This novel is dedicated to the late Eir Stegalkin.
Her heart was as long as her legs: never ending and perfect.

Chapter 4

The young huntress watched her teacher pace back and forth before the raging fire. Impatient, eager. Thirsty for another round of ale–and for love.

It was Eir Stegalkin that stood before her: tall, loud, and more beautiful than a Maguuma Jungle sunrise. She looked down at the girl and whispered, "Are you ready to start the hunt?"

"I am–"

They were interrupted by a burst of snow and wind as the doors to the homestead flung open. "A hunt, you say?" Borje growled.

But Eir met his growl with another, "Get back, Sun Chaser. I will not ask you twice."

The young huntress fanned herself, watching the two warriors stare each other down like two wolves competing for their prey. She gulped.

Maybe she was sitting a little too close to the fire.
