Poetry[edit]
Got time to kill? Calor 02:10, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe. (-_-) I suspect it might be a pointer to deeper psychological problems. Who turns to poetry about a game when they're bored? Frankly, I'm worried about myself. ;] --Aspectacle 02:30, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- Many other people have worse problems... Calor 02:38, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks[edit]
Really appreciate your fixing my typo and those silly links. I had no idea how to link to the GWW and the GW2W and finally just external linked them as a ... err... long-cut? -- Gaile 00:41, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hey - no worries. I figured that you, like everyone else, would be watching this wiki a little less than the wiki for a game that actually exists. You might not have noticed the mistake for while! You'll be able to squirrel away the knowledge about the art of interwiki linking for future reference. ;) --Aspectacle 00:58, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Oct 9th Edit[edit]
On Oct 9t you edited the GW2 information page to say that "Early information stated that companions would have customization similar to Heroes and that henchmen would not be in the game." I've kept pretty well informed over the past few years on developments concerning GW2, and I don't recall there ever being any mention of whether or not henchies would be included. The only mention I can recall is back in the early days when people still submitted GW2 suggestions on Gaile's page. Back then some guy mention some sort of problem he thought there would be with GW2 (I don't remember what it was) and Gaile replied suggesting the inclusion of henchies in GW2 as a possible solution. It's hardly confirmation of anything, but since there was no specific citation for your edit, I decided to remove it. If you're sure of the information and can remember one of the sources then please provide citation and add it back into the article. --Shai Halud 19:05, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for your concern. I worry sometimes because very few people seem to comment on or edit my contributions - this place is a complete ghost town. I do try to make sure that everything written is backed up by a reference, I too am an avid reader of everything GW2 related but I have made incorrect assumptions and over-generalisations in the past. -- Aspectacle 02:38, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- i'm 99.99% sure i remember reading about a lack of henchies in gw2. i beleive it was the march of pc gamer magazine a few years back, i had photo copies made of the article from the local library since i didn't have a copy myself. i'd check right now, but i think i recycled them last week (years after i had them made) i'll look around for them again.Akbaroth 12:50, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Hey why you remove the posible concept art for the classes?[edit]
why you remove them?--Knighthonor 08:37, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- Because it is speculation - you do not know that those are representative of the professions. The wiki should document what we know not what we are guessing at. -- Aspectacle 08:52, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

- :D I'm still working on my interpretation of the skill info. I'm not quite sure how the weapon/skill switching works yet? Or how that works in PvP? -- Aspectacle 16:59, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- I think the info we're getting now is mostly PvE. Somehow I think PvP will be completely different D: Also, yes, apparently we'll have the first 5 skills depending on our weapons. And the other 5 we can choose ourselves. The Attunements sound like kickass though,... D: --Naoroji 17:00, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- Definitely! I could really appreciate being able to switch between different elements. Especially if you're able to do some buffing in the earth line a switch to fire for some nuking? I wonder how costly it is to switch between them? -- Aspectacle 17:05, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

- I hadn't and it is a bit of a surprise. No secondaries, no companions or henchies. It really is a sequel to Guild Wars not a 1.5 release. The combat sounds like it is going to be really different - I wonder what the feel of the combat is? I'm really hoping the events will stop it from being like most other MMOs I've dabbled with. Otherwise -> *yawn* -- Aspectacle 22:52, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm always anal about this[edit]
but I saw you saved some images with Photoshop from the EXIF. Can you use Save For Web instead? It removes some metadata which can save a little bit of space. Not a lot but you get the point. Previously Unsigned 00:26, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- ok. I don't understand what you mean - I'm using irfanview. :) But I guess what it is probably doing is saving the metadata from the arenanet icon sheet to my cropped image. I'll see what I can find to remove it. -- Aspectacle 00:29, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- Oh I saw a picture that said you uploaded it and the metadata showed that it was saved in Photoshop, so I thought you were the one that created it. JStrip [1] removes metadata only or if you want a save for the web like interface, you can use RIOT alone or via Irfan/GIMP/etc. RIOT website: [2] another link about it: [3] Yeah image quailty annoys me. May I ask for the source of this? Chriskang 11:11, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

I'm still trying to think how to deal with videos and the latest round of guardian interviews (most of which I think have had all information added completely already) - trying to figure out whether I add them or not. -- aspectacle 22:42, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Tango Icons[edit]
<3 - Infinite - talk 16:23, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
- Scary fact of the day: those look almost exactly like the ones I was working on. ;) And, I would love to use them. (Though guardian IMO should have an ankh somewhere...) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Aquadrizzt (talk • contribs.
- They look very nice, I agree. I like how they look like update versions of the GW1W tango icons. I would actually like to implement most of them here, and wait a bit before implementing the guardian one; we will likely see it after the PAX East demo. Erasculio 17:26, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
- ^_^ I'm really pleased with how well they turned out and they were fun to make too. If you guys like them I'm happy to see them moved to the main space so they can be used. I deliberately left the guardian icon simple - I thought about putting a cross or ankh in the middle but as Eras says I'd like to match ArenaNet's icon - there is a chance it won't be a shield at all. -- aspectacle 22:54, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
- I second a move to mainspace (or third, whatever position I'm in). I preferred the original ranger one you uploaded, but the current is still good. Perhaps we could move the ran, nec, war and ele to mainspace and hold off on the gua until further detail can be implemented. Venom20 13:05, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- Uploading the guardian placeholder to main space for now is not a problem, as we can update it with a finalized version when the opportunity to create one has presented itself (very likely during and after PAX East). - Infinite - talk 16:20, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

- Now that means a lot to me! Thanks Lord Biro. :D -- aspectacle 11:24, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
- Congrats Aspectable, praise from Lord Biro is high praise indeed : ) The icon for the thief may have changed, though. One site has a video showing a different icon, as seen here. I don't know which came first, the videos we have seen at the GDC or that one, so I don't know which icon is the current one, but we may have to change the icon based on what we see at PAX East. Erasculio 14:59, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- I've noticed that inconsistency. The only version of the thief hero panel I've seen has the padlock icon on it too but that also came from the same korean site: http://file.thisisgame.com/board/files/0/img/20110305201505_7bdabef7.jpg. The padlock style is 'flat' like the other profession icons unlike the crossed dagger and key. I have already prepared myself for the possibility of redoing that one completely. I guess we'll find out with the PAX demo stream - which I hope I can download to watch after the fact. :) -- aspectacle 16:03, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- Found another; massively's hero panel but their login screen was the crossed icon. It seems to be in transition from one to the other, although in which direction we don't yet know. -- aspectacle 16:19, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- The Hero panel's and the character creation's icons are different for all professions, aren't they? - Infinite - talk 17:03, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- I've only seen thief and guardian, because the hero panel profession icon is new for this demo build. The icon for the guardian is at least the same shield with anhk, the thief appears to have two different things. We need more demo footage (at 1080p on decent cameras). ^_^ -- aspectacle 22:17, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

- Thanks for the info guys! :) They're definitely the best options we've seen. I'll start messing with the human and the norn because I think they'll be the hardest to get clear detail into the 20px version. I'll try to keep them as circles but I'll see what works out. Give me a while... I'm playing Dragon Age 2 at the moment, so I'm not spending as much time thinking about gw2 as I normally do. :D -- aspectacle 08:16, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

- I'm copy pasting from the guru skill compendium thread. They've spelt it wrong, the word isn't in my normal vocab so I ended up spelling it wrong. :) I've not actually seen the original source myself so I should see if I can find the original. But I think it should be safe to move it to the correct spelling? -- aspectacle 00:53, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Rock Dog[edit]
Heya, where did you get the info for the rock dog article? I checked the article source for Gendarran Fields, which Rock Dog links to, but didn't find any mention of it. Also, should I just not worry about categories for it yet, along with other similarly ambiguous creatures such as Coconut Crab and Forest Boar? Thanks Sachem 21:55, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- The creatures I've added I've been getting from demo footage. If there aren't any groups which stand out for new categories just put the creatures in the general Bestiary category directly - for example Marmox. Forest boar is interesting, I know there are also Warthogs and giant boars (article not created yet) in the game which might suit being grouped in a category 'pigs' or 'hogs' or 'boars' or something. Make something up IMO and we can fix it up when we have better information (ie access to the game. :) -- aspectacle 23:10, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

New icon sheets[edit]
There are some new skill icon sheets available: Dave Bolton's blog. Rather than just uploading the sheet of ele icons we should probably cut them up first. Engineers[edit]
I read your piece on the Engineer on your userpage and I felt obligated to say that I completely agree. I imagine it will be confusing at first, but it will be very rewarding with time. Aqua (T|C) 22:37, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- I understand the mechanics properly now, though it definitely wasn't as transparent as the previous professions. I'm really looking forward to the kit mechanic. It is like all the warrior's weapon sets, but is more flexible and seems to have a wider range of roles. Why can't I play this game already. >_< -- aspectacle 00:21, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- After I finished deciphering the engineer's actual abilities, I have decided that I am going to be an engineer as a main (unless they make the mesmer even cooler.) Part of the logic is that there is very little actual thought involved in playing a spell spammer, a not tank, a party supporter, a person with an additional half person tacked on. Necromancer and thief both have their potentially complex sides, but the engineer is just so appealing. Aqua (T|C) 00:30, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Definitely agree. The mesmer is a sentimental favourite as my first character in GW - so I'll probably play that first. Unless they somehow make a hash job of bringing the concept over. Engineer would take the place of first character very happily I think. I'm already imagining the demo videos from gamescom - I doubt we'd see very many people playing an engineer very well. -- aspectacle 01:11, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

- I don't mind doing it but I'm curious to know why I'm doing it? :) -- aspectacle 02:57, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks! It's because of the way the user page template I'm working on works (and for consistency). Basically the player fills out his race, and I want to be able to slip that into the file name to customize it, but since there was an a tacked on to the end of "human," I'd have to implement something more complicated (since no player is gonna enter "humana" as his/her race).-- Shew 03:33, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Hey mister tango man[edit]
I'd like to request bigger versions of the Commando and Shadowmancer tango icons. Or at least the Commando one. If I knew how to make them, I would, but I fails at digital art. Konig/talk 01:44, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- I'll see if I can get to it tonight. I'm not sure whether I'll be able to make a good match but I'll give it a go. -- aspectacle 03:02, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- [[:File:User_Aspectacle_commando.png]]. It isn't a tango icon, but it does match the little one - hopefully it is suitable to your requirement? The shadowmancer hand will take me longer. -- aspectacle 10:20, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- For the time being I guess it works. Truth be told, outside of consistency and the fact that people enjoy larger versions of tango (myself included), I don't care much for the Shadowmancer one. Mainly interested in the commando on so I can get a non-blurry image here. And, as said, I'd make em but I dunno how those delicious tangos are made. I only know how to take them out. Konig/talk 17:58, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Creature features[edit]
This is an if, but in the round possibility that you're punching through creatures at some point, see if they seem to fall systematically in mix-and-match types/roles. I have an extremely small sample size of 'pirates', but I'll be looking to see if they're using groupings like 'Jackdaw' and 'Cutthroat' in combination with combatant roles like 'Brawler' and 'Sniper'. So for example, if there turns out to be another grouping like 'Redshift' pirates with a 'Redshift Brawler' and a 'Redshift Sniper', that'd be worth noticing and might make creature pages more organized while precluding the need to make stubby pages for every single one. Redshift 01:22, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
- There was an interview or video a while back with some information about the pirates in the region. It stated there were several different pirate groups in the area and who led them and why she broke from the main pirate group in Lion's Arch. I've been trying to remember which it was so I can add the info to the pirate page. I have seen a Jackdaw Sniper. I haven't seen any of the old Cutthroat pirates types in the new demo screens or footage; Crackshot, Scrapper, Swashbuckler in any of the types seen - though it doesn't mean they don't still exist. I've seen another pirate type in an earlier demo - I can't remember the group prefix, but I'm fairly certain it was a B---? Swashbuckler. I'll have to double check my images for the name. -- aspectacle 01:45, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
- I remember the video now, with the other pirate group name: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTKcVAgoCYE @ ~11:50. I'd get the name for you but I'm @work and wary of downloading 300+MB files on a whim. :S I'm still working on remembering the first interview. :) -- aspectacle 01:58, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
- Noice. I'll look forward to it, then. I'll give that footage a trawl soon, thanks; the G4 footage was surprisingly thick. :) Redshift 03:47, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
- @ about 6 minutes. Back on the original topic -> I'm not sure that I've seen any much structure in the naming of other creatures so far, pirate is the only one so far which has the possibility of the feature.
- This is aside from Veteran and Champion which are monster rankings used to indicate difficulty - I can't tell yet whether, for example, a Veteran Ascalonian Archer is similar enough to the Ascalonian Archer and so should be documented on the same page. I'm inclined, with the information I have, to drop the veteran and champion from any monster names (some of the named creatures from the Ascalonian Dungeon already ditch the champion part of their name) and group them up together to have somewhat larger, more complete pages. -- aspectacle 05:52, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the Vet/Champ note (among other things, o'course). If evidence supports so, it might indeed make sense to drop that, or turn it into a standard table/template for placement (mainly, if the higher classification confers some special ability, really) on the base creature. Having something like 'Veteran Spider Hatchling' doesn't really make sense in hindsight. D'oh. Veteran Ascalonian Warrior and Ascalonian Warrior are the only examples I have right now, but there's something weird going on--I could have sworn I recorded the abilities right (because of how nonsensical they were), but the Warrior had the Ranger abilities. I am all for more-robust pages. Redshift 17:34, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
- ...Dare I ask about the state of capitalization these days? Redshift 12:44, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
- Best not, it is a pretty contentious topic. :) With title case being used for labels in game - it has been difficult for us to determine which things are titles because they're titles of something and which things are in title case simply because they're in a title/label. At the moment the best thing to do is, if you're documenting something from within game, follow the game which we're told is following the chicago manual of style. So go with title case in the page title and sentence case for the article unless it is a name or title. At this point I do not consider a specific species name like 'black bear' or 'crested raptor' to be a true name or title so will lower case these, but am honestly on the fence about whether that is the right thing to do and am waiting for evidence from the game. If it is a general term or a wiki summary page do not use title case in the page title but use sentence case everywhere.
- This is all as clear as mud, I hope. :) -- aspectacle 23:43, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Permision for use your tango icons[edit]
Hi, Can I use your tango icons in my website (www.gw2-db.com) ? Example: http://gw2-db.com/trait.php?trait=6&lang=en&tooltip http://gw2-db.com/trait.php?trait=6&lang=en
Thanks.--Frekency 00:33, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
- Yup. Thank you for asking. :) BTW, everything on this site not copied and pasted from the game is released under a GFDL license. As long as you give clear acknowledgment of the original author(s) you are welcome to use the content here as you like. Also, you might like to use the icons which have been made to look good at the smaller size (eg: [4]) - they will give you fewer jaggies and cleaner shapes than resizing down the larger ones. -- aspectacle 00:49, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks you for answerd me, I added a reference in the footer about your icons. --Frekency 01:22, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Good sir[edit]
(You need to archive, but that's a separate matter) I'm somewhat bad with GFDL, but I'm relatively sure that attribution to you would be required if, per se, someone uses your icons on their signature generator... It's not my fish to fry, but I'd figure that you, as the creator of those (absolutely awesome) tangos, might be interested in it. Aqua (T|C) 04:33, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
- Archive? - NEVER!
- I am aware of the icons being used all over the place. While I'd like acknowledgement I am at peace with the fact I've uploaded the icons to a wiki which is part of the internet and they will get used when and however people please. I might be concerned if someone was making a tonne of money off my efforts but otherwise I see those using the icons as people who are like me - they're making some neat things to celebrate ArenaNet's game. Also, I'm pretty damn pleased they're of a quality which people want to use on their sites and applications. :) -- aspectacle 06:14, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Blast from the past...[edit]
I stumbled across this and had a quite good lol. Not at your expense of course, I just found it amusing how so much had/has changed in four years of development. Aqua (T|C) 03:53, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
- No offence taken of course. ;) That stuff wasn't anything that I made up - ArenaNet did all that! Those 2007 references give the right sort of impression of the game but the specifics don't do them many favours. And even now they're still messing with stuff they've told us. We still haven't heard what they've done to the traits... -- aspectacle 09:01, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

- I've uploaded the one that I think you mean. File:Creature Trophy Icons 2.jpg -- aspectacle 04:58, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
Human b[edit]
I was wondering if there was a humanb version created at 20px? I created the human race template, but the b variant seems more fitting to the race than the a variant. But the b variant seems too detailed to make a good 20px icon. Was just wondering if there was one walking around. Venom20 17:33, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- I never did successfully because of that detail you mention. Which is probably why I left it with the other. I was waiting to see if some thing showed up which was better than the city icons before I revisited my race icon effort. Too much conflicting opinion overriding my willingness to put effort with them. :) thinking of icons have we seen the official icon for the Mesmer yet? -- aspectacle 18:31, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, we have! - Infinite - talk 18:34, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
- I was hoping it wasn't going to be a butterfly but it was obvious looking at all of the animations they showed us. :p I'll see if I can get the icon done soon. -- aspectacle 18:40, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
- Aspectable, I know you're really busy, and also working on the mesmer icon... But any chance we could get something like a tango icon for the skill point icon? The one seen, for example, here at 01:30 min, at the top right corner of the menu and also over each skill icon. It's likely something we would like to display on the skill pages, so it would be nice if we could have something in the same style as the skill recharge icon. Erasculio 14:48, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I figured that was the catch. I don't know if it just me, but I prefer the griffin to the cityscape. But there is too much detail to cram in there. Thanks for all your hard work though. Love all the icons. (also, good work on the butterfly, even though I too was hoping they'd go with something else.) Venom20 01:12, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
- Venom, I'm happy to have another go at miniturising it. I'll probably be a bit slow about it I am having some trouble finding a block of time to myself at the moment. Though I'm not sure what you think makes the griffon more of a symbol of humanity than a wall? Toss a coin I guess. :P
- Eras, hi, yes I can do that. :) I'll have a go at making a recharge icon like the one in game too, as I'm thinking it would be nice with a new game to have wiki icons looking like the game's. -- aspectacle 10:53, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Splendid!
Ankh form on the guardian icon[edit]
I've already posted this on the respective image talk page, but I'd like to copy it over here. Recently ankh was replaced with a new symbol (can be seen to the right, actually), and not only on this icon, e.g. check the Healing Breeze icon from the press beta. Could this get updated, please? Alfa-R 20:03, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
- ok. Thanks for letting me know. Should be able to do it shortly. -- aspectacle 23:45, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
- How is the new icon doing? ;-) Alfa-R 16:31, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
- I've tried to do that myself today actually, but I hope you can come up with smth better. Alfa-R 21:01, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- I apologise for just disappearing. Real life is getting in the way of my gaming obsession. I'm not going to take any action with the icon because yours looks completely fine. -- aspectacle 21:25, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Tango Icon Request[edit]
So i tried my hand and making a tango icon (of a green asura golem) but have failed (not going to upload my failure, its that bad) and thus was wondering if you could point me in the direction of how you make them. Please and thanks! - Zesbeer 23:00, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry for the delay, Zesbeer. I use inkscape, try to follow tango guidelines and found watching a few video tutorials (these ones worked okay for me) helped. I was able to stumble along without much artistic talent. I could imagine that someone with flair might be able to do better. :) -- aspectacle 21:37, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
- For a freeware program, inkscape is an amazing vector graphics platform. I personally use it for making technical figures and icons. --Lania 21:53, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
- Yup, it is a great program and I've been really impressed with the results I was able to get with it. There are some incredible images out there from people with um, you know... talent. :) -- aspectacle 22:12, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
- ty, i have given up for a wile on making my tango golem icon. but the resources will be useful.- Zesbeer 22:51, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Inactivity is feared[edit]
But if you do still frequent the wiki, do you reckon you could fabricate a jumping puzzle tango? The one currently in use is abysmal and does not fit the aesthetic. - Infinite - talk 16:41, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
