Ayumi
Ayumi
“Echovald is free territory, but when freedom comes at the expense of everyone else's welfare, someone has to push back.
— Ayumi
Ayumi is a young tengu and a member of the Kestrels. Her origins as a city-born tengu are sometimes used against her. She is an outsider but open to new ideas, much to the dismay of some of the other traditionalist Kestrel members. Ayumi was brought into the Kestrels by her uncle Viri.[1][2]
After the defeat of the Dragonvoid, Ayumi has been in consideration to become the de facto leader of the Kestrels to keep the Echovald Forest safe from gangs and other forces that threaten the free territory.[3] |
Biography[edit]
Early years[edit]
A city-born tengu, Ayumi was introduced to the Kestrels, the peacekeepers of the Echovald Wilds, by her respected uncle Viri. Many Kestrels such as Zuru were not happy seeing a city tengu joining their ranks and upsetting the status quo, especially after Viri had passed away and Ayumi had begun proposing openminded and somewhat radical ideas to improve Kestrel operations.[2][4]
End of Dragons[edit]
Act 3[edit]
Ayumi communicated with her fellow Kestrels frequently, keeping an eye out on Echovald's health and how the warring factions of the Jade Brotherhood and the Speakers were affecting it and the people living in it.[5] When an unidentified, corrupting force suddenly began spreading across Echovald and affecting the people and animals in it in 1335 AE, Ayumi did her best to help whom she could. Even the Kestrels' efforts did not prevent losses, however, when the corruption found Arborstone and killed or twisted the people in it.[6]
Act 5[edit]
After the defeat of the Dragonvoid, Ayumi was in consideration to become the de facto leader of the Kestrels to keep the Echovald Forest safe from gangs and other forces that threaten the free territory.[3]
What Lies Within[edit]
Months after the Void incident and after having experienced harrowing events while solving the jade crisis in Gyala Delve, Rama gathered enough courage to attempt to pursue a romantic relationship with Min. To make their date less stressful, he invited Gorrik, Taimi, the Commander and the latter's chosen date from three available local friends to join him and Min for an outing at the Red Duck Tea House. Despite the occasional awkward topics of conversation and shyness almost overcoming Rama again, the Commander managed to lighten the mood just enough to allow Rama to steer the date in the right direction and give Min a good time. If Ayumi was chosen as the date, she and the Commander ended up having a good time as well with some good-natured flirting between the two. Ever vigilant, Ayumi inquired if the Commander might have largest wardrobe in all of Tyria and coyly asked if the Commander might accompany her to Club Canach one day with the Commander tentatively being on board for another date in the future.[7]
Janthir Wilds[edit]
In 1337 AE after the global Kryptis invasion attempt, Ayumi accompanied Empress Ihn to attend a meeting in Lion's Arch with several faction leaders from around the known world with the intention of forming the Tyrian Alliance as a united defense force against Tyrian and Mistborn threats. She also attended a second meeting where the founding members of the alliance met with Stoic Alder, Claw of the Harvest Den Lowland Kodan who was considered to become a future member of the alliance, and voted for whether to use the Scepter of Orr against the titans plaguing Janthir and the lowlanders or not. Despite having been present in the inaugural meeting of the alliance and representing Echovald as a free territory, Ayumi did not get to vote and only observed Ihn voicing her stance regarding the scepter. She spent some time chatting and getting acquainted with Kalidris Sparrowhawk who acted as the representative of one of the Great Houses of the tengu Dominion of Winds.

- Ayumi: Well, we got no real promises about how the gangs were going to behave once the world was saved, so we need a plan for what we're going to do about their inevitable disastrous return...
- <Character name>: And?
- Ayumi: There's been talk of...putting me in charge. We usually work by committee, but that makes it difficult to make quick decisions when it's needed. I did it this time around just because someone had to.

- Ayumi: It's always been a loose association. No formal leadership.
- Ayumi: Old Kestrels train new Kestrels, and so the order goes on! It's not actually a perfect system, if I'm being honest...
- Ayumi: Lately, well, a few things've really gotten out of control. Gangs moved in, and they've been pushing people around.
- Ayumi: Innocent people died.
- Ayumi: I've been trying to get us to work together more, but, well, I'm pretty new at this...
- Ayumi: I'm not actually from Echovald, so...no one takes me seriously.

- Gorrik: Commander! Perfect timing. You read Rama's letter?
- <Character name>: Sounds like he needs some support with this whole Min situation.
- Taimi: Luckily, he has us to back him up. Gorrik and I will be there to help. Although, we were thinking...
- Gorrik: It might be nice if you also had someone to bring with you...
- <Character name>: Oh?
- Taimi: Since we're pressed for time, we decided to take some initiative, and...
- Gorrik: Reached out to some local friends to see if they're busy tonight. [...]
- Ayumi: In fact, I've always wanted to ask: Do you have the largest wardrobe in all of Tyria? [...]
- Ayumi: Oh, Commander, I've had some nights out that were a real snooze. But at this rate, I might not roost 'til dawn! You're a riot!
- <Character name>: You're no wallflower yourself! Have any go-to spots in Echovald?
- Ayumi: Oh, a few. And this new club just opened up. Been looking for someone to try it out with...
- <Character name>: Heh, think I know the one. Might have to take you up on that.
