Rewards[edit]

Walkthrough[edit]

The meeting with your allies is near the top of The Wizard's Tower while Ikur is near the bottom of it next to Point of interest (map icon).png Wizard's Vault. Following that, the open world Amnytas section simply requires 4 Kryptis rifts to be sealed.

After then meeting your allies again, this time on the western edge of the Bastion of Strength, head deeper into the island. You will spot Mabon fairly quickly, but he will flee while groups of Kryptis engage you. Kill the 3 waves that spawn (you will be prevented from using a Mount for the first few seconds), then proceed to the bastion's courtyard and head right (west on the map) while avoiding enemies, as they will respawn infinitely. You will find Mabon linked to Asthenes, a Kryptis. Deal with the elite Kryptis, finishing him off at 5% health with Rend Corruption. This ultimately kills Mabon as well due to their link.

Discuss this event with Dagda and Zojja to finish the mission.

Dialogue[edit]

Interacting with the Astral Translocator after finishing previous story
Astral Translocator: The astral translocator will move the Wizard's Tower in the higher realm of Amnytas. Would you like to engage the astral translocator?
Talk quest option tango.png Let's go.
Talk end option tango.png Hold on, I still have things to do!

Wizard's Court[edit]

Zojja: Commander, over here!
Galrath the Undying: I agree with Lyhr. I thought they'd be...taller.
Zizel: Hold your knife still.
Zizel: This is the wayfinder?
<Character name>: Who? Oh, right—still getting used to that.
Frode: This is Zizel and Galrath, representatives from the Bastion of the Obscure and the Bastion of the Natural.
If asura:
Zojja: Think of bastions like...the colleges! But subtract the fraternizing and studying and replace that with fieldwork.
Otherwise:
Zojja: Think of bastions like...the asuran colleges! But subtract the fraternizing and studying and replace that with fieldwork.
Galrath the Undying: We specialize in and observe the various magical ecosystems that sustain Tyria.
Zizel: (clear throat) Mabon. Was spotted in the Bastion of Knowledge. He was...
Galrath the Undying: Not well. And unable to hold out much longer.
Galrath the Undying: Wayfinder. We will need your aid when we locate him.
<Character name>: What do you think he's doing?
Zizel: Hiding. For all our sakes.
Frode: While they contiue to search, Rian could use you at the bastions. You can go now.
<Character name>: I'll make my preparations and head out.
Frode: Now, what were we gossiping about?
Speaking with Zojja
Amnytas is something else. I wish you were seeing it in better cirumstances… It's an academic's dream: a hub of research and magic without judgment and nonsense bureaucracy.
Talk more option tango.png Oh, yeah? I'm excited to see.
If Rata Sum lost a quarter of the ego and adopted Lyhr's ethical practices…the things they'd do. But now I'm rambling. Frode can fill you in on how the front lines are looking.
Talk end option tango.png I'll check with him.
Speaking with Galrath the Undying
Welcome, Wayfinder. Anything you needed from me?
Talk more option tango.png I'm fine. Just getting to know everyone.
Okay.
Talk end option tango.png Th-thanks…?
Speaking with Frode
Amnytas is a scary place to be compromised. How much have you learned of it in your time here?
Talk more option tango.png I'd love to know more.
Amnytas is… Hm, where to start? It's a hub of research. Each of the six bastions represents a different subset of Tyrian magic: nature, the cosmos, balance, battle magic, knowledge, and the obscure.
Talk more option tango.png Fascinating.
Each wizard runs one of these bastions, depending on their own prowess. Though quite a few of them have been without leadership for…centuries. Isgarren doesn't often ascend anyone these days.
Talk more option tango.png Amnytas has a lot of history, then.
It's a place worth protecting. Under Kryptis attack, it's dangerous. Ancient relics, stored magic… We need to push back as hard as we can before they open the wrong door. Or take out the spire.
Talk more option tango.png The spire being Isgarren's barrier between us and the Mists?
Yes. We may be able to repair any damage done, but there is no rebuilding it. Especially not if we lose Isgarren, too. We're holding the line at the Bastion of Strength.
Talk end option tango.png I'd better be on my way up there, then.
Talk end option tango.png Think I'm caught up. I'll get moving.
Speaking with Zizel
I hear you've been doing a stunning job, Wayfinder. We needed a little more excitement up here.
Talk more option tango.png Glad to help. A lot of faces and names to internalize.
Mine should be an easy one to remember, darling. And that's Zizel as in "sizzle," if you needed a hand.
Talk more option tango.png Thanks. How did you come across the ward anyway?
As we all do: by complete happenstance. I'd always been a connoisseur of alchemical craft. So much so that I accidentally neglected an attack party approaching my village… Thankfully, no one died.
Talk more option tango.png Oh, my. Sounds dangerous.
I was banished by my kaana. Nonetheless, it proved just fine, as the ward recruited me shortly thereafter. I'd set up shop near Rian's camp, and my potions are just too effective. They didn't hesitate.
Talk more option tango.png Sounds like you're a real boon to them.
As are you. This place is a little less stuffy with another beau idéal in the mix. Oh, and don't let Galrath ruin the mood. He might sound sharp, but he's a puddle of affection when you crack that shell.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks, Zizel.

Archivist Ikur[edit]

Speaking with Archivist Ikur
Archivist Ikur: (gasps)
Archivist Ikur: I can feel them—your relics.
Archivist Ikur: The highest ranking archivist in the Astral Ward. I've been looking for a...globetrotter like yourself.
<Character name>: I'm happy to—
Archivist Ikur: Runes and sigils have always been a capstone of the magic ecosystem; granting power to charlatan and sorcerer alike.
Archivist Ikur: But their powers are quite dormant compared to our relics.
Archivist Ikur: I believe they are broken pieces of very old runes. Very, very old.
Archivist Ikur: When the dragon cycle ended, not only did the spire hiccup—no. Many of our spells and magics reverted to an archaic state.
Archivist Ikur: These fascinating and magnificient objects included.
(Continues with the normal dialog)

Closing rifts[edit]

At 25% progress
Zojja: Good news, Comman—I mean, Wayfinder... Blegh!
Zojja: The rifts you're sealing are enabling Zizel to pick up stronger astral frequencies. It's helpful.
Zizel: I'm seeing very dense clouds of...consciousness. Emotions, swirling.
Zizel: But they're getting...darker...
Zojja: Keep it up. We'll find Mabon in no time at this rate.
At 75% progress
Zojja: We've almost got him—just a few more!
Galrath the Undying: Do not lose your grip, Zizel. Root yourself.
Zizel: (pained groan)
After completing the story step of sealing rifts in Amnytas
Zojja: Wayfi—Commander, we found him!
<Character name>: Is everything okay? Zojja, take a breath.
Zojja: It's not okay... I don't approve of what they're doing to him.
Zojja: We'll meet you outside before we head in.
Peitha: That didn't sound good.

Bastion of Strength instance[edit]

At the portal to the instance
Peitha: Eparch spoke of this place like a kingdom; it's—
<Character name>: Peitha!
Peitha: What?
<Character name>: I can see you.
Peitha: You can…what?
Peitha: You must be getting closer to him.
<Character name>: Damn it…
Inside of the Mabon's Fate story instance
<Character name>: So, we've located him. How bad...?
Dagda: Mabon isn't well.
Zojja: I don't know if... He...
Galrath the Undying: With us. Mabon's this way.
Reaching Mabon
Dagda: There he is.
Zizel: There they are, too.
Dagda: No!
Zojja: Out of my way!
Frode: Forward!
After clearing the courtyard
Dagda: Does anyone see Zojja?
<Character name>: Zojja! Where are you?
Dagda: Wayfinder! Get to Zojja's side. We will keep the rest away.
Reaching Zojja and Mabon
<Character name>: Zojja!
Zojja: Mabon!
<Character name>: Zojja, get ahold of yourself.
<Character name>: We need to fight.
Asthenes at 75%
Zojja: The world is downright cruel to anyone who gives a damn.
Asthenes at 50%
Zojja: He gave me a home when mine forgot about me.
Asthenes at 25%
Zojja: He saw me! ME!
Zojja: Not just trophies and awards. Me.
After using the Heart of the Obscure
Zojja: Go away!
Mabon: You did not die in that place. You have a home.
Zojja: (deep breath)
<Character name>: Hey...
Galrath the Undying: Be taken by the flow.
Galrath the Undying: I'll send a word to the tower.
Galrath the Undying: Zizel?
Zizel: (grunts)
Talking to Dagda
Dagda: How is she?
<Character name>: Heartbroken.
Dagda: You should have seen them. When times were less severe.
Dagda: Her flame was ill tended when she first arrived. Barely visible.
Dagda: But he helped tend to that flame once again. Gave her the tools that she needed to keep it lit.
Dagda: She reminds me so much of him.
Cutscene with Dagda and Zojja
Dagda: Pardon.
Dagda: What are you thinking, little light?
Dagda: Do you know how proud Mabon was of you? How special you were to him?
Zojja: And then he died.
Dagda: But our memory of him didn't, nor did everything he taught you.
Zojja: He took me in when the rest of the world forgot. I...had so much more to learn from him.
Dagda: You will only continue to grow, Zojja. But you have to choose that path.
Dagda: Mabon saw a spark in you, as he saw the stars in me. Tend to that flame. Kindle it.
Dagda: Your future could be...with us.
Zojja: With you...?
After the cutscene
Zojja: I need to sit.
Dagda: She'll be all right. She just needs to reflect. You should, too.
Dagda: I know you didn't know him for very long, but I think you can see what he meant to us. Especially her.
Peitha: His...callowness clings to the air. I feel the warmth of his breath collecting on your skin.
Peitha: Disgusting. The dolt follows Epach without a thought.
<Character name>: Who are you talking about?
Peitha: Did Eparch send him simply to cause havoc before the main event...?
Talking to Dagda
Dagda: Thank you for standing with Zojja. I'm sure that battle will stay with her until she chooses to cross.
<Character name>: Her future being "with you"? What did you mean by that?
Dagda: Zojja has amazing magical ability. When she arrived it was...untested.
Dagda: She'd spent so long focusing on her technological studies that she neglected the well of power at her feet.
Dagda: But she also knows much of the modern marvels that many of us do not comprehend.
Dagda: She is...special.
<Character name>: You want her to join the Wizard's Court.
Dagda: That will be Zojja's choice.
Talking to Dagda again
If Sorrow knew, she'd… (sighs)
Talk end option tango.png I'll leave Dagda be.
Talking to Zojja
Zojja: Hey… I… I need a bit. We'll talk later.
Speaking with Frode
Wayfinder, I… There was a time when I'd prefer the ward not see me in mourning. I want to be a leader they can lean on in times of struggle. But leaders mourn, too. And Mabon…
Talk more option tango.png He meant a lot to you.
I've never told you how I came into the ward, have I? I was once a shaman of Wurm. But Wurm abandoned me with dire timing… I… witnessed something terrible. My hunting party…
Talk more option tango.png We don't have to talk about this now—
No, I'm…fine. I witnessed Sejm, a friend, get stuck between transformations while we were hunting in the north. Something…wrong happened. Something dark. I couldn't trust the spirits after that.
Talk more option tango.png That sounds horrible.
My faith was gone. I left my homestead—I couldn't look my family in the eye. I didn't think Arina would miss me, anyway. I left to be on my own.
Talk more option tango.png (Listen silently.)
Isgarren and Uenno found me next, having witnessed what I did. They brought me to Amnytas. I didn't truly heal until he sat with me—Mabon. He helped me work through that trauma.
Talk more option tango.png I knew him so briefly, but I know that Mabon was good.
That he was. When Arina came looking for me, he was the one that brought her here. He thought we needed each other, and…we did. I… Arina…
Talk more option tango.png If she's out there, we will find her.
Thank you, Wayfinder. I think I'll just linger a few moments longer. I want to remember the sound of his voice.
Talk end option tango.png I'm here if you need me.

My story[edit]

Mabon's Fate loading screen.png

With the Wizard's Tower reoccupied and thriving once again, Zojja called on me to meet with her and Frode inside the war room before making my way into Amnytas. They introduced me to Zizel and Galrath, representatives from the Bastions of the Natural and Strength. Since his departure, Mabon has been sighted among the bastions and acting...differently. They suspect he may have been fighting off possession for some time to help us progress forward. He may be running out of time.

To help Zizel follow Mabon's trail, we needed to trace Kryptis energy spikes throughout the bastions. The best way to do this: opening and sealing rifts, and revealing clouds of consciousness that should help us track Mabon to wherever he's been hiding to spare us from his suffering.

***

Amnytas. This unbelievable place has loomed in the skies over Tyria, watching history unfold below. Each bastion represents a different magical school of thought, where the wizards share their ancient knowledge with the Astral Ward. Unfortunately, this place has been ravaged by the Kryptis. The ward is holding on by a thread, with demonic rifts opening all over the sanctuary while something...bigger stirs in the clouds above the World Spire.

Thankfully, my work opening and sealing rifts has helped Zizel track Mabon. By exposing the corrupted energies by taking down Kryptis, Zizel was able to latch on to Mabon's trail. When she told me he'd been found, I could hear in Zojja's voice that things weren't looking good. I'm headed straight to the Bastion of Strength to meet with the rest of the group—and rescue our friend.

***

I met with Frode, Dagda, Zojja, Galrath, and Zizel outside the bastion. The mood was somber and intense. Galrath led us inside, the severity of his tone evocative of what we would find.

We were ambushed by Kryptis—the whole thing was a trap. Zojja ran far ahead of us while we were distracted, desperate to reach Mabon. Dagda called out to her, but Zojja was out of sight. Unfortunately, the Kryptis kept us occupied and prevented us from pursuing her.

We fought our way through the halls until we found them both. Mabon hovered in the air, dark energies pulsing through his flesh. Zojja called out to him, but as we approached, another Kryptis emerged from his body, as if it had latched on to his very spirit before manifesting itself before us. We fought and prevailed.

Zojja called out. Mabon directed his final words back: "You did not die in that place."
We'd fended off the beast, but not without sacrificing our ally—their souls were tethered together, with one keeping the other alive. We did not hesitate, as our friend asked of us, as difficult as it was.

Zojja crumbled beneath the loss of another mentor. Her bonds with these people were formed long before my arrival in Amnytas. I could hear the anguish in her cries. She parted from the group. The rest of us gathered around his body. I knew him briefly, but in that short span of time he made an impact. He was clearly loved by these people.

Dagda approached Zojja in a small, quiet alcove. They sat together for a moment to grieve the loss of a friend. In that tender moment, I saw what lurked behind Zojja's emotion. Friendships ripped away too soon. Lessons cut short. Futures ended in the blink of an eye. First, Snaff. Now, Mabon.

Dagda assured her that Mabon's death would not disrupt her place in their world—in the Astral Ward. She even alluded to something...bigger. More permanent. A new beginning. They want her to join the Wizard's Court.

Even I was broadsided by Dagda's remarks. The implications... Would she see our friends again? Zojja clearly needed time to process—there was so much happening all at once.
Dagda and I shared a quiet word, where she reiterated to me that Zojja's home is here. Now. Her past is behind her.

Zizel and Galrath returned to the Wizard's Tower to deliver the news to the others, while Frode and Dagda remained near Mabon's body out of respect for their friend. Before I departed, Peitha caught a whiff of something, or someone, in the air. She wouldn't tell me what she was thinking, but whatever presence lingered silenced her omnipresent guff. As we get closer to Isgarren, that tension will only rise. Even questioning Peitha's morals, I believe she is uncomfortable with the events that lie ahead.
