Legendary Sidony the Shadowkeeper is the ghost of a former Seer leader from the previous dragonrise cycle.

Biography[edit]

Early years[edit]

Sidony was the doyen of the Seer fhogos. They cried for war during the previous devastating rise of the Elder Dragons and allied with the elder races of Tyria to achieve this end. However, just before the Seers were to aid the mursaat in the attack against the Elder Dragon Zhaitan, Sidony suddenly decided against Seer involvement in the battle and left the mursaat and the Forgotten to fend for themselves while the Seers focused on the creation of the Shadowstone and the Bloodstone instead. Sidony also stopped the fellow Seer Isgarren from interfering.[1][2] The mursaat, who had suffered many losses alongside the Forgotten, never forgave the Seers for this perceived act of betrayal, leading to a bloody conflict between the two races millennia later in which the mursaat exterminated most Seers from Tyria despite their numbers being fewer compared to the Seers.[3][4]

Since their creation at the hands of the Seers, Sidony believed that the magical weapons Legavo and Mulmund would be essential in the Seers' defense against extraplanar invaders. However, the mursaat would eventually ward their armors against the staves' unique magics, well before the weapons became known as the Scepter of Orr and the Staff of the Mists, respectively. Eventually, the Six Gods and their servants came, unabated and unhindered, and it became clear that the staves were not the miracles the Seers had thought they were.[2]

At some point, Sidony was assassinated.[5] However, their ghost would continue to haunt Tyria long after their demise as their task had been left unfinished.

Secrets of the Obscure[edit]

In 1336 AE, the Pact Commander began investigating the influence of the elder races on Isgarren's Astral Ward and the Wizard's Court. The Commander found a mysterious artifact from Isgarren's study and decided to take it to Historian Tranton, the foremost Durmand Priory expert on the Seers. Thanks to Tranton's guidance, the Commander located the Bloodstone Caves and found Sidony's ghost manifesting due to the proximity of the artifact.

Sidony's mind was set in the past, reciting the speech from the previous dragonrise when the Seers had rallied the other elder races to the fight against the Elder Dragons. Reliving past glory, the Seer duly tasked the Commander with cutting down the Elder Dragons' champions: the Claw of Jormag, the Shatterer, and Tequatl the Sunless. Upon completing the task, the Commander returned to Sidony who thanked them for ridding the world of a great evil and revealed that these actions allowed the seer to finally find rest. As a parting gift, the ghost activated the artifact which the Commander had been carrying, revealing it to be a magical torch which Sidony hoped would be of use to the Commander in their future adventures.

Notes[edit]

  • Sidony is referred to as both he and she,[1][2] having a masculine voice but a female name. Given how earlier lore described the Seers as genderless,[6] it is possible that both are true.

Trivia[edit]

  • A doyen is the senior ambassador by length of service in a particular country, or simply a senior member of a group, particularly one whose knowledge or abilities exceed those of other members.
  • Sidony's clothing matches that of the Ancient Seer met in Guild Wars.
