Chat[edit]

I haven't talked to you in a while, so, how are you? :P Fabian 13:17, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Hey Fabian! I noticed your new nav bar last night, sexy. I'll have to peek around your coding :) I've been playing a lot of TF2 lately...and hanging out with my fam. My wife and I just had our 6th anniversary on Sunday and as a surprise I signed us up for some Argentine tango dance lessons! And I think I've finally finalized my character profession/race match ups...now on to naming them. Oh, and on Friday I'm running in a 5k "warrior dash" muddy obstacle course race, should be...interesting. Some friends and I are getting sponsors for it to help raise funds for starving children. And my kid starts pre k next week. so yeah, lots is going on. How about you my good sir? --Moto Saxon 13:58, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
Hey! haha, i'm fine, very busy now because of school then work back to back day by day. Anyways, I keep changing my userpage, but I went back to the one I created a little while ago because it was more original and less copied, but it uses similar codes to other people, but it doesn't look the same :P Nice TF2! I hear it's a good game! Congrats on your Anniversary, I bet you and your wife would win a tango dance competition! Good luck on the 5k dash, it's good that you and your friends are helping starving children. and good luck with your kid starting pre k! have them make some art for you :P lol, long responses... Fabian User Fabian sig.jpg 18:03, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
Also!!! you should name one of your characters 'Saxon' it would definatly be sexy ^^ Fabian Yeah.. Be jealous of my sexy signiture 18:10, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
Haha, thanks. Saxon was the name I primarily used for my GW1 characters. So I'd like it to make a small return. But because of its over use I'm getting bored with it. --Moto Saxon 18:20, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
I hear you, the same name over and over can get boring! At least you got a few names so far, lol Fabian Yeah.. Be jealous of my sexy signiture 18:30, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
Hey there! I just made a wiki account and thought I'd say hi! --Gaurdianaq 23:08, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

change that 'b' to a 'p'[edit]

I beg you. User A F K When Needed Signature Icon.png A F K When Needed 20:01, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Haha. I may do that. I'm sure it'll change a million times before the game comes out. There are just so many possibilities!!!! I've considered making many charr just for that reason. --Moto Saxon 20:14, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
So many possibilities, and so much time :P
At least you won't be left with a main who you regret hastily giving the first name you thought of, I guess. User A F K When Needed Signature Icon.png A F K When Needed 20:17, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

any profession that pwns has the right to pump IMO, just saying :) originally "bump" was for the guardian that said "'scuse me while I bump yo @$$ outa here." --Moto Saxon 18:49, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

is it really speculation[edit]

it's to close the last reveal to even matter, and maybe i just get offended to easily. but is it REALLY speculation to say A) the last profession is a returning one from Guild Wars 1. B) 4 have been confirmed as already returning. C) 3 have been confirmed as not returning. D) leaving only the Mesmer, Paragon, and Dervish as unconfirmed.

  • "there is one brand new profession and one returning profession yet to be revealed." - Eric Flannum
  • "we're not building a dedicated healer in our game, so we couldn't bring in a character called a Monk into our game" - John Peters
  • "the ritualist will not be included in Guild Wars 2 in the initial release, um, for sure. It's mechanics...have been rolled into the Engineer." - Colin Johanson @ 2:25
  • "the thief is...different from the assassin...which is why we chose to rename the profession...the assassin is [from] Cantha and...we aren't visiting Cantha in the initial release." - Eric Flannum

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything by speculating. I'm merely trying to establish what is concrete enough to be considered a fact. --Moto Saxon 13:28, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

All of those things are facts. The only thing that is missing is the official confirmation that the mesmer/paragon/dervish is in. And out of those three options, only the mesmer has an article on GW2W because it is the only profession mentioned in present-time lore. - Infinite - talk 13:39, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
This just my personal opinion, but here goes: as long as it has not been stated by anet to be irrefutable fact, then it isn't fact. It's their game and they can bring in any profession they want. Does that mean I don't think our mysterious last profession will be a mesmer? Absolutely not. I don't think anyone doubts that the last prof is a mesmer. But maybe it isn't 100% returning prof. We know that mes-- I mean the last profession will not use hexes, and that was a core mechanic of mesmers in GW1. Anet might also have altered the name or something. So until anet clearly says "yup, it's the mesmer" the best we can put up is "it is widely believed by the fanbase that the last profession is the mesmer". Sucks, I know, but we have to be patient. Cirocco 13:42, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
Well, there are a few facts to be taken into account; "returning" profession means it is a profession copied over from the original Guild Wars with altered gameplay and new profession-specific mechanics to make it GW2-ready. All returning professions have not had their names changed. There was a special phrasing to depict the reworked + renamed assassin when the thief was revealed, so we can assume (at best) that the returning profession will also not have their name changed.
Then, hexes and interrupts were removed, two prominent features of mesmer gameplay. One may argue that returning it is therefore impossible. I present you the GW2 necromancer hexes reworked; marks. Something similar would obviously be (if at all) done for the mesmer if it returns. Interrupts can be substituted with the new effects.
That said, and all the previous facts adressed taken into account; there has not been irrefutable evidence about the returning profession being a certain one of the original Guild Wars professions and therefore it is not documented on Guild Wars 2 Wiki (and should not be documented as "possibly playable" either). This is all looping countless of discussions but I have nothing else to do so whatever. - Infinite - talk 14:04, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating we should put up "mesmers are probably the last prof" everywhere, I'm just saying that yes, it is still speculation until we get cold, hard factual confirmation.
Best you can do is what the mesmer page currently says: a trivia that most people believe that to be the final profession. Everywhere else you just say "one more prof to be revealed, and we know this and this and this about it". Pretty much what the wiki does right now.
And yes, I know this has been said a thousand times already but I also have nothing better to do :p Cirocco 14:17, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I don't want loops of discussion about mesmer here. I just wanted to establish what can be generally and irrefutably considered fact concerning the last profession. Obviously, anet can always go back on what they have said at any time an go in a different direction. but as of now, i feel that very minimally my statements above are factual and not speculation. --Moto Saxon 14:23, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
I just get annoyed with people that say its ALL speculation, when we do know some things for certain. --Moto Saxon 14:26, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
Oh it's not all speculation, far from it. In fact, there's only one real point of speculation on this subject in my book and that is that it is certain that the last prof is the mesmer. All the quotes and info given by anet is cold hard fact. But the deduction that all these facts add up to certainty of the last prof being mesmer is still speculation.
Well, that's my opinion anyway. Cirocco 14:43, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) "is it really speculation"

Why must you taunt me a second time? --Moto Saxon 19:52, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
y must u accuse me of being evilz? :<
My point is that even you referred to it as speculation in that same edit. Because that's what it is. The premises of your logic are solid facts. Where you go using them, is into the realms of guesswork. It's every bit as faulty as saying "we know 1 + 1 = 2, thus there is no God". Nobody disputes your facts. Merely that you disregard 2 / 3 possibilities, and cite no valid facts to support you doing so.
I'm not taunting you. Merely being playful and charming. :P User A F K When Needed Signature Icon.png A F K When Needed 19:58, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
<english>Your facts are undeniable, but they do not support your assumption that the returning profession is definitely Mesmer and not, say, Dervish.
They confirm there are three possible candidates. That's it. You claim it to be Mesmer, and they do not support this assumption.
We acknowledge your facts. Now give us some more which explain the leap from three candidates to definitely Mesmer.</english> User A F K When Needed Signature Icon.png A F K When Needed 20:06, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
I'm not trying to prove that it is mesmer. when, in this post, or on the profession nav discussion did I say that? I said we should either get rid of Mesmer from the profession nav OR also add para and derv (initially I only included derv and later included para as well, but never mesmer by itself). --Moto Saxon 20:22, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
A F K just gets a bit agitated whenever the mesmer is brought up. It's adorable. - Infinite - talk 20:30, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
I'd like to point out the reason the Mesmer was on the nav and not the dervish and paragon was simply because the Mesmer has a page here, which the other two do not (and should not as long as we have no information about them being in the present day GW2 lore) — I don't think anyone wanted to actually enforce the Mesmer as the only candidate for 8th profession. Now, it's off the nav anyway, so what's the big deal ? -Alarielle- 20:33, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
The big deal is that I'm to sensitive. I was trying hard not to speculate about it, and I felt accused of speculating...and I just couldn't let it go :( --Moto Saxon 20:37, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
(Edit Conflict) But I don't wanna!
On a more serious note, I think there's been some confusion. If you're not stating "definitely Mesmer, bro", then nobody has referred to anything you've said as being 'speculation'... afaik. It's not speculation to say it's one of those three. Nobody thinks it is speculation to say that. I havn't singled you out and observed your every edit on the matter, so I'm inclined to just assume you saw a comment mentioning 'speculation' and incorrectly thought it was aimed at you. Or someone's a silly.
We know it's one of three, but we don't know which, so we're a tad reluctant to have there "maybes". Currently Mesmer is not featured on the navbar, and neither is the navbar featured on the Mesmer article.
So... O.O User A F K When Needed Signature Icon.png A F K When Needed 20:39, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

WoC part II[edit]

Got released yesterday! Has anyone played it yet, anything revealing about the current state of Cantha?? There is also a new timeline I'm about to read through. --Moto Saxon 14:24, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

Played through it twice now. It is too easy. - Infinite - talk 14:39, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
maybe ppl complained about part 1 being to hard? I still need part 1 in HM. I read up on part 2, until I can actually play it. *spoiler alert* Looks like the MoP turns evil and the tengu get involved? I don't follow lore to much, but from what I've read I think that part 3 will involve Emperor Usoku coming to power (if he isn't already) and setting out to rid the Tengu, defeat the lux and kurz, and unite cantha. obviously, he can't defeat the lux and kurz during the current time or that would ruin gw1 pvp. so im sure it just illudes to his future intentions in part 3. --Moto Saxon 15:18, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
MoP was always evil. Our characters were too dumb to notice. Part 2 is quite small. - Infinite - talk 15:42, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
sounds like I'll have time to do part 2 and a DoA run then. Yippy :) --Moto Saxon 16:11, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

Team pvp[edit]

Anyone interested in a small pvp guild or does everyone have plans? I'd like to get something started for organized pvp strikes in structured, wvw, and dungeon runs. --Moto Saxon 16:15, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

why no one wants to pvp with me?! Q.Q --Moto Saxon 00:10, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Awww, heads up! I am sure people will join you in a PvP guild! I might have a character laying around for such purposes. My ranger, from the looks of it, would be ideal for this purpose! ArenaNet had tonnes of rangers on their teams! - Infinite - talk 00:51, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
I know! rangers seem so underpowered, i was surprised to see how often anet was using them. i still hope they spiff them up a little. --Moto Saxon 19:20, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Guild[edit]

I hope you don't mind, but I invited myself to your guild :P Fabian 00:46, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Welcome abourd first matey! --Moto Saxon 00:49, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
haha thanks! I think this is the first pvp guild on the wiki? Awesome! Fabian 00:54, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
hopefully it will get some momentum and grow. im pretty pumped about wvw. and hopefully we will be able to start out strong upon release. --Moto Saxon 00:56, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
I hope so too! I'm not sure which char I'd like to have registered for the guild, lol. Maybe ranger, theif, or engineer? Fabian 01:02, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
That's the beauty of the new guild system! register any toon with a guild and they all registered. you simple choose which guild you'd like to represent when you log in. --Moto Saxon 01:07, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
That is a beauty ^_^ Fabian 01:21, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

I just added grog in the quote. thoughts, suggestions? --Moto Saxon 16:44, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Needs more "Yarr" perhaps, but there shall be plenty of occassions to overuse it, so let's not get ahead of ourselves. Mediggo 17:26, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
hrm I like it. I've already re written it a few times and may try to toss it in on the next revision. I'm also contemplating other guild names if you have any thoughts on that. Maybe a naming contest for the crew. "The Jolly Roger" is my other fav. --Moto Saxon 17:33, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
I'd be happy to join your guild --Ornio 09:10, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Sweet. I've added you to the roster. --Moto Saxon 17:08, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Combos, the new meta game[edit]

im excited about combos now. however i have a few thoughts. gw2 builds will now be more dummy proof for noobs, but combos just added a whole new meta game to the mix. hard core pvp and sc teams will now be looking to maximize on the most efficient profession combos for advanced tactics in both pve and pvp...which i think im okay with :) and im sure this will bring back a lot of balancing, OP, buffing and nerfing to some combos, but that's just part of the territory. --Moto Saxon 17:19, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

A wiki tutorial[edit]

Hey wiki community. Recently I started a GW2 tutorial website and at some point I am going to make a "how to use the wiki" tutorial. in one of the videos I want to go over the basics of being a wiki contributor so if any of you have any input on what content should be included now is your chance to to let me know. I'm especially looking for feedback from the contributors that are here a lot and admins etc. What common mistakes do noob contributors make? What mistakes are constantly recurring and a annoying to always be fixing?

Planned Outline

  • Editing text on pages
  • 'show preview' and 'minor change' buttons
  • leaving comments on discussion pages
  • uploading images
  • accessing recent changes

Moe suggestions

  • Example suggestion - (signature) --Moto Saxon 20:49, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Curiousity killed the charr[edit]

Hey Saxon, I was wondering if you still had the intention to join Dirge Warband. I know it's been over a year ago since I formed it, but I only just today had it restored to my account. Either way, I hope to see you in-game. :)
P.S. Even more kudos for the wiki tutorials, they're probably going to be a great help for a lot of future contributors! - Infinite - talk 11:56, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

Absolutely! I also am GL of a PvX guild on Isle of Janthir, so I will spend most of my time there. But I'd still love to be on the roster so I can come visit and play with you guys once guesting starts up. I also went with a less lore based name, so I'm not sure if that will fit within guild naming guidelines. My charr is actually a Necromancer named 'Professor Remington'. And I'm glad you like the tutorials, I've still got one more planned and Stephane tweeted me that he is considering adding a video section to the wiki and we might be able to put them there. Not sure how serious he was or if he has mentioned it yet here, but I told him it was a good idea. --Moto Saxon 14:37, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
