Champion Zunraa

You ache, watching those you vowed to protect... Destroy themselves. And feel your vow shatter like their mortal bones.

— The Pact Commander through a spirit portal

Zunraa is the spirit guardian of Zen Daijun. He[1] takes the form of a kirin.

Biography[edit]

Early years[edit]

For hundreds of years, Zunraa guarded the valley of Zen Daijun in Cantha, warding off threats and protecting the pure of heart. Zunraa possessed the kirin ability of Blessing of the Kirin to cure conditions and miasma.[2]

Guild Wars Factions[edit]

In 1582 CC (1072 AE), Zunraa began to attempt to contain the spread of the Affliction within Zen Daijun. As a result of his efforts against Shiro Tagachi's blighted army, he was exhausted and thus weakened. Upon the arrival of Shing Jea Monastery's Master Togo and a group of heroes seeking the source of the plague, Zunraa arrived to aid them, cured them of the toxic miasma in the air, and wounded nearby Afflicted creatures. Upon arriving at Zen Daijun Library, they managed to find Shiro's emblem in the blighted library.

Following Togo leaving to Kaineng City to inform his brother Emperor Kisu of the plague, Zunraa became severely weakened by the Afflicted still within the area. A demonic creature feeding on the miasma and taking the form of a twisted version of him arrived in the valley, strengthening the corruption's grip on Zen Daijun. Zunraa managed to convince the heroes whom he had helped to battle the Afflicted to aid him in cleansing the miasma within the valley and striking down the demon. Zunraa and the heroes' efforts were successful, and the creature, along with the blight it caused, was destroyed.

Guild Wars Beyond: Winds of Change[edit]

Even after the destruction of the demon and the death of Shiro, the Afflicted still lingered in Zen Daijun, aimlessly spreading blight through the once-peaceful valley. By 1589 CC (1079 AE), Zunraa had been corrupted by the Afflicted and hampered efforts by the Ministry of Purity to eradicate the plague for good. In that year, Initiate Tsuriai and the heroes who had saved Zen Daijun twice before set out into the valley in order to summon and destroy the blighted aspects of Zunraa. After a fierce battle through the valley, Zunraa was healed from his affliction and returned to his duties as Zen Daijun's guardian.

Interim years[edit]

Zunraa fell victim of the savage purges of the Ministry of Purity and the chaos that engulfed the empire in the years that followed. As he suffered watching the nation of Cantha slaughter itself, he was kidnapped and spiritually imprisoned in the Spirit Realm.

End of Dragons[edit]

After retrieving a device known as a spirit stone in 1845 CC (1335 AE), the Pact Commander and a ritualist named Kyung scoured the major areas of Cantha, entering spirit portals and learning of Zunraa's fate. After recovering all the essences from the portals and returning to Zen Daijun Temple, they entered a portal again and freed Zunraa from his spiritual shackles, allowing the spirit to resume his role as guardian of the valley after a long time of imprisonment.

At the end of A Chance Encounter
You've saved me, mortal one. Long have I been imprisoned in this realm by cruel forces. The very same evils from which I vowed to protect Zen Daijun. Now, I may return to my duty as guardian.

Your kindness is not taken for granted, I assure you. If ever you find yourself in danger, evoke me by ringing a bell. As long as I roam free, you will not be alone in your fight.
