So if editcopy is for talking about the main page...

Then what is this talk page for? Normally I wouldn't ask such a stupid question, but it is very late and I could not figure it out. EiveTalk 06:40, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

As I currently see it, it's a page for many people to throw questions on, even though they're not stating them on the correct page(s). Redirecting it to the editcopy's main page would totally screw up that page and this one is easy pruning/archiving? Personally I see no value in this page altogether. - Infinite - talk 13:07, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
On the original wiki, the main talk page was perma protected after some spambots hit it in 2006 - and it's been protected ever since. No real reason to lock this one, but that goes to show how useful talk:main page is in general. -Auron 14:09, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Main Page talk: on GWW is not protected... only Main Page. This talk page is for discussing the current content of the Main page. Main Page/editcopy talk: is to discuss proposed changes to the Main Page that are presented on Main Page/editcopy. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 10:15, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
That's what it's supposedly for; the actual use appears voided. At least the notice up there implies all changes regarding the main page are better to be placed in editcopy (and thus its talk, not this one). Also, surprised to see you here, Wyn~ - Infinite - talk 16:06, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Event Maps

Where are the events maps for Timberline Falls, Regrown flames and Valley Headland. I couldn't find them on the wiki. User:Sandoros

There's is no explanation or reason for them not to be on the wiki. But there is no explanation or reason if they were. It's just a few of many GW2 pieces that are yet to be uploaded or written. These event maps will challenge us, definitely, but that is probably for when the game is actually released. All current active editors, and those ex-active editors will be digging through these events and will most likely create better and more precise maps from the actual game. Not to forget that icons and such... If you wish, or if anyone wishes, they could uploaded it. ge4ce 10:54, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Hmm..

Should we create a lore feedback page? Reasons why things are the way they are. Relationships between species and races, such as: Norn and Human. - Lucian Shadowborn User Aios sig.png 23:17, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Sounds like a good idea. Be good for people RPing also I guess. Not only that, but that could also lightly touch on which races are sympathetic towards other races. Kaon Frostblade User Kaon Frostblade Frost Sword.png 16:28, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
If it's a feedback page, then RPs would be irrelevant. Also, and more importantly, there is no feedback space on this wiki yet. You could try submitting something on the GWW feedback pages, but I think they like to mostly keep the lore development to themselves at ANet. -- Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 16:32, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

It would be nice to have more organisation around which videos and articles have had a detailed examination and documentation to avoid duplication of effort. I think there are creatures, events and objects which were missed from the gamescom stuff - traits and skills are generally more interesting. :) -- aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 22:36, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

I want to create a link to this wiki using the logo in the top left corner, is that allowed and if so is there somewhere I can easily grab the logo? Draco 11:32, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

I guess you're not on FireFox. - Infinite - talk 14:37, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) I can answer you the latter, but not the former. -- Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 14:38, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
The logo is based in artwork owned by ANet, so technically, they are the ones who decide what can be done with it. That being said, I am sure that ANet will be ok if you just use the logo to link to this page. --Xeeron 18:12, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
I do have Firefox but I don't use it to "steal" images very often so not familiar doing it, since you couldn't just right click and save I wasn't sure if the image was protected for a reason. I know with GW1 most images we're made available to web site designers and that may happen again with GW2 but so far I've seen no official discussion on it. I'm assuming that at least some ArenaNet staff look at this site since it's on their domain. I'll make the assumption that the same rules apply here as with GW1 unless told otherwise, if ArenaNet has a problem I'll be more than happy to remove any and all images when requested. Draco 23:11, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
I just used Chrome, right-clicked the image and hit "inspect element" which led me to the page source which gave me the direct link. *shrug* Anyway, your plan sounds fine. -- Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 23:54, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

'this week's event page

the gw1 wiki has the link on its main page to the week/weekend event, say, treats weekend or double reputation weekend - this week is humanity week, anyone else think it should be on this page? the first ever week event for gw2? oops forgot to sign Getefix 19:47, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

im gonna get loads of people disagreeing lol
Eh, but we don't know there will always be a week/weekend event to put there. They only now did a weekly event, so if we set up the main page to match it might end up being a waste of time. -- Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 20:24, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
on one of the human releases (armour one i think) the guy says something about doing the same thing for the norn - so the next 'week event' will be one of the other races is what i was on about Getefix 16:57, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
That is what the "News" box is for. (Besides, knowing how long it took to get us to agree on the current design (3-5 months), by the time we stopped arguing compromising about how we wanted it to be implemented, the "Race weeks" would be long gone.) Aqua (T|C) 17:06, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
3-5 months?! wow - cant wait till the game comes back and there starts to be 'slay the shatterer double exp weekend' events and the website will have to be redesigned AGAIN XD Getefix 21:27, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
With that amount of arguing the game would probably almost be out by the time we settled on a Main Page design. Kind of a side note, the Norn are most likely the next "race week" to come out (as stated at the end of the Designing Humans article) though this might have been just a general statement xD /endspeculation. Has there been any further anouncements of "race/theme" weeks ongoing or in the future? That might be a prompt to try and hammer out an event box/thing on the Main Page sooner? 70.72.214.16 21:38, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
That is different. We can just have a box with an updated "events thing" then. Getting that box into the design would be the thing that takes time, and once we decide how to implement it, we can simply update the weekend event box. Aqua (T|C) 21:43, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
I doubt very much we will have those "events" that often; adding one now would leave it open for the majority of the year. I think it would be better to wait more (a lot more) before doing something like that. Erasculio 21:51, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
I don't think that a series of blog posts counts as an event, rather, just a series of blog posts. -Xu Davella 13:56, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Is it just me, or does the main page look too empty without a weapons and armor section? Is it still too early to add one? Above Average Joe 12:36, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
I'd say it's too early seeing as all the weapons and armors we've seen in the demos are subjects to change.
User Infinite Userbox.png 12:46, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
Wouldn't everything on this wiki be that? I think it is more in the lines of; If we add many things... we might end up changing everything because of a few changes Anet did. Less is more, sorta. Ge4ce-Talk-Contribs 13:08, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

I have, over the course of the existence of this wiki, made small and hidden changes to every page, each time with a different IP address. These changes are tiny and powerless, in and of themselves, yet all together they comprise the lyrics to the full song "Never Gonna Give You Up" as well as "Trololo". ArenaNet staff who have accounts on the wiki

i know i brought this up before but i wanted to ask about this again mainly because i was looking for a list of active anet users on the wiki.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 20:33, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

I think we should not put a link for (or even have) such a list on the main page, to reduce the amount of misguided content on these users' talk pages. The usual content found on the staff talk pages is a request for support, for which we now have the official support forums in place. I'd rather not invite such "contributions" to this wiki. It avoids unnecessary chaos.
That said, we can (and possibly should) still add a link to the user page on the staff member's main space article (such as seen on Gaile Gray), albeit as a note, unlike done in this example (the first use of the article's title on a page should link to the page itself). Their presence on the wiki is trivial and should not function, or be used any differently than other users' talk pages; to contact about edits/changes, to contact in the case of notable information they should be made aware of or to contact for chit-chat, as long as it does not excessively swarm the Recent changes).
This is just my personal take on this matter at this point in time. It may change, depending on the arguments that arise in this (and future) discussions regarding the subject. - Infinite - talk 20:51, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
A list with only one name seems kind of pointless anyway. pling User Pling sig.png 21:25, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
I can't think of a good reason to put a list of active ArenaNet employees other than to say "hey, they're on the wiki!" I feel that all those links would be used for is misdirected BS and general idiocy. People who actually have legitimate suggestions (GW1:Feedback:Main) and support issues ([1]) should know that their pages aren't the place for it, and people who need to contact them through the wiki should be able to find their pages without a link on the main page. never mind then... -User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 00:47, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

mesmer

can someone adjust the 8th shadow figure so that it links to the mesmer page. --Moto Saxon 00:56, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

lets just wait untill we have a image for that and lets wait until we figure out how we want to order them (personally i think we should go off the flash image on the website left to right.) -User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 01:07, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
as of now they are in order of release, starting in the center and alternating sides for each reveal. in the past we decided to list professions by class and alphabetically starting with soldiers, adventures then scholars. id say just go with that to keep it uniform. --Moto Saxon 01:12, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
The order of release is more symmetrical than ordering by soldiers, adventurers, scholars (as a sidenote, if we arranged it by armor class, there would be an awkward break in the middle of the adventurers...) --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Aquadrizzt (talk).
Don't forget to sign when you comment. there would be a break in the classes no matter how you ordered it. There are many different ways it can be ordered, but it was previously decided to go by class for the rest of the wiki. it doesn't matter to me how we do the home page, im just pointing out how the rest of the wiki is. --Moto Saxon 02:03, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
I am very well aware of how it is on the rest of the wiki, I'm just saying that here it would be unbalanced to organize l->r soldier->adventurer->scholar. I'll post a sandbox shortly to show why... Aqua (T|C) 02:54, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
I agree. I wholeheartedly support an alphabetic order. User:Glastium Glastium | talk 02:56, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Note the off-centeredness of the logo when its arranged heavy to medium to light. Aqua (T|C) 02:59, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

It's not a big deal if the logo is forced in the center while professions extend to sides. The problem is, the order should be consistent to usual custom, where soldier->wanderer->scholar is definitely not it (The official website is not even in this order). User:Glastium Glastium | talk 03:06, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
And usual custom to this wiki is armor then alphabetical. (read: G W En R T E M N) Aqua (T|C) 03:59, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
Aqua, im really fine with whatever, yes i agree that aesthetically it should look correct, the logo centered and the professions equally balanced. But that can be done just by resizing the icons. In your example the ranger was different sizes for each. So, I guess we should decide what order makes most sense and looks best. --Moto Saxon 04:59, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
here is what i would do. Its the two Soldiers right next to the dragoon then 2 Adventurers then 2 Scholars and then 2 random cus adventurers and scholars have 1 extra but i decided it would look better if you had them facing away from the logo.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 06:10, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
I'll note we could put them back in the order they're actually in in the group image (which just switches Necro with Thief, and Guardian with la-la-la-I-do-not-acknowledge-leaks). - Tanetris 15:12, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
haha. Surely tane, you can acknowledge two devs posting that the last profession is Mesmer. --Moto Saxon 16:06, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
Tossed up some variants on the Sandbox. I actually really like Scholar, Adventurer, Soldier (E, L(a-la-la), N, En, R, T, G, W). It has decent symmetry, everyone that faces a direction faces outward, and it's a sensible order. - Tanetris 17:22, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
I like that one too. It also has this pyramid effect with the classes leading up to the logo. Mattsta 20:25, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
What's the aesthetic balance that is desired? Balance in terms of overall well-roundedness on a team level? Like 4v4 with the GW2 logo being the v? If that's the case just apply a simple solution. Warrior + Adventurers as one group of 4, with Guardian + Scholars as a second group. Whichever side either group ends up on just place the heavy armored class closest to the GW2 logo. I feel like alphabetical order is the simplest solution. -- Blue Phoenix User Blue Phoenix Phoenix inverted.jpg 03:10, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Blue Phoenix, I wasn't thinking about it like that, but it's possibly an excellent idea. IMO, how about we acknowledge that ArenaNet has good taste when it comes to artistic composition and set it up similar to the way it is set up on the official professions page? Aqua (T|C) 03:19, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

we should come to some sort of agreement then push what we like live before wintersday stuff goes up-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 19:01, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
