Veil Weavers are illusionists who create effects from wearing their illusions upon themselves, creating various effects by overloading the sensory input in the mind of their enemies that look at them. A Mesmer can activate their Veils after a short channel that continuously pulses its effects into their location environment to any enemies or even allies viewing the mesmer. Additional illusory energy can be channeled to increase the effectiveness of the Veil's effects for a short period in exchange for putting the veil on a cooldown. Thematically Veil Weavers position themselves on the battlefield as an offensive beacon, furthering their area control with marks that gain effectiveness based boons and conditions.

Some say they gain powers from from peering through the veil and into the Mists, utilizing what they learned from its untold horrors against their foes. Others believe that Veil Weavers magics were developed through the whims of a particularly eccentric practitioner of the mesmeric arts. Whatever the source, Veil Weavers uphold their mystery with inspiring grace while inspiring madness.

Profession mechanic[edit]

Unlike shatters which are activated instantly, Veils are activated after charging for a short period upon selection. Veil activation is a completely passive effect and cannot be interrupted, as mesmeric magics begin descending upon the Mesmer like an aurora concentrating upon a central point. Once in an active state Veils can be infused with illusion energy through shattering all available illusions through a secondary activation. Veils effects have an effective radius of 600 units around the Mesmer, only one can be active at any time, and do not go on cooldown until after they are empowered by shattering illusions.

F2: Veil of Madness 1 15 Continuously inflict Confusion (5s) to enemies looking at your location every 5 seconds. Shatter Effect: Inflict stacks of Confusion and Torment to enemies looking at your location - stacks scales with number of shattered illusions.
F3: Veil of Dissonance 1 35 Continuously inflict Weakness (2s) to enemies looking at your location every 5 seconds. Shatter Effect: Inflict a 1/4 second Daze upon enemies looking at your location every 1/2 second - total duration scales with number of shattered illusions.
F4: Veil of Celerity 1 50 Continuously generate Swiftness for yourself and allies looking at your location. Shatter Effect: Remove all movement impairing conditions and gain Distortion - total duration scales with number of shattered illusions.

Weapon skills[edit]

Veil Weavers utilizes dual daggers as two handed weapons and cannot equip only a single dagger. Skills will not be available for use unless two daggers are equipped. Skills operate at 600 range.

4 Insanity Pulse 3/4 20 Send forth 3 forward moving orbs that Taunts (1s) enemies.
5 Phantasmal Chainer 1 25 Spin your daggers around you inflicting Torment (8s) and tethering enemies. Summon an illusion that attacks and cripples your enemies.
5 Redirect Arrow.png Creeping Madness 1 5 Send a pulse towards your enemies through your tether. If the pulse reaches them deal damage and inflict Confusion (8s).

Slot skills[edit]

Mark utility skills allow the Veil Weaver to control boons and conditions on themselves and enemies respectively. Each Mark grows in utility upon fulfilling conditions specified by the Mark creating additional effects.

Mark of Disenchantment 1 35 Inscribe a mark that damages and removes boons from foes. Inflicts Weakness (4s) and extends the duration of all conditions on foes if they have 2 or more conditions.

Design Notes[edit]

Akin to how Reapers were inspired by slow unstoppable killers from horror movies, Veil Weavers were inspired by the progression of losing sanity upon seeing something horrific. Veil Weaver abilities continuously puts condition pressure on their foes and spreads Weakness reducing the damage of attacks made against them. Their Due to their ease of access to continuous Weakness, Veil Weavers have few defensive options or abilities that increase defensive effectiveness other than conditions. Strictly power based builds should also be an option for the Veil Weaver. Originally designed to actually merge and utilize illusions as temporary shields the design for the Veil Weaver has gone through several iterations. At one point Veils were ground targeted effects a kin to "Temporal Curtain" which was reworked as it that with marks too much visual effects would be going on at the same time from one specialization. Before the current iteration Veil Weavers had more design elements that focused on Boons application but it felt too forced, and didn't bring that much to already existing options. Following that idea the thought of a more Condition Based focus began to manifest so to give the Mesmer another more active option to Scepter or Staff Clone spam. Admittedly, Veil Weavers tread the line between and Mesmer and Necromancer very precariously, and in the end it may only be the theme and purple butterfly-ish effects that separates them.
