"Jadestream" Shun

"Jadestream" Shun is a Canthan Bladesworn found meditating on his Flow in Lake Lutgardis. As an Elite Specialization Mentor, he explains to player characters what it means to be bladesworn.

- Traveler, has anyone told you that tromping around behind a seasoned Bladesworn like myself could get you killed? If I believed you hostile, I may have cut you down.
That's a fancy greatsword you've got there.
- This is actually a gunsaber. It may resemble a greatsword, but only in shape and size. You may have seen them in your travels around Cantha.
- Tell me more about the gunsaber.
- The gunsaber is a tricky weapon to use, even though it has a lot of advantages over a standard gun or sword. The hardest part is being able to reload while performing sword techniques.
- Tell me about your flow.
- Flow is a kind of... mental state you need to be in for the most efficient use of the weapon. A positive flow is needed to smoothly load the amber cartridges required to perform a Dragon Slash.
- That sounds very different from a traditional warrior.
- To be "bladesworn" means that you are dedicated to the use of the gunsaber. It's a difficult weapon to master and, as a result, we cannot use the same variety of weapons as a traditional warrior.

- Tell me about Dragon Slash
- It is the ultimate bladesworn technique. You fire amber cartridges while swinging the sword to accelerate the blade. It can take out the most powerful of foes with a single swing if you do it right.

- That kind of power must come with a downside. (Same as "That sounds very different from a traditional warrior." above)

- What kind of history led you to combining a gun and a sword?
- The gunsaber is a fusion of an amber-based firearm and a more traditional greatsword. It was invented here in Cantha, though the advent of jade tech certainly hurried things along.
- Tell me more about the gunsaber (Same as "Tell me more about the gunsaber." above)
- What was that about amber?
- The ancient trees in the Echovald Forest create a special type of amber that can be extracted. It's a core component in the cartridges that are loaded into the gunsaber.
- Why not jade tech? (Same as "You mentioned jade tech?" below)
- Do you use this amber for anything else?
- Aside from the gunsaber, most Bladesworns carry around a pistol. It uses the same amber cartridges as the gunsaber does, which gives it a lot of stopping power at the cost of range.

- While the gunsaber runs on amber, it owes a lot to the advancements of jade technology. I considered calling myself Amberstream Shun once, but it doesn't have the same ring to it.

- A few of us work as mercenaries, but I believe many Bladesworn are employed by the various corporations as bodyguards or militia.

- It's a nickname i'm trying out. Haven't gotten it to catch on yet. What do you think?
