Viri was the tengu uncle of Ayumi and a well-respected figure among the Kestrels. He brought Ayumi, a cityborn tengu socialite who lived in New Kaineng City, to the Echovald Wilds to help the Kestrels safeguard the Echovald Forest during the increasingly violent clashes between the rival Jade Brotherhood and the Speakers. Viri eventually died of natural causes, and many Kestrels, most notably Kestrel Zuru, did not hold Ayumi in high regard and did not see her as being able to live up to Viri's legacy due to her desire to change the Kestrels' ways.
