Walkthrough[edit]

Join the instance and talk to General Nephus. Afterwards follow the markers on the map to defeat various groups of Kryptis. During the step "Defeat the loyalists battling in the treetops" split with Nephus and defeat the enemies on top of the trees. Destroy the turrets using your skyscale for the Clear Skies achievement. After defeating all groups, rejoin with Nephus and walk over to Eventide's March to regroup with your allies. Defeat all enemies during the following encounter to trigger the cutscene with Queen Labris. After the cutscene, six groups of elite troops will spawn one after another which you will need to defeat.

After that, the battle with Labris herself occurs. Labris has a charged attack which you can either dodge, move out of the danger circle or stop by interrupting her. The other attacks are common Kryptis attacks where it is advised to keep moving to avoid AoE attacks. At 25% health the fight ends. After a short dialogue with Peitha, the instance ends.

Back in Inner Nayos, you need to talk to Tecla the Venerable at the Forward Bivouac, directly east of the central ring. She will tell you about the Radiating Beacons which you will need to find three of within Nyedra Surrounds. The beacon locations are approximately indicated by circles on the map. For exact locations, check the Radiating Beacon article for a map. Once reaching each beacon, you will need to interact with it to cleanse it with your Heart of the Obscure. During the process, a progress circle will appear above and some Avatars of Spite will spawn which you will need to defeat. They can be killed with a single attack but if they reach the beacon, they will interrupt the cleansing and you will need to start over. Repeat this for every of the three beacons to turn them into Cleansed Beacons.

After cleansing the beacons, you will need to view three vistas which are marked on the map. Return to Tecla afterwards and talk to her about the beacons. Afterwards, head over to the coliseum and join the final instance.

In the instance, join Peitha and the others and witness the following dialogue. Finally, talk to General Nephus to end the mission.

Dialogue[edit]

Nyedra Surrounds instance[edit]

Talking to General Nephus
<Character name>: General. Glad to have you on our side.
General Nephus: Peitha—Her Majesty—forced the issue. I tried to maintain neutrality, to not provoke Eparch. But it was time. Past time.
<Character name>: She tends to get her way.
General Nephus: So I'm quickly learning. I'm pleased to have you as an arrow in our quiver. Your reputation precedes you.
<Character name>: As does yours. What's your read on this situation?
General Nephus: Labris is in a difficult position—she didn't expect to have to defend herself at Eventide's March.
General Nephus: I nearly suffered defeat here once myself during the Fourth Disquiet. It's not a particularly defensible position.
General Nephus: If Eparch is aware of the situation. I find it unlikely he would risk exposure.
General Nephus: So the one advantage Labris can press is numbers. And she will use them.
General Nephus: I have deployed Peitha, Arina, and Ramses in a horns formation, striking from the flanks. We will strike the center.
General Nephus: We must breach the defensive perimeter with a frontal assault.
After clearing the perimeter
General Nephus: Labris's guards may have established hiding positions. Beware.
When engaging the loyalists battling in the treetops
General Nephus: Vertical envelopment. Initiate an air strike.
Joining with your allies in front of Eventide's March
Peitha: Well planned, General.
General Nephus: Well executed, Majesty. Ramses, Arina, Wayfinder—clear these loyalists, and our quarry is cornered.
After defeating the ambush (a cutscene will play with the dialogue of Labris)
Queen Labris: Is there no limit to your arrogance? You believe yourself savior?
Queen Labris: You have no idea the committment required to ensure the surival of our people.
Queen Labris: The strength of will. To do that which needs doing, no matter the cost.
Queen Labris: I have the strength. Eparch has the strength. You? An upstart demonling with a cast-off traitor fawning at your side?
Queen Labris: No. You would lead us to extinction. I will not allow it.
Peitha: (laughs) You will not "allow" it?
Peitha: You've always shared Eparch's penchant for delusion.
Peitha: Tell me, Labris. Do you also share his appetites?
Queen Labris: We do that which must be done. That which the common—
Peitha: Convenient that our survival invariably requires the uncompromising prosperity of you and your king.
Peitha: No, Labris. I do not believe myself savior. I believe our survival and your prosperity are diametrically opposed.
Peitha: Here your prosperity ends. Nephus?
General Nephus: Forward.
After Queen Labris is overwhelmed (at 25% health)
Queen Labris: Traitors. Eparch will pick your bones from his teeth.
General Nephus: Execute her.
Peitha: Hold.
General Nephus: Majesty?
Peitha: This is the queen of the Kryptis. The one creature Eparch might truly value. She is worth more to us alive than dead.
Frode: She's too dangerous.
Ramses: I trust your judgement, Lady.
Arina: Kill her. Kill her now.
<Character name>: Peitha...
General Nephus: Peitha— Majesty. She is valuable, and Eparch knows it. This is folly. Every second she lives—
Peitha: Where you see folly, I see opportunity.
Peitha: Gather our forces. We need an audience. The time comes to reveal our strength.
Peitha: Wayfinder, a moment.
Checking in with Peitha
Peitha: Find Tecla at the encampment. She will have contacts throughout the area. We will have an army before this day is done.
General Nephus: I see Her Majesty's plan. It is bolder than I would risk. But she is nothing if not bold.
General Nephus: If we take this action, we take it with no reservation. Find Tecla the Venerable. Her knowledge will prove invaluable.

Inner Nayos[edit]

Talking to Tecla at the forward bivouac
Tecla the Venerable: You must be the one they call "Wayfinder." Peitha sent you, I presume. She has always been clever. And headstrong.
Tecla the Venerable: Tell me, what knowledge have you been sent to wrest from my weary mind, youngling?
Tell me, what knowledge have you been sent to wrest from my weary mind, youngling?
Talk more option tango.png We need a way to call all of Nayos to listen to Peitha at the coliseum.
Hm. There are beacons around us that radiate...you people would say "magic." Like the ones to the east that Lady Peitha and Ramses lit. Eparch uses them to drive his people into the shadows, trapped.
Talk more option tango.png What can I do to help?
Find the beacons in Nyedra Surrounds. As long as they are radiating Eparch's corruption, my kin are too scared to leave their homes. But your device—your "Heart"—might hold the solution.
Talk more option tango.png You mean the Heart of the Obscure?
Yes. Channel the power of your artifact into the beacons. Let your emotions run raw and pure so the hatred and fear from the beacons might yet be purged. Only then will Nayos hear Peitha's call.
Talk more option tango.png I can try. Anything else I should know?
Even your artifact has its limits. Cleansing a beacon's emotional magic will take time, and the king's fanatics will take notice. Be wary of any enemies you may encounter along the way.
Talk quest option tango.png I'm on it.
Talk end option tango.png I'll be back when I'm ready.
Talk end option tango.png Maybe later.
Talk end option tango.png Maybe later.
Talk end option tango.png Maybe later.
Talk end option tango.png Maybe later.
Tecla the Venerable: Once you locate the beacons, Peitha will have the throngs she desires. For good or ill. Let us hope for the former.
Talking to Tecla again
Eparch's beacons still radiate, striking fear into those longing for a better future for Nayos. Search for them. Change them. Only then will Nayos listen.
Talk more option tango.png Can you explain again?
(same as "What can I do to help?" above but with "I'm on it" as ending dialogue)
Talk more option tango.png What about that beacon right beside you?.
One of your kind managed to channel a containment spell on this one. It allowed your Astral Ward to set up camp here alongside Lady Peitha. Deal with the rest, and maybe this beacon will follow suit.
Talk more option tango.png I have another question. (returns to the beginning)
Talk more option tango.png Interesting
Talk end option tango.png I'm on it.
Talking to Tecla after having cleansed the beacons
Word has spread out that the beacons have changed. Nayos is listening. Lady Peitha will have the audience she seeks.
(Only after also having visited the vistas)
Talk quest option tango.png And the beacon beside you seems to be changed, too.
Indeed. It changed while you were gone. Clearly connected, somehow. You have your desired result, "Wayfinder." Nayos has come alive to listen to Lady Peitha. The Coliseum of the Midnight King awaits.
Talk more option tango.png Are there more beacons out there? (same as below)
Talk end option tango.png Let's home it makes a difference.
Talk more option tango.png Are there more beacons out there?
Likely. The beacons have been around for a very long time—longer than me, if you can imagine. Only recently has the Midnight King utilized them for oppression.
Talk end option tango.png Maybe we'll deal with those, too, if they're ever a problem.
Talk end option tango.png Glad I could help.

Coliseum of the Midnight King instance[edit]

Joining Peitha in the center of the coliseum
General Nephus: What do you hope to accomplish with this performance?
Peitha: They need to see that even Eparch's most valued pawn can fall, but also that mercy is given to the vanquished.
Queen Labris: (laughs) This changes nothing!
Queen Labris: They know the power of their true master. All that you prove to them is your weakness in letting me live!
Peitha: Save your strength, dear. You'll need it to explain your failure to your king.
Peitha: Children of Nayos, you have no need to cower so.
Peitha: Eparch's power fades with every passing hour. Even his queen has failed to carry out his will.
Peitha: The old world collapses around you, and a new one is being—
Eparch: She certainly talks the part, does she not?
Eparch: And yet, the people always recognize their one true king.
Eparch: I've watched this farce with amusement, but it's time for the jesters to exit the stage.
Eparch: Honestly, did you think you had earned the trust of my Kryptis?
Eparch: Do any of you trust the words of this charlatan? Speak now if you would follow this child in her outburst!
Eparch: I thought not.
Eparch: I will make only one offer: release my queen and you will go free. Tyria will be spared, and you can live in exile there.
Peitha: Oh?
Queen Labris: No! You cannot compromise with these traitors, not even for me!
Peitha: It appears we've found the gap in your armor.
Queen Labris: You will not use me this way!
Queen Labris: I see now how I have failed you, my beloved. I have become a weakness for you. But no longer.
Queen Labris: (screams)
(Labris sacrifices herself, feeding her life essence to the shocked Eparch.)
Eparch: No!
Eparch: You sought a war? You shall have it. Bring your army then. I will devour everything.
(Eparch teleports away.)
After Eparch is gone
<Character name>: What now?
Peitha: We continue as planned.
General Nephus: You have awoken him now. He will marshal every force he has against you.
Peitha: Have we been shown mercy until now?
General Nephus: Make light if you must, but learn from this mistake before you bring ruin to my people—to your people!
Ramses: Each of us knew the fire we were marching into. It will take more than his anger to dissuade us now.
Peitha: If only all generals could have soldiers like you, Ramses.
Peitha: We are...not yet ready. (sighs) We will probe their defenses and wait for our opportunity. I will call on you then.
Talking to General Nephus
Ask your questions, Wayfinder. I can see that they weigh on you.
Talk more option tango.png How much stronger has this made Eparch?
<Character name>: How much stronger has this made Eparch?
General Nephus: The strength he gained from the queen should't be underestimated, but the greater danger is his wrath.
General Nephus: He will care more about killing us that about his own survival. There is nothing that he won't sacrifice for revenge.
General Nephus: If we are lucky, he will misstep as a result.
General Nephus: But there will be no chance for diplomacy any longer. He will fight to his final breath.
Talk more option tango.png Will the Kryptis still follow us?
<Character name>: Will the Kryptis still follow us?
General Nephus: Some will. But many will see Labris's sacrifice as inspiring, as a model of devotion that they too should follow.
General Nephus: You cannot truly understand their perspective. They want to believe Eparch is the benevolent leader they've been told.
General Nephus: Witnessing martyrdom sets the soul aflame. It will be difficult to put that fire out again.
Talk end option tango.png It can wait.
Ask your questions, Wayfinder. I can see that they weigh on you.
Talk more option tango.png Why did Eparch retreat instead of attacking us?
<Character name>: Why did Eparch retreat instead of attacking us?
General Nephus: I do not know. Eparch does not lack for cunning, but his blood runs hot. It is unlike him to forego a chance at revenge.
General Nephus: It concerns me. He has something planned, and we do not know what. We must choose our next moves carefully.
Talk end option tango.png It can wait.
Talking to Peitha
Approaching Peitha, she seems lost in thought. She does not speak, hardly acknowledging your presence—her unblinking gaze trained on the citadel of Zakiros.
Talk end option tango.png Give her space.
<Character name>: Give her space.
Talking to Arina after the mission ended
Not how I hoped this would go.
Talk more option tango.png Do you think Peitha made the right decision?
<Character name>: Do you think Peitha made the right decision?
Arina: Well, maybe this could have been avoided if we had just killed Labris right away. But maybe we'd be in the same spot.
Arina: At the end of the day, we're planing to kill Eparch. Doesn't really matter if he hates us more or less.
Arina: If anything, we've removed another one of Eparch's generals from the board. That's definitely a positive.
Talk more option tango.png Will this affect the Astral Ward's morale?
<Character name>: Will this affect the Astral Ward's morale?
Arina: I doubt it. We're a resilient bunch, and facing long odds is the nature of our work.
Arina: Even trapped here, we've heard what Eparch did to our home. Until we have the bastard's head, we won't relent.
Arina: They're good soldiers, Wayfinder. I'd reckon the best. We won't let you down.
Talk more option tango.png Wait until Galrath hears about this.
<Character name>: Wait until Galrath hears about this.
Arina: It'll certainly confirm some suspicious of his. But...maybe he's right.
Arina: Don't get me wrong, I'm in this until the end. I owe them my life. But maybe the Kryptis are destined to be this way.
Arina: I don't know. I'm a soldier, not a philosopher. And whether we get more backup just isn't my decision.
Arina: A general marches to war with the soldiers she's got. If that's just us, then we'll do the best we can.
Talk end option tango.png We'll figure it out later.
Talking to Ramses after the mission ended
Yes, Wayfinder?
Talk more option tango.png Peitha's plan backfired a bit.
<Character name>: Peitha's plan backfired a bit.
Ramses: It does appear that way, doesn't it?
Ramses: Even knowing how fanatically devoted Labris was, I failed to forsee this outcome.
Ramses: All leaders make mistakes. I hope that this will be only a setback. We will press on regardless. We must.
Talk more option tango.png Will we be able to breach the citadel's defenses?
<Character name>: Will we be able to breach the citadel's defenses?
Ramses: I believe so, when the opportunity arises. There will inevitably be weaknesses, but it may take time to find them.
Ramses: Zakiros has been built up over centuries, both as a symbol of his strength and as a genuine fortress. It won't be easy.
Ramses: Let's hope you're as lucky as everyone believes.
Talk end option tango.png Nothing for now. Sorry.
Talking to Nephus after the mission ended
Ask your questions, Wayfinder. I can see that they weigh on you.
Talk more option tango.png Are you having second thoughts?
<Character name>: Are you having second thoughts?
General Nephus: None whatsoever. My hand was forced the moment Peitha came to my door.
General Nephus: And the danger Eparch poses to my people has not been lessened since then.
General Nephus: Besides, I have been a soldier since your world was young. You will find I am not so easily intimidated.
Talk more option tango.png Would Eparch have actually kept his word?
<Character name>: Would Eparch have actually kept his word?
General Nephus: Doubtful, but not impossible. His love for the queen was genuine, and for her, there's little he wouldn't have done.
General Nephus: But the better question is whether Peitha would have accepted it? And that I cannot believe.
General Nephus: I've seen the resolve in her eyes. She will sit on the Throne of Midnight or she will die trying. No other paths remain.
Talk end option tango.png It can wait.

My story[edit]

Eventide's March.png

I rendezvoused with General Nephus outside of Eventide's March, a sacred landmark that Queen Labris and her dwindling army were using as a base of operations. The general had taken great pains to remain neutral and felt that Peitha had forced him into a conflict that put a great number of innocent Kryptis lives at risk. Still, he realized they now had an unprecedented opportunity to remove Labris and her army from the field. Peitha had put him in a position to take advantage.

Nephus split our forces, sending Peitha, Arina, and Ramses to attack the queen's position from the flanks while he and I led a direct frontal assault. He hinted that he'd battled at Eventide's March in the past, and we watched as he masterfully employed varied tactics to clear our path to the queen.

We reached the cathedral-like walls of Eventide's March and regrouped with our allies, sweeping away Labris's last lines of defense. With nowhere left to run, the queen descended the grand stairs to make her stand. You'd never have known that she was outnumbered and backed into a corner with how regally she stood in defiance.

She claimed that Peitha would lead the Kryptis to extinction and that the rebellion leader did not have the willpower and conviction to govern her people. Silence hung in the air for a moment, then it was broken when Peitha simply laughed, shattering the queen's unshakeable façade.

After exchanging barbs, Peitha looked to Nephus, who grimly ordered us forward to confront and execute the queen.

Labris fought bravely. And lost. She seethed with rage, nearly on the brink of madness. But it was all for naught. Nephus ordered her death.

But Peitha had other plans.

Seeing an opportunity to rally the Kryptis to her side with a show of force, Peitha stayed the queen's execution. It was time to show the people of Nayos that Peitha could win, that Labris and Eparch were not invincible. Peitha had a valuable asset in the weakened, tyrannical Labris. Now she just needed an audience...

***

As Peitha planned to haul the defeated Queen Labris to the Coliseum of the Midnight King and show the Kryptis the might of her rebellion, General Nephus quickly caught my attention. While he had reservations with Peitha's chosen course of action he felt that it should be performed in front of the largest audience possible—that if this was going to be the plan, we should go all in.

The general sent me to find an elder Kryptis, Tecla the Venerable, back at the forward bivouac. She had knowledge of an array of beacons spread across Inner Nayos. These would serve as a call to the people of Inner Nayos, drawing them to the coliseum and giving Peitha a massive crowd to draw support from.

I activated the beacons as quickly as I could while Peitha and our allies marched on Nyedra. With a massive crowd assembled and the defiant Queen Labris now a feeble captive, Peitha stood on the cusp of bringing the vast majority of the Kryptis people to her cause.

***

As the throngs filed into the coliseum, Peitha called me to her side to witness her speech. I arrived just as she paraded the beaten queen before the assembled masses. The rebellious leader spoke with conviction—that not only can Eparch and his loyalists be defeated but that unlike the present monarchy, she is willing show mercy to the vanquished.

"Children of Nayos," she began, before calling attention to the defeated Queen Labris and Eparch's weakened army.

The Midnight King must've sensed the power of Peitha's position—felt her threat through the Veil and how she was turning the Kryptis against him. In that moment, a rift formed, and Eparch's calm, powerful voice filled the coliseum.

The king—an ancient, massive beast—stepped through, drawing all eyes to his terrifying form. Eparch hardly acknowledged Peitha's existence, asking the gathered crowd to speak if his upstart niece had truly won their trust.

The arena fell silent.

Eparch then turned his attention to the upstart rebel leader and his captive queen. Calm to this point, I could hear the tightly restrained fury in his words. He made a single offer of negotiation: release Labris, and Tyria would be spared. Peitha would be allowed to live there in exile.

Whether Peitha believed this offer to be in good faith is still unclear. What is clear is that Labris believed it. Even in her weakened state, she would not allow Peitha to use her as a leverage to undermine all that she and Eparch had built.

The defiant queen sacrificed herself to her beloved king's cause, forcing the last of her essence into him as the rest of us looked on in horror.

The crowd erupted in chaos—some declaring allegiance to Peitha, some to Eparch. The rest fled in terror. Even the king was stunned by his queen's martyrdom. Roaring in fury, he vowed to devour all who opposed him and challenged any who stood with Peitha to bring the fight to him in the citadel of Zakiros.

Peitha's scheme to inspire an army and overthrow the king was thrown into disarray. We were left with no choice but to fall back, regroup, and take stock of the aftermath of a disastrous day. Will Peitha's ragtag army be enough to invade Eparch's fortified citadel and challenge him in his full fury? Can we count on the Astral Ward? It remains to be seen whether the rebel upstart can overcome this misstep. I will help to the best of my ability, but I don't know if it will be enough to carry Peitha to victory.
