Question about recent 'Abbreviations' edit

Just wanted to ask: why was Slebbub removed from DSD? It's been on the DSD page since at least 2015, and I remember it being used in discussion as far back as Queen's jubilee (2013), yet Steve has always been a joke and has alternately been used for DSD, Lab. Horror, and the spectral sword that got into the Queen's Gauntlet center and was attacking everybody for no damage and couldn't be killed. Azure Fang (talk) 07:16, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

Editing while mobile fail, I meant to remove both names since they're nicknames, not abbreviations, that are already trivia on the DSD page. - Doodleplex 14:45, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
Gee, I don't understand mobile edit fails. Not at all! /s
I guess I can understand, then. But being that the case, shouldn't Bubbles be removed as well as Dorito, Taco, Apple, and Mystic Toilet even though they are very commonly used nicknames? I'm just trying to understand where the line is drawn. Azure Fang (talk) 20:30, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
My plan is to make a separate page for common terms so the abbreviation page can just be abbreviations, and stuff like Dorito, Apple, Steve, etc, can go on the common terms page instead. The only exception is Taco, because there's also the program TACO which players use quite frequently, and outside of the program, the only time I've heard it used is for the food. And now I'm hungry heh. - Doodleplex 23:12, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the elaboration. The common terms split sounds great. I briefly considered doing so myself, but never acted. Not sure why; laziness seems plausible. In a totally unrelated note, I'm definitely getting taco truck tacos for dinner tonight, but dunno why... -Azure Fang (talk) 17:14, 29 November 2017 (UTC)

Immobile

Immobile has two redirects (old names) that are used all over the wiki: "Immobilize" and "Immobilized". Could you ask J.A.R.V.I.S. to update the links, pretty please? :) --NIN37 00:56, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Done. Let me know if you find anything else. =) - Doodleplex 23:12, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Release parameter

Hello, I'd like to ask and clarify one thing about parameters, with the mount skins being a prime example - should we mark them as PoF content, because they require it to use them, or not, because they were released after the expansion? I'm not really sure, so thanks for the clarification. Sime (talk) 14:24, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Precedent seems to be that they should be marked as PoF content. Glider skins, for instance, are marked HoT content. However, this could be something that's not well standardized across the wiki yet and might need further review. - Felix Omni 15:09, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
I've asked a similar question before and it was basically answered as "whatever latest release this content is locked behind". So basically if you need PoF for it, then it's PoF release. If you need PoF and LS5, then it'd be LS5. -Darqam 15:39, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
Thank you both for the answers! Sime (talk) 15:42, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
Yep, that's correct, Darqam. If we didn't mark them as such, then gliders released after the release of PoF could be marked as PoF content, which does not unlock access to gliders. At the very least, it would be a tiny bit confusing. —Ventriloquist 15:58, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
I'm glad you guys answered, because I think I might have goofed on a few of the gliders. =x - Doodleplex 23:12, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Image over yours

Hey sorry about the thundershrimp image I overwrited, I assume you don't mind but I didn't see before after that they are nearly identical in quality anyway. So I suppose it's only up to which angle is better so revert if necessary! I have also been uploading more pets as I go, it takes some time but I was wondering if the work is good or not? I feel it is good and I am trying to basically make the pet pictures consistent and nice. I'd imagine if pets had a gallery of all pets you'd see it better. Anyway thanks! Eruru (talk) 15:41, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

For the most part I don't care too much, but for that one I do remember going specifically out of my way to try to find an area where the lighting was better, so I'm gonna switch that one back. Here's what I want you to keep in mind when taking pictures of NPCs: just because you can get a bigger image of an NPC doesn't mean it's automatically better if the lighting isn't as good in that area, especially if it's harder to see as a result due to background/contrast, making the slightly smaller, but brighter, image more desirable. - Doodleplex 19:16, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
That makes sense. I will keep this in mind from now on. I try to pay attention to that too lately but sometimes need another opinion :) thanks Eruru (talk) 19:21, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

Skimmer images

Hello! I created the skimmer skin articles and used a formatting I used previously for the lantern skin. Is there a specific way to capture the skimmer design since the vast majority of the design is on the top? Just FYI, The images were created with my extremely amateur (almost childish!) attempt at cropping without massively making the picture ugly. I tried... Thoughts? endeavor7530 04:15, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

I think you did just fine, since like you stated, most of the design is on top for the skimmer, so the angle you have the skimmers in your picture is the best way to do it. I'd probably crop it just a little bit more so there's less extra space around the skimmer, but otherwise, keep on as you've been doing. =) - Doodleplex 04:37, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
Copy-check! Thank you! endeavor7530 05:38, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

Getting back to ya

Not sure if the response I put on my page wall managed to ping you or not, but I'll drop my response here to just to be safe (still not 100% sure messaging work on wikis yet :P). Sorry about making the image with the wrong name, I'm still to learn how to wiki atm. As for marking the image "Free To Use", I just put it as that because I wasn't sure what else to put since I found the pic on Reddit. I have the link to the post here: Reddit Post. | Dieuraskel8124 (talk) 14:12, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

Sorry for being so late to get back to you, had a family wedding. Thank you for the info. I'm not sure what to do about it, as I just want to make sure there's no potential copyright issues is all. I'll ask somebody else who knows more than I do. =) - Doodleplex 04:01, 25 November 2017 (UTC)

Undeletion

Give the Settler (group) a finale by undeleting Category:Settlers.--Lon-ami (talk) 19:39, 24 November 2017 (UTC)

Is there some technical issue that won't let you re-create the category? All I'd be restoring is a move remnant that was tagged for deletion, not a category. That's what I get for being half awake. Still would like to know if there are technical issues that are preventing it's recreation. - Doodleplex 04:01, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
Just thought it was "discouraged" to recreate previously deleted articles without asking first, but I guess I messed up with another wiki's guidelines. You have a point, considering it had nothing of value, so nevermind. I need to sleep more too.--Lon-ami (talk) 15:26, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, that might be some other wiki's policy, but there are no policies here. Templates and guidelines yes, but no policies. And go get some sleep, I just wanted to make sure with the wiki's move to the new servers there weren't any lingering bugs. Doodleplex 15:57, 25 November 2017 (UTC)

J.A.R.V.I.S bot edit request

Hi Doodle, may I ask you for a bot edit? There are currently around 4-5 different format versions for items contained in Reward Tracks. Offical version according to Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Item formatting is:

:{{icon|reward track}} <name of reward track>
:* Tier X, Y reward. Z of total.

Mostly the format is either with an additional : after <name of reward track>: (Example:Beetle Loot Box) or without . after Z of total (Example: Bandit Archer Loot Box).

An older version is (see Bandit Loot Box):

Tier X, Yth reward (Zst of total)

Would be nice if you can unify this. --Tolkyria (talk) 14:56, 29 November 2017 (UTC)

Sure thing, but I have a small request myself: for future tasks that are faster or better with a bot, ask on Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Bots. Reason being, I've been a little bit busy lately(life. woo.=<), so if you post it there, the other two people with bots should be able to help you out. =) - Doodleplex 00:10, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks! To be honest I wasn't aware of this page, the next time I'll add it there. --Tolkyria (talk) 10:02, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

"Region maps are meant to be clean, no text or anything"

Not that I disagree with this revert, but the only reason why they're clean is because that's what was on hand. Ideally, they'd have zone borders (like zone maps having area borders) and names too, IMHO. Konig (talk) 20:43, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

That was based off what I saw for the other region maps, all were clean and void of text. No reason however that we can't have a clean map and a detailed one however, similar to how Tyria is set up, which I suggested to that user to do. - Doodleplex 20:47, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
That was actually my plan eventually, but I due to then-lack of proper know-how of what to do I abandoned that project for the time being... Which I do a lot. I should get back on it sometime... But the file names we currently have should be with names/borders, and clean maps updated to e.g., File:<Region> clean map.jpg Konig (talk) 21:57, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

Question marks

Actually, we can use question marks on articles now without issues, thanks to the latest update. —Ventriloquist 09:46, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

Whoaaa, crazy sauce. o.o Thanks for letting me know! I'm still a little leery about using them, but I guess we can switch a few things around now, eh? - Doodleplex 17:32, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

wee question

just a small question because I'm getting back into the wiki, after a long gap. So just for my own future reference, I see you have edited a few of my most recent edits, which of course is absolutely fine, but one of the changes I'm just seeking clarity on... whats the difference between Path of Fire and Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire, that I see you changed it too. Is that the preferred way of referencing PoF or is their a thing about minimising redirects? Again not a complaint, just for my own knowledge going forward, as the addition of the guild wars 2, bit seems abit like tautology and makes that sentence abit over wordy, but as I said I'm probably missing something. Kind Regards -- -- Salome User salome sig2.png 18:29, 7 December 2017 (UTC)

First, welcome back! As for that, it's just my personal preference is to link to things directly when possible, that's all. Some people like redirects, some people don't, there's no preference really other than the user's heh. Also tautology new word. =o - Doodleplex 18:33, 7 December 2017 (UTC)
No worries. Awesome sig by the way. :) -- Salome User salome sig2.png 18:43, 7 December 2017 (UTC)

Winter's Presence category

Hey, are you sure it is the same? The page Winter's Presence is a collection achievement, whereas the newly created page is a new achievement category under Festivals, same as Lunatic Wardrobe was for example. Sime (talk) 01:45, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

Yup, there is still the collection under Rare Collection, and new category under Festivals, just checked ingame to be sure. Sime (talk) 01:48, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
Dear Anet, stop making things confusing. Oy, the category is new, but the achievements in it aren't, they're the ones from last year, and if you've done them already, you can't do them again. I'd go ahead with the category, but I'd probably notate on the A Very Merry Wintersday page that only the category is new, not the achievements, so I'd put the category up in returning features. - Doodleplex 02:18, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
Want more confusion here? Two of the achievements - the ones available year round but tied to Winter's Presence - are in Community achievements and Rare Collections. So Winter's Presence achievements are in 3 locations. At this rate, they might as well just make all festival achievement categories visible year-round and not need to split their silly achievements like those two and the lunatic collection one (or were there many?). Konig (talk) 07:40, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

"NB"

Regarding this edit, NB is actually short for Nota bene, whish is just another way of saying "Note". --Cali (talk) 22:09, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

Ah, thank you! At least I know what that means even if I don't know where that line came from, whether official or not. - Doodleplex 22:15, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

Reverted edits

Halt! I think the indicators I used for Template:Heart of Thorns content and Template:Path of Fire content are better than the existing ones. However, because of how indicators work, I could add some white space to the bottom so they look similar to the existing ones in size and placement, but without the text. For bandwidth purposes, I could also reduce the size of the images, as they are on many pages, albeit cached. While the indicators are also links to the respective expansions, due to the nature of the Path of Fire logo, it may look a little blank without the text despite being from the official asset kit. Optionally, I could add HoT or PoF text to provide useful information to uninformed players, similar to what other MMO wikis have done for expansions. Which would you prefer? --— Cronos 04:20, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

I'd prefer to use the full official logos that we already have and that people already are familiar with than use essentially only part of a logo or a non-official one which, speaking professionally here as a graphic designer, makes it less identifiable and strikes me as being a bad idea for the official wiki to do. Not to mention, it's consistent with the other templates that use the full logos with the text. In terms of bandwidth, I compared yours and what we're currently using, and your icons actually use more bandwith. - Doodleplex 21:10, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
Despite also being a pro GD, I didn't actually make the icons! They're the official no-text logos from the asset kit. On the subject of the existing icons—I know that! I meant smaller variants should be used, or even better, SVGs. Perhaps I don't have a good understanding of the concept, but the current HoT one definitely uses more, but that's mainly because it's larger and uncompressed. That's not the point, anyway. I agree that the logos feel less identifiable with no text simply because of how they were designed, so when I have the time I'll sandbox variations of the optional plan with abbreviations with better implementations for LWS content. Thanks for your feedback. --— Cronos 07:15, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
The wiki software automatically generates reduced-size thumbnails when an image is used on a page, e.g. while the full-size File:HoT_Texture_Trans.png is 5mb, what's actually used on the template is https://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/thumb/1/19/HoT_Texture_Trans.png/35px-HoT_Texture_Trans.png which is only 2.7kb (by comparison, your version was using https://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/thumb/4/47/Hot_indicator.png/35px-Hot_indicator.png which is 4kb, which, though a minor difference, is what Doodle was talking about). - Tanetris (talk) 20:22, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
Oh, okay. That's not what Chrome DevTools was telling me but I'll believe you. --— Cronos 04:58, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

Ah, roger. I was hoping to cut down on things having to be updated manually on that page seeing as how awful it was, but I probably should have just grabbed the list and done it manually for that part. Oh well, at least it will look nicer with icons. Saying hi

Sorry to hear that you're having computer troubles. Hope to see you back soon! -- Dashface User Dashface.png 07:54, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

It's actually been an issue I've been putting off and it sort of blew up on me, so it's kind of my fault. It should be fixed soon, and thank goodness using mobile devices for everything I used to use my computer for stinks and takes forever(and twice as long when I botch up with my clumsy fingers going nutty). =( The only bright side is my consoles have gotten some attention and dusting heh. - Doodleplex 23:07, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

Cute trick

Nice method for getting those listed. Now for Anet to randomly give that vendor more scepters to sell :P. G R E E N E R 21:28, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

Hah, please no giving them scary ideas. It's the same trick I used to clean up the scariness that was the Steel to Orichalcum gathering tools, and because it worked so well it's actually something I've been meaning to do to all of the renown heart vendor items(already asked Vent what he thought, and he gave it the thumbs up). Unfortunately, the computer hijinks means that hasn't happened yet. =< - Doodleplex 22:21, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

J.A.R.V.I.S. replaced em dashes with hyphens?

Hey Doodle. I've just noticed this edit by J.A.R.V.I.S.; I think I might have spotted you personally switching out some em dashes with hyphens, too. Mind if I ask why? The general formatting guide recommends that em dashes be used to separate clauses, and hyphens be used only to link words. This is the standard approach and, personally, I agree with it -- it's just a lot easier to read when clauses are separated with a big, obvious line, imo. --Idris (talk) 13:29, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Guild Wars 2 Wiki:NPC formatting uses the small dash for skills. Simple as that. - Doodleplex 13:38, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
The NPC formatting guide uses hyphens because you changed it to hyphens. Granted, I had changed it from hyphens to em dashes some months prior, but I did this to bring it in line with the general formatting guide. Is there a reason why you think this should be an exception? --Idris (talk) 13:49, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
Easier for your average users or anon to add the shorter hyphen over the longer one. I'd rather make it easier, not harder, for people to edit pages "properly". - Doodleplex 13:51, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
It's not like anyone's going to get in trouble for using a hyphen when they're "supposed" to use an em dash. These things are easy to fix. Having it in the formatting guide, and already in use on various articles, gives people the oppourtunity to copy-paste it if they're not sure how to make one. Like I said, this is pretty standard English formatting, so some folks are going to use an em dash anyway, so it's not like you're making less work for the rest of us who would have to fix cases where people used the "wrong" dash. :p --Idris (talk) 13:56, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
To be frank then, the majority of people are going to use the shorter one, when adding skills and whatnot, because it's easier and honestly wouldn't have a clue there are two different length. Additionally in all of my cleanups of NPC pages, that's not the part they copy paste (people mostly copy the infobox over anything else). That's what I meant by "proper" versus not, most people are just going to do what's easier. 14:17, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
Okay, what about this as a compromise -- two hyphens, like I just used there? All the benefit of a longer line with none of the downsides of being hard-to-write. --Idris (talk) 14:35, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
I'm still confused as to why there's no em dash in the editor. That seems like something that should be there --Gimmethegepgun (talk) 14:53, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
In the context of this wiki:
  • Writing out the html entity name, e.g. "endash" or "emdash" wrapped with an amperdand "&" and a semicolon ";" is just as acceptable as the direct symbol.
  • We seem to use endash if its a numerical range, so for example Template:Weapon strength.
  • Emdashes are usually seen if we're separating an icon with a bit of text, or if we're breaking up a sentence—a bit like this—and then returning to the original topic.
  • Hyphens/minus signs "-" (from the numerical keypad) are for numbers, or users that haven't put the mdash in.
Imo it doesn't really matter which we use in terms of a hyphen or mdash, but mdash would be preferable in most cases. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 15:28, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

Regarding Stefan.jpg

Since you last reverted it, I figured I should drop you a line. I just uploaded a new version of Stefan's image for the model I'm staring at right now in-game. Not sure where the previous dark haired model is coming from, but it certainly isn't Stefan. Looking at the image linking, there are a few NPCs crossed to Stefan.jpg as a shared model - Mercenary Requisitioner had to be changed to Kalf.jpg, and I don't have any characters able to access the story step to confirm Harukk. I hope these changes don't harm too much on the Shared Model Project. -Azure Fang (talk) 03:55, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

Oh dang, that timing! I know why the black-haired version kept getting reverted(Edit: or maybe I don't), and I've just left a comment about it on your talk page. --Idris (talk) 03:58, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
There is a chance that Stefan has a randomly generated model. Quite a few NPCs, even named ones, tend to do this. Though the background difference with the dark haired version does make me question such. Konig (talk) 16:57, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
Stefan's model is randomly generated, I just forgot to notate it. And I promise that was Stefan that I took a picture of, though it was (shame on me) at night so that's probably why the background looked different. Once SAB is over I'm going back to working on that. - Doodleplex 17:36, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

Wasting 10 hours...

So was it you who wrote the current walkthroughs? I definitely don't think you should consider that time wasted at all! They're good, thorough walkthroughs; they just need polishing. I don't think it'd be anywhere near as easy for me to create the mockup if I didn't have your version to rely on as a template. :) --Idris (talk) 18:24, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

I was referring to the fact that both of the walkthroughs I did, Pain Cliffs and Storm Top, probably took over 10 hours, since Storm Top took 6 hours and Pain Cliffs I didn’t time, but it wasn’t as long(nor as painful ironically). Hence why I partially hope they make no more worlds...X_x. - Doodleplex 19:40, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
Haha, well, we do have word of Foreman that W3 and W4 are unlikely to ever come, so you're probably in the clear. ;) --Idris (talk) 19:46, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

Blind

Hey Doodle, just noticed that you moved the blind effect from Path of Fire to Blind. Tbh, I preferred the original set-up; I suspect that the majority of folks who search for or link to "blind" are actually looking for Blinded, so I feel like that name is much better off as a redirect. --Idris (talk) 23:29, 7 April 2018 (UTC)

If more people complain, then sure, but for the moment people see to be okay with it. - Doodleplex 19:27, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Bonsai Pot

Hey Doodle. :) I've been thinking about merging Furniture and Bonsai Pot, since the latter seems to be a subtype of the former, and I can't find any references to the name "bonsai pot" ingame, so a split doesn't seem necessary. I noticed that you created the bonsai page, and you usually prefer not to split in cases like this, so I thought I'd ask what your thinking was in case there's something I'm missing. --Idris (talk) 20:59, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

I'm not sure why I had it as a separate page. It might have been because it didn't count towards the daily perhaps, but that doesn't sound right. I don't know. Go ahead and merge. - Doodleplex 19:27, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the response! :) I appreciate you getting back to me on this. --Idris (talk) 20:29, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, sorry for the delay, my computer is mostly dead so I'm either editing on mobile or borrowing a computer from somebody for the time being, so I've missed stuff it would seem. - Doodleplex 20:34, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Sorry to hear you're still having computer troubles, though I'm glad the delay wasn't (entirely) because you hate me or something. ;) I hope it gets sorted for you soon! --Idris (talk) 20:43, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Question regarding infobox formatting

Hey Doodleplex, is there a reason why skill facts should be in one line for infoboxes? A recent bot sweep of yours (example 1, example 2) reverted my change to move each skill fact to a new line, which helps reading and editing said facts a lot. —Nefastu 19:13, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

They've always been bunched together as far as I know, so when I had the bot go through to have all of the interwikis in the same order I had it nuke extra spaces in the lines just to make it all consistent. Nothing more to it. - Doodleplex 19:24, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
Nefastu makes a good point about separate lines being easier to read and edit, though, and "we've always done it that way" isn't really a great excuse to keep doing a thing if there was no particular reason for it being done that way in the first place. Maybe in the future, you could have the bot add line breaks instead? --Idris (talk) 20:27, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Area+maps+poi interwikis

Hey Doodle,

Thought I forgot about this didn't you?

I had a day to work on this and got a first version (lets face it probably close to final version) done to check interwikis for areas, maps, and pois. The webpage is currently only on beta space (here). I highly recommend you DON'T use the beta space for the usual info gathering since I have a TON of incorrect info floating around for items and there's no auto-updating. Interwikis however have not been touched and should all be fine.

If you find any issues or what not feel free to tell me. If you think something else could or should be added, feel free to say.

At the moment these entries are NOT being updated, so they will remain for now a screenshot of how the names were as of 30 minutes ago. In the future I'll write something up to track name changes if they happen. -Darqam 12:26, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

Chieftain Alex has informed me that a shortcut I took is not valid. The current list of POIs is significant, but not complete. Will work on getting a complete list. -Darqam 14:41, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
3rd edit to annoy you. Alex helped again and it was a quick fix. You now have access to the interwikis for 12 regions, 723 maps (yeah, that many, instances and things count), and 1218 POIs (that seems a bit sketchy, but maybe historical ones or some that don't count for world comp?) -Darqam 15:10, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
Aweeesomme! Thanks a million! And I kinda figured you were just busy and it slipped your mind, so no worries. =) - Doodleplex 00:21, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
Soooooo I just realized these didn't include sectors/areas like Midwater Hollows. It won't be difficult to add those in so it will come around probably by this weekend. Not sure how I forgot those were a thing, but I did. -Darqam 14:34, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
Ahh, okay, wondered why they weren’t there. Thanks for the heads up! - Doodleplex 17:53, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
Ok, should have Sectors and Tasks done now (areas and hearts) I kept the api naming convention of "sector" and "task" to avoid confusion in my code. Plus I think it's straightforward enough in names. If you think it is confusing (not just for you but anyone using it), it would be a quick change. And again, for now still just on my beta page.-Darqam 03:14, 15 June 2018 (UTC)

Ezrielia

Thanks for the head up, I wasn't aware of this, why should I keep it on my page? That is my talk page after all? Anyway, If it really necessary which is sad by the way, can I remove your comment and restore the page at the beginning, (with the discussion with vent) I totally agree but that is unfair, that's some things you don't want to see again, a talk page or discussion anything, since this page would be deleted why not deleting the comment as well? I would like to make think about that and make an appeal to remove this rule, if really she is one. Don't get me mad, but would really much enjoy to have no talk page at all. :'( I can't even delete my account.. I'm forced to stay here and I can't edit my talk... I don't have the moral to make further edit these days or anything else, moving it to another page will not change anything, I would still see it. I just want to disappear from here, too much shame due to the Inquest Stone Gate talkpage and more, I will not hide it, but I hate wikis and their manners to work, because users aren't free as you prove it to me again. I really want to restart from nothing on my talkpage. --Inquest Overseer Ezrielia (talk) 14:30, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

Give me a minute and I'll give you as clean of a page as we can offer. I know talk pages can be annoying, but the are also one of those darn necessary evils. G R E E N E R 14:37, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

Ok thank you ^^ I made some changes, I waiting for your approval :) I looked into "Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Practices and processes" And haven't seen related to talk pages :/ Can you link me the article? ^^ By the way totally unrelated but I have a question, if they are some ambient dialogues within a specific location (Necrobrand Emulation Lab) should I put ambient dialog on his page or on the area page (eastern complex) ? --Inquest Overseer Ezrielia (talk) 14:55, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

Generally speaking, ambient dialogue goes on area pages. You can add a header before the dialogue describing where it was overheard. By the way, if it makes you feel any better, nobody is going to judge you for Inquest Stone Gate. You're still fairly new to the wiki, so it's completely understandable that you made mistakes. We've all been there, trust me. That was a tricky object to document and I can easily imagine even an experienced editor making a mess out of it! It's honestly not a big deal and you don't need to feel embarrassed. You've been an enthusiastic editor during the month since you started contributing, and we'd rather have someone who makes a mess while they learn the ropes than someone who makes one perfect edit and then is never seen again. :) --Idris (talk) 15:15, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

Great thanks Idris ^^ I will try the best to improve the wiki, and I'm sorry for these mistakes :p I will be more vigilant in the future, I learned many things.--Inquest Overseer Ezrielia (talk) 15:21, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

As for rules relating specifically to talk pages or user spaces, we're purposefully vague so as to allow for flexibility. Unlike its GW1 counterpart which suffered from massive policy bloat, this wiki takes a more open approach (e.g. I'm sure there's a rule on the GW1W which says I can't archive a page until x days have gone by). On this wiki, we'd rather do what makes sense, and doing a quick archive of a minor discussion was, in my mind, the proper action to take.
To echo Idris, thanks for your contributions. G R E E N E R 15:23, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

Thumbnails

Nice of you to mass remove all of my thumbnails edits on the screenshots for the race pages without first checking the points that were brought up about it on my talk page and adding your input prior to going ahead and making the changes. Skrittman (talk) 21:59, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

No need to be hostile, especially I didn't know you added them nor did I know there was a conversation about it. I was simply removing dead space such as random spaces at the end of lines, lines of white space, pictures with no thumbnail text, etc. If you want, feel free to add them back I suppose but it looks weird to have a thumbnail box with no text. - Doodleplex 22:09, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
It's kind of hard to not be hostile to something like that when you're the one that always goes on about gathering other people's input on things before making changes. The least you could do is a bit of research beforehand even more so when planning to do big sweeps of edits like that via bots. Skrittman (talk) 22:12, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
I usually don't ask if people if they mind if I do a bot run to kill dead space at the end of lines/after headers/etc. when I do bot runs, that's just regular maintenance. I do suppose I should actually formally add it to the bot page, so I'll go do that now. - Doodleplex 22:14, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
Bot runs to kill dead space and the like I could understand. I don't think anyone would mind that. Now, I don't know if the fact that almost every thumbnails I added were removed was a deliberate move on your part or the bot or not, but if it was, to me, that's the kind of thing that would warrant asking beforehand. Skrittman (talk) 22:28, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
I had the bot remove them because for all I knew either nobody had put text in or the text was removed for some reason because it wasn't needed and the box by itself just looks strange, especially on some pages like Norn where some had captions and the ones that didn't...looked odd/off. If you wish to add all the thumbs back in, would you mind adding a text comment about the picture at least? A happy compromise? - Doodleplex 22:32, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
Not all images with thumbnails need to have text. Like I said on my talk page, I decided to add the thumbnails because of the white background of the wiki. I personally think that adding screenshots from the game straight up onto pages without anything surrounding them makes them look jarring and I think adding a thumbnail rounds them out nicely. When I did the initial thumbnail edits, I added text to those I thought deserved them such as on the Centaur, Largos and Mursaat pages. Skrittman (talk) 22:46, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

category: abbreviation

I was tagging both redirect pages and disambiguation pages that would lead to redirect pages under Redirect:Abbreviation, so they all could be found under Abbreviation category.
Note that there isn't a category for pages that are abbreviations but aren't a redirect themselves (most "abbreviation" articles are already pure "redirect").
Saw some disambiguation were already categorized under redirect:abbreviation, so I thought it was alright to follow their example; if it's not the case, I'm not tagging them anymore (no need to clutter Recent Changes with dozens of edits/reverts).
I was working on the existing abbreviation list from Abbreviations atricle. --NIN37 05:03, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

The reason for that template exists is as maintenance template: if you see a redirect page that doesn't have one it either probably should be using that template or it should be tagged as a move remnant. If there are disambig pages using it now, it's probably because originally it was a redirect, and the template simply wasn't removed. I'll sweep through and fix those so nobody else gets confused, so thank you for letting me know about this. Cheers and happy wiki'ing! =) - Doodleplex 23:38, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
Okie-Dokie. Thanks for the clarification. I've been fixing a few mistaken "abbreviation" tags (when they should be "common term") as well, but won't lurker much further. --NIN37 09:06, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

I think your solution may have been better.

This is what I get for seeing the first edit to Category talk:Canine pets, but not the 2nd. Feel free to revert my edit if your way makes more sense, now. G R E E N E R 22:57, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

I don't really have a preference(I don't really bother with pets or pet pages...which might explain why my ranger has like no pets, woops =x), just look at the rest of the pet pages and follow suit. - Doodleplex 00:51, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

Batfamily

Ha! I am amused by this edit. I think I'm more like Alfred, though, acting in a supporting role in the background while other members of the wiki Batfamily are being much more active and prolific. Then again, the wiki community are all heroes in their own way, no matter how small or large the contribution so, based solely on matching gender, I'll accept the title of Batgirl. :) --Cali (talk) 03:33, 19 July 2018 (UTC)

Say it with me... "I'm Batman!"
Though if Cali is Oracle, who am I? Konig (talk) 17:38, 19 July 2018 (UTC)
Not Batman. - Doodleplex 22:16, 19 July 2018 (UTC)
And not The Ventriloquist... Or... Maybe you are? G R E E N E R 23:12, 19 July 2018 (UTC)

Removal of Legendary collection item descriptions

Hi Doodle. Is there a reason you've been removing these from item pages related to legendary collections? I made a great effort to include them on (most) pages related to collections, and prefer if they stayed. They're a staple of the items so much that Greener has them on his user page as a copy/paste shortcut, as do I. —Ventriloquist 09:07, 23 July 2018 (UTC)

Yeah, I thought that was just leftovers from the page not having any content since I was under the impression they were made all at the same time with stub tags everywhere when HoT launched: no collection achievement items before or after have the "is a trophy from <achievement>" text(which strikes me as slightly redundant with the infobox), hence my train of thought and why I've been removing them. I do think most(if not all) of the achievement pages do need the note saying if they can or can't be safely discarded after obtaining though, so there's a copy paste we need to look into finding out where it belongs. - Doodleplex 22:58, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
"I do think most(if not all) of the achievement pages do need the note saying if they can or can't be safely discarded after obtaining though, so there's a copy paste we need to look into finding out where it belongs" If we were to do that, we'd need to check every single item before adding the note to make sure that we're not giving our readers wrong information. While it is true that most items can just be purchased back from Mossi, I'd like to avoid any possible complication. I also think the notes would be redundant on items that already have the description (This item only has value as part of a collection").
As for the legendary collection item descriptions, I guess that's fair. In my opinion they offer a bit more than the infobox does - mainly through the link to the Legendary Weapons article - but I can see how they might be considered redundant. —Ventriloquist 23:31, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
You're right that a lot of them now do say that "only has value as part of a collection", though even with that part, some people aren't sure(I mean even I don't get rid of things until I've finished the collection just to be extra super safe). However a lot of the earlier ones don't have that text if I remember right. What if we apply the "it's safe to chuck these things" to the achievement guide page for anything after HoT and on the item page for anything pre-Hot that doesn't say "is junk guys", and put for any trophy that shouldn't be discarded (aka mostly part 3 and 4 legendary achievement making stuff) on the page somewhere? Less clunky, people know they need the thing instead of the copy paste "yeah it's junk". - Doodleplex 23:45, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
"What if we apply the "it's safe to chuck these things" to the achievement guide page for anything after HoT" How would we format that? Just make a bullet point list, or list them consecutively in one sentence? I'm afraid that'll cause the real clutter.
"on the item page for anything pre-Hot that doesn't say "is junk guys"" Thankfully, there shouldn't be a lot of such items, so I agree with this.
"put for any trophy that shouldn't be discarded (aka mostly part 3 and 4 legendary achievement making stuff) on the page somewhere?" I think most items that are labeled as such are components, and should be obvious via a recipe list or something that it's used later on in the collection, but I wouldn't be opposed to a note stating "This item shouldn't be discarded, as it is used for <insert reason here>." —Ventriloquist 10:53, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
In the extreme case where it may be non-obvious that an item should be kept, we can definitely add an extra note. As for creating a column or the like on the achievement pages, I believe most players with the question, "Can I delete this?" will travel from the game to the item page via the /wiki, so adding flags elsewhere may not help too much. I've been wrong before, though. G R E E N E R 12:32, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
That's what I'm afraid of, yeah. Seems safest to include it on item pages, where players will most likely see it. —Ventriloquist 16:02, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
