I'm Nyala, keeper of the lore of Ascension. I try to pass my knowledge to the twins when they're not running about. I find the Ascension Chamber fascinating, don't you?

I've seen the twins play "Ascension." They're quite a handful.

For me, Ascension is about ensuring a better future, for ourselves, but even more so, for the children. If we can Ascend like heroes past, we can face the danger that the Elder Dragons pose.

What used to happen inside the Ascension Chamber?

It's quite the legend. Heroes who acquired divine fire witnessed the mesa of Augury Rock split open, revealing the Ascension chamber within—and the arena where they would face their doppelganger.

What or who is a doppelganger?

The last test of Ascension was to defeat a mirror of yourself, a doppelganger, in combat. Legend has it that the doppelganger now wanders the dunes, seeking the worthy.

Astute observation. Indeed, I once served the Priory. When Mordremoth destroyed the Pact, the organizations were also thrown into disarray. Kaidenna and I eventually made our way here.

• Nyala poses as the Doppelganger in Binyam's and Anaya's roleplay of the Trials of Ascension.
  • During the "doppelganger" fight, she copies Anaya's "Necromancer skills", sacrificing her health until she "dies". This parodies a typical method a Necromancer might tackle the doppelganger fight in Guild Wars, where the AI couldn't make proper use of health sacrificing skills.
