"Cannot link from this location"[edit]

Hello Stephane,

So for the past while, there has been quite a few issues where valid chat codes grabbed from the wiki no longer work since the game returns "Cannot link from this location". Items like Gift of Nevermore and reportedly Eir's Legacy Longbow(see talk page). Is there any way this could be addressed? As it stands it's no longer possible to trust that chat codes offered on the wiki which is an annoying thing.

I believe that this system was first put into place to prevent non-implemented items from being linked but as it is it seems to be catching too many items. -Darqam 15:10, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

The newer gem store stuff like the Eir's Legacy Longbow, Lord Caudecus's Pistol Skin, Ice Encasement Outfit... Not only do the chat links not work, you can't preview them from the wardrobe either - they're not in there. —Azurem 22:04, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

Official On Wiki of Gold[edit]

I think its cool that ArenaNet is now supporting the project. Who will choose the articles to improve, and will there be a way to make suggestions? SarielV 20 x 20px 19:24, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

I agree, I think it's awesome! I just have one question, are players still allowed to donate gold towards the project if they would like to do so or no? - Doodleplex 19:31, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
Answer 1: nothing changes, Dashface is still in charge. Asnwer 2: we agreed on stopping that since there's a legal background behind this project. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 19:35, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
Alright good to know, thank you. - Doodleplex 19:52, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Thinking of a worst case scenario: I'm glad that Dashface is maintaining control, but given that this is on the wiki and issues may arise, could you confirm that regular admins can step in even if they're not explicitly named as "designees" under the Contribution Review section? For example: An edit war starts; an admin steps in and removes someone's contribution using wiki admin discretion; the admin has now become a de facto designee. G R E E N E R 21:02, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

If a contribution is removed, what's important to me is that it was made in good faith and satifies the basic contribution terms (specifically that it was accurate and relevant to the article). I can imagine a scenario where a contributor made a valid contribution that was ultimately removed from the article, though that would be very rare. Is this what you mean? An article being part of a Set in no way changes how admins would handle edit wars or other undesirable behaviour on the article. -- Dashface User Dashface.png 21:16, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
Thank you Dashface, that is enough clarification to satisfy me. G R E E N E R 21:33, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
To add to my Dashface said: technically we can name new designees however we want but we want to respect the spirit of the wiki, as it's been done before, so probably via a consensus (unless there's an emergency). These are all very good questions and I know that Dashface already gave some thoughts to some of them, but I also wanted to give us a few weeks to see how things go and also make sure that everybody is generally happy with this ArenaNet-supported project. All questions and feedback are welcome! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 18:10, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Flashpoint banner image.[edit]

Hello again!

I'm here to bother you once more about getting a banner image, I managed to pull File:Flashpoint Banner.jpg from the website when the release was announced, but it is missing the text. Would it be possible to upload over it with a version of the banner with text? -Darqam 14:28, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

Sorry for forgetting, here you go: File:Flashpoint banner.jpg Thank you! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 15:33, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
Thanks again! -Darqam 15:43, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

Hi, we want to make a Chinese-language wiki[edit]

Hi, Stephane

We have player GW2 for years, and CN sever had run more than 3 years since 05/01/2017. But, still we didnt get a database like wiki in Chinese vision. So, can we get some officely help? We have connected with KONGZHONG , but they dont want to do this. What we want to do is translate the EN vision to CN vision, but need a wiki page with tech support. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jackil1987 (talkcontribs).

Hi! When it comes to publishing Guild Wars 2 in China, you should talk to our partner Kong Zhong. They are much better suited to handling the chinese community than we are :) --Stephane Lo Presti talk 15:53, 22 June 2017 (UTC)
Stephane, Jackil1987 already mentioned that they had contacted KongZhong, who refused. I myself am not a member of the CN community, nor do I speak Chinese, but this isn't the first time I've come across Chinese players making an effort to get an official wiki hosted by ArenaNet, so it seems reasonable to suppose that they've reached out to KongZhong at least as often. My understanding is that there isn't much communication between ANet and KZ, so I can see why ANet's usual response to this request is typically "go ask KongZhong" -- but now that it's become quite clear that KongZhong aren't interested in hosting an official wiki for the CN community, surely you could reconsider? Or at least explain why it wouldn't be possible, if there's some deeper reason why ANet keeps refusing? --Idris (talk) 16:32, 22 June 2017 (UTC)
Thx Idris and Stephane.I'm not surprised to get such an answer. I tried many times, write mails to Anet, phoned KONGZHONG, and get refushed.Yup, thx anyway.

I'm probably being dumb here...[edit]

But every time you protect a page, you're making yourself a sysop to do so... wouldn't it be easier to ask Justin to add the "editprotected" user group right to "ArenaNetLiaison"? I don't think anyone would object. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:51, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

Nope you're not dumb :p I wanted to do something like this before, but haven't been able to get down to it, as part of restructuring the ArenaNet group permissions. I'm planning to do it by the end of this year. Let me know if the way I handle this is an issue in any way (processes, concerns about abuse, etc.), I can totally stop doing this if it's annoying or not appropriate. Thank you Alex! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 22:17, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

More splash-art/banner requests[edit]

👋 Stephane,

So I'm not sure how much of this is ok to share for the wiki yet, but I'll just throw my requests and hope they get filled. Is there available splash art for each new specialization? Maybe something along the lines of File:Spec image Tempest.jpg (or anything really)? I've seen a few images float around but I can't seem to pin down clean versions of them. I see them present on the official webpage, but they are rather painful to extract from there. -Darqam 15:47, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

Hey Darqam, yes I have them and will check with our team about their release, then I'll hopefully be able to upload them :) --Stephane Lo Presti talk 15:58, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
Here we go:
And bonus:
Let me know if these work for you and if you need anything else! Thank you for your work :) --Stephane Lo Presti talk 17:41, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
Hey Stephane, do these images have "alternative" versions? For example, the difference between this image and [[:File:Firebrand.jpg|this image]] for the Firebrand. In the version you uploaded, the left side abruptly ends, whereas the other image has a smooth(er) transition that looks better when placed on articles. —Ventriloquist 20:03, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
Hey Ventriloquist, I only have access to the version I gave you (which is the one on our Path of Fire website). Where does the other one come from? --Stephane Lo Presti talk 16:22, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
While I cannot speak for the uploader, it seems to come from the official website - the background image used for the Firebrand spec. —Ventriloquist 17:20, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for all the images Stephane, those are really great art pieces and I'm glad to see them all on the wiki. <3 -Darqam 16:49, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
Very happy to! I'm going to see if I can upload some more visual assets on this wiki. Let me know if there's a place where I should share them. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 16:53, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
The new images are awesome! They look ideal for making our new background, though we certainly wouldn't say no if you have more you'd like to share. I recommend posting them on the Community Portal. :) --Idris (talk) 17:07, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
Glad to be of help. I'll just heads there to share a few more pictures :) --Stephane Lo Presti talk 17:17, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

Game credits[edit]

Hello Stephane,
Our page about the game credits is kinda old. I noticed you made an edit there and then reverted back to the 2013 version, and later added a new page archived with the credits at 2015. Would it be accurate to link to the 2015 version from the Path of Fire article as the team that worked on the expansion? Would you oppose if we listed the 2015 version at the main game credits article, instead of displaying the 2013 version, and archived the older version? To be honest, I kinda miss the credits roll we had when we finished a game, I'm always curious to know who worked on what. Erasculio 22:56, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi, the edit I made was a version that is not final, but my revert went too far so it's fine if you'd like to use the archive for the Heart of Thorns Game Credits. You'll have to wait a bit for the Path of Fire Game Credits, I'll update them whenever I can. Thanks --Stephane Lo Presti talk 00:20, 22 November 2017 (UTC)
Great. Thanks! Erasculio 01:20, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

Stephane, I pulled down the File:Daybreak release banner.jpg from the website after the release, but it doesn't have the text. Is it possible to get a version of the banner with the Daybreak text like before? We also don't have one for the File:One Path Ends Release banner.jpg, but that was a while ago. If we can get for one or both of these, that'd be very appreciated. Thanks! Vahkris (talk) 22:06, 29 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi Vahkris, I'll request that and should have it tomorrow. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 00:04, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

Here we go: File:2017-11_LWS4_Ep1_WikiBanner.jpg Thanks! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 19:25, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

Great, thanks! Vahkris (talk) 19:42, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
Any chance we can get one retroactively for One Path Ends? Vahkris (talk) 17:36, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
I'll get it to you on Friday! (and if everything works out, in the future I should be able to get them to you faster) --Stephane Lo Presti talk 02:11, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

Sorry Vahkris, the person I was going to work with to create this picture is out of the office today, so my next opportunity to create it will be when I'm back at the office on the first week of January. I'll try my best to get it to you then! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 18:38, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

No worries, it's for an older release so there's no urgency on it. Just didn't want to let it be forgotten. Vahkris (talk) 15:03, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Here we go: File:2017-11_LWS3_Ep6_WikiBanner.jpg Let me know if you need anything else! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 19:15, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

You guys can't release a banner image that cool without me asking for one with the title for the wiki. We grabbed the one on the website that doesn't have the title, but here's my request for one with the title as before. Is it possible to get one? Vahkris (talk) 14:45, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

Hey Vahkris, sorry for the delay. Here you go, even cooler for the wikis: File:2018-02_LWS4_Ep2_HomeBanner.jpg --Stephane Lo Presti talk 19:06, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
Great, thanks! Vahkris (talk) 20:18, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

Guild Wars 1 Wiki[edit]

Hi Stephane, I just wanted to leave a short message and let you know that the security certificate(?) for the GW1 Wiki has expired. It would be great if you or someone on the GW2 team could look into this and get a fix out. Thanks! --LunarRXA (talk) 14:32, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

It shows valid through Oct 1 2019 for me, so I guess they already handled it. - Felix Omni 15:23, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

Yet another Guild Wars 1 Wiki thing[edit]

Hi Stephane, just a note in case the GW1 request isn't obvious enough, but I've just raised a request for technical administration on the GW1 wiki - gw1:Guild Wars Wiki:Requests for technical administration/Restrict editing of Guild and Guild talk namespaces. There are two lines of text that we require adding to the "LocalSettings.php" file. If you can get whoever our lovely wiki tech person is to update the wiki that'd be really appreciated. Thanks. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 23:54, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

Just so everybody knows: I've passed this request to our engineer, askimg him if it'd be possible to roll it out fairly quickly. Thanks! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 16:26, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
Apparently these lines are already in the LocalSettings.php file! Do we have evidence that they're not working? --Stephane Lo Presti talk 16:29, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
Update 2: I'll update directly on the GW1W talk page --Stephane Lo Presti talk 16:54, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
