Talk:Aquatic Headgear
It's called an Aqua Breather. --Moto Saxon 23:41, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

- More sauce at 4:20. One of the devs pulls up the hero panel and mentions that to breath underwater you have an equipment piece called an aqua breather...its a breathing apparatus that allows you to breath underwater. Just pointing out that everyone is only calling the aqua breather a breathing apparatus, although apparatus is not the technical name. --Moto Saxon 14:53, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
Official Name[edit]
Anet uses this name to refer to the type of underwater-breathing equips. There's more than just "Aqua Breather", and that's been noted plenty of times. See Talk:Aqua Breather. ~~ Kiomadoushi 17:06, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
- There is now an in-game term. The TP filter calls them "aquatic helm"s. Shall we use this term on the wiki? 76.253.0.17 06:23, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
- Equipment slot tooltip defines them as Aquatic Headgear. Whichever we're going to use, a ton links will get redirected. Mediggo 13:30, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
- The same discrepancy occurs for most armor types (Hero panel/TP): chest/coat, hands/gloves, headgear/helm, etc. I think the item tooltips agree with the TP, mostly, so we should probably follow that. —Dr Ishmael 14:05, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

What makes an armor[edit]
If a breathing apparatus is counted as an armor, does crafting tools counts as well? They both belong to the accessories. Glastium | talk 15:25, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah I didn't actually know where to put it. I just put it in there because it gives you armor? *shrugs* Where do you reckon it should go? --Xu Davella 15:29, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- I guess... just accessory? Do we have such category? Glastium | talk 15:31, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- hrm, not at the moment. Accessories doesn't even have its own article yet either, still redirects to equipment. Come to think of it, do we have any specific accessories to list? --Xu Davella 15:40, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- Lemme see... It seems we have only had jewelry and breathing apparatus so far. But from this surely crafting tools should be included though not existed for now. I guess I'll create one. Glastium | talk 15:49, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
- We don't have a category for accessories because the final category tree hasn't been finalized. So it basically means "yes, add one in, but it may be temporary." I'll give that thing a crack tomorrow if I'm brave enough :S --Xu Davella 16:07, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Missing apparatus?[edit]
What happens if you have no breathing apparatus (e.g. you sold your starter apparatus) and you try to swim? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 50.0.107.173 (talk).
- A friend of mine tested this out during the last beta weekend event. If you have no breathing apparatus, and you are underwater, then no apparatus will appear on your character, but you will still be able to 'breathe'. Initia Nova 00:49, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Crafting details[edit]
How do you craft this piece of armor? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 218.186.18.236 (talk) at 08:55, 30 August 2012 (UTC).
- You should really sign your post. But yes, if breathing apparatuses can indeed be crafted, can anyone add the recipes to each discipline's page ? -Alarielle- 14:32, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
Item slot & stat bonuses[edit]
After some testing in the PvP area (when I noticed some oddities with my stats not explained in the article or on Armor), a breathing apparatus actually replaces the "head armor" slot when underwater, stats and all. You even lose your rune's set bonus unless one of the same type exists on the apparatus. This also means if you use a different rune on it, you will only gain said rune's effects underwater. I didn't want to shove this into the article as anon and don't feel like trying to find my old account right now... -- 70.114.241.211 01:08, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
Armour Type Tidy Up[edit]
This Category of armours is a bit of a mess... it needs either one of 2 things, all aquabreathers for a class tidied into a single page light, medium, heavy, or separate page for each kind with a table showing level, aquabreather name, NPC for purchase along with their area details on this main article, which would people prefer? i'll start on the Latter option this weekend if there is no other response before then Joironfist 18:25, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
- I had no good idea how to organize these thing. Some aqua breather are there for only light armor, other can be used by all armour classes. The typical idea is to make one article for every aqua breather and have the armor infobox do the auto categorisation. Perhaps it would be just good to list the aqua breathers who are available for all classes three times on the page, once for every armor class, because these things have diffrent statss far as I know. - Yandere 18:41, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
- My main thought was having a single place where you can see which is the best available at your current level, the 2nd option could easily be expanded with light\medium\heavy ticks to show which of those type are available? Joironfist 18:57, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
- This should be handled by a list or probably better a table of aqua breather per level in this article. This has not neccessary something to do with the category, which is currently a mess, but perhaps it is good to get all information tabled on this page an than go through the single articles to clean them up according to table. - Yandere 19:52, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

- Thoughts on the table looking like so:
Level | Vendor | Vendor Type () | \Light | Medium | Heavy | Zone | Area | Cost (rare\master) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
32 | Mei Shadowwalker | 1 | 1 | 1 | Gendarran Fields | Provern Shore | 280\560 | |
47 | Creator Zee | 1 | 1 | 1 | Bloodtide Coast | Stormbluff Isle | 371\735 | |
61 | Engineer Verutum | 1 | 1 | 1 | Fireheart Rise | Fuller Cistern | 455\910 |
- I think that's the most important details there, type () seems sensible to include so people know if they need to complete something before they can get the equipment as some are available from normal karma merchants? An additional column might be the item name, but until actual item pages are cleaned up, that doesn't seem too useful? Joironfist 17:40, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
- That looks good to me. - Yandere 17:35, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
- Last thing it needs then is a section heading, Vendor Locations maybe? Joironfist 17:45, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
- Usually people just call it "types" this is kind of common for animials and also equipment. - Yandere 18:44, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Trying to get a better version[edit]
I attempted to get a better version than the green (and blue) versions you can pick up from karma vendors by dumping a whole bunch in the mystic forge. It seems there is no better version in the game. Generally; put four of the same type items in the forge, receive the same type item back out. That is, four boots go in, some boots come out. Daggers go in, dagger comes out. When I tried this with the breather, I received random pieces of armour. Boots, shoulders, and so on. This makes me suspect that no version of the breather exists in the game aside from the karma versions. (I made six attempts with level 77 green breathers). 115.64.200.42 16:51, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
- So there is no way to get a rare or exotic level 80 underwater head armor? It would help a lot in the aquatic ruin fractal...
- Nope, the best available is masterwork. But seriously, how much would a few stat points on headgear help? On medium armor, MW is 80 defense and +37/+26 attributes; exotic is 97 defense and +45/+32 attributes. Difference is 17 defense and +8/+6 attributes. That's not a whole lot at all, considering your defense will already be over 1000 and your attributes at least 1500. —Dr Ishmael 16:01, 25 December 2012 (UTC)
- The Trading Post shows gold aquatic helmets now. I have no clue where to get them. The description mentions Magister Izzmek but he doesn't sell them. Possibly an event reward?--Fogeltje (talk) 16:16, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
- Breathing apparatus#Rewards —Dr Ishmael 16:30, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
Found this while looking for a better aquabreather. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Explorer_Gavbeorn_Serpentslayer. From what it says, this link is where to get the best green or blue lvl 80 versions that do not come from a rare drop out of a chest or event. Ideally it's not the stats i would like to have on it, but its much btr than having a lvl 61. The only other info i could find about a better one was the notation at the bottom of that page referencing a rare aquabreather obtainable from PVP starting 9/17/13. --cherp821 18 January 2015
Skin[edit]
I'm wondering for a long time now, i have one with the skin of a headband/frontlet very similiar to a headpiece i know from overwater... Is this skin intended? --77.23.12.236 00:10, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
Recruit Wongoo[edit]
Where is Recruit Wongoo supposed to be precisely? I swam around in the Straits and Terzetto Bay (according to the list of Karma vendors that's his area) but couldn't find him. Does he only spawn after an event?--Fogeltje (talk) 18:04, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
Missing Vendor[edit]
This list is missing Lieutenant Pickins in Harathi Hinterlands, just an FYI. --Skekzyz (talk) 20:03, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
equipping breathing apparatus in error[edit]
I got a gold level 80 air filtration device of antitoxin and foolishly eqipped in on land and said yes to the soulbound. Now it is considered a helmut. Is there any sort of fix, or is it just salvage material? Keithmcm (talk) 16:24, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- Air-Filtration Device of Antitoxin (heavy) - it *is* a non-aquatic helm, it just has the appearance of an aquabreather. There's no way to cross-equip non-aquatic and aquatic helms. —Dr Ishmael 17:26, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
Underrepresented[edit]
I feel like Breathing Apparatus are vastly underrepresented in the game. There are no exotics, and not every Prefix get's represented across the levels. Unless an exotic Carrion and Cleric's version exists at level 80, I missed it. --SlatzG (talk) 18:25, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
- That's certainly true, but aquatic combat sucks and is mostly avoidable so its not such a big deal. Psycho Robot (talk) 18:31, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
Rime-Rimmed Mariner's Rebreather[edit]
Ancient Mariner's Oilcloth Bag gives a Rime-Rimmed Mariner's Rebreather which I think is the first exotic breathing apparatus. Seems worth mentioning, otherwise readers may think that Benthic breathers are still the best available. 173.228.12.7 09:39, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
Ascended[edit]
The existence of ascended breathers does not appear to be linked to from anywhere else on the wiki. Pages exist for individual breathers (of prefix/weight), but are only linked to through prefix navigation templates (Template:Ascended_armor_nav). TehAnonymous (talk) 19:46, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
Ascended Reforge[edit]
I just confirmed that it is indeed inpossible, to Reforge [1] Ascended Aqua Breathers to Viper's Statcombination. I would assume the same for other HOT-introduced Statcombinations too. --Raphi54 (talk) 19:46, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
Huh, so Yassith's Leather/Cloth/Metal Breather is a thing?"impossible" whoops, yeah that sucks. -Chieftain Alex 21:29, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
Claryfing stat change for[edit]
Currently, there are 3 (maybe more) statements regarding ascended breathing apparatuses and Mystic Forge:
- 1) Breathing apparatus: "The prefixes of the breathers cannot be changed in the Mystic Forge."
- 2) Anthology of Heroes: "Will not work with trinkets or back items, as they are not armor (even though the trading post lists them under that category), and also not on some breathers."
- 3) Wegloop's Air Helmet: "The Mystic Forge can change it to any Ascended crafted breathing apparatus using the formula for changing the attribute combinations on Ascended quality armor."
I think this information should be researched and united to prevent confusion. Sime (talk) 20:54, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

Feedback 2018/05/11[edit]
The breathing gear sold by Dive Master Astora should be added, but I don't see how to do that. --Separ (talk) 22:54, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
- They are added, just refresh the page few times and you can see it. Sime (talk) 23:06, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
Gallery[edit]
There is no gallery for breathers on this page. They are also completely unmentioned on pages like heavy armor and human female heavy armor. The latter kind of page doesn't have any armor not part of a set, in fact. 76.84.39.34 01:25, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
- We have Standalone armor for armour that isn't part of a set; it's linked in the "See also" sections of both this article and Armor set. But you're right that a gallery wouldn't be amiss on this page! --Idris (talk) 01:40, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
Feedback 2018/09/23[edit]
This article is requesting verification: "The prefixes of the breathers cannot be changed in the Mystic Forge.[verification requested]"
This statement is false. I cannot speak to the Wegloop's versions, but crafted versions can change prefixes using the standard armor formula in the Mystic Forge.
While I've done this a few times, I just had need to do it again. I took a Saphir's Cloth Breather, Viper's Orichalcum Imbued Inscription, 5 Globs of Ectoplasm, and an Anthology of Heroes and successfully placed them in the Mystic Forge. It created a Yassith's Cloth Breather as expected.
- Yes, I already brought this up on the talk page (See Claryfing stat change for), but got no response. It definitely needs update and clarifications. Sime (talk) 16:00, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
- I've removed this statement. If anyone can find a breather that cannot be stat swapped, feel free to make a note of it. - BuffsEverywhere (talk) 23:22, 24 December 2018 (UTC)
