Character Slots

Since we've seen that they're probably going to be [1 slot for 800 gems], maybe we should add it to the page. Or are we waiting until it's added to a BWE/release? Evil Neato 13:27, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

Suggested Merge

I saw there was a suggestion to merge this page with the Gem page. I'm all for it since the "Gem" page is only a few sentences long. Although I would still list the section as the Gem Store. ~Ao Allusir 14:30, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Gems are a currency. The gem store is an item mall/cash shop/service. They are different. 69.245.145.219 10:53, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Not a candidate for merging.
1) As mentioned above... It would be like merging merchant with coin.
2) ATM there is not much on the gem page... but there will be. Things like... requires a credit card to purchase with real world money (or w/e), exchange rate trends, items they can buy... etc.
3) Can we get an admin ruling on this and remove the merging tag / thing-a-ma-jig?  Frostty1 19:22, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
This really doesn't need admin's attention. Both the IP as yourself have provided sufficient and sensible reasoning as to not carry out a merge. I'll remove the tag because of this. - Infinite - talk 19:23, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. When I said "admin", I really meant "someone-else-who-can-remove-it-so-I-don't-get-yelled-at" ~[O_o]~   Frostty1 20:00, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Suggested Move

I am against it. The preview that announced this change still referred to this functionality exclusively as "the Gem Store," only calling the Black Lion Trading Company the group that is managing it. Also, in the screenshot of the updated store, it still says Gem Store at the top (albeit in a smaller font.) It would be better to create a separate page for the Black Lion Trading Company saying that it runs the Gem Store, or maybe just adding that information onto this page. ~ Bow User Bow Sig.png | 03:18, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

I think we should see how it is in game before we make any changes i mean its less then a day away.- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 03:26, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
after reviewing it in game it looks like the gem store and the trading post are one and the same so i suggest merge rename.- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 09:47, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
move the content, but redirect the names maybe? Players won'tbe saying "Black Lion Trading Company shop" but simply gem shop or cash shop. --EeUser Ee sig.png 15:12, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
I agree and wish a admin would come thew and make the move this tag has been on this page for more then a few months.- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 00:40, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Moving a page doesn't require administrator input or action. Personally, I don't have enough interest in this issue one way or the other - Gem Store is the much more common name that people will search for, but BLTC is the "official" name - as long as there's a redirect from the one to the other, I don't care. Move it yourself. Bah, that was hasty - I see the problem is that the other page already exists. However, the BLTC is a collective interface that includes multiple features: the Gem Store, the Trading Post, and the Currency Exchange. I see two options: combine all BLTC features at BLTC, or leave them on separate pages. Because the function of the Gem Store and Trading Post are so different, I would actually recommend leaving them separate pages as they are now. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 00:48, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
This has stalled for a month. Given the current state of this page and the lack of discussion, I've removed the move flag. — Burfo User Burfo avatar.jpg 05:06, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Costume Items acquisition

A few notes on the costume items; one, they are "account-bound", presumably you can trade them between characters on your account but not to other players (as opposed to soul-bound, bound to that character).

Now, I'm trying to figure out if there is some way to replicate costume items purchased; specifically, if you can buy a hat, then equip it to multiple characters on your account. It appears that you only get one copy of the item purchased, and it is sent directly to you using the Mail system; once acquired, it can be deleted like any other item, and I've yet to discover a way to get it back if deleted (I purchased one item and deleted it to test just that). It stands to reason that there should be some way to re-make an item, especially if it was bought with actual money, but the method to do so is either hidden to some extent, or doesn't exist. (attempting to pick the same item up from the shop again simply asks if I'd like to buy it again.)

Any other research yet on the subject? (keeping in mind of course that this is a beta, so there might not even be a lot of value in any research done just yet. I'm an eager beaver.) --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 05:08, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

just report the bug--193.105.40.18 09:23, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
Is there any further word on this now that the game is out? I would like to know since if I purchase a costume on the gem store and there is no way to re-acquire the costume later it would be a moot point to actually purchase anything on the gem store besides account wide upgrades like character slots and bank slots. Kcinshin 14:45, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
So long as you don't actually delete the costume items yourself, they'll never go away. But yeah, taking up inventory space isn't exactly optimal, and no, I haven't heard anything new on this since the beta. (I'm hoping something is added in later, since I would like to be able to re-access the Celebration Hat later on if I accidentally delete it now.) --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 09:37, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

Price Disconnect

They don't want to post prices because they want to create a price disconnect. While I understand their point of view, it works to get some people to buy more, and others to buy less. However, those who buy less are probably people who were on the fence about purchases anyways. So they probably to generate more profit from this type of system. To counter this perspective, wiki's are sources of information. I propose that prices be listed on the main page once we figure out what the pricing is for sure. Should be listed for all currencies for which the exchange rate is standard, and include an off site exchange rate calculator link for currencies who's rate/gem fluxuate. So, for example, under account, for only USD ($), assuming 800 gems = $10, it would be: --Mooseyfate 21:57, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

I was thinking of this earlier, but wasn't sure how to implement it. What about other currencies, though? List all of the applicable ones, or somehow let users decide which is displayed? Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 01:20, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
I think we need to wait until GW2 goes live, and see which currencies stay at a static exchange rate before doing this. If there's absolute official data about this somewhere, then we could go ahead. I just think it would be a good thing to do once we have all the facts. But not before. --Mooseyfate 04:55, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Well, there is a table with excange rates in the article Gem. To see $ and € at the same exchange rate is increadably annoying, because this probably means that everyone in the Euro zone has to pay more money for their gems.
Gems 800 1600 2800 4000
£ 8.50 17.00 29.75 42.50
$ or € 10.00 20.00 35.00 50.00
Yandere 07:23, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Yandere, looked all over for a page like that and couldn't find it. Those seem to be all hard coded, so they must be static purchase rates. Revised the table above. --Mooseyfate 17:41, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

It's a lot of tedious work. I don't want to do it if it's just going to be reverted.... so giving users a couple opportunities to post here if they don't think it's appropriate. If it were a quick thing, then yeah, I'd just do it and go with your proposed outlook. Thanks for the support though :) --Mooseyfate 16:32, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Since ArenaNet is based in North America and we use US standards across the wiki, USD (and euros) should be the first column or row, however we want to format it. Felix Omni Signature.png 16:35, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
I'm going for consistency with charts I've seen appear elsewhere on the site. I agree with you otherwise though. --Mooseyfate 00:41, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
It's been long enough for people to object, and no one has, so these changes have been implemented on the main page. Thanks for everyone's input. I don't care if someone wants to touch up the formatting, like I said, was just going for consistency (tweaked a little further for readability though). --Mooseyfate 01:36, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
I still agree with the above statement I think the us dollar and euro are going to be the thing that more people who visit this wiki are going to care about (honestly i don't even know what that other currency is) and I will change it when I can find time.- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 23:35, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
Has it been confirmed that the exchange rate is always going to be static? That seems unfair since 1 US Dollar is rarely, if ever, equivalent to 1 Euro. In fact, as I write this, 10 Euro is roughly 13.12 USD. The current gem store exchange rate penalizes players paying in Pounds Sterling even more. It just seems like this unfairly favors one region over the others, depending on real world exchange rates. That said, I suppose it would probably be a huge headache to program it to account for the real world economy... 131.151.60.38 03:09, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

Gem Cost column formatting

I'd like to propose changing the Gem Cost column on this page to have a different formatting, that I think looks better and will be less prone to wrapping. Any thoughts?

Example Table Current New
blah blah 125 Gem for   5
225Gem for 10
1500 Gem for 25
5 — 125 Gem
10 — 225 Gem
25 — 1,500 Gem
blah blah 2 75Gem for   1
275Gem for 5
75 Gem
5 — 275 Gem

Burfo User Burfo avatar.jpg 04:04, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

I needed awile before I figured out that the new and the old column should represent the same thing. I think the old one is way more intuitive, than your proposal. - Yandere Talk to me... 05:59, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
Okay, I can see what you mean. Do you think the current version is okay, or just that the new one is not good? Either way feel that whatever we are putting here should be in the same format that we are putting on the item pages (e.g. Mystic_Forge_Stone) to be consistent. — Burfo User Burfo avatar.jpg 06:11, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps I'll just remove the "For 1" on the non-multi gem values. That is more than half of them... — Burfo User Burfo avatar.jpg 06:21, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
I think the old one is ok, not perfect but ok. - Yandere Talk to me... 06:23, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
This is what I'm talking about with the weird wrapping. http://i.imm.io/BCgZ.png Maybe I can also just make the column wider. — Burfo User Burfo avatar.jpg 23:22, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
why not make 3 collums in the table one with just the gem amount then one with just the gem icon and then one with the 'for 5' I think then the table will take care of the weird issues you are seeing.- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 23:46, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
i have done this for the first table. If anyone wants to do it for the others, knock yourself out! :) - M. 6 November 2012

Gifting Gems and BLTC Items to Other players

During the betas, this was an option (or at least the items you could gift)... looks like it is gone, does someone have info on whether or not this will be added back in or is it permanently removed? 192.168.104.30 15:17, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

Missing "Account" tab

It seems there is currently no Account tab. Also, the Character Slot Expansion is listed under both Account and Upgrades on the wiki. Does anyone know if the Bank Tab Expansion will be available soon? Darcy 22:48, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Similarly to the Bag Slot Expansion not shown in the Gem Store, this is hidden in the Bank panel. See the explanation on the Bank Tab Expansion page, hopefully it is understandable.82.131.202.34 23:41, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
I have removed the "Account" section from the page. World transfers are done at the Character Selection screen, Bank Tab Expansion is done on your Bank window, and Character Expansion is under Upgrades in the GEM store. Darcy 14:04, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
This is the page people come to to find out what you can by with gems. Perhaps instead of nuking all that information, you might want to change the add a note, or move it to a new table. The upgrades can still be bought with gems. Even though they can't be bought through the gem store, there's no better place to put them than here. -CrazyRabidSquirrel 17:16, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

Gem price oddity

I noticed that until you type in the price for at least 5 gems into the gems for gold window the correct price will not display. For example when the price per 100 gems is 40 silver and 40 copper, you cannot buy just 1 gem for 41 copper, it takes a much higher price to just buy one. And two gems will be less than double the price of one, which doesn't makes sense.

It is not until you type the proper price of 5, which is around 2 silver, 3 copper that the price is correct.

In fact, get the price for 5 gems, type that in, then divide by 5 and add that onto your total, you should get six gems right? You won't, for some reason it will not give you a sixth gem and will remain at five, despite adding the apparent price for a sixth gem. From what I can tell only multiples of 5 (at least 5 and 10 gems) give the right price. 75.86.187.92 06:29, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Gem Store Discount Items

I have noticed that they have a promotion section with a discount, does anybody know what day of the week this changes or if it is weekly. I would like to put this in the notes if possible for those that are wondering about it. If knowbody knows I will watch for a pattern. -- Natalie Black User Natalie Black sig.jpg 06:08, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

All I remember is that GW1 had the promotions as well - but they would run for weeks at a time - with a new promotion each cycle. I think the promotions are/were unique each time, thus recording them individually down for history may not be effective. I however suggest that we add a "current promotion" entry like how in GW1 wiki there is "nick collects x trophies this week".A Liability 20:28, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Halloween 2012

after the event is over I am assuming these items (halloween items) are going to be removed from the gem store, I would like to purpose that we make a sub page something like gemstone/special events that has all the yearly special events themed items stored, anyone else have any thoughts on this?- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 20:48, 25 October 2012 (PDT)

All of the Halloween items I just checked on the Gem Store have "For sale only during the Halloween season." in them, so I think it's safe to assume they aren't permanent. That being said, I completely agree with the creation of a subpage for holiday Gem Store items, although I'd like to keep a section on this page that mentions the existence of these items. -- MS 21:03, 25 October 2012 (PDT)
We're aware of the Historical section, right? Good. Sure, a subpage for retired/out of cycle items would be a nice addition, as that list is going to get bigger and bigger. It would be nice to have a table showing all of the cyclical items and what they are associated with, so people can plan accordingly. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 21:12, 25 October 2012 (PDT)
I am well aware of that but I don't think Halloween items and other event items are historical because I assume we will see them again next year. also the page is rather long already and adding Halloween and if they do wintersday and whatever other yearly events to the store, it will make the page even longer. I think that this page should be for permanent and one time items.- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 21:19, 25 October 2012 (PDT)
This page is unnecessarily long as-is, just imagine a year from now when we have Halloween, Thanksgiving, Wintersday, New Years, Valentine's Day, St Patrick's Day, and every other little holiday an American company would throw in some special items for. I see no other option besides a separate page for these items. -- MS 21:50, 25 October 2012 (PDT)
yes ms that's the point i just made...- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 20:08, 26 October 2012 (PDT)

(Reset indent) here is what I am going to do I under the historical section I am going to add a sub section called "special event items" and then from there I am just going to link the Halloween 2012 page because all the items are listed on there as well. anyone disagree with this? or do people feel that a sub page would be better?- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 06:02, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

Guest?

Guest at 0 gems? I thought guesting wasn't implemented yet.62.159.14.62 14:39, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

It's not. I've removed the line from the table. If and when ANet implements guesting, then we will find out how they intended to implement it. It might be a 0-gem link or it could be via an item, a guild feature, etc. It's premature to assume we know how it will work. 75.36.178.33 19:54, 8 December 2012 (UTC)
It hasn't been implemented yet but we document the game and its upcoming features and what ever information we have on said features. so i am going to revert your changes to this page and the world page ip because they are removing information that we know about something that anet said was coming.- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 23:11, 8 December 2012 (UTC)
It is not in the game. There is not an implementation date. There is already an entire article to discuss things that ANet has planned. Most importantly, if you look in the gem shop (which this article documents) and the world transfer screen, there is no option for guesting -- you want to note upcoming features in a Notes section, by all means. But it's not okay to give equal weight to things that ANet has yet to deliver. 75.36.177.0 23:46, 8 December 2012 (UTC)
that doesn't mean that they are not going to. unless they have posted someplace that they are not going to deliver on something or on this, and you have a source to back it up then I stand by what I wrote. On top of that do you then think that we should delete the wintersday page? because "anet has yet to deliver"- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 00:03, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
You can't really compare the two. There's a giant banner thing telling me to get excited about Wintersday every time I load the client, so Anet is constantly reminding people that they're working on it. No one has heard a peep about guesting since months ago. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 01:00, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
But you don't have a source of someone from anet saying that they gave up.- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 01:14, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
Duke Nukem Forever, huh? Vili 点 User talk:Vili 02:11, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
But do we have a source saying that guesting will be implemented through the gem store? I don't think so, so I don't know why it was ever added here in the first place. Mentioning it on the World article as a upcoming feature is fine, but don't make stuff up. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 03:11, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
You're kidding about comparing to Wintersday right? ANet has promised it and given very specific dates. In contrast, there are no promises about guesting, about how it works, about how it will be implemented, or when it will arrive. In fact, I would even argue that they could never deliver "guesting" as long as they provided some other way for friends to play together, even if they aren't on the same server (no, I don't know what that would be -- this isn't a suggestions discussion).
The point is: we document the game as it is, as it's played, and include things with a definitive delivery date. Anything that is speculation, even by ANet, goes into "upcoming" -- nothing else there goes in a main article. As such, I don't agree with included the so-called compromise -- it's still including something that isn't in the game alongside stuff that is. 75.36.177.0 04:54, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
I was thinking what Dr Ishmael was, why the gem store of all places? I'm fine with mentioning it on appropriate pages, but if there's no mention of it being related to the gem store, then it doesn't belong here. The discussion of how likely or when it was last mentioned is irrelevant. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 04:58, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) (regurgiate manifold's statement go) Guesting isn't the same as a world transfer, so it's inappropriate in the first place. Guesting itself doesn't have an associated gem store cost, contrasting the Celebration Hat. There is no mention of guesting have a gem cost by ArenaNet. No reason to list it on the Gem Store article.--Relyk 05:01, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

(Reset indent) whatever, only point I am going to make was that it was in the "Other Upgrades not sold in Gem Store" section, have fun keeping this page update.- User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 05:50, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

New Format?

As pretty as it is I was wondering if we should change how this page is viewed as over time more items are added to the gem store and others are taken out. My suggestion would be a collapsible table like the crafting pages. As it stand this page still shows Wintersday items and who knows if they will be the same by next year? I would also ask someone with more skill to take command and do it if people agree so I don't try it myself and balls it up :) Turial User Turial sig.png 18:37, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Copy the page to your userspace and test out changes there, it's what a lot of us "with more skill" do. That way you can "balls it up" all you want without affecting the mainspace. :P —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 19:01, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Discounts History

Wouldn't it be nice to list the different discounted products somewhere? Sort of a history of what was discounted, the original price and the discount%, and when. (Also, the store picture needs updating, methinks (my store looks messy or I'd have done that). Also if anyone understands the mechanic of how exactly Anet determine the price of gems to/from gold it would be very interesting to know how much/little intervention is involved. (Have gems for $ ever been discounted?) --Alad 02:37, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

I'd like to see this done. It could be useful to know which items where in promotion and how much they were discounted. --Darkever 2013/05/08, 14:15 (UTC)
No it wouldn't be nice its annoying how its set up now when I was watching this page (and editing it) I was putting the historical content on the special event page and then only had the current items listed it cut down on the amount of bulk that is already on this page. -User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 07:04, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Gem Store page is becoming too long and it will be bigger and bigger. I suggest that we move all historical gem store items to a page named like this Gem Store (historical). What do you think? Can I do it? =P W.Wolf (talk) 00:03, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

or we could just do it the way I was doing it before I gave up on this page. Ie make a section of the living world page house its own gem store items as seen here http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gem_Store#Special_event -User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 06:39, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
The first way seems a little easier to manage, and more logical for anyone trying to find info. Keep the gem store stuff in the gem store pages. -Auron 11:23, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
They update the gem store every week, adding and removing items. I don't think it's necessary to create a section everytime time they add or remove an item. I will create the historical page then. W.Wolf (talk) 15:55, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Regarding Tyndel's revert of 11:07, 1 September 2015‎, Regardless of what Reddit says (and it seems to be more of a general discussion then a definitive list of items), if you actually go in-game, open the Gem store, and enter SALVAGE into the search field, it shows copper not silver. ~ 1Maven (talk) 14:01, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

The copper-fed item is a permanent item in the gemstore, while the silver-fed item was a special offer from august 30-31. The table you edited is the anniversary sale 2015. Tyndel (talk) 14:03, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
I checked both August 30th and 31st with the same results. ~ 1Maven (talk) 14:13, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
Uhm, okay? Can anyone except reddit and me confirm there was a Silver-Fed Salvage-o-Matic on sale yesterday before 16:00 UTC? And can anybody confirm the Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic was discounted yesterday? Tyndel (talk) 14:18, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
Silver was deffo on sale, I bought one having been after it for ages --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 07:46, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

Shadow Assassin Outfit (2015 Bday sale)

It's currently 454 gems. I just wanted to say that that is a pound of gems, assuming that each gem weights 1 gram. Venom20 User Venom20-icon-0602-sm-black.png 16:51, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

Internal error

Special, Services, Gem Store/Boosts|Boosts, and Toys are giving an error: "Fatal exception of type MWException". It doesn't seem be affecting Style or Upgrades though. Mora 01:38, 10 September 2015 (UTC)

Also affects Gem Store/storage/Toys, I've found. Can't edit anything. Tyndel (talk) 02:22, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
