Shaemoor village nestles against the wall of Divinity's Reach. Centaur raids have become increasingly aggressive of late, and the Seraph struggle to protect the haggard villagers. Only the brave or foolhardy would venture out during a centaur assault.

Walkthrough[edit]

As soon as the introduction cutscene ends, talk to Corporal Beirne who will shout to get everybody to the inn. There is no real dialog there.

You can search Shaemoor for villagers, talk to them, and tell them to gather at the inn; this used to award karma but now has no practical purpose. Centaurs spawn infinitely and are by far the easiest opponents you will face for some time, so the tutorial can be a good place to learn your weapon skills and practice the controls. However, they no longer drop any loot, and give almost no experience per kill.

At the inn talk to Sergeant Walters, then make your way east to the garrison. If the garrison gates are closed, stay in the area and defend them from the incoming centaurs until they open. Alternatively, jump down to the right to skip the closed gates and proceed to the end boss.

Enter the garrison and fight off the centaurs who have overrun it. At the end of the invasion a Modniir High Sage appears. He is a more powerful enemy who can use elemental spells to hit everyone around him. When he is at about 50% health, he will become invulnerable and retreat. Follow him across the bridge, where he'll summon a Greater Earth Elemental, which will be the final boss of this mission.

The hands of the Earth Elemental are your targets. Both hands have their own health bar and both must be destroyed. Keep moving constantly while hitting either of them and you should be able to avoid most of its attacks. You can stand next to Logan to receive Regeneration and some other boons at any time during the fight. The elemental will summon smaller elementals to fight you, too. These can generally be ignored, as they do not drop loot or give much experience. Once the Greater Elemental is defeated, the cutscene triggers automatically and the mission ends.

Dialogue[edit]

Opening cinematic:

<Character name>: The human race once ruled Tyria.
<Character name>: Now, we struggle to hold our ground.
<Character name>: We've been defeated, driven back, and broken. But we will not surrender.
<Character name>: So many nations have fallen. Only Kryta still stands.
<Character name>: Our faith is strong, despite the silence of the Six Gods.
<Character name>: With courage, we'll make our stand in Divinity's Reach.
<Character name>: The city is my home.
If Street Rat:
<Character name>: I grew up on the streets. Although I have friends, my life has always been hard.
<Character name>: I've faced the worst this city could throw at me, and I sent it home bleeding.
<Character name>: I'm done living hand-to-mouth. There's a war on our doorstep, and I refuse to be buried by it.
<Character name>: Today I stepped outside Divinity's Reach, hoping to find better luck outside the city.
<Character name>: Problem is, when I arrived in Shaemoor, the village was under attack by centaurs.
<Character name>: Innocent villagers are in danger. Someone has to help.
<Character name>: I can take care of myself, but that's not enough anymore. Someone has to help those who can't.
If Commoner:
<Character name>: I was born to common folk, just one among many.
<Character name>: My friends and I don't seek attention or glory. It's hard enough making ends meet.
<Character name>: But I believe we can still shape a brighter world out of the ashes of the past
<Character name>: Today I stepped outside of Divinity's Reach to see the world.
<Character name>: But when I arrived in Shaemoor, the town was under seige by centaurs.
<Character name>: Innocent villagers are in danger. Someone has to help.
<Character name>: We can't go on living our lives in fear. I have to fight. I have to make a stand.
If Nobility:
<Character name>: I was born into luxury, a noble of Divinity's Reach, and privilege comes with responsibility.
<Character name>: I protect the commoners under my care. They believe in me.
<Character name>: I'm grateful for their trust, and I will not let them down.
<Character name>: Today, I planned to venture beyond the gates of the city and see the world for myself.
<Character name>: But when I arrived in Shaemoor, I found the town under siege by centaurs.
<Character name>: Innocent villagers are in danger. Someone has to help.
<Character name>: I will show the people that we can triumph, that there is still hope.
<Character name>: This is my story.

Cinematic with Sergeant Walters:

Seraph Soldier: Sergeant! There are more centaurs on the other side of town. Captain Thackeray's calling for reinforcements at the garrison!
Sergeant Walters: If he's calling for help it must be serious, but I can't spare anyone.
<Character Name>: I'll go. Captain Thackeray's never failed Divinity's Reach. If I can help him, I will.
Sergeant Walters: Balthazar bless you. That's the spirit that'll win this war. Good luck.

Talking to Sergeant Walters:

Talk more option tango.png Which way is the garrison?
Go east along the watermelon patch. You'll see it.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks.

Chatter inside the Inn:

Rescued Villager: I'm scared. Where's Daddy?
Rescued Villager: Be strong, son, I'm sure he's alright.
Rescued Villager: Poor boy. I think I saw his father's body in the street.
Rescued Villager: Keep your voice down. He's scared enough already.
Rescued Villager: ' have to go back. The looters will take everything.
Rescued Villager: Your life is worth more than a few meaningless possessions! Stay here, where it's safe.
Seraph Soldier: That soldier looks pretty bad. We need to get him to the hospital.
Seraph Soldier: It's too dangerous to take the wounded back to the city. We have to hold out here and wait for reinforcements.

During Defend the gate event:

Seraph Soldier: Captain Thackeray can't fight two fronts at once. Close the gates!
Seraph Soldier: Defend the gate. Captain Thackeray has his side covered. We have to watch his back.

Talking to Seraph Soldier during Defend the gate event:

Seraph Soldier: Centaurs are in the garrison! If you can fight, get in there!

Champion Modniir High Sage: Pitiful humans. You think you can defeat me?

During the summoning cinematic:

Champion Modniir High Sage: Rise!
Seraph Soldier: By all Six Gods, what is that thing? It's huge!
Logan Thackeray: That, soldier, is a threat. And we're going to take it down. Forward!

During Defeat the greater earth elemental event:

Logan Thackeray: For the queen! Charge!
Champion Modniir High Sage: Destroy them!
Logan Thackeray: Take out those giant hands, and the whole thing will come crashing down!
Logan Thackeray: Watch for debris! Keep your heads down!
Logan Thackeray: Rally to me if you need to recover!

When one hand is destroyed:

Logan Thackeray: Fight! Fight for everything you hold dear!

Upon defeating the elemental (in-game cut scene):

Logan Thackeray: It's not dead yet! Brace yourselves, I think it's going to explode!

Cinematic upon exiting:

<Character Name>: Where am I? What happened?
Priestess Amelia: You were injured when the elemental exploded. Captain Thackeray brought you here personally. You've been unconscious for three days.
If Street Rat:
Priestess Amelia: You had lots of visitors: villagers you rescued, some Seraph, and a nervous, shady-looking character who came by every day, but wouldn't give his name.
<Character Name>: That'd be my friend Quinn. You might want to check your supply cabinets. I'll find out what he wanted once I'm fully recovered. What should I do now?
If Commoner:
Priestess Amelia: You had lots of visitors: villagers you rescued, some Seraph, and even a tavern keeper from the city and his daughter. She came by every day.
<Character Name>: That'd be my friends, Andrew and Petra. I'll have to go see them once I'm fully recovered. What should I do now?
If Nobility:
Priestess Amelia: You had lots of visitors: villagers you rescued, some Seraph, even a noble from the city. He came by several times.
<Character Name>: That'd be Lord Faren. He's a good friend. I'll check in with him once I'm fully recovered. What should I do now?
Priestess Amelia: Fresh air and exercise are the best medicine. The goddess Dwayna helped you. Perhaps you could help others?
<Character Name>: Thanks, I will. And thanks for taking such good care of me.
If Street Rat or Nobility:
Priestess Amelia: Bless you. You'll find plenty to do out in the valley. May Dwayna protect you.

My story[edit]

Defending Shaemoor.jpg

Centaurs attacked Shaemoor today. I did my best to help defend the village. I met up with Captain Thackeray at the garrison, and together we were able to defeat the centaurs and their summoned earth elemental.

My story

Notes[edit]

  • If you are in a hurry, you can skip talking to Corporal Beirne and Sergeant Walters and go straight to the Garrison. If the doors are closed you can drop in the water to the west and go around to the final fight.

Objective and dialogue changes[edit]

  • Before the Closed Press Beta (February 17-19, 2012), there was additional dialogue with Corporal Beirne and Sergeant Walters, as well as an extra objective before reaching the inn. This is why the villagers have interactions telling them to go to the inn:

Help the people of Shaemoor.

  • x/3 villagers sent to safety.
Speaking to Corporal Beirne
Corporal Beirne: There's too many of them! This whole place is a war zone, and there aren't enough soldiers to protect the villagers.
Talk more option tango.png I'm here to help. Just tell me what you need.
Outstanding. Sergeant Walters is coordinating our efforts at the inn. Send villagers there. After that, if you still feel like volunteering, talk to Walters. She'll put you to work.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks. I'll start with the villagers.
Talk end option tango.png I'll help, but I can do more good on my own. Good luck, soldier.
Speaking to Sergeant Walkers
Sergeant Walters: You must be the lifesaver everyone's talking about. Whoever you are, thanks for sending those villagers here. We'll keep them safe.
Seraph Soldier: Sergeant! There are more centaurs on the other side of town. Captain Thackeray's calling for reinforcements at the garrison!
