The objective is to move through the rings in sequence using mounts. The next ring is shown on the map () using an orange flag on a black circle. The adventure ends at the final ring, which takes you across a finish line. A Skimmer can be rented from the Mount Trainer [Skimmer Rental] NPC just north of the starting point.

Most of the race takes place over water, where the skimmer has the fastest movement speed. However, there is a portion which covers land, in which case it is useful to swap mounts (to either Raptor or Jackal) to move over more quickly for that small segment, and then swap back to the skimmer when the water portion continues.

• Successfully completing the race within x minutes awards the  Ace Racer effect, increasing Magic Find by 25% for 15 minutes while in Labyrinthine Cliffs.
• In 2018 the race included sharks that would jump out at the racers and attempt to knock them off their skimmer. In 2019, the sharks were removed.
