Open World PvE Thief Solo Builds[edit]

Power Builds[edit]

Damage is dealt directly and takes effect immediately.

GW2Logo new.png D/D Signet Thief[edit]

An easy to play build that packs a real punch that allows you to focus more on positioning and avoiding high damage attacks as you carve your targets down to size. Shortbow should always be taken along no matter your weapons of choice whether it’s needed for some extra mobility or for blasting your own smoke fields for stealth.

  • Deadly Arts: Dagger Training provides an additional 5% damage to Dagger attacks and a chance to inflict Poison, Lotus Poison weakens targets that are poisoned.
  • Deal +20% extra damage when striking foes below 50% Health inflicts Immobilizes and Poison and you deal 2% more damage per condition on your target.
  • Gain 10% additional Crit damage against foes above 50% health.
  • Gain Might when you gain Fury from striking an enemy whose health is below 90%
  • Signet of Shadows provides a base 25% movement rate and enables you to quickly disengage from combat.
  • Shortbow is still worthwhile

Variants

  • Deadly Arts: Mug can provide a small heal when stealing.
  • Critical Strikes: Invigorating Precision heals you for 15% of your outgoing Crit damage.
  • Critical Strikes: Twin Fangs is better for shorter fights where you are able to remain above 90% health and may also benefit from Scholar Runes.
  • Signet of Shadows can be replaced to suit the situation with any other utility skill as needed. Suggestions: Spider Venom Blinding Powder, Shadow Refuge, Scorpion Wire.
  • Dual Daggers is better vs single targets or small groups.
  • Sword + Pistol is better for larger groups and is only included in the build for reference.
  • Thieves Guild can be useful as a distraction / additional targets against stronger foes and also Procs Signet of Malice.
  • Critical Strikes: Ankle Shots can be taken if you need / want to use Pistols for range.

HoT Texture Centered Trans.png Staff Signet Daredevil[edit]

  • Staff replaces the Daggers from the Core Thief build.
  • Heal - Signet of Malice can be swapped for Channeled Vigor for improved Endurance gain.

PoF logo small.png D/D Deadeye[edit]

PoF logo small.png Dual Pistol Deadeye[edit]

PoF logo small.png Rifle / Shortbow Scholar Deadeye[edit]

Variants

  • Heal: Malicious Restoration transfers Conditions to your marked target.
  • Heal: Withdraw evades and removes movement impairing conditions.
  • Rifle + Dual Daggers variant uses Shadow Flare > Shadow Swap as gap closer that can be used when switching from Rifle to Daggers or any other melee weapon(s) to suit and also provides a brief 50% Damage increase against your mark.

Condition Builds[edit]

Deals damage over time.

GW2Logo new.png Sinister Venomed Traps Thief[edit]

Dagger attacks have a 33% to inflict poison and immobilizing a foe poisons them, poisoned foes are weakened and you cause weakness on crit. Dodging leaves behind Caltrops to Bleed and Cripple foes while also using Impaling Lotus to further Bleed, Torment and Cripple foes.

Variants

HoT Texture Centered Trans.png Viper Venomed Traps Daredevil[edit]

Daredevil also brings Tricks to remove a condition. Stealing applies Poison + Confusion and restores 50 Endurance.

Variant

  • Daredevil: Havoc Mastery can be taken for a 7% direct damage increase.

Explorer Builds[edit]

Swiftness, Evades, Endurance/Vigor or Stealth to not only get around quickly but also unhindered and be able to quickly disengage from combat.

HoT Texture Centered Trans.png Staff Evasive Weave Daredevil[edit]

Skills with an initiative cost heal you, your attacks heal you, 15% percentage of your outgoing Crit damage heals you. Evading an attack heals you and grants you Vigor, dodging grants you Swiftness. The Whirl from Staff 2: Weakening Charge in a Dark Field creates Leeching Bolts that provides some additional damage and heals you. You gain a Barrier when you execute a Leap Combo, leaping in to a dark field = blind, poison = weakness and smoke field = stealth.

Variants

  • Can use Zealot Gear for even stronger overall heals.
  • Scholar Runes can be used as easy to maintain and get back to 90% Health.
  • Sigil of Blood for even more self healing on Crit.
  • Sigil of Stamina to refill endurance on kill.
  • Sigil of Life to improve your healing a bit further.

Utility Builds[edit]

Boons / Support / Healing / Condi Cleanse

GW2Logo new.png Dual Dagger / Shortbow Signet Trickster Thief[edit]

Can use one dagger in primary weapon slot and place the other in secondary slot for the sake of weapon swapping to more easily benefit from Trickery - Quick Pockets.

HoT Texture Centered Trans.png Dual Dagger OR Sword + Pistol OR Staff Signet Trickster Daredevil[edit]

Variants

  • Daredevil: Havoc Mastery can be swapped for Weakening Strikes sacrificing some damage for survivability.
  • Sword + Dagger can be taken to strip additional Boons with Sword 3,3 - Larcenous Strike.

PoF logo small.png Dual Dagger / Rifle Boon Deadeye[edit]

Variants

  • For those that prefer to stick with Dual Daggers you can equip them one in the primary weapon slot and the other in the secondary slot, you can then take Trickery: Quick Pockets and make use of On Swap Sigils like Sigil of Energy.
  • The Sigil of Accuracy can be swapped out for a Sigil of Stamina that refills your stamina each time you kill a foe, Sigil of Luck for a 75% chance of a Random boon or Sigil of Bloodlust to increase your Power to make up for your lack of DPS.

Thematic[edit]

These builds are focused around a particular theme and include gear suggestions (where feasible) for those who appreciate the theme and look of their characters over a dry DPS build.

GW2Logo new.png Dual Dagger Vipers Toxic Vine Traps of the Nightmare Court Sylvari Thief[edit]

A truly toxic build that poisons and bleeds foes while also weakening them, your weapons coated with forest spider venom. Stealing up to your target will leave them Confused and Weakened as they get the first whiff of your toxic aroma as your Grasping Vines take hold of your prey as the you plant the tainted “Healing” Seed that will keep them enthralled and immobile as they become intoxicated in the toxic scent of your blooms.

For added flair, use a Sylvari draped in Nightmare Court garb from Twilight Arbor with weapons from:
