Include cities in the table[edit]

Why doesn't the top table include the cities? I could not figure out how to add them. Will keep trying. Separ 20:19, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

the grove is missing on the table...

Per redirect from World Completion[edit]

I'd recommend copying the tables from the previous version of the World Completion page to here - having such an enormous table is unwieldly :/ Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 10:17, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Well, the table isn't so unwieldly, when you click on the region colomn. Unfortunatly you can't tell the wiki to sort the table by this colomn per default. At least as far as I know. - Yandere Talk to me... 19:13, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
If we could only sub-categorize locations as Category:Cities or Category:Explorable zones, this table wouldn't require 4 DPL calls. But no, people say that's stupid. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 19:34, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
I never said that. O_o - Yandere Talk to me... 19:45, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
couldn't we include a property "required for world completion" and ask the dpl call to list everything this that property? - Yandere Talk to me... 19:48, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
We could be dickishly lazy, create a switch statement along the lines of
{{#switch: {{PAGENAME}}
 | Chantry of Secrets
 | Black Citadel = Category:Cities
 | Blazeridge Steppes
 | ...
 | Sparkfly Fen
 | Straits of Devastation = Category:Explorable areas
}}
and bung it in the location infobox. Ah the things a lazy guy would do to avoid mucking about with infoboxes :P
...or y'know, get a bot to run through em. Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:15, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
The infobox already documents the location's {type}, it just doesn't categorize by it. Which I think it should - we categorize skills/weapons/items by type, but oh no, doing that for locations would unleash a hellstorm of redundant categories. (Sorry Yandere, those vague comments aren't aimed at you (or Alex).) —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 20:18, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
I don't really see a problem with allowing it to categorize into Explorable Zone if its already got | type = Explorable zone in the infobox. Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:22, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
The Chantry of Secrets is the odd ball since it is neither a city nor a explorable zone. It is a very special instance, and doesn't belong into a category. That's why I added the chantry from hand.
The more I think about it it would be a good thing to have something like a (hidden) category or a property, where all cities, zones and whatever which counts against map completion will go. I think this would also be the easiest thing to update, when new zones are added to map completion. - Yandere Talk to me... 21:08, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
Konig has a problem with categorizing to make dpl calls simpler because it introduces redundancies in the location hierarchy. We categorize all the contents inside the zone into the zone category. The zones don't get categorized directly, they get put in their region category, which are also indirectly categorized into Tyria. You can get all the items you want from category = **Tyria, but that grabs all the other crap you don't need display.--Relyk ~ talk > 01:29, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
That's a hierarchy by locational subdivisions. What I want is a hierarchy by type. Those hierarchies are complementary, not redundant. It's like categorizing skills by profession and by slot and by type - no one has ever said those hierarchies are redundant. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 03:08, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
I was going to say the same, as it's in the same terms of the SMW location properties.--Relyk ~ talk > 03:43, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
Konig is a lore guy, he'll leave the sorting of the wheat from the chaff to us. (not as if he'll notice :p )Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 12:43, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

Timberline Falls[edit]

Timberline Falls is not shown on this list, yet it seems to count toward map completion progress. Did it get missed somehow? I'm not familiar enough with wiki mechanics to know what would need to be fixed due to how this table is constructed. I may be mistaken and TF doesn't actually count toward map completion, but I don't remember seeing or hearing about that before. 108.169.203.171 23:10, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

Fixed. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 23:22, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

Bug?[edit]

Anyone had the bug where you get the reward for map completion but my list shows 99% complete with 2 way points missing? 188.220.173.91 23:39, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

2 waypoints? Sounds like maybe the 2 new waypoints in Orr weren't added to the map completion criteria? —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:10, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
Could be it. I'll give that a go. Thanks 188.220.173.91 18:13, 25 February 2013 (UTC)

Sort order[edit]

Although the table can be sorted using any column, the current order seems completely arbitrary. Is there any reason why it's not alphabetical by zone or region? Or even by number of map unlocks? 75.37.23.47 16:43, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Because of the multiple DPL calls necessary to generate it. It's alphabetical by cities, then explorable zones, then Chantry. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 16:47, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
Would it be possible to insert some sort of horizontal rule between those three sections? I appreciate you explaining the mechanics, but that's not going to be obvious to anyone just looking at the table. 75.37.23.47 16:57, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
We can add the type of location.--Relyk ~ talk > 17:13, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

At-a-Glance[edit]

I've created two at-a-glance pages for those interested in map completion:

  • A single list of all the locations that have associated chat codes.
  • A condensed list that summarizes those same chat codes by zone.

The first list is helpful is you know where to go, but don't have that area unlocked (or, like me, can't remember where it is): look up the PoI or Waypoint, copy the chat code, whisper it to yourself, and put a personal waypoint at the location.

The second list is helpful is you are missing 1-2 PoIs or WPs to complete a map. Whisper the entire list of codes to yourself (takes two or three copy/pastes) and click on each until you find the one that's missing. This is especially helpful in maps like Frostgorge Sound, that include a Complete heart (map icon).png that overlaps a Point of interest (map icon).png.

Unfortunately, there's no shortcut to locating vistas or skill challenges. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:15, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

You can link using {{map link}} and ids, which generate copypastable individual links if you only need specific ones. I like the condensed, I think that's what most people will go for. I would probably use the list and have it sit next to my game though, so it wouldn't hurt to have both?--Relyk ~ talk < 21:25, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the tip. I don't think that template was working, the last time I was contributing (which, admittedly, was ages ago). I'll look into updating the list later (and for the JP list, too). Since I started my project before the API was released, I had to create my own offline table linking ID codes to type, names, locations, etc. When I have time, I can update the wiki version to use the IDs natively. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:59, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
I was looking through the list and than found "Borderlands: Blue", "Borderlands: Green" and "Borderlands: Green" as well as "Eternal BG". Are those the API names? - Yandere Talk to me... 22:04, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
No, those are my personal names, so that the borderlands sort together; I forgot to change them back to the official names. The API is excellent for finding the technically correct values of fields, but the nomenclature is often poor, unhelpful, or horribly inconsistent. (The number of items on the TP that are misclassified is still well over a 100 by my count, and I'm sure that's a gross underestimate.) Thanks for catching the error. \
As an aside, for those reasons (technically correct, but poor, unhelpful, or inconsistent), I don't think GW2W should always rely on the API to determine the wiki title of an article or to use it as the last word in determining classification of an NPC or item. (I don't mean to start a discussion about that on this talk page — if anyone wants to chat about that, let's move that conversation elsewhere, e.g. my personal talk page or a community one. Also, since I hardly ever edit here, I don't think my opinion should carry much weight.)Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 22:13, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Table rewrite with SMW[edit]

moved from User talk:Chieftain Alex/sandbox9#Map completion finale

Alright then, the remaining issues are either a result of wiki organization, or are due to my lack of gw2...

  1. Divinity's Reach - 1 extra waypoint (talk) - Waypoint (map icon).png Commons Waypoint currently listed on both Western Commons and Dwayna Low Road. (solution: go to waypoint ingame, look at map to see which area you are standing in)
  2. Bloodtide Coast - 1 extra poi - Point of interest (map icon).png Chantry of Secrets - currently listed as part of the Bloodtide Coast zone, but Bloodtide Coast does not list the Chantry of Secrets in the table. (solution: either a) put chantry in the b.c. table, and then remove smw annotation from instances, or b) remove chantry from table)
  3. Blue BorderlandsBlue World Border/Red World Border/Green World Border - listed as part of Borderlands. suggest set api as part of the respective explorable zones (2 each). -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:26, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
I only looked at the SMW side of the table, and it is 100% accurate except for the following items, all verified in game:
  • Divinity's Reach has 13 waypoints instead of the 12 indicated, fully explained on the talk page
  • Bloodtide has 18 pois instead of the 19 indicated, as you indicated it is probably because the chantry of secrets poi is classified as being in bloodtide coast when it is, in fact, not
  • All borderlands have 6 waypoints instead of the 4 indicated
  • I am unable to access claw island right now.

DR waypoints verified. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 22:47, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
User Chieftain Alex where in wvw.jpg
What would be really helpful to my mind would be a few maps of the WvW zones with labelled markers. Are any of those yellow letters the position of the Red/Blue/Green World Borders?
I wouldn't be surprised if claw island doesn't count.. there are exactly 4 too many POI at the moment to meet relyk's targets. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:50, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
Yes, red blue and green borderlands are the zones with the letters in that image. Green is west, Red is north, and Blue is east, with Eternal Battlegrounds being south. Waypoints in wvw work differently than in PvE. There are 3 permanent waypoints in each borderlands, marked with KL, CD, and GH respectively. The one that's missing in each waypoint is the Citadel Waypoint, which is actually visible on the map in the large thick horse shoe shaped wall. Then there are 3 waypoints that only appear when someone purchases an upgrade. These are the two keep waypoints, marked with IJ, AB, and EF, respectively. The one transient waypoint missing from each borderland is the garrison waypoint, directly south of the citadel. Psycho Robot (talk) 23:05, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
Great thank you, sounds like we got the wvw waypoints fixed. Just Chantry of Secrets left! -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 23:15, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
dug deeper into my buggy query and found I had artificially improved the totals. Totals work now, but information about Chantry still needs to be made consistent. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 00:28, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
Bloodtide Coast has 18 pois. The Chantry of Secrets is not in the Bloodtide Coast zone, it is in the Chantry of Secrets zone. It has its own loading screen and its own heart/skillpoint/vista/waypoint/poi counter at the bottom of that loading screen, however it only shows 1 poi with no other map completion things. So to have smw stuff turn up properly you might have to set up a new zone for chantry of secrets if its not already set up like that, I'm not sure. Psycho Robot (talk) 01:42, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
Chantry of Secrets is not a zone, it's an instance because only your party will be present when you enter it. I think we should just change Chantry's "within" parameter to say "Kryta" and that'll do it. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:56, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
One problem with doing that is: a lot of players consider the Chantry to be in Bloodtide, since you can only reach it by walking through that zone. I don't think that means you shouldn't do as Ish advises above, but can we do something for people using the wiki to checklist their map completion? i.e. something that makes it obvious to them that besides all the POIs they need for Bloodstide, they also need to enter the special instance. (Although, I suspect judging from the posts on Reddit, Forums, and elsewhere that people are just always going to be confused by this and there really isn't anything we can do.) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:50, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
We already put dungeons in the zone rather than area, and then add the area to connections. No confusion with that.--Relyk ~ talk < 01:53, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Totals[edit]

these were known to be correct on 27th December 2013;

  • Complete heart (map icon).png 301
  • Waypoint (map icon).png 511
  • Point of interest (map icon).png 725
  • Skill point.png 202
  • Vista (map icon).png 266

I've just noticed that some of the areas/regions have incorrect/inconsistent counts, so these probably need sorting out :( -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:56, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

After fixing the PoIs for LA (2 added in Escape from LA), totals in the table match in-game. False River Valley waypoint was added in Origins of Madness. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 18:21, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
Alright, how about Ascalon then? the region has 115 in the parameter, and SMW thinks 117. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:36, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
Fixed by removing hard-coded values for regions. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 19:14, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Feedback 2015/12/07 - Lion's Arch POI Count[edit]

The completion table shows 26 POI's for Lion's Arch but the map only shows 25. Which one is right?

Multiple issues contributed to this. Fixed. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 16:50, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Table Totals Incorrect 2020-12-24[edit]

The totals are incorrect at the bottom of table - The numbers in the table do not add up to the total at the bottom. I copied the table into a spreadsheet and re-did the sums. It should be Hearts=373, Waypoints=624, POIs=1333, HPs=269, Vistas=415, instead of what it is showing (325, 491, 1073, 204, 349).

Also the list of zones seems arbitrary. There is The Ruined City of Arah but not any other dungeons that also have Waypoints and POIs. Also Aetherblade Retreat is in the list but is no longer an accessible zone.

Suggested changes and problems[edit]

Currently, I am following it to do map completion. Doing pretty well so far. The values seem to be incorrect. According to the map information given by the game hearts are 303, hero points are 189, waypoints are 486, vistas are 226, points of interests are 653. Maybe add a checklist sorta thing on the table too, so if we follow along we can just mark off the zones we have done. Also if we alrdeady worked on some map completion in a character it would make it more convenient to use. It works well for core tyria map completion.
