My Thanks[edit]

Thank you for tending to the Gem Store pages during my absence. While I know that I do not own anything on here, the Gem Store pages are very dear to me. Thus, allow me to thank you for managing them. Since I kind of "deserted my post", I've no right to just waltz in and take over again. Please let me know if you plan to maintain the pages in the future as well or if you want me to resume my work. If you decide to continue, you're welcome to my data any time. Either way, please accept this. It was supposed to be a tiger but somehow transformed into this. Oddly enough, the last time I attempted a tiger I ended up with a balloon instead... User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 20:04, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

Oh please, by all means take those devilish pages back! I don't know how you managed to stay on top of things so quickly with those pages... Seriously though it took a bit to understand how it all worked but now that I have the hang of it, it doesn't seem too bad. I'll gladly let you take back the main work on those pages; but I might make an edit here and there if I notice something missing for too long.
Regardless of how non-tiger it may look; your skills in Origami are far greater than my own; so congratulations and thanks!
If you do have a secret however for maintaining the Gem Store pages, I would love to hear it. -Darqam (talk) 20:15, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll start updating the pages tomorrow. ...and there's no secret. Just document everything as soon and quickly as possible. User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 20:21, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

First archive[edit]

Hey Darq-human, congrats on your first archive. You even moved the talk pages! —Ventriloquist 21:08, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

I may have stalked the conversation between you and Doodle... and taken 10 minutes to make sure I was doing it right... maybe... probably happened. -Darqam (talk) 21:24, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

Request for Render[edit]

Silver Shatterer Trophy do you think you could get a render for the decoration page? - Doodleplex 03:45, 1 October 2016 (UTC)

I'll check in game, but I'm fairly certain I can even get an in-game picture. -Darqam (talk) 16:27, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
And done File:Silver Shatterer Trophy.jpg If someone can take a higher res, contact me in-game so I can pull you in to Att guild hall. -Darqam (talk) 16:45, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
Looks rather gold. Konig (talk) 17:27, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
That's definitely the silver one. It's just in the sunlight I guess. -Darqam (talk) 17:55, 1 October 2016 (UTC)

Admin Request[edit]

Hey Darq, would you mind reviewing my feedback on Desert Boarderlands and the request made there? Thanks! ^.^The preceding unsigned comment was added by AlphawolfKC (talkcontribs) at 17:19, 6 October 2016 (UTC).

Hiya, so first off I'm not an admin at all, I just live here is all. Secondly, make sure you always sign your comments with "~~~~" so we know who is talking ;). As for the edit done to desert borderlands. I personally disagree since there is a statement saying they aren't in game at the moment. I don't consider 2 columns of a table to really be "clutter". -Darqam (talk) 17:35, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Bot uploads[edit]

Hey Darq-human, just a heads up. Your bot forgot to add ==Licensing== when uploading the files. —Ventriloquist 21:15, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

nuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu *cry*. Sorry about that... Attempted something for the first time and had a few problems. Shouldn't happen again. -Darqam (talk) 22:13, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but you leave us no choice. You must be sacrificed for King Thorn's entertainment. —Ventriloquist 22:34, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
Wow... ok... I see how it is. -Darqam (talk) 23:06, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
There, ran the bot on all the files. Should be nice and pretty. *sticks tongue out* -Darqam (talk) 23:36, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
Neat! Also, thanks for botting all those weapon pages, I hate making them. —Ventriloquist 10:12, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
I really don't mind given that I just copy paste pre-made code for those. The first goal of my website was exactly for those weapon collections, so it works well :p. -Darqam (talk) 13:40, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Good morning! G R E E N E R 15:04, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
You start my day by confusing me and making me doubt myself; Don't know that I'd say it was a 'good' morning; but as someone who teaches math you probably knew that and did it on purpose, didn't you? -Darqam (talk) 15:10, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
It's how I always try to start my day. Leaving people to ruminate over what was once trivial is fun. Yesterday I had a student's jaw drop when he realized why three hundred one must be written as 301, while the ancient Greeks could get away with τα or ατ. G R E E N E R 15:40, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
To really annoy the student, and possibly others, you should also tell them how other languages (notably german) pronounces those... 33=three and thirty, because screw inter-language consistency... That said I didn't know about that greek writing... lucky students they were. -Darqam (talk) 16:10, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
I'll keep that one in mind! I also think the French were smoking something funny when they came up with quatre-vingts. G R E E N E R 16:34, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Quatre-vingt-dix-neuf (four-twenty-ten-nine, i.e 4 times 20 plus 10 plus 9), yeah french naming got really weird after a while... I mean it's sort of logical but so damn inconsistent... makes you wonder if Anet naming staff is french. -Darqam (talk) 16:53, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

Snazzy new signature you got there, Darq-human. —Ventriloquist 16:59, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Kill Effect[edit]

The changes by the anon were, as far as I could see, correct, due to the fact that most of the traits and effects listed are now of historical nature. What's your reasoning behind the rollback? User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 14:47, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Shit that went through. Tried canceling the page load but failed apparently. Thanks for the catch. -Darqam 14:49, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
Ah, no worries. Tell me 'bout it, I had my fun with the rollback function, too... Embarrassing. Let's forget this. *whistles* User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 14:53, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Proverb say[edit]

Great minds think alike edit wiki at the same time, clearly, because dangit Darqam, two edit conflicts, same pages/same thing, same day. XD - Doodleplex 20:59, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

Yeaaahhhh I always dread editing a wiki page which is currently of interest because I just KNOW that I'll edit conflict someone. But twice in one day... I'm almost impressed. -Darqam 22:38, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

Interwiki stuff[edit]

Hi Darqam, not sure how you're generating those but I stumbled across the bit of the mediawiki api that exposes interwiki links.

-Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 00:42, 10 November 2016 (UTC)

I will have a look at that. The way I had done things up to now was basically export all the items/skills/traits via xml files using Special:export, check each page for interwiki links, if they had none then throw them in a list. Look up that list on the api and write the interwikis to the wiki. Given the uncomfortable amount of manual work that was, using the wiki api like that might be interesting if/when I continue that. -Darqam 03:51, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
OH! I can totally use this to run a check if the interwikis are correct in an (almost) automated way. Thanks this is most likely going to be rather useful (for when I decide to work on it...)-Darqam 04:05, 10 November 2016 (UTC)

Moving, Redirects, and Talk Pages, oh my![edit]

Lollipop quaggan icon.png If you move a page and need to leave a redirect for the page, but not the talk page, un-click the "move the talk page with it". That way you can move the talk page separately later on to avoid leaving a move remnant, as rarely do talk pages need a redirect. (I bet you already knew this so, this is more of a drive by Quaggan dropping icon...event? Yeah!) =) - Doodleplex 19:02, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Yeah that one move was a complete train wreck on my side. I first started to move only the talk page, then canceled, then tried to move the main page and it gave me a formatting error, retried got an error, and then somehow things worked... so yeah... -Darqam 19:07, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Fun games and a barrel of monkeys. - Doodleplex 19:12, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Okay here's one you didn't know, Alex went on a rampage(kinda sorta) and now icons/pictures that have skin in their name should be dropped. So "Nightmare Anelace Skin.png" would be wrong and "Nightmare Anelace.png" would be right. That and you uploaded the same icon twice: File:Nightmare Anelace Skin.png and File:Nightmare Anelace.png - Doodleplex 21:59, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
I was confused why the icon didn't get uploaded, guess it just has an alternate name now... I'll have to edit my site to reflect that, thanks for the heads up. -Darqam 22:11, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Ok, should be fixed on my end now, will resume wiki'ing. -Darqam 23:07, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
I realize I partially forgot about this when making frostforged, sorry. -Darqam 03:16, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Is all good, no worries. =) - Doodleplex 03:19, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

Black Lion Chests[edit]

Those pictures you just uploaded for the Black Lion Chests don't look very Halloween-ish. =x Should we rename/move the file or make new ones you think? - Doodleplex 22:06, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Aww crap, yeah I though that was just something like "Black Lion Chest Preview". I was then hoping to just upload a new image everytime, and we could just revert if an old one came up. Avoids having 20+ files in the future. I'd say we change the name personally. -Darqam 22:11, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Need an icon[edit]

Champion Ice Beast and perhaps others have a green version of File:Red Boss.png over them. I've not found any such icon on the wiki. Think you can help, oh mighty dat diver? Konig (talk) 21:15, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

NEVERMIND. Found File:Green Skull.png.... Why is it neither in the same category nor with the same naming as other boss icons? Konig (talk) 21:19, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello Darq-human. I was wondering if you could perhaps find this image in the dat? More specifically, the 'character', without any additional stuff around it or background, so the character page can finally look decent. I tried searching myself (the resolution isn't very large), but couldn't find it, so maybe you'll have more success. —Ventriloquist 11:54, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

Originals. possible version with heavy crop to remove most of the feet. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 13:17, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
It looks much better on a dark background to be honest - and isn't the original image trying to illustrate part of the character UI too? Couldn't we just take a screenshot with the settings turned up from 2012? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 13:30, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
The current image doesn't have a caption, so I'm not sure what it's supposed to be pointing at. I also wanted to replace it with the transparent image - Character creation guardian.png, not the entire UI. —Ventriloquist 00:19, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

Mini Black Llama icons[edit]

I don't have the actual items, but in the miniature preview window they're using the old Mini Llama icons. [1] Probably a bug seeing as they did make those nice new icons that suit them much better. -Azurem (talk) 18:56, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

Hum... Maybe leave it as is for now. If the problem is recognized again with the item in inventory then yeah it will be correct to swap it out. For now I will (hopefully) attribute it to preview bug *crosses fingers*. -Darqam 18:59, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

Funny Dialogue[edit]

If dialogue looks "funny" then it's more likely than not missing ending dialogue lines, as for some reason people didn't want to get those, not sure why. Just a heads up on the dialogue weirdness. - Doodleplex 22:58, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

I assumed as much, but didn't feel like going back to check. -Darqam 23:03, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
You can add such NPCs to the bottom of my "To Do" page(if they're not there already) if you'd like. - Doodleplex 23:04, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
Just to note, there are quite a few NPCs who do not have a full set of ending dialogue lines. While most will always have an end, not all do. Which has thrown me off a few times. Konig (talk) 01:49, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
Yeah I know, sometimes they will have
Talk more option tango.png
but no
Talk end option tango.png
, and sometimes there are just odd options. I gave up a long time ago on hoping for consistency from anet (that's a lie, I still hope).-Darqam 02:57, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
For more fun, there are some dialogue options that exit the conversation that aren't di|end. I usually mark these when I see them so editors that follow me don't think I'm getting sloppy ;D SarielV 20 x 20px 20:30, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Ogre Maul icons[edit]

Knockback (Ogre Maul) and Spin (Ogre Maul) do not currently have icons. Apparently the files were deleted over a year ago because they were redundant, but I don't know what they were copies of. They look like this. Can you help solve the mystery with your magic icon powers? —Azurem 17:57, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

Huh, I've never seen those images before. I'll find them and upload them. If someone still thinks they are redundant, then they can fix it properly (or link it before I get to uploading them). My guess is the deletion was accidental. -Darqam 17:59, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
Ok, with a bit of help from Ventriloquist got the files updated. What is strange is that the other two 'stick' icons weren't updated as well. The location where I found the two hammer icons has a set of 4 icons which would fit the 4 skills... Ah well. -Darqam 16:53, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
That is strange. Thanks for sorting it out. —Azurem 17:35, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

A render of Season 1: Platinum Guild Challenger Trophy or just whatever the platinum trophy looks like? - Doodleplex 21:06, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

I have absolutely no idea what they look like, no idea at all. So that's going to have to be a "I highly doubt this will ever happen fault of extreme luck". -Darqam 21:38, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
Does "Probably the same thing as gold/silver/bronze but in a different colour" help at all? =x - Doodleplex 21:40, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
It does, I'll take a look. -Darqam 21:47, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
It's between 1335104 and 1335134. I'd grab it but it's going to take me 30min just to index everything again. J.Tesla (talk) 22:37, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
I have it, struggling with blender atm. Model number is 1335137.obj. I will upload a render, but I doubt it will be great, so if you want to throw one up as well that might be a good idea. -Darqam 23:08, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
Ok, so I think I have it right. It is missing all the fancy visual effects (so it looks kind of dull) as I'm not sure how to add them. Two versions, one with Sky blue background, and the other with Transparent background. Pick and choose if you prefer one. Feel free to also move it if you are happy with it (although maybe wait to see what J.Tesla has to offer).-23:17, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
<chanting> Transparent version! Transparent version! Transparent version! </chanting> —Ventriloquist 23:25, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I... I just noticed that it's a JPG, so if you want transparent it needs to be png, so here is an actual transparent image and not just white background. -Darqam 23:32, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

I'm not going to get better render than that. I think that render may be the silver version and not platinum. Comparing the models to the images we have for bronze, silver and gold I think bronze is 1335109, silver is 1335137, gold is 1335117 which leaves 1335130 as the only one left so it must be platinum (it also looks much fancier). J.Tesla (talk) 00:29, 7 January 2017 (UTC)
Just to be safe, I made a quick render of :File:User Darqam 1335117.png, and :File:User Darqam 1335130.png. If we still agree that 1335130 is platinum (which I am more prone to agree than my previous render); then I will make a higher res/quality version. On a similar note, how big should the file be (I can make it virtually any size at this point). -Darqam 00:43, 7 January 2017 (UTC)
Image is now uploaded to the proper page, will mark intermediate images for deletion. Apologies for the file spam Vent.-Darqam 04:43, 7 January 2017 (UTC)

Relevant, how do you get the images, I feel like they are not screenshots. Finding them in the proper .dat folder? If so, where be that? -Darqam 19:25, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Are you referring to Inc's images of Packages? I'm pretty sure she just screenshots the image in the Gem Store, at least that's how I did it one time. —Ventriloquist 19:39, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, the images used for packages (and other gemstore items). I can't seem to find an area on the gemstore with the same backgrounds that I see in the images. But maybe that's just different settings. -Darqam 19:42, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Are you sure you're not a fish? I mean, the fish didn't know before either!
Vent's correct, these are screenshots (I fix the corners though since there's usually a bit of blue or orange there). Doubt the Commerce Team would ever share their assets with us... User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 21:08, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Couldn't hurt to ask though, Stephane's been able to give us quite a few image we've asked for before(banners, logos, etc). (Also fishhhyyyyyyyy!) - Doodleplex 21:19, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Image request...[edit]

Specifically of a map. File:Mad King's Labyrinth map.jpg to be exact. The current image is somehow/forsomereason missing the two little islands with the waypoints on them. Actual in-game screenshots (I do have some) are all foggy so I don't like them and am wondering if you can get a new-and-improved version of that map from the dat. Especially since that version is technically the 2012 version (when only one island existed). Konig (talk) 01:41, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

Maps are surprisingly placed oddly in the dat and I have not figured out the trick to those, so unfortunately I really can't help with this. -Darqam 02:06, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
Well, poop. Konig (talk) 02:37, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
Request, can you check the icon for Gift of Nevermore in the .dat? It feels off to me. (edit) Thank you! - Doodleplex 23:50, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
I uploaded a new version of it, but it's pretty much the exact same. It's also the correct icon according to the API. I can't link it in-game though since I apparently "can't link from this location."... *sigh* -Darqam 00:14, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
I've been getting that message a lot recently...wonder if something broke. - Doodleplex 00:18, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
Nothing broke, they tried to place limitations on what you could ping via chat code to avoid future item pings (I am guessing that's the reason) and instead flagged a bunch of items people could ping off the wiki. It's dumb. -Darqam 00:19, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

ShortBows on your site[edit]

Hey, it looks like your website isn't putting a space between "Short" and "Bow" for items and skins. G R E E N E R 19:28, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

That's how it is in the API iirc. Chuka/Champawatt -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:32, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
Silly me, even as I'm staring at all the API info when I go through these... Sign I should focus on other things, perhaps! G R E E N E R 19:38, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
Yeah that's been an issue from the start, and I could fix with an exception, but the code is getting so bloated with them that I'm kind of getting worried. I'm planning on making a big rework of it at some later point (once I get more other pressing stuff in my life sorted) and then have it possible to manage things easier. Unfortunately I think that means I won't be fixing that right away. Along those lines, the site also doesn't like the new Seraph stats because I did something silly, so if you see those, be aware. -Darqam 20:25, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

Raid NPC Shenanigans[edit]

So while I was super busy being a dead asura on the floor a week ago, I noticed this thing. According to his page, it's supposedly an attack by Matthias Gabrel, and last I checked, attacks don't usually have health/and or defiance bars and grey spots for NPC icons. I'm assuming it's actually an elemental summoned by Matthias, but as raids are a special ball of shenanigans sometimes, I'm hoping you can either confirm my assumption or if not, make sense of...whatever this? - Doodleplex 00:40, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

So with Raids, the devs needed to do something extra from regular 1 attack = 1 effect. Let's look at this in 2 ways. One from combat perspective, one from game engine.
 1. Icy patches are created passively by Matthias while he is frost attuned. These Icy patches have a 'mind of their own' and will knockdown player standing on them of their own volition.
 2. There is no way (I think) to make Mathias summon those icy patches constantly without interrupting his attack/movement patterns (he would need to stop whatever he is doing to summon one every time). As such the dev coded in some "npcs" which would semi-randomly spawn during this phase only with only one attack which knocks down on proximity.
If you want to define things from an engine/game perspective, these need to be labeled as NPCs (same goes for Deimos "flak" attacks btw). If you want to define things as a player would "experience" them, then they are simply an effect of an attack.
Now the ice patch is also unique in that it will stay forever until it is destroyed, whereas most other similar "attacks" simply time out. The icy patches have been left as attacks since calling them NPCs would lead to more confusion to the players reading it (at least that's what I think). It may not be "technically" correct, but it's how I think things are best represented. -Darqam 01:20, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
Wait does it show up as "Ice Patch" in the combat log or "Icy Patch"? - Doodleplex 01:28, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
Eh, it's probably Icy Patch, I mix the two words together in this case. One bad thing about raids is you call attacks what you want irrelevant of what they are actually called sometimes. -Darqam 01:32, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
Okay, so if I understand correctly, it's probably an elemental summoned by a passive effect, but to avoid confusion it's called an attack so players don't get confused. Works for me, I just wanted to be sure before I deleted the picture of it without the UI in case an npc page was needed. - Doodleplex 01:37, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
That's pretty much it, yeah. -Darqam 02:04, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

Don't worry about the exotic Seraph stuff[edit]

We can just throw them on to the Pearl weapons or appropriate armour pages, like so. G R E E N E R 20:25, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

I was just writing on your talk page actually, so I'll just copy-paste what I had.
Soooo yeah... I forgot we did things like that... hum... I'll see about fixing all of those links when I get the time (which considering I'll be gone for half a week as of Wednesday might be in a while). *Sigh*. -Darqam 20:27, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
It was something I remembered a few days ago as well, and then promptly forgot to both do and remind others of. Your site makes grabbing both the item ID and the recipe ID so much easier than my old method, so I should be able to get through them perhaps on Thursday.
Addendum: At least we know that Anet's consistently inconsistent. G R E E N E R 20:37, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, ascended armor sets I've stopped expecting consistent names, and weapons... ha, that was never even an option. -Darqam 21:14, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

Oh Raid Guru...[edit] there some reason Glenna's dialogue(not the event stuff, the "can I buy shinies and hear lore" stuff) is on on the main raid wing for Bastion of the Not-Doodle-Friendly when it's already on Glenna's page? Just curious. - Doodleplex 00:40, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Because in the new raid wings when you ask a question to Glenna she answers in open chat (spoken lines); but this is only visible to the one asking it. So I wasn't too sure what to do with it therefor stuck it there. It could very easily be argued to be on the Glenna pages, the formatting just threw me off so it went where it is now. -Darqam 00:55, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
I feel it should probably be removed, as all other interaction dialogues(such as from objects) aren't listed on the page, but on their respective object pages. Not to mention Glenna's interaction dialogue has never been included on the raid wings before, nor is Squad Leader Bennett's dialogue from Salvation Pass on the wing page and it's done in a similar way. Partially unrelated, I didn't know it only showed up to the player talking to her, maybe that should be notated on her page? - Doodleplex 01:25, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
I'm alright if you move it around. As for making a note, this has been around since the LS1 recap npc so I don't know that I'd make a note for it, it's becoming more and more present. -Darqam 04:07, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
Typically, story/dungeon/event specific dialogue goes on the story/dungeon/event page not the NPC page. Regardless of being in open chat or otherwise. So, technically, all of Glenna's dialogue should go on the raid pages... Same with all other objects and NPCs. Konig (talk) 20:37, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
Then again, raider wiki'ers seem to hate using the same standards as the rest of the wiki (case in point) so I say: fuck it. Konig (talk) 20:40, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Salut Darqam,

Do you still have a problem to delete pages with your pywikibot?

-Darqam 19:48, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
I can make out 'Ventriloquist' and 'vengeance', and I am happy with that. —Ventriloquist 20:18, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
All good things, I swear. -Darqam 20:23, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
My limited French says it's "In the end it's not needed. The bot only lets me do limited things, but Vent(an admin) is very good at deleting things with a vengence. Thank you for the offer!" - Doodleplex 21:17, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Quarterstaff etymology[edit]

Per your request: "wonder why a staff is called a quarterstaff, it's not 1/4 of a staff, it's a full staff...)"

The British have been in love with quarterstaves for hundreds of years. They are used to cram owners and guests alike into the traditionally tiny English households. Quartering people became like queuing over there, and quarterstaves became both necessary and ubiquitous in order for British daily life to continue. (Note that being "shot, drawn, and quartered" involved the reckless use of cannons and ropes, a craze that thankfully died out).

Not all people on the Isles liked living in such crammed conditions, and so they sought refuge in the Americas. Carrying a quarterstaff in the New World became a faux pas, but this was something the British never understood as can bee seen when they came to visit in 1774. G R E E N E R 20:14, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

So basically you're telling me any weapon that is called a quarterstaff is not actually a staff (i.e magical weapon of sorts), but in fact a regular pole of a certain length. If that's the case... then how the hell are our classes using them as staves. I DEMAND ANSWERS!!!! -Darqam 22:30, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
Correct. The length of the pole was a reflection of how many people you could fit into a room before they would squeeze out around you. Staffing a business also came from this idea, where the "size of your staff" took on a dual meaning (and in the modern day we use it to just refer to the head-count). Finally, as to "how the hell are our classes using them as staves", I don't recall any connection between quarterstaves and schools, sorry. G R E E N E R 23:19, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
By classes I meant GW2 classes... but today I learned quite a bit about the history of some english words. Interesting stuff. -Darqam 04:36, 4 March 2017 (UTC)
Well schools usually have a headmaster, who's in charge of all the other masters - including the quartermaster who makes sure the right people get quarterstaves. I never really understood why headmasters live in schools but GW2 also has headmasters and quartermasters. —Azurem 19:04, 4 March 2017 (UTC)
Wonderful example, thanks Azurem! You can see how the unrefined quarterstaff which Quartermaster Thraeingr sells can only push people around a few times before it breaks. Anet allows artificers to shape planks into proper quarterstaves so that characters like revenants can push to their heart's content.
I still cannot figure out the lore behind gw2 use of headmasters, though, as few kids in the game go to school. Perhaps we should ask Stephane, or get Konig involved. G R E E N E R 19:29, 4 March 2017 (UTC)
They go to school. The schools are just hidden from prying eyes, Hogwarts style. Konig (talk) 19:41, 4 March 2017 (UTC)

SAB skins and stuff[edit]

...they get (skin) for the skin page in their name. Ie "Crimson Assassin Shield (skin)" - Doodleplex 18:51, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

Welp, just commented in a page. I was just linking from previous red links. Guess some deletion/moving is in order. Also, why? There is no page without the (skin), so why force the extra descriptive? -Darqam 18:52, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
Why I couldn't tell you, but I can tell you out of the 4,446 pages that have "Template:Skin infobox" 3,180 of them have "(skin)" in the page name so I'm guessing that's just how the wiki does it. - Doodleplex 18:55, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
So then we might want to address the fact that (All?) blacklion weapons use the `no (skin)` standard. I've been basing myself off that since it's what I most commonly see, but if that's not how we want things... then that should probably also be changed. -Darqam 18:57, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
Yeah those should probably be fixed to have (skin) in it. - Doodleplex 19:04, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) edit: Also, if we are not making use of the base name at all, we might want to make redirects on all those pages, since I imagine most people will wiki, for example "Crimson Assassin Sword" instead of the 2 page names we have now. If there's no opposition to that, I'll do it when I get back home later today(if someone hasn't done it already). If we do change all the BL weapons, this will need to be done to them as well. -Darqam 19:07, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
I'll also just state, that I find this idea kind of strange, since for the most part the wiki seems to try to match things in-game as closely as possible even with spelling. So when the page names are not taken by the items, I personally see absolutely no reason to append "(skin)" to the names since it is an unnecessary mismatch from in-game. -Darqam 19:08, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
I'm not sure why you think that, Doodle. When we first started documenting skin pages, we decided that we'd use '(skin)' for articles that match the item names i.e. if the skin's name is different from the item name, we wouldn't have the skin qualifier. Articles that have the qualifier but don't match the item name are examples of bad practice. —Ventriloquist 19:19, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
I must have missed those discussions. Weapon skin articles were my first serious contributions here and like your average noob I just went in and started hammering on them XD I like the idea of having (skin) designator on each of them - it keeps the articles consistent and inevitably there is a weapon version of the skin consumable lurking in the database, usually unseen. We saw this recently with the 2012 Halloween skins turned into weapons and produced by the Mystic Forge. SarielV 20 x 20px 19:41, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I'm not sure what I'm not supposed to be thinking about, but if I understand correctly about the second thing, pages have (skin) if the skin and the item page are the same, but if they have (skin) and the item doesn't that's bad? If that's the case then I think that all of the SAB weapon skin pages (excluding the Kaiser weapons) are incorrect. Also Darqam, if you want a nice long read, I think I found the history of (skin): User_talk:Chieftain_Alex/Archive_8#potato_skins and Guild Wars 2 Wiki talk:Community portal/Archive 10#Documenting skins - in their own namespace. - Doodleplex 19:29, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

Yes, precisely. Mostly because of the reason Darq pointed out above - they should match the in-game name, and when they don't - we use the qualifier. There is no reason to force players to search twice if we have an available namespace for the skin. —Ventriloquist 19:38, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
Well I'm glad this happened because I think I need to learn the why before going "well that's just how we do it" sometimes heh. Question though, should this stuff about the skins be put somewhere so the same mistake doesn't happen again? Maybe on the Help:Editing page or something? - Doodleplex 19:50, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
I think we're clear on this now, but the convention we've gone with is to add "_(skin)" only if there was already an item with the same name. If an item with the same name doesn't exist ingame, we're doing it as shown ingame.
On a slightly related note, I've been looking into reducing our dependency on templates using the DPL extension: each item page linking to a skin page currently checks for the existance of "PAGENAME (skin)". If we could use the same qualifier, e.g. "_(skin)", or prefix, e.g. "Skin:_" it would simplify the work the template is doing in the background. (I would still advocate the creation of a "Skin" namespace, and the search settings could be set to include the Skin namespace by default.) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:54, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
Don't you think 'Skin:' might be too much of a drastic change two and a half years later? —Ventriloquist 20:10, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
It would only be moving 4500 pages with a bot and changing one line of code on the armor/back/weapon infoboxes. Surprisingly little would have to change really. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:27, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
I meant that more in the sense of the wiki readers adjusting to it. But I am up for it, seems like a worthwhile change. —Ventriloquist 21:11, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
Ok, so I am back from a little trip and I see this kind of blew up... So just to be consistent, I will finish the crimson assassin weapon pages without the (skin) at the end, and the move the previous pages (of that weapon collection) to that notation. I have to bot edit in that they belong to a collection anyway, so it's not much more work there regardless. I'll however refrain from touching any other pages outside this collection until the details have been ironed out. -Darqam 21:30, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

If you can't find an NPC...[edit]

...and there's a link to the German wiki for the NPC, check to see if they have said NPC marked as historical or not, as they're usually pretty good on notating NPC's statuses. This is what I do more often then not if I can't find somebody and it's saved me a good chunk of time so far, so I thought I'd pass this bit of info onto you and the NPC coords project. - Doodleplex 18:54, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

I'll keep that in mind, thanks. -Darqam 18:56, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Template:Refined armor nav and Template:Experimental armor nav[edit]

I was editing some of the Refined Envoy armor and got confused why on the main page the armor nav states ... Legs ... and on each of the armorpieces ...Leggings... Then I found out there are two of these, the first one created was Template:Refined Envoy armor nav and then the second one Template:Refined armor nav, similar, when I digged a little bit into it, also Template:Experimental Envoy armor nav and Template:Experimental armor nav. So since you created one of them I have a couple of questions:

 • So due to conistency shouldn't we just use one?
 • All other armor navs use Legs instead Leggings, again consistency?

And one last remark: I just found out, while browsing, there's a category called Armor navigation templates, easy to look up already created navs. -Tolkyria 17:19, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

If something on my template is wrong, odds are it's my screw-up. I assumed consistency between tiers (lol). So yeah if there is an issue feel free to correct it. Also... why did someone make a template with no use... I'm aware that category exists, but this must be the first time I've seen someone make a template and not use it... so I guess my bad slightly on that one. -Darqam 17:33, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
I've redirected the two templates without "Envoy" in the title to point at the two with "Envoy". We use the armor weight without "armor", and "legs" over "leggings". All that remains is to bot edit the pages using the redirected templates. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:36, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
That was a fast fix, thanks. -Tolkyria 18:04, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

Icon uploads[edit]

How exactly do you upload all these icons? (if its a script, do I have it, and how do you run it?) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:37, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

I use your multi-upload command from User:AWB Alex/Pywikibot. Pretty much all it is. -Darqam 20:02, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
There's got to be a better way. If I can figure out how to use mw:API:Upload, I'd love to have a way of just selecting multiple files in a folder to upload, selecting them and press go. (Currently I don't understand what happens between selecting files with the popup window (which seems to only give string filenames?), and uploading the images as data) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:42, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
at least I have the multiple files bit handled. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:44, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
Can you let me know if you get a blank page on Widget:Editing robot or not? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:59, 9 May 2017 (UTC) is what I see, so no blank screen. -Darqam 19:01, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
Hurray, the upload tool is live then. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:04, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

Broken Chat Links[edit]

So...I may have solved the mystery of why some chat links for items don't work at all: it seems they do work, but only if you have the item in your inventory. A guildmate was trying to ping Tequatl's Hoard, but it wasn't working for him. So I checked to see if the one I have(since I still don't know which weapon I want) worked. It did, and I could use the chat icon. However, I then switched to another toon and tried the same chat link again and this time it didn't work. Transferred the hoard to that toon and all of a sudden the chat link worked again. I'd wager a guess the case is the same for most of the other items that don't show up in mapchat. - Doodleplex 07:25, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

That does seem do be one of the reason, I think I had heard of that before, but hadn't confirmed it, so thanks. The issue though is sometimes ping will work for some items that aren't even out yet. Those items are essentially the only ones that *should* be blocked but many of them still actually get through. Basically the entirety of the chat link censoring is a complete and total mess and I have now just assumed it will randomly censor things when you actually want/need to ping something. I don't know how the hell they thought this would work nor why they don't bother fixing it, but it's dumb and I hate it. -Darqam 13:43, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
The reason for the "broken" links is string encryption. If the items name is an encrypted string that your client doesn't have the decryption key for then you will get the "cant link here," but if you do have the key (i.e. because the item is in your inventory) it will work as a normal link, which is what was happening above with Tequatl's Hoard. It seems to be fairly random which items get it which is why you can see some items they aren't "out" yet. I agree it's ineffective since it breaks valid items and because it can be fairly easily circumvented with a little memory editing. MadMaxx (talk) 15:12, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

Just had one of those moments.[edit]

You know, I've been creating new pages for years. Years. Often is mass batches, and I just realized now why you put a "." in the summary. To all you RC watchers, my apologies. G R E E N E R 03:34, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

Haha, yeah I realized a while back that if I had nothing pertinent to say when creating a new page (which is often the case), then a dot as a summary made the RC much easier to read for others. I feel like I remember someone telling me at some points that edit summaries should always be useful or left blank. I do agree with that for edits, but batch creation of pages, nah. -Darqam 03:42, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

Lacerating Slash[edit]

Hey, I was wondering if you can help me out. From what I can gather, the 02-22-2017 update split Lacerating Slash into two identical versions (one for eagle, one for hawk) (one ID 12722 / [&BrIxAAA=], one ID 20975 / [&Bu9RAAA=]). The problem is, I can't figure out which pet uses which skill because we can't ping Ranger pet skills from in-game. Do you know of any way to tell them apart? Thanks in advance! --Imry (talk) 06:38, 23 June 2017 (UTC)

Heya, so if we take a look at the api for pets and list all of them at once:, we can do a ctrl+f to find skill 12722, which says it belongs to the eagle. The skill 20975is listed under Hawk. Hope this helps! -Darqam 13:53, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
That's EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thanks <3 --Imry (talk) 08:07, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

GW2W Easy Mode[edit]

This looks so useful! Great job! --Rain Spell (talk)

Heya, I'm glad you like the idea of it, quite a bit of work got thrown into it. That being said there will probably always be bugs/issues/inconsistencies which I would really like to hear about. So if you do find anything funny looking; or even if you have an idea you'd like to see added, don't hesitate to ask, I'd like to make that project as complete as realistically possible. -Darqam 20:46, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

Ascended Breathers[edit]

Hi! I'm looking at pages like Maklain's Leather Breather and Yassith's Leather Breather which haven't been released yet. IIRC you said that you put these pages together when ascended breathers were just released - you didn't know for sure that they existed; you just expected that they did exist (or at least would exist sometime "soon"). With the introduction of the Wegloop breathers I don't think that the generic versions will ever be released. Should we delete them all? I figured I should ask you first before asking on the Community page. --Imry (talk) 02:43, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

Yeah if by now they aren't out, I highly doubt they ever will; at the very least not in that format. Feel free to ask but I'm pretty sure you can just straight up mark for deletion. The only reason the pages exist is because I assumed the item would, there was never any actual in-game hint or anything. -Darqam 04:00, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
Oh, I'm probably the reason those showed up on the edit list. The recipe page was an orphan and I linked them. I think it's ok to keep them for awhile longer yet. Anet took 4 years to come out with ascended aquabreathers, and people looking for an aqua-breather with that stat set will at least see that it hasn't been implemented into the game yet. (Instead of thinking they just can't find the right page)--Rain Spell (talk)
Thanks Darq! Rain Spell, I guess I'll see you on the Community page. --Imry (talk) 05:57, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
I'd suggest redirecting generic-named non-existent ascended aquabreathers to a page akin to Ascended armor (there doesn't seem to be an article detailing the available aquabreathers yet, so such should go either on Ascended armor or Ascended trinket), for those who would search for them, and have the article note that not all prefixes can be crafted but are available from Bitterfrost Frontier. Phoenix Finisher[edit]

Hello Darq-human, mind finding the icon for Phoenix Finisher? I deleted my massive icons folder awhile ago, and can't really reextract all of it atm, so I was wondering if you could? It's a 64x64 file, similar to File:Shark Finisher.png, and should be around the icons released at launch, so look for a low #. Thanks thanks! —Ventriloquist 10:45, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Not Darq-human, but I found your icon and uploaded it. These consumable finisher id's are grouped together like this, so my assumption of the phoenix finisher being 21316 is correct. Also, "619695.png" for the shark finisher is the same id as found within the gw2 dat. Maybe this information helps someone. —Nefastu 11:40, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
Neat, thanks, Nefastu-human! —Ventriloquist 13:02, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Here's an Idea... why not use your website as a blog of gw2 as well? I think it would be interesting from a player's view of their gameplay, etc. The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk).

I'm not really the blogger type, so not really an option I entertain. I'm sure there must be some blogs out there already though if you really want to find one. -Darqam 13:31, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
Story style? Alina (talk) 21:39, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
Not too sure what you mean, but the only purpose of the website is to make wiki editing easier, nothing more. I have no interest in blogging or writing stories about gw2. -Darqam 22:28, 26 August 2017 (UTC)

...gear/wear icons[edit]

Honestly, they way I remember categorizing these is that all armor piece categories end in "...wear", not "gear" - so you have headwear, shoulderwear, etc. Is it silly? yes. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ventriloquist (talkcontribs) at 16:34, 31 August 2017 (UTC).

Fair enough, still feel like we should be able to create category aliases though (not really) due to silliness). -Darqam 21:04, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
With the amount of icon categories we have, I'm surprised there isn't some workaround. —Ventriloquist 22:08, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
when I was exploring the gemstore the other day I was reminded that I chose some weird category names when I set them up. If you guys can think of decent names I'll move them with a bot. (Chieftain Alex mobile) - 22:46, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
