strength of the Pack!" | Good for the Stability on demand and empowers your pet through the boons it provides to it. Precast this prior to combat start to gain a little bit of damage on your pet. |
CC Skills for breakbar damage:
Gear[edit]
Important Stats in Hero Panel (descending in Importance): If you want to supply Quickness: Make sure to put the Sword and Axe on two seperate bars to enable yourself to weapon swap with just those two weapons!
- At least 50% Critical Chance: Fury gives 40% due to Vicious Quarry, Hunter's Tactics adds another 10% against enemies with a breakbar.
- Maximize Power
- Maximize Ferocity
- For a budget variant, simply replace all ascended armor pieces of Berserker's with rare/exotic Berserker's.
- The secondary weapon set (Axe/Warhorn) is mostly there for ranged gameplay whenever it is needed. You can also apply additional breakbar damage with Call of the Wild, but that requires you to be in melee range when cast.
- Superior Sigil of Air is cheaper than Superior Sigil of Impact and yields similar results on the golem, but it is only single-target and lower damage against bosses with frequent breakbar phases.
- Ascended gear is always ideal, but exotic gear is fine for everything aside from higher-tier fractals
- Ascended Food is always ideal, but never required.
Traits[edit]
- The default specializations for damage are Marksmanship, Skirmishing and of course Untamed.

For OW, it can make sense to make a build more forgiving, so that you can sustain on your own.
Increasing General Survivability[edit]
- The first step to increase survivibility on Untamed is to stay in Unleash Pet to maintain the 25% reduced incoming damage from Vow of the Untamed. This mechanic is really neat, as it gives you on demand damage or survivability.
- Second, we'll swap out Marksmanship for Nature Magic:
Nature Magic | ||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
- This will increase your Concentration, make all Boons you receive apply to your Pet. This allows for an insane synergy with "We Heal As One!" explained below.
- It increases your damage in solo gameplay and costs little damage in group scenarios, making it the ideal allrounder Specialization.
- It will further make your Spirits apply their slam twice, increasing their potency.
- As for utility skills, swap out Frost Trap, Signet of the Wild and "Strength of the Pack!" for Water Spirit, Stone Spirit, "Protect Me!" and Forest's Fortification.
- Forest's Fortification is a massive reduction to incoming damage. During it's time window, try to get as many damage hits in as possible to reduce its cooldown.
- We'll also swap the pets to the Blue Moa Bird and Siege Turtle, as they are a) really tanky and b) include easy sources of Protection!
- Use the survivability food and utility item listed above for another -10% damage taken and 150 Toughness!
- If you can, make use of jade protocols! Jade Tech Offensive Overcharge and Jade Tech Defensive Overcharge give 150 additional Toughness, Vitality, Condition Damage and Power as well as all boons aside from Stability, Resistance and Resolution on entering combat. These effects can be pre-stacked by using an Enchanted Snow Diamond Tonic repeatedly when out of combat. The Protection from this is another free gain to survivability!
- In story instances (or if you don't want the hassle of reapplying protocols), you can abuse the synergy between Relic of the Cavalier and Blast from the Skyscale to apply lots of Aegis, Resistance, Might and Quickness to yourself. It has an internal cooldown of 1 second and thus applies the boons on every hit of Blast.
Boon Coverage[edit]
- For easier Boon coverage, I like to swap to a Relic of the Herald for a large gain to Concentration.
- "We Heal As One!" greatly benefits from Fortifying Bond, as the Boon copied from you to your pet will again be copied to you, extending all of them. This synergy makes yourself a Boon machine.
- The combination of Relic of the Herald, Nature Magic and "We Heal As One!" allows you to cover all essential boons quite easily. But to understand how, you need to follow the basic rotaion of the Quickness build.
- Let Loose makes Unleashed Ambush skills apply Quickness and Might in an area and grants you access to Unleashed Ambushes after swapping weapons. That way, you can apply the boons from Let Loose twice every 10 seconds, covering both Quickness and stacks of Might. Once you understand how this works, you will be able to play Quickness dps anywhere!
- In order to do so, I like to do the following (identical to the Quickness DPS build):
- Unleash Ranger whenever weapon swap becomes available,
- use Deft Strike,
- Swap Weapons and
- use another Deft Strike.
- This combo will not only maintain the boons, but also deal a lot of damage since both ambushes hit in Unleash Ranger. They will also heal you for ~4,000 health per cast and apply a Daze on each, dealing Defiance bar damage.
- Storm Spirit and Furious Grip cover Fury.
- Tail Wind applies Swiftness whenever you swap weapons.
- Stone Spirit, "Protect Me!", Blue Moa and Siege Turtle cover Protection. For the two Pets, set Protecting Screech and Hunker Down on autocast or manually manage them to apply Protection to yourself.
- Stone Spirit will apply area Aegis once, allowing you and allies to block attacks.
Dealing with Conditions and Control effects (CC)[edit]
- In Unleash Pet with Enhancing Impact, every time you apply a Disable, you apply Stability to yourself.
- Forest's Fortification applies Stability on cast.
- Evasive Purity cleanses one damaging and one non-damaging condition off whenever you Dodge.
- "Protect Me!" yields additional Protection uptime, Barrier and a Stun break on demand.
