Walkthrough[edit]

The entirety of this mission takes place underwater, so prepare your skills and equipment accordingly.

After talking to Varonos Narrijoo, the Quaggan will detect Icebrood appearing nearby. Find the patch of weak ice (indicated by the quest marker) and get ready to fight - after interacting with it, your mentor destroys it in a cutscene, and enemies begin to appear. You will have some Quaggan Guard NPCs to assist you during the fight, as well as your mentor, Shashoo, and Baroosh / Pastkeeper Oldoo. Sometimes the Guards can't be revived after they are defeated, so try to keep them alive if possible.

If you helped Pastkeeper Oldoo, the magic ritual will cause barriers of ice to randomly appear throughout the battle, damaging and slowing your foes. All of the quaggans will also receive unremovable versions of the Might.png Might, Regeneration.png Regeneration, and Vigor.png Vigor boons. If you recruited Baroosh instead, the quaggans will permanently "enrage", gaining Fury for the duration of the mission.

Each wave of enemies only spawns after all previous waves have been eliminated. The final wave has a boss with a semi-unblockable attack - while the initial damage can be blocked, it freezes the target in an ice shard anyway, making them helpless for a few seconds. After defeating all the enemies of the final wave, the mission ends.

Upon conclusion, you are given Shashoo's Pearl.

Sometimes the mission will get stuck and the evacuation won't complete. Usually this is because one of the corrupted mobs has gotten stuck either above the ice or in the water somewhere. If you get stuck during evacuation and the boss won't spawn, swim around and look for a trapped mob in the water or above you on the ice. If you want to avoid the problem, do this part with a friend. It's a "solo" bug.

Dialogue[edit]

Approaching your order mentor (cinematic):

When a member of the Vigil:
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: This is it, Crusader. The eggs are about to hatch, and attendants are standing by to guide the baby quaggans to safety. We'll keep the icebrood at bay while they escape.
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Varanos[sic] Narrijoo left us some quaggans to help hold the line. She's also making a hole in the ice for the evacuees to swim through. Come on, let's check on her progress.
When a member of the Durmand Priory:
Magister Sieran: We're ready to go, Explorer. The eggs are about to hatch, and attendants are standing by to guide the baby quaggans to safety. We'll keep the icebrood at bay while they escape.
Magister Sieran: Varanos[sic] Narrijoo left us her best fighters to help hold the line. She's also making a hole in the ice for the evacuees to swim through. Come on, let's check on her progress.
When a member of the Order of Whispers:
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: We're on, Agent. The eggs are about to hatch, and attendants are standing by to guide the baby quaggans to safety. We'll keep the icebrood at bay while they escape.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Varanos[sic] Narrijoo left us her best fighters to help hold the line. She's also making a hole in the ice for the evacuees to swim through. Come on, let's check on her progress.

Speaking with your mentor:

Magister Sieran: This place is abuzz with activity... Wait. Can bees buzz underwater? Anyway, we should make sure Varanos[sic] Narrijoo is up to speed and the village defenses are ready.
Talk more option tango.png Did Baroosh arrive ready to fight? (If you completed Enraged and Unashamed)
Is he ever! He showed up a while back, and he's been training any quaggan who will listen about the basics of combat without shame. I think he's making progress, too.
Talk more option tango.png Is Pastkeeper Oldoo's ritual ready?
Talk end option tango.png Excellent. Let's get ourselves ready, too.
Talk more option tango.png Is Pastkeeper Oloo's protective ritual ready? (If you completed Pastkeeper)
Almost. It's a fascinating spell. it should boost the quaggans' resilience and strength so they'll be better able to flee—or fight, if it comes to that.
Talk more option tango.png Speaking of fighting, what about Baroosh? Is he ready?
Talk end option tango.png Good. Let's move out.
Talk more option tango.png Let's review the overall plan.
The icebrood horde is on its way. We have to keep them at bay until the eggs hatch. Then we can clear the way so the quaggans can escape to Hoelbrak, then on to Lion's Arch.
Talk more option tango.png Speaking of fighting, what about Baroosh? Is he ready? (If you completed Enraged and Unashamed)
Talk more option tango.png Is Pastkeeper Oldoo's ritual ready? (If you completed Pastkeeper)
Talk end option tango.png Got it. Let's get ready.
Talk end option tango.png Will do.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: I'll never get used to this underwater business. I'm a field agent, not a lake agent! Anyway, we should check in with the varanos[sic] and make sure everything's ready.
Talk more option tango.png Did Baroosh show up? Is he ready to fight? (If you completed Enraged and Unashamed)
I'll say. He's downright eager. He showed up and promptly started drilling any quaggan who would listen about how to overcome their shame so they can kick icebrood buttocks.
Talk more option tango.png And Pastkeeper Oldoo? Is his ritual prepared?
Talk end option tango.png Sounds good. Let's get ourselves ready too.
Talk more option tango.png Is Pastkeeper Oldoo's ritual ready? (If you completed Pastkeeper)
And how. It's a corker, too. Enhances all the quaggans' speed and strength. They'll move quicker than the icebrood. Burn me, they could even stick around to help us fight.
Talk more option tango.png What about Baroosh? Is he ready to fight?
Talk end option tango.png Good. let's get ready to give the icebrood a proper welcome.
Talk more option tango.png Let's review the overall plan.
We have to ensure the quaggan eggs hatch safely. We need to defend the clutch and clear a path to safety for the evacuees. They're bound for Hoelbrak, and then on to Lion's Arch.
Talk more option tango.png What about Baroosh? Is he ready to fight? (If you completed Enraged and Unashamed)
Talk more option tango.png And Pastkeeper Oldoo? Is his ritual prepared? (If you completed Pastkeeper)
Talk end option tango.png Understood. Let's go.
Talk end option tango.png Agreed.
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Things were in motion when we left, but that doesn't mean they're ready. Let's check in with Varanos[sic]} Narrijoo and make sure everything's in place.
Talk more option tango.png Where do things stand with Baroosh? (If you completed Enraged and Unashamed)
He's been working with the villagers on combat drills, and I'll be damned if he isn't half-bad at it. One fighting quaggan was a surprise, but a whole squad? Amazing.
Talk more option tango.png What about Pastkeeper Oldoo?
Talk more option tango.png[sic] They're about to be tested. We all are.
Talk more option tango.png Where do things stand with Pastkeeper Oldoo? (If you completed Pastkeeper)
Oldoo's protective ritual is almost ready to be cast. It should provide some defense for the evacuees, and some offense for those that stay behind to fight.
Talk more option tango.png What about Baroosh?
Talk end option tango.png Good. Let's get ourselves ready, too.
Talk more option tango.png Once the preparations are ready, what's our plan?
Our top priority is those eggs. We fend off the attacking icebrood and clear a path through the ice for the evacuees to escape. First to Hoelbrak, and then Lion's Arch.
Talk more option tango.png What about Baroosh? (If you completed Enraged and Unashamed)
Talk more option tango.png What about Pastkeeper Oldoo? (If you completed Pastkeeper)
Talk end option tango.png I'm ready.
Talk end option tango.png Done.

Speaking with your quaggan allies:

Shashoo: Quaggan's eggs are almost ready to hatch. So exciting, so scary. Do you think quaggans will escape bad ice once and for all?
Talk end option tango.png Yes. My order won't stop until all Tyria is made safe.
(If you completed Enraged and Unashamed)
Baroosh: The eggs are closer to hatching than quaggan expected. Falooaloo is in for a serious fight. Quaggan will do all quaggan can to protect and inspire others.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks, Baroosh.
(If you completed Pastkeeper)
Pastkeeper Oldoo: Quaggan's ritual of protection is ready. Quaggan may be old, but quaggan will stand fast and defend quaggans' home.
Talk end option tango.png That's all we can ask. Thanks, Oldoo.

Talking to Varonos Narrijoo:

Varonos Narrijoo: Hoo, welcome back. The eggs are nearly ready to hatch. With your help, and all the preparations you helped quaggans make, there may still be hope.
Talk more option tango.png Let's review the evacuation plan.
Of course. Quaggans need you to break through surface ice so newly hatched quaggans can be taken from here to safety. First to Hoelbrak, then to Lion's Arch.
Talk quest option tango.png Is anyone else joining Baroosh on the front lines? (If you completed Enraged and Unashamed)
Talk quest option tango.png Is Pastkeeper Oldoo's protection ritual ready? (If you completed Pastkeeper)
Talk end option tango.png There's always hope.
Talk quest option tango.png Is anyone else joining Baroosh on the front lines? (If you completed Enraged and Unashamed)
Some. Quaggan provided all the inspirational and magical help a varanos[sic] could. Combined with that, Baroosh's contribution may be enough.
Talk quest option tango.png Okay. We're standing by to break the ice.
Good. Shashoo is monitoring the eggs. She will make the decision when quaggans are ready to move.
Talk quest option tango.png Understood.
Talk end option tango.png We're standing by when you're ready for us to clear the ice.
Talk quest option tango.png Is Pastkeeper Oldoo's protection ritual ready? (If you completed Pastkeeper)
Coo! Yes, and it's even better than quaggan expected. It will make quaggans faster, stronger, better able to run, and better able to protect the newly hatched.
Talk quest option tango.png Excellent. We'll break the ice whenever you're ready.
Good. Shashoo is monitoring the eggs. She will make the decision when quaggans are ready to move.
Talk quest option tango.png Understood.
Talk end option tango.png All we need to do now is wait.
Talk end option tango.png We'll see you through this, I promise.

After talking to Varonos Narrijoo:

Shashoo: Oho! Varonos! The eggs are starting to hatch!
Varonos Narrijoo: Coo! Waste no time! Get the pups ready. Quaggans must guide them to safety as soon as they can swim.
Quaggan Defender: OooOOOooo! Enemies in the water, Varonos! Quaggan can sense them!
Varonos Narrijoo: Stupid bad ice. Boo. Boo! BoooOOOoo! Quaggans were so close.
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: We'll clear the way. Just get your people out of here, fast!
Magister Sieran: We'll break through and keep the enemy back so you can get your people out.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: We'll open a hole and you can swim through.
Shashoo: Quaggan will help. Quaggan didn't come this far to fail now.
Varonos Narrijoo: Thank you, thank you! Quaggan will make sure the pups are ready when the ice breaks.

Immediately after her dialogue with Shashoo

Varonos Narrijoo: This is nerve-wracking, but quaggans are doing better than expected. Falooaloo might survive this after all.
Talk end option tango.png That's the plan.

Talking to Shashoo:

Shashoo: Quaggan must be brave. Quaggan will be brave! Quaggan is ready to fight, now and for quaggan's new order friends. Quaggan will be varanos[sic] someday!
Talk end option tango.png Outstanding.

Talking to Varonos Narrijoo:

Varonos Narrijoo: OoOOoo! Quaggans can't keep this up much longer!
Talk end option tango.png Hang on. We'll get you through this.

Speaking with your mentor:

Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: We've got our orders. These quaggans need a way out. Let's get up there and bust through that ice.
Talk end option tango.png On it.
Magister Sieran: The only thing between the icebrood and Falooaloo is us. And the only thing between those quaggans and safety is that thick sheaf of ice. We need to break through!
Talk end option tango.png I'm on it.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Ice is blocking the quaggans' escape route. Solution? Us. Get cracking, Agent.
Talk end option tango.png I'm on it.

Inspecting the ice:

Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: It's time. The icebrood are on the way. Say the word, and I'll punch through that ice.
Talk quest option tango.png Do it.
Talk end option tango.png Let's wait a little longer.
Magister Sieran: The icebrood are definitely on their way by now. Should we break through the ice, or wait until we see the whites of their dead, frozen eyes?
Talk quest option tango.png It's time. Go!
Talk end option tango.png Hold off for now.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Even through all this cold water, I can feel the icebrood are coming. Just say when, and I'll smash through that ice.
Talk quest option tango.png Now's the time. Do it.
Talk end option tango.png Not yet.

After your breaking the ice:

Mentor: We've broken through. The way is clear. Go!
Quaggan Defender: Oah! Thank you, <friendly/Priory/Vigil> people. Falooaloo, listen to your varonos! Swim for your lives!

If you completed Enraged and Unashamed:

Baroosh: Forget shame! Focus on the enemy! They are strong, so Quaggans must be stronger. Embrace your rage!
Shashoo: Quaggan is right behind you. Quaggan will stick by your side.
Baroosh: Soft and weak may be polite, but cruel and toothy protects the pups. Release your rage now!

If you completed Pastkeeper (story):

Pastkeeper Oldoo: Shoomaloona vastoo croolos! Quaggan calls upon the ancient power of the land! Weave a barrier of protection!
Shashoo: Quaggan is right behind you. Quaggan will stick by your side.
Pastkeeper Oldoo: It worked. The barrier is in place, but it won't be enough. Warriors, defend Falooaloo!

During the evacuation:

When a member of the Vigil:
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: First group's away! Second group, get ready to move!
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Second group's safe! Third group, you're up!
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Third group's out. Fourth group, hurry. We're nearly done!
When a member of the Durmand Priory:
Magister Sieran: First group is clear! Second group, go!
Magister Sieran: Second group's safe! Third group: it's your turn!
Magister Sieran: Third group's away. Fourth group: hurry! We're almost done!
When a member of the Order of Whispers:
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: First group is away. Second group: go!
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Second group's safe! Third group: start swimming!
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Third group's clear. Fourth group: hurry! We're nearly done.

Talking to your mentor:

Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Don't let up!
Talk end option tango.png I won't.
Magister Sieran: It's not over yet. Keep fighting!
Talk end option tango.png Right.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: I wish I had an inspiring speech to make about fighting underwater.
Talk end option tango.png Not necessary. Just fight!

After the evacuation:

When a member of the Vigil:
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: We're done here. The others are all out. Time for you to follow.
Shashoo: Noooo! Quaggan will stay here with you until the end.
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: This IS the end. Just go! Catch up to your people. Now!
Shashoo: Foo! All right. Quaggans will always be indebted to you.
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Change doesn't come easy to an old soldier. You didn't give up on me...and I won't give up on you. We do this together.
When a member of the Durmand Priory:
Magister Sieran: That's the last group. There's nothing left to defend. Go! Go with your people!
Shashoo: Nooo! Quaggan will stay here with you until the end.
Magister Sieran: This IS the end. Rejoin your people. We'll cover you. It's why we're here!
Shashoo: Foo! All right. Quaggans will always be indebted to you.
Magister Sieran: I was hoping to fall in love at least once before I died...but I guess I'm ready. If you are.
When a member of the Order of Whispers:
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Everyone else is clear. We'll take it from here. Go, rejoin your people.
Shashoo: Noooo! Quaggan will stay here with you until the end.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: This IS the end. Go on! We'll cover you.
Shashoo: Foo! All right. Quaggans will always be indebted to you.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Marauding? Marauder? I don't know the right word, but I'm ready to maraud! Let's go.

After defeating the Champion Icebrood Kodan (cinematic):

When a member of the Vigil:
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Nice work. Those quaggans should be halfway to Hoelbrak by now, and well on their way to a new permanent home.
<Character name>: That's assuming they can find a safe place to settle. After what we've seen, I'm not sure such a place exists—and if it does exist, whether it will last.
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Belay the grumbling, youngster. That's my job. Falooaloo was lost before we got here. C'mon. The dragons' corruption is spreading. Let's find a comfortable place to wait for our next mission.
When a member of the Durmand Priory:
Magister Sieran: Well done! Those quaggans should be halfway to Hoelbrak by now. A quick jaunt through the asura gate, and they're on their way to a new permanent home.
<Character name>: That's assuming they can find a safe place to settle. After what we've seen, I'm not sure such a place exists—and if it does exist, whether it will last.
Magister Sieran: Oh, foo. Don't be discouraged. Falooaloo was lost before we even arrived. Come on. There's nothing here but cold, corrupted things. Let's find a livelier place to wait for our next assignment.
When a member of the Order of Whispers:
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: We did good. Coo, as the quaggans say. They're probably halfway to Hoelbrak by now, on their way to a new permanent home.
<Character name>: That's assuming they can find a safe place to settle. After what we've seen, I'm not sure such a place exists—and if it does exist, whether it will last.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Foo on that kind of talk. Falooaloo was lost before we even arrived. Come on. There's nothing here but cold, dead water. Let's find a livelier place to wait for our next assignment.

Speaking with your mentor:

Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: This was a disaster for Falooaloo. They'll be safe enough in Hoelbrak — and then maybe we can redeem this and all the other damage the Elder Dragon have done.
Talk end option tango.png I hope the quaggans make the most of that chance.
Magister Sieran: We lost the village, but we saved the villagers. And we convinced Shashoo to join our cause, so it's not a total loss. I hope they have better luck in Hoelbrak.
Talk end option tango.png They will. They're safe enough for now.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: I have to admit, I feel bad for these quaggans. They lost their village, they have a hard trek in front of them...and it's a long way between here and Hoelbrak.
Talk end option tango.png At least they'll be safe there.

My story[edit]

Evacuation.jpg

We all pitched in to defend Falooaloo Village—me, my partner, Pastkeeper Oldoo, Baroosh, and even Shashoo—but the village was destroyed by the icebrood's attack. We did manage to save the quaggans themselves, including all their newly hatched eggs, and we secured the villagers' help for the coming war against the Elder Dragons. It wasn't a complete victory by any stretch, but it'll have to do: the threat of the dragons grows stronger each and every day.

My story
