Walkthrough[edit]

Meet back at the Order Headquarter's in Bloodtide Coast. After a brief cutscene you will be promoted to Lightbringer and charged with finding the whereabouts of Yeng Isen, a supposed traitor to the Order.

Head to Lion's Arch and meet up with Tybalt at Yeng's house. After searching the upstairs and concluding that Yeng has been here recently, Tybalt calls your attention to the basement, where there is a tunnel blocked off by some rocks. Clearing them, you find a long, winding passage underground, which is apparently the place Yeng used to house his animals. Many of them are still around, and some have become hostile due to neglect. Kill them on your way to the quest objective. Once you reach the final chamber, Yeng's body is in the middle of the room, and interacting with it (examine) will trigger a short cutscene, after which you will fight his killer - a Risen Creature. After slaying it, the mission ends, and Tybalt will explain that this sort of creature acts as a scout for Zhaitan - Lion's Arch is in imminent danger of invasion.

Notes:

  • If the "examine" interaction button doesn't appear when standing over Yeng's corpse, it might mean that you have failed to kill all of the escaped creatures on the way.
  • Rangers will have the opportunity to tame a Juvenile Pink Moa in Yeng's basement.
If Tybalt is killed then you may not be able to complete to the next step in the sequence, even after resurrecting Tybalt. If this happens then you may need to reset the instance. For example, by allowing yourself to be killed.

Recruiting the <chosen race>

Valiant
I continue to be impressed with your progress—word just reached the Grove about your order's successful effort to recruit the <race>. I've always been interested in <their advanced alchemical knowledge, and now that they've joined our cause, I look forward to learning more of it. I'm also reliably told that hylek are among the fiercest fighters on Tyria—it will be good to have them with us against the dragons.(If hylek) / the collective intelligence they display. If they are as cunning as I've heard, it will be good to have them with us against the dragons. (If skritt) / the warrior's rage these pacifists exhibit when they fight, and now that they've joined the cause, I look forward to seeing it in person. If they are as fierce as I've heard, it will be good to have them with us against the dragons. (If quaggan)>

It is a shame that their village was destroyed, but at this stage I firmly believe lives are more important than property. When the dragons are defeated, we'll turn our attention to rebuilding, but first things first.
I'm also doing my part to marshal resistance to the dragons. I still intend to smooth things over between the members of Destiny's Edge and reforge us into the great fighting machine we once were, but it's a slow, difficult process that is complicated by the strong personalities, egos, and neuroses involved. I won't give up, though, and neither should you.
May the Pale Tree guide you,

—Caithe

Recruiting the <chosen race>

Slayer,
Glad to hear you're still fighting the good fight with your order. Congratulations on recruiting the <race>. <I've had my run-ins with them, like everyone else in Hoelbrak (grawl) / Most rangers I know (myself included) are impressed by their control over their pets (ogre) / Between their ferocity and their alchemy(hylek)>, but/so I know they'll be valuable allies against the dragons.
Don't dwell on losing the <grawl village/ogre kraal/hylek village>—homes can be rebuilt. The important thing is that you saved lives and secured their help.
I'm still trying to salvage Destiny's Edge, but it's a long, hard road. I won't give up, however: Tyria still needs heroes, and even I don't expect you to do all that needs doing by yourself. I'll keep trying and let you know if and when they come around.

May the Spirits guide you,

—Eir

Recruiting the <chosen race>

I heard about your adventures in <hylek territory / quaggan country / skritt country>.
Congratulations on recruiting them to our cause — <their brute strength and alchemical knowledge will be (hylek) / they may be pacifists, but I can see how they'd be (quaggan) / experienced infiltrators (okay, thieves) will be (skritt) > an asset against the Elder Dragons.
Don't dwell on losing the <hylek village / quaggan village / skritt scratch> — homes can be rebuilt. The important thing is that you saved lives and secured their help.
As for me, I'm heading to our old friend Caudecus's estate to support Queen Jennah as she meets with the charr ambassador. There's a chance Zojja may be there, but I don't expect a joyful Destiny's Edge reunion. In fact, I'll be lucky if she doesn't punch me in the knees.

Keep up the good work,

—Logan

Recruiting the <chosen race>

Ears up, soldier,
I heard about your work with the <chosen race>—well done.
<They may be little more than a pack of feral goofballs, but they know how to fight. My people used to to skirmish with them every chance we got, and they usually held their own (grawl)/They're tough as nails...my people have been skirmishing with them lately near the Brand, but they usually hold their own (ogre)/They may be little more than a pack of twitchy sneak-thieves, but they can be formidable in large numbers (skritt)>, so it'll be good to have them with us against the dragons.
I'd write off their village as an acceptable loss if I were you. An army needs soldier: you can worry about homes after the war's been won.
Some of the members of Destiny's Edge are still trying to salvage something out of that fiasco in Lion's Arch, but for now, I'm staying out of it. I'd rather focus on problems that can actually be solved, and don't involve a lot of tiny hairless freaks whining at each other.

Make the Legions proud. I'll be watching.

Recruiting the <chosen race>

Savant (or whatever your current rank is—you keep moving up so fast it's hard to keep track),

I've been watching your progress since you left to join your order, and I continue to be impressed. Nice work recruiting the < grawl—wild, unruly apes can be a real pain to deal with (Grawl) / hylek—hulking, squishy-skinned brutes can be a real challenge to deal with (Hylek) / quaggan—blubbery, soft-headed babble-mouths can be problematic (Quaggan) > (remind me to tell you about the one I know named Logan), but it sounds like you handled it with aplomb.

Don't let losing their village weigh you down. If it weren't for you, they wouldn't be alive and so having a home wouldn't matter. At least this way there's enough of them left to rebuild.

I'm about to walk into what could be an exciting new development, but it could also be a total waste of my time. Logan (the aforementioned < ape (Grawl) / squishy-skinned brute (Hylek) / babblemouth (Quaggan) >) may be there, as it involves Krytan royalty. I just hope I can keep him from making a < drake's breakfast (Grawl or Hylek) / skritt smorgasbord (Quaggan) > of the entire thing.

Keep up the good work,

—Zojja

Upon entering the Chantry of Secrets
Halvora Snapdagger: There you are, Agent. Go find your partner, Tybalt, and then report for your briefing.
Exit Chantry of Secrets: You are about to leave the story area.
Talk more option tango.png Return to Bloodtide Coast. (Warning: Your story here is not finished. All progress will be abandoned if you leave the area. (Teleports the player to the entrance to the Chantry of Secrets)
Talk end option tango.png Cancel.
(If you helped the Grawl)
Gara: Alone, the grawl would have died off. Because of the Order of Whispers, we survive.
Doern Velazquez: The dragons are a threat to everyone, Gara. I'm pleased that your village has joined the fight against them.
Gara: All this world suffers. We will not stop until these great beasts are dead
(If you helped the Ogres)
Jonkor: Our oldest legends tell truth. The Time of Trial has come once more.
Doern Velazquez: The dragons are a threat to everyone, Jonkor. I'm pleased that your village has joined the fight against them.
Jonkor: This, the ogres know—it is best to have allies. We will stand beside the Order of Whispers.
(If you helped the Quaggan)
Shashoo: The bravery of the Order of Whipers saved quaggan's people. Thank you, for all you have done.
Doern Velazquez: The dragons are a threat to everyone, Shashoo. I'm pleased that your village has joined the fight against them.
Shashoo: Although war is strange to quaggans, quaggans will help the Order of Whispers in any way quaggans can.
(If you helped the Hylek)
Ikniu: Although our elder has died, the villagers survive to fight another day.
Doern Velazquez: The dragons are a threat to everyone, Ikniu. I'm pleased that your village has joined the fight against them.
Ikniu: The Sun God looks down on this world. He watches us. We will not fail.
(If you helped the Skritt)
Ftokchak: The skritt are thankful. We will fight, fight hard against these evil creatures.
Doern Velazquez: The dragons are a threat to everyone, Ftokchak. I'm glad your village has joined the fight against them.
Ftokchak: We're small, but we have no fear. Skritt will be good friends. You'll see.

Talking to your racial ally:

Gara: I am glad to be able to repay the Order of Whispers for saving my tribe. The dragons do things no true god would allow. Perhaps they are none.
Talk more option tango.png How is your tribe faring?
We have not found a new home yet, but they are safe for now. All are ready to answer your call. More grawl will come if you need them.
Talk end option tango.png I hope it doesn't come to that.
Talk end option tango.png Gods won't win this war. We will.
Chieftain Lagula: As promised, I've come to fight the dragons and their minions.
Talk more option tango.png How is the new kraal coming along?
Not as fast as I'd like. Change comes slowly, but we are close to picking a new site for our new home.
Talk end option tango.png I look forward to seeing it once we win the war.
Talk end option tango.png Glad to have you with us.
Jonkor: You saved my life in the Brand before you saved the rest of my tribe. I won't forget there that.
Talk more option tango.png Can the new kraal spare both you and Lagula?
A kraal needs a chieftain, but Lagula is determined to satisfy her oath. I may have to return to oversee things in Lagula's name, but until that happens I'm at your service.
Talk end option tango.png The more ogres we have, the better.
Talk end option tango.png On behalf of the Pact, welcome.
Shashoo: Quaggan is very happy to see you again. Quaggan is here and ready to do all quaggan can to repay you for saving quaggan's people.
Talk more option tango.png Have you found a new home yet?
Coo! Yes, quaggans have. It is far from complete, but quaggans settled on a nice patch outside Lion's Arch. More quaggans are ready to join quaggan if necessary.
Talk end option tango.png We're grateful for your help.
Talk end option tango.png Welcome aboard, Shashoo.
Ikniu: May the Sun God bless you, <Character name>. As promised, I have come to repay the debt I owe you and the Order of Whispers.
Talk more option tango.png How have your people fared since I last saw them?
We are close to settling new grounds, but we are not ready to start building. Rest assured, if you call for our help, the entire tribe is ready to answer.
Talk end option tango.png I look forward to visiting your new home.
Talk end option tango.png All Tyria will benefit from your help.
Ftokchak: Good, <Character name>! Thanks for the help! Wanted to thanks Order of Whispers, too. New friends. Lots of thanks.
Talk more option tango.png What will happen to the skritt village?
We make a new scratch, a new home, and we mourn the dead. But I remember debt-debt to you!
Talk end option tango.png I'm glad to hear that, and I look forward to spending more time with you.
Talk more option tango.png What will you do now?
Now? Stay nearby. Keep watchful eye. When you need skritt... we will come to your call
Talk end option tango.png I'm glad to hear that.
Talk end option tango.png Take care

Talking to Doern:

Doern Velazquez: What are you waiting for? You've a briefing to attend.
Talk end option tango.png Right.

Talking to Demmi Beetlestone:

Demmi Beetlestone: Hi, <Character name>! Long time no see! I think the Prefects are waiting on you.
Talk end option tango.png We'll talk later.

Approaching Tybalt:

Riel Darkwater: ...mustn't take it so hard. I read the report. The mission was a success.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Riel, they were unstoppable, We did all we could, and it was barely enough to save lives.
Riel Darkwater: Your gentle nature is your failing. Have courage.
Riel Darkwater: I see your partner has arrived.
Riel Darkwater: There you are, Agent. Please follow me to the briefing.
Riel Darkwater agrees with <Character name>.

Talking to Tybalt:

Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Good to see you, chum. I was just talking to Riel…er, we need to get to the briefing!
Talk more option tango.png What were you and Riel talking about?
The last mission. The stuff that happened to that village, it was…pretty grim. I mean, we saved the villagers, but…
Ferocity Without us, it would have been much worse.
Even if we fail, we shouldn't stop trying. Not ever.
Talk end option tango.png That's the spirit.
Dignity The Order won't abandon them. They'll relocate and be fine.
I know. It's just…I worry. Right? Yeah. Well, let's hurry on, then.
Talk end option tango.png Put it behind you. We have work to do.
Charisma Compassion is a fine thing. Never lose it.
Hey, I thought I was the cheery one! Thanks, though. I knew you'd understand.
Talk end option tango.png I do.
Talk end option tango.png Keep your mind on the task.
Talk end option tango.png Right, briefing. Let's go.

Mission briefing (cinematic):

Doern Velazquez: We have a situation of critical importance. We've lost contact with Yeng Isen, one of our agents in Lion's Arch.
Doern Velazquez: I fear he's gone rogue and turned against us. If so, he could be taking a lot of secrets with him.
Deorn Velazquez: The very heart of the Order is in jeopardy. I plan to send two of our best operatives to track Yeng down.
Halvora Snapdagger: Was Yeng aware of the master's true identity?
Doern Velazquez: I don't think so, but it's possible. We had to trust Yeng a great deal in order to move him into a prominent position in the city.
Doern Velazquez: Agent, it's time to promote you to Lightbringer, our highest class of operative. Congratulations.
Doern Velazquez: Too bad it comes on the heels of such trouble. We're relying on you to handle the situation.
<Character name>: No trouble that Tybalt and I can't handle. If Yeng Isen betrayed the Order, we'll see he never shares what he know.
Doern Velazquez: Riel, brief the operatives, then return to Lion's Arch and continue in your guise as the commodore's assistant. Keep an eye out for anything unusual.
Riel Darkwater: By your will, Preceptor.

Talking to Riel:

Riel Darkwater: Your last mission was dangerous. Are you certain you're up for another so soon?
Ferocity The dragons aren't going to stop just because I get injured. I'm ready.
A solid point. And one I admire. We're lucky to have your courage among us.
Talk quest option tango.png What are the mission details?
(from here it's the same as in the charming response)
Talk end option tango.png Let's talk more later.
Dignity Absolutely. The world won't save itself!
Your confidence is admirable. Your sense of humor is even better.
Talk more option tango.png What are the mission details?
Talk end option tango.png Let's talk more later.
Charisma It's kind of you to worry, but we can handle anything.
Partnership is good, but there will come a time when you only have yourself to rely on. Mark my words, Lightbringer.
Talk quest option tango.png Noted. Now, what are the mission details?
Yeng Isen is the Keeper of Beasts in Lion's Arch. Whether for back-alley pit fight or the grand gladiatorial pit, he's your man.
Talk quest option tango.png That give him a lot of access and prestige, doesn't it?
Precisely. But it also makes him a target for anyone disappointed in the fights.
Talk quest option tango.png Yeng Isen is missing, and he has many enemies. Got it.
Good luck, Lightbringer.
Talk quest option tango.png Thank you. We'll keep you posted.
Talk end option tango.png I'll keep that in mind.
Talk more option tango.png What's a Keeper of Beasts?
That's the person responsible for training fighting animals used in the gladiator fights.
Talk more option tango.png That give him a lot of access and prestige, doesn't it?
Talk end option tango.png On second thought, I'll get going now.
Talk end option tango.png Let's talk more later.
Talk end option tango.png Give me a moment. I'll be right back.

Talking to Valenze:

Valenze: All right, Lightbringer. Now I can answer those burning questions of yours.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me more about Yeng Isen.
He was born and raised in the Canthan areas of Divinity's Reach. He worked in the gladiatorial arena until he was injured.
Talk more option tango.png Injured? How?
Defending an animal, actually. He beat to death the old Keeper of Beasts in Lion's Arch for abusing them.
Talk more option tango.png And how did the Order get involved?
We helped him hide the body, of course. Then he got the job as the new Keeper of Beasts, and became our eyes and ears in the arena.
Talk more option tango.png Is he really that dangerous?
Not by himself. Simply because he would not turn his coat except for someone he felt was superior. We would not have one of our agents end up in their hands.
Talk back option tango.png Let's talk about something else.
Talk end option tango.png That's enough for now.
Talk end option tango.png That's enough for now.
Talk more option tango.png Does he know many of the Order's secrets?
We don't know. He was a clever one, and I often caught him snooping around the Chantry. Best not to risk it.
Talk back option tango.png Can I ask you another question?
Talk end option tango.png That's all I need to know. Thank you.
Talk end option tango.png Sounds like a rough guy. Good to know.
Talk back option tango.png Can I ask you something else?
Talk end option tango.png Thank you.
Talk more option tango.png What does Yeng Isen know? Is he a danger to the Master of Whispers?
Talk end option tango.png I've heard enough. Thank you.

Talking to Doern:

Doern Velazquez: Yeng was a solid agent with a purpose. He'd never leave his animals. Something happened.
Talk more option tango.png How well did you know Yeng Isen?
I recruited him. Trained him. He was a hell of a slimeball—one of my best con artists.
Talk more option tango.png You don't think he's defected?
Never. Not out of altruism, mind you—I always knew the going price, and I paid him five percent more.
Talk end option tango.png Smart.
Talk more option tango.png Could he have been kidnapped?
Possible, but doubtful. He knew very little. His animals were worth more than any ransom.
Talk end option tango.png I'll keep that in mind.
Talk end option tango.png I'll keep that in mind.
Talk end option tango.png I'll report back as soon as possible.

Talking to Halvora

Halvora Snapdagger: He's a con and a cheat, but I thought Yeng had morals where the dragons were concerned. A pity.
Talk more option tango.png Tybalt could handle this alone. Why send us both?
Together, you and Tybalt can handle anything. Alone…I'm not so sure.
Talk more option tango.png Tybalt's a good friend and a great agent.
He's got a good heart, but don't let friendship cloud your judgement. Tybalt's still rough around the edges.
Talk end option tango.png Yes, ma'am.
Talk more option tango.png Why do you mistrust him?
It's not mistrust. It's…I just don't have the confidence in his work that I have in yours. Now, don't you have a mission to tend to?
Talk end option tango.png Yes, ma'am. I do.
Talk end option tango.png I'll take care of him.
Talk end option tango.png I'll get right on that.

Talking to Demmi:

Demmi Beetlestone: Yeng Isen? The name's familiar—my father used to sponsor his beasts in the arena.
Talk more option tango.png Tyria needs us more than ever.
I agree. I'm glad that you and Tibs are with the Order. We'll find a way to stop the dragons.
Talk more option tango.png What have you been learning here?
Code cracking, infiltration, and espionage! Maybe one day I'll take a position in Lion's Arch and spy on the system like Riel.
Talk end option tango.png You'd be good at that.
Talk end option tango.png We will. Talk to you later.
Talk end option tango.png See you soon.

Talking to Tybalt:

Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Yeng Isen sounds like a snake. One the Order could use...but like a snake, he could turn at any time.
(if you didn't speak with Tybalt before)
Talk more option tango.png What were you and Riel were talking about earlier? (same personality options and responses as before)
Talk end option tango.png Agreed. We need to find him right away.
Exit Chantry of Secrets: You are about to leave the story area.
Talk more option tango.png Return to Bloodtide Coast. (Teleports the player to the entrance to the Chantry of Secrets)
Talk end option tango.png Cancel.

Lion's Arch[edit]

Upon arriving at Yeng's Home:

Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: The door was locked when I got here. Good thing I was raised Iron Legion.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: No sign of Yeng. You check the top floor. I'll head for the basement.

Speaking with Tybalt:

Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: You check the upstairs. We need to find some sign of Yeng's whereabouts, and whether or not he left willingly.
Talk end option tango.png On it.

Reading the ledger in the bedroom:

Ledger: The ledger contains a detailed list of creatures for the arena. There is one column for "Creatures Captured" and another for "Creatures Sold."
Talk more option tango.png Look at the column marked "Creatures Captured."
Lately, Yeng captured rock dogs, breeze-riders, and skelk. The last capture was from a few days ago, but no creature type is listed.
Talk more option tango.png Look at the column marked "Creatures Sold." (Same as below.)
Talk end option tango.png Noted.
Talk more option tango.png Look at the column marked "Creatures Sold."
There's only one recent entry: "A variety of gravelings from Ascalon."
Talk more option tango.png Look at the column marked "Creatures Captured." (Same as above.)
Talk end option tango.png Noted.
Talk end option tango.png Nothing of interest here.

Investigating the bed:

Bed: The bed has been slept in recently. It is unmade.
Talk end option tango.png Noted.

Investigating the wardrobe:

Wardrobe: The wardrobe contains heavy leather clothing, the kind mercenaries and animal keepers wear.
Talk end option tango.png Noted.

Downstairs:

Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Lightbringer! I think I found something!
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: There's a tunnel beyond this pile of rocks. Help me clear it, and we'll see where it goes.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: This place is a mess. Yeng always took care of his animals. Something's gone very wrong.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: I feel as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Stick close to me, okay?

Exploring the basement (cinematic):

Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Yeng Isen used to put on big gladiatorial contests with his beasts. I heard he even sponsored a few of the old Destiny's Edge bouts.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: This must be where Yeng kept his monsters. He took really good care of 'em-better than his employees, that's for sure.
<Character name>: No sign of him, though. Would he abandon all these animals to starvation?
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: No way. Like I said, Yeng liked animals better than he liked people. He was always looking for new creatures to train.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: I wouldn't be surprised if he finally found something he couldn't tame.
<Character name>: Very possible. Maybe something in the cages will give us a clue to what's happened to him.

After the cinematic:

Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Looks like they're running from something. Whatever's back there, it's meaner than they are.

Talking to Tybalt:

Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Look at this place! He could have decorated more, though. A mechanical whatsit here, a superfluous flowerpot there...
Talk end option tango.png A few tapestries with the Order of Whispers emblem on it...oh, wait.

Upon discovering the body:

Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: That's him! It's Yeng Isen. Wow, he's seen better days.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: He was killed recently. Be careful. Whatever it was, it might still be—
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: There! Over there!

After defeating the Risen Creature (cinematic):

Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: It's Orrian! That monster was from Orr! It can't be—not here. Not in Lion's Arch!
<Character name>: Calm down. Have you seen one of those before?
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: It's really rare, some kind of special scout. I read about the only other sighting of one when I worked the file rooms.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Lightbringer...that operative saw it in Port Stalwart just before Zhaitan's minions wiped out the town.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Zhaitan only sends them when he's about to send in his whole army. Lion's Arch is in danger!
<Character name>: Tybalt, are you absolutely sure about this?
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Trust me! We need to warn the Lionguard. Meet me at their fortress on Claw Island, and let's hope we're not too late.
<Character name>: What's on Claw Island?
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: The Claw Island fortress stands in the harbor of Lion's Arch. It's the last defense against invasion from the sea.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: If Zhaitan's going to attack the city, its minions will have to fight their way past the fort.

Talking to Tybalt after the cinematic:

Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: I'm not going to lie, <Character name>. This spooks me. Think about what happened with <racial representative> and the <race>. What if that happened in Lion's Arch?
Talk more option tango.png We won't let that happen. What's Claw Island?
A Lionguard fortress, created as a first line of defense against an Orrian invasion. They need to know what's coming.
Talk more option tango.png It belongs to the Lionguard?
Yeah. Watch Commander Talon runs the operation. He's a tough son of a cuss, but ever loyal to Lion's Arch.
Talk more option tango.png You've seen one of these creatures before?
Seen? No, but I've read about it in my research as an analyst, before I ventured into the field.
Talk end option tango.png We should hurry. I'll see you at the fortress.
Talk end option tango.png I'll see you at the fortress.
Talk more option tango.png You've seen one of these creatures before?
Talk end option tango.png I'll see you there.

My story[edit]

Suspicious Activity.jpg

I reported back to headquarters, and was promoted to Lightbringer. Our next mission is to find a possible double agent, Yeng Isen, before he turns traitor. He hasn't reported in some time, and the order suspects he's betrayed them.

Yeng had captured an Orrian scout—inside Lion's Arch. Tybalt and I are headed to Claw Island, to warn the Lionguard.

My story
