"There's no such thing as immortality in this world."

Hod Deathrender is a norn necromancer and a member of Durmand Priory. He is more well known as Hod Frostcleaver, a famous warrior and a former member of the wolfborn, but due reasons unknown he has chosen another path.

Background[edit]

When I was still a cub, I had a vision. A Spirit of the Wild spoke to me and offered its guardianship. That spirit was Raven. Clever and wise, he guides us with truths that others fear and bestows a far-seeing clarity of mind. In my visions he spoke of riddles and opened my eyes to secrets that few others can see.

Little is known about Hod's early life. He became famous in the Shiverpeak Mountains in young age for his determination to breaking Fang of the Serpent, the tooth of Elder Dragon Jormag placed in Hoelbrak, although he was no more succesful than any other norn who had tried their might against the dragon's. Hod kept trying to damage the fang, offering an apprenticeship to many known smiths to learn how to craft better weapons to test against the fang, until no smith would no longer take him near their forge for breaking more weapons in a year than an average warrior could succeed to destroy in a lifetime. At some point Hod met Eadwyn Fjordrunner, and they were wed several years after, shortly before birth of their daughter, Eadgyth. The patron Spirit of the Wild of their family is the Raven Spirit.

A few years after, Hod left raising of their daughter to Eadwyn as he led several warriors to fight against the invading icebrood hordes from the north, and was severely injured when fighting the Dragonspawn, champion of Jormag. Although many a norn fell to Dragonspawn's spell, Hod was more lucky in that he was able to leap on the beast from behind, it being unaware of his presence while engaging other norn. Still, he did not succeed in killing the Dragonspawn; in attempting to strike the monster in the back with an axe, his blow only passed through the champion's intangible form, but not without damaging it. It knocked Hod backwards with a gale, and he fell through a weakened patch of ice into a lake, with his axe frozen onto his arm. He was later found downriver by children, and miraculously enough, survived despite lying in coma for several weeks with the corrupted, frozen axe sapping his strength in further while unconscious. He became known as Frostcleaver for being the only norn who had fought the Dragonspawn and lived to tell the tale.

Many years later Hod was hunting a great wurm called Nidsormr to capture and bring forth alive to provide an objective for the coming year's Great Hunt. He was also being followed by Eadwyn and their daughter. Their quest ended disasterously, however; though they were able to find and lure the wurm to the sufrace, it swallowed Eadwyn alive, who later died of the wurm's corrosive bile after Eadgyth had wounded it and Hod finished the serpent off while it was burrowing back underground. Hod was only able to retrieve her wife's ring which he later gave to Eadgyth a year later when both had recovered, after which they never saw each other as a family again.

Later, Hod joined the Durmand Priory, and spent following years as an explorer and adventurer, reaching to great fame with his deeds in the Shiverpeaks and lands beyond. He went missing prior to forming of the Pact in 1323 AE but later joined the fight against the Elder Dragon Zhaitan in 1325 AE as part of the Pact forces.

Appearance[edit]

A necromancer's closest companion is death. In acknowledgement of this, I mark my face with the symbol of a ghostly wraith.

Hod has grown old during the years, and though he is still fast and strong and maintaining a bulky, muscular figure typical to any male norn, he is no longer the warrior he used to be, having taking the path of the necromancer. His face and features are scarred by numerous battles and harrowing experiences he has had in his life.

Personality[edit]

My most important quality is that I have the necessary intuition to guard the Mists.

A lifetime of war and battle has shaped Hod's personality to somewhat vengeful for a norn. He was once known as a hearty hero who was ready and able to assist anyone in danger or otherwise in need of aid, but not much is known about his agenda or character as of recent.

Present day[edit]

At a recent celebratory moot held in Hoelbrak, I blacked out.

Hod Deathrender has recently seen defending Diessa Plateau and surrounding regions against the invading dredge and the Flame Legion. He has also often worked alongside of his order and acted as a Durmand Priory liaison between the Priory and the Vigil.
