Grand Vizier Utumishi

Utumishi may be a servile little weasel, but he moves in the highest echelons of Joko's government.

Chief Councilor Imann

Grand Vizier Utumishi is the head of Palawa Joko's civil governance. In Joko's absence, he has been running the Elonian empire from the Bone Palace.

Biography[edit]

Path of Fire[edit]

Utumishi served Palawa Joko loyally and was eventually appointed as the Grand Vizier of the lich king's empire. Some of the Awakened marshals, such as Wurmmarshal Osa Ekolo, never respected Utumishi or any of the other civil servants. Following Joko's lengthy absence and the subsequent Forged invasion in 1330 AE, Utumishi governed Elona from the Bone Palace to the best of his abilities while waiting for the lich king to return.

Later that year, news spread of what seemed to be a growing Sunspear uprising throughout the Desolation. While waiting for the military to quell the insurgency, Utumishi reassured a skeptical Osa Ekolo that Joko valued the contributions of her wurm corps as more than just rations for the Awakened army. By the time Archon Iberu arrived, Utumishi welcomed him with open arms, only to be confused by the Archon revealing that Joko had apparently returned and given the Archon orders to turn the military's full attention on the Forged. To Utumishi, the Archon not only sounded as precise as usual but demanded the vizier to organize the Awakened army to take the fight to Balthazar's Forged despite knowing that Utumishi held no sway over the military.

Before Utumishi could question the Archon's odd behavior further, Osa Ekolo pledged her corps to the Archon's cause while berating the vizier, and Utumishi quickly became subservient again out of fear that his actions would be misinterpreted as him refusing to carry out Joko's orders. The Archon and Osa Ekolo departed soon after to make preparations for the battle to come, leaving Utumishi to govern the kingdom.

Following Balthazar's demise at the Battle of Kodash Bazaar and the Awakened successfully pushing the remaining Forged back, Utumishi traveled to the Free City of Amnoon to not only meet the celebrated Hero of Kodash in person but also tried to discuss politics with Chief Councilor Imann, including Amnoon's alliance with Joko. He boasted about the Hero's success only being possible because of his aid.

The conversation was cut short by the arrival of the Hero who, much to the vizier's shock, was revealed to be the Pact Commander who admitted to having posed as Archon Iberu in order to gain access to the Awakened army. Mirroring their earlier conversation, the Commander promised that Utumishi's role in the "lending" of the Awakened army would reach Joko's ears. Horrified by what might happen if Joko learned the truth of his involvement with the outlander, Utumishi hastily departed from the celebration, narrowly avoiding a sudden Brandstorm conjured by the Elder Dragon Kralkatorrik which hit Amnoon shortly after.

Living World Season 4[edit]

After returning to the Bone Palace, Utumishi spread the lie that it had been Palawa Joko and not the Pact Commander who had defeated Balthazar at Kodash Bazaar, adding the feat to Joko's growing list of accomplishments. The tale spread as far south as the Domain of Istan.[1]

Dialogue[edit]

In Sun's Refuge
Not now. I'm explaining to the ambassador how Joko used to handle dealing with runaway livestock.
Talk end option tango.png I see.
During Console the Awakened loyalists event
Former Grand Vizier Utumishi: Commander, have you ever seen such a pathetic heap of Awakened? They think Joko's coming back. And Sianna won't let us leave without them.
Talk more option tango.png What happened?
Ambassador Sianna: Utumishi here told his loyalists that their beloved god-king's gone. Forever. It came as quite a shock.
Talk more option tango.png Good job, Utumishi.
Former Grand Vizier Utumishi: Joko's death is a tragic loss, but more importantly, I'm in danger out here. They have to leave!
Talk back option tango.png I've got another question.
Former Grand Vizier Utumishi: Hurry up!
Talk more option tango.png What brings them here? (Same as "Why'd they come here?")
Talk more option tango.png So...that djinn. (Same as "What's the djinn doing here?")
Talk end option tango.png I'll talk to them.
Talk end option tango.png I'll se what I can do.
Talk back option tango.png Oof. Can I ask something else?
Talk end option tango.png I'll talk to them.
Talk more option tango.png Why'd they come here?
Former Grand Vizier Utumishi: King Joko returned to his people here after centuries of imprisonment. They hope he can pull another trick like that.
Talk more option tango.png But he's dead.
Ambassador Sianna: I don't suppose your dragon would be willing to vomit up some proof?
Talk back option tango.png I doubt it. Can I ask you something else?
Talk end option tango.png There must be another way.
Talk back option tango.png I want to ask something else.
Talk end option tango.png I'll talk to them. See if I can get them to leave.
Talk more option tango.png What's the djinn doing here?
Ambassador Sianna: He was passing by. I convinced him to protect us, at least for a while.
Talk back option tango.png I want to ask something else.
Talk end option tango.png He won't stay forever. I'll see what I can do.
Talk more option tango.png I'll talk to them.
Ambassador Sianna: Thanks. Utumishi's a numbskull, and I'm not exactly comforting.
Talk end option tango.png Let me see what I can do.

Notes[edit]

  • Grand Vizier Utumishi's name changes into Former Grand Vizier Utumishi during dialogue with him in A Shattered Nation, which persists in subsequent maps and instances.
