Request for wiki technical administration

Hi Stephane. I know its the holidays at the moment, but afterwards could you get Justin (or whoever can make the necessary changes) to have a look at this technical request please? Wiki searches not being case-sensitive is an obstacle to users finding stuff which keeps drawing comments on talk pages + reddit. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:58, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi Alex, I've sent Justin an email and will let you know what he thinks. FYI we're going to be working on a MediaWiki software update so this may be wrapped together. Last, this request was in a Talk page and I was wondering if the actual page was no longer used? I mean Guild_Wars_2_Wiki:Requests_for_technical_administration. Happy New Year to you, all editors and the wiki byt the way :) --Stephane Lo Presti talk 17:49, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
You know, I don't think I've actually read that GW2W:TECH description in a long time. I guess I have to formalise any requests that I make. Apologies :p
I'm now wondering if the request is a bit outdated, even if someone complained on reddit the other week about wiki search case sensitivity. I'll have a think about it and see if I can find any examples that actually don't work at the moment... -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:30, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
Ok, Justin is already investigating and if it's an easy fix we'll do it. Let us know how you and the wiki community would like to handle technical requests, if any change if warranted! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 19:33, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
I think the past few years have shown that we can handle all the stuff fine without those bureaucratic processes we inherited from the early days of the GWW. It’s good enough to simply talk about it, and then agree it should be done. And Justin’s very capable of all the technical stuff, so I don’t think we need to continue copying extension installation instructions from somewhere ;) poke | talk 20:16, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

(Reset indent) So I've tried both "ss prospect" and "molten boss fractal", both in-game and on the wiki, and it seems to no longer be an issue? Let us know if there's still an issue, thanks! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 18:56, 18 January 2016 (UTC)

Update:: I already posted it in Guild_Wars_2_Wiki_talk:Requests_for_technical_administration#Fixing_Case_sensitivity, we tested the extension Extension:TitleKey and it seems to fix the issue! We'll add that extension for the upcoming upgrade we're about to test soon --Stephane Lo Presti talk 19:53, 18 January 2016 (UTC)

GW1 Captcha issue for User Creation

Hey Stephane, I know you're likely busy with the release tomorrow and the ESL tournament, but just in case you don't have it on your radar, there is a GW1W bug that's popped up. G R E E N E R 04:40, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

Yep we were alerted to that issue by the German wiki, Justin is looking into it. Thanks Greener! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 17:06, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

Round 2

Hi Stephane, it seems like Captcha is having fun again (or may not have been working properly at all since the last update). Bug report is over on the GWW page. G R E E N E R 20:31, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Artwork for Bandit-Camp raid encounter

Hey,

I'm not certain if this is possible nor the right place to ask, but I figured I'd try. For the second encounter in the raid, there is no single boss, so an image is kind of a pain. I am wondering if there happens to be an art asset somewhere showing all bandit champions at once or something to that matter?

I imagine we could figure something out if that's not an option; but it would be great to have I think. -Darqam (talk) 19:51, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi there, I'll ask the raid team if we have something to help. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 20:02, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
Would this file File:Fort_Flamethrower_2.jpg work? --Stephane Lo Presti talk 20:12, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
I imagine that would. Shows the last champion and a good chunk of the mechanics all in one. I'll put that in for the first version at the very least but I do like it. Thanks for the super quick delivery! -Darqam (talk) 20:15, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Keep Construct artwork

Hello,

I've come once again asking for more pretty pictures! I recently saw a design video for Keep Construct, and there was some really cool initial and final (form) artwork. Is there any way we can get a copy of some of those images to show in the Construct's (to be) gallery? -Darqam (talk) 13:54, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

Sorry about the delay. Here you go Darqam: File:Keep_Construct_Concept_Art.jpg --Stephane Lo Presti talk 19:50, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
Awesome, I will add that to the gallery soon. Is there also a possibility of showing the first iteration of the Keep Construct? His original design looked quite significantly different and I think it would be nice to be able to show that on the wiki. -Darqam (talk) 19:47, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Dialogues

Hello,

So I'm going to post a request which I am 99% sure will be an absolute 'no', but I figured I should try anyway.

In the most recent blogpost, we are shown that all the dialogue options for a certain action are listed all in one nice location.

Soooooooo, for the sake of wiki editing only, would it be possible to see the dialogue in such raw forms? Or if not in that form, in some adaptation of it?

I'd be willing to take anything at this point, since repeating the same instance multiple time on different races (and multiple time per same race) is immensely time consuming and we simply can never be certain we caught all the dialogue for things such as raids.

I'd bat my eyelashes to attempt to seduce you into doing this, but I think the both of us would just be embarrassed after that so I'll leave it with a "please and thank you!" -Darqam (talk) 17:54, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

I'll ask around and let you know, no need for eye lashes :) --Stephane Lo Presti talk 17:55, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

Thank You!

Thanks for the information in the email, it really helped. =) Also, just so that it's documented somewhere else than my inbox, can you please confirm the following things:

  • This image shows the reward coordinator, which you said "refers to the new map-wide system to coordinate that rewards players during a play session".
    • This/the box is what was removed from "Securing Verdant Brink", "Defending Tarir", and “Advancing Across Tangled Depths”.
  • When you enter Tarir, the Forgotten city, what appears in the event assistant is the Map Meta.

This is the one thing I wasn't sure about and wanted to make sure I understood correctly:

  • "The only changes made to the map meta was to remove the reward coordinator through the warmup phase of the map, which is the first hour and a half. When the meta kicks off, the reward coordinator will become active and act as it used to when we originally released the event."

So does that mean “Advancing Across Tangled Depths”/“Defending Tarir”/“Securing Verdant Brink” is a warmup map meta for the Chak Gerent, Octovine and the Night Bosses respectively, making it that there is a warmup map meta event and a boss map meta event? - Doodleplex 01:48, 16 July 2016 (UTC)

Nothing you're asking resolves any of the disputes... The articles currently document those as map meta events with meta events of the same name, but you're pushing to delete every meta event of the same name. Defending Tarir and Night and the Enemy are being claimed as only map meta events, why are these the only ones to be displayed in the standard meta event / dynamic event interface but every single other map meta event only appears inside of a "reward cooridnator" (which is never referred to as such in-game / official post but indicates map meta-event when hovered over so it has been used as a source for map meta event information)?
Battle in Tarir and Battle in Tarir (map meta event) are also separate mechanics, but which should be merged into the other as purposed; and where does Trial by Fire belong if they should be merged? Mora 02:39, 16 July 2016 (UTC)
Also, can you please explain why each of these events are/were flagged with meta_event for each consistently in the API if they are solely map meta events? Map meta events do not appear at all here, so I do not understand why some are being purposed to only be classified only as one or the other when they have been documented this way in the API and appear separately in-game.

Out of the Shadows banner image

So in previous Living World releases there was a banner uploaded to Facebook that we would grab and use as the banner for the release on the wiki. For Out of the Shadows, we only had the dark White Mantle image we currently use, as one of these banners was never released. Do you know if a similar named banner exists for Out of the Shadows as did for previous releases? On the http://guildwars2.com site, I see an image for Out of the Shadows on the carousel that looks kinda like the banners we usually got, but the text is overlaid as part of the site and not part of the image as the banners usually had. I was thinking of taking that and mocking one up if one didn't exist, but wanted to check with you if on exists as whatever I come up with probably wouldn't be as good. Vahkris (talk) 20:14, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi Vahkris, I see the picture you're looking for at the bottom of this page: Release. Is this something you could use? If not, I'll contact our designers right away :) --Stephane Lo Presti talk 17:18, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
That's not quite what I'm referring to, as it's too dark to easily see the banner. Each of the previous S2 releases had a version of the banner that was half white and had the logo. Ex: File:The_Dragon's_Reach_Part_1_banner.jpg vs File:Plan_of_Attack_loading_screen.jpg. The one on the release page (former) has white space and the title, whereas the latter doesn't really have the space. I noticed that the image on the guildwars2.com site is almost there, it even has the text: 403722016-07_LWS3_Ep1_HomeBanner_Blank.jpg, it basically just needs the logo. I could almost take a screenshot of that image with the logo and be fine after some alterations, but wanted to check first to see if one already existed as it probably wouldn't follow the pattern. Vahkris (talk) 15:35, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
Ok I can easily check that on our side, although I don't see what "text" is on the HomeBanner image? Also what logo are you talking about, the Living World or Heart of Thorns one? --Stephane Lo Presti talk 15:46, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
The text is only displayed on the carousel on the guildwars2.com site. It's a layover text on the page, the image itself doesn't have it. I went ahead and tried again on taking a screenshot of that image with the layover text and did a quick mock-up...I was looking for something like this to be similar to the previous release banners: File:Out_of_the_Shadows_bannertemp.jpg. I might be able to just use this, but was looking for an official one. :) Vahkris (talk) 15:55, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
Ok I see. What about the logo you mentioned above? I want to be clear before I reach out to our team :) --Stephane Lo Presti talk 19:45, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
By "logo" I meant the release name text("Out of the Shadows")...I switched from using title and logo unintentionally, sorry. I just meant to say that the image I see on the guildwars2.com site looks similar to the ones we got for banners previously for LW S2, it's just missing the release name. Vahkris (talk) 21:37, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
Ok I'll ask! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 21:38, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

That works! I should have checked here before grabbing it from Facebook. That one has extra text, this one doesn't. This is a better version. Vahkris (talk) 21:53, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

Gem Store addition and removal

Hello Stephane,

I am unaware if this has been previously addressed or not; however would there be some means of having the changes applied to the gem store recorded and sent to some wiki editors? I just went over (some) of the gem store pages on the wiki and noticed that many items had been added or removed from in-game without indication (which is obviously fine). This lack of indication however makes keeping track of all the minor details very painful. In order to ensure the wiki is 100% up to date, editors have to literally check every item on the in-game gem-store, and then check every item on the wiki pages to check what matches and what doesn't. I'm not sure if there is a better way of addressing this; but to my understanding an updating list of items moving in and out of the gemstore would be of enormous help to keep those pages updated. -Darqam (talk) 18:07, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

ArenaNet most likely doesn't keep past records of Gem Store items. That's pretty much asking for an API endpoint. I'd ask lye about it. The main issue would be leaking future gem store sales, although the Gem Store is updating separate from the client so the risk shouldn't be that great.--Relyk ~ talk < 01:34, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
I'd imagine an API endpoint might be a good solution. Before hoping to that I was wondering if there was a (relatively) simple zone where it showed "Item X removed day Y". That said, I can imagine this not wanting to be public and all given that there are many gem store items that are brought back as a 'surprise' to boost sales. Such a list could compromise that marketing... hrm... -Darqam (talk) 03:23, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
For a little history for the recent changes not covered by the wiki, I've been keeping updated records of Gem Store cosmetics consistently since about March. It's not everything in the Gem Store, but I do check each item I track. It takes a while. Recently, I post links to these availability tables on a Twitter account made for this purpose: @Delseadata. -- Dashface User Dashface.png 17:54, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Hi everyone, sorry that I didn't reply before as this topic fell through the cracks of my work. I talked to our Commerce team and they don't have a convenient way to give you a history of these changes, but these changes should be listed in the Release Notes so you may find the information you're looking for here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates I also remember that we at some point listed these changes in the Tuesday blog posts where we promote new items for the Gem store but I don't know if we're still doing it. Elize Fairchild

Can you either confirm or deny if this NPC was named after this player or not? - Doodleplex 21:36, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Doodleplex, sorry for the late answer. These kinds of questions are very difficult to answer, because there are a lot of NPCs in the game, and there are also a lot of employees creating or modifying these NPCs. In general, and in this particular case, there's no known association between the NPC's name and a player. Thanks! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 20:28, 16 December 2016 (UTC)
Yeah I know it was tricky, but thank you so much for being able to provide an answer, it's greatly appreciated. =) - Doodleplex 20:32, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

Fractal images

Heya,

With the new fractal coming out it makes me wonder if there are any images already made for this encounter we could post. And while I'm at it, are there any images for existing fractals that we could add? If someone has gone through the effort of making them, we might as well use them. -Darqam 18:16, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Darqam, I'd suggest that you wait for the release on Monday and we'll have a Release Page that includes screenshots of the Fractals. If on Monday you haven't found something relevant, let me know. Thank you! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 22:41, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
